Jason Day 'Count' down to 'Dooms' day Michael Bisping UFC 85
fight (Part V)

It is the day before weigh ins for my middleweight bout with Michael Bisping at UFC 85: "Bedlam" at the O2 Arena in London, England, on Saturday, June 7.
I am just relaxing and getting ready to cut weight in the morning.
So far it has been a smooth trip. The time change is still taking its toll on me, but I am adjusting slowly and I think I will feel just fine on fight night.
The British media, unsurprisingly, seem very interested in this fight. And the fans out here have been very polite and wishing me the best of luck against their fellow countryman.
I had the pleasure of attending my first UFC press conference today and I enjoyed the experience fielding questions and posing for photos.
In addition, I met Bisping for the first time today and he was very polite and respectful. I think we both agree that this has the potential to be a war. One reporter pointed out that 16 of my 17 wins have come via (technical) knockout or submission and the fact that Bisping has never been finished before.
It is an interesting observation.
Tomorrow will be the longest day. It seems like the day of the weigh ins drags on forever. My weight is right on track and my confidence is high right now. I cant 't wait to finally step into the Octagon on Saturday night.
This is by far my biggest opportunity and biggest fight to date and I plan on taking full advantage of it.
I want to thank everyone who helped me get ready for this fight such as my coaches Lee Mein, Justin Tavernini, Kenny Seaman, Tanya Lee and Eric Deguzman, as well as all my teammates at the Canadian Martial Arts Center.
I will put on one hell of a show on Saturday and thanks to everyone who has been following my blogs here at MMAmania.com.
Keep grindin!

fight (Part IV)

The grind is over.
Today was the last day of conditioning for my upcoming middleweight fight with Michael Bisping at the O2 Arena in London, England, on June 7. It is always a weird feeling to be done with the grind -- all those weeks of intense training are done and now it is time to put it to the test.
I had an awesome last week of training. There were no snags ... I just put my nose to the grindstone.
Today we pushed it the hardest I have ever gone in my circuit. It's clear that I am in better shape than I was for the Alan Belcher fight at UFC 83: "Serra vs. St. Pierre" just this past April.
I love being done because I know my body gets a chance to rest and recover. It also means that I get to fight next week! Even though it was only a short five-week training camp I feel I have done more than enough. Everything is flowing well standing and on the ground.
The press for this fight is crazy. Everyone is calling wondering what the gameplan is and my thoughts on the fight. I can tell you that my game plan is always the same -- make him play my game.
I am going to push the pace in this fight like crazy and I will go whereever the fight takes me. The general opinion seems to be that people expect me to take him to the ground where he seems to be the most vulnerable.
That's not the case. I predict a stand up war!
If it goes to the ground then so be it, but I am not going to force the takedown. I know he will try to keep it standing and he will be very active and aggressive so I am looking forward to a tough exciting fight.
And that's just what I plan to give the fans in London and around the world.

fight (Part III)

Well, it's two weeks away from my fight with Michael Bisping at UFC 85: "Bedlam" on June 7 and I am cruising along.
My weight is perfect and my training is going smooth. The first week of sport-specific training always kicks the crap out of me. It is physically exhausting, but it definitely helps me to peak at the right time.
Victor Valimaki came down from Edmonton to help put a little more heat on me through my rounds. It always helps to bring in guys to get a different energy and a different skill set. Valimaki is a tank -- his size and strength definitely pushed my limits both standing and on the ground.
I always appreciate other fighters stepping up to help me.
My diet and micro-alignment coach from BodyArtFitness.com, Tanya Lee, noticed a trend with me: I get sick a few weeks before my fights. Therefore, this time we stayed on top of my immune system and I have been healthy all the way through my training.
It is an extra boost to my confidence knowing that I have been healthy throughout my training camp.
I capped off the week by taking in UFC 84: "Ill Will" on Saturday night. I thought the fights were great. I had picked BJ Penn to win but I didn't think it would end like that, Sherk is a tank and BJ took it to him and ended it in exciting fashion.
It was awesome to see Wanderlei back in form -- he is definitely one of my favorite fighters and I am glad to see him come out with the victory in the fashion he is accustomed to.
I am look forward to one last week of grinding before I leave for London, England. It is hard to describe the feelings and emotions leading up to the fight. Nervousness, anticipation and most of all anxiousness all play a big role leading up.
It is a rollercoaster ride for sure. I love it and I can't wait to get in the cage let it all out. I have never been so eager to fight in my life ... it will be a WAR!

fight (Part II)

I am heading into the last portion of my training camp now with three weeks remaining until my fight with Michael Bisping at UFC 85: "Bedlam" at the O2 Arena in London, England, on June 7.
My conditioning coach, Kenny Seaman, breaks my routine into three phases when I fight:
- Weights and strength training
- Torturous plyometrics
- Sport specific training (my favorite)
I love the final phase because it is very intense and gets me ready to fight. It involves a lot of sprinting and bringing in fresh teammates to beat on me between intervals. This is actually the one time when I look forward to conditioning because it feels just like a fight and I have my team there helping me through the intensity.
I took the long weekend off to relax and focus in the Rockies and now I am ready to grind out my last two weeks of training. I will train right up until the Friday before I leave and then continue to stay loose throughout the week by jogging and hitting pads.
My training is going great I feel like I never missed a beat from my last fight and just picked up where I left off. I had a ton of support behind me for my first fight here in Canada but it feels like support is just gaining momentum for this one.
I am the lone Canadian on the card so I feel the whole country is behind me for this fight.

Jason Day 'Count' down to 'Dooms' day Michael Bisping UFC 85
fight (Part I)
Hello, maniacs ... this is Jason Day. I'm going to chronicle my training and preparation right here at MMAmania.com for the biggest fight of my professional career against Michael Bisping at UFC 85: "Bedlam" in London, England, on June 7.
I am already back at it training hard for another shot in the UFC after two weeks off celebrating my first win inside the Octagon over Alan Belcher at UFC 83: "Serra vs. St. Pierre 2" on April 19. Chris Leben was forced to withdraw from the UFC 85 bout against Bisping, which created an amazing opportunity for me to get a shot at him in front of his hometown crowd.
The whole UFC experience has been a whirlwind for me -- I thought I would have more time to sort out my day job and training, but the fight with Bisping was too good to resist.
When I am not training or fighting I build houses full-time up here in Canada. I own a home building company with my parents and they have been very supportive by picking up the slack when I have to take off to train or fight.
In fact, I have changed up my routine a little for this fight, separating my conditioning and strength from my technical and sparring sessions. I take a two-hour lunch break so I can hit the gym and get my cardio and weights over earlier in the day, which leaves me more energy at nights to spar.
I have been in this sport for seven years now and it seems like yesterday I had my first fight at the Roadhouse Nightclub where I worked as a doorman. Lee Mein was the head doorman and he was the one who got me started in the sport and I continue to train with him at his gym today.
It has been a long road to the UFC and now that I am finally here everything seems to be happening so fast and I am loving it all the way.
Things are finally starting to come together and I look forward to putting on a great performance against Bisping in less than four weeks. I'm hungry ... and will be ready for the fight of my life on June 7.
