Anyone beside me hoping the Nats don't get Gio. If the trade happens, Oakland will have a lot of young, cheap talent. They won't contend in 2012, but if the Mayan Calendar is a fluke then they could be very competitive in a very few short years

So if Hanley wants a trade... anyway the Halos can partner with the Marlins. Abreu, their choice of Izturis or Callaspo, and a handful of prospects for Hanley? We could throw in Aybar too.

Vlad off the bench?

Its looking more and more like Vlad won't be returning to Texas. Designated Hitters are a dime a dozen in MLB, but what Vlad means to the Halo organization, plus how the fans feel about Vlad. Giving Vlad a 3-5M contract per year for 2 years. Kind of like over paying for what he's done. Plus he'd be a great insurance policy if another accident happens like what happened to Morales last year.

Would Vlad consider a reduced role, a part-time DH and part-time late inning pinch-hitter?

So what will become of Jake Locker

With Andrew Luck returning to Stanford next year, Jake Locker's stock must be going up, because without luck his drafting status has to increase, right? So what becomes of Locker and the Angels, is he as good as done with our favorite team?

Here is what I think is an interesting trade idea...

Many of us are sure that the Angels will be looking for an upgrade in left field. Although many think it'll be Carl Crawford through free agency, what if The Angels who are almost certain to be looking to move RF/LF Juan Rivera, who lets face it is having a real bad year, and Mike Napoli, who is having one of his better offensive years. With Napoli's perceived value almost certainly giving him a raise this off season might put him at about 5 million dollars a year. Rivera I believe is making about 5 million next year. But if the Angels were to trade that 10M away for the Dodger's RF/LF Andre Ethier to play Left in Anaheim, wouldn't they be killing half a dozen birds with that one stone? Upgrading Offense and Defense in Left Field, moving Rivera... too costly to be a 4th Outfielder for the Halos and Napoli... blocking Conger/Wilson behind the plate. And its a win for the Dodgers as well. If the Dodgers are interested in a new catcher behind the plate with Martin's injury problems or having Napoli play some first. Rivera could switch to Right Field, which is where I believe he is more comfortable playing. The Dodgers save 5M off the payroll, which means they can probably make some more cost saving moves with more flexibility.

Napoli and Rivera to the Dodgers for Andre Ethier???

Halos Heaven Was anyone surprised about Lackey beating the Angels?

Was it a surprise to anyone last night that Lackey would beat the Angels?  Certainly not me.  With the benefit of an awfully liberal strike zone, a couple of really bad calls from the umpire crew including a botched call on fair/foul ball that would have and a base runner early in the game and the triple play that was, but wasn't you could see the Angels would have their hands full in Boston.

But Here is why I think losing last night was a good thing.

So the goon, just quit on his team. We all knew Bradley was a liability, so much for them conquering the American League West.

Looks like Pettit has requested surgery and will be out for the season. I guess it'll help the Scioscia decision for bench players just got a little easier.

Feb. 22nd Position Players reported to camp. Well not Kendry Morales, its been over a week now and Kendry still hasn't made an appearance for the ball club. Is anyone concerned that this week absent can set him back? How long before he's ready to go?

True Blue LA Would the Dodgers consider Chien-Ming Wang

According to Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, by way of MLBTradeRumors, Chien-Ming Wang is telling friends he's prepare to move on from the Yankees.  Abraham goes on to say that Wang should be ready to join a MLB rotation in May.

Wouldn't it make sense for the Dodgers  to take a shot at Chien-Ming?  He should be able to be had for reasonably cheap, perhaps 1 year 1-2 Million.

Anyone hear about Eric Aybar's injury?

Erick Aybar left a game Thursday in the Dominican Republic after apparently straining a muscle in his left leg. Aybar was attempting to beat out a grounder when he pulled up lame. The Angels haven't been updated on his condition If Aybar isn't ready come spring training, do you play Wood at SS and Izturis at 3B or keep Wood at 3B and Izturis at SS?

Rory Markas has passed away.

Rory Markas known for the famous catch phrase "Just Another Halo Victory" passed away earlier this morning. AM 830's Sport Lodge reported it this morning and it was also being reported on KTTV, Fox 11 here in Los Angeles. In late-2008, Rory underwent surgery to remove a blood clot in his brain, which sidelined him for about six weeks. Rory was 54 and reportedly passed in his sleep. Rory was set to be the lead announcer for the Angels this season with Mark Gubicza.

If Matt Cain is off the table, what about Johnathon Sanchez

Sanchez is being discussed as a possible trading piece to land Dan Uggla from the Marlins. If the Giants are willing to deal Sanchez perhaps the Halos can package a deal of Rivera, Napoli, and Sandoval for Sanchez. This will address the Halos 5th man in the rotation who is young, under team control until 2012. His WHIP has improved every year and last year was at 1.45 and his career batting average allowed is .246. Last year he only gave up 19 home runs.

What do you think?

With Toronto signing a starting catcher, I think we can figure Napoli will be out of the deal.

Finally the Rangers have something to be proud of. The Major's best farm. That should concern the Angels today, but until they add money to the business, the Rangers are still a non-factor.

Aroldis Chapman has signed with Kendry Morales' agent Randy Hendricks.

Does this make signing Chapman anymore of a reality for the Angels?

Halos Heaven Read My Lips, No New Free-Agents!!!

The void that will be created with the departures of John Lackey, Chone Figgins, Darren Oliver, and Vladimir Guerrero will be felt long after they sign new contracts with their new teams. Lackey is a true number one Ace, Figgins is a true lead off hitter and has great defensive skills, Oliver isn't only a lefty specialist, and Vladimir was the face of the franchise. But like Tony Reagins said on The Drive yesterday, you have to take the emotion out of the business decisions.

We Will Win, With What We Got or Lightning Strikes Twice.

The 2009 Elias Rankings have been released, and Ed Price of AOL FanHouse has a full list of the Type-A and B free agents.

* Chone Figgins qualifies as a Type-A, not a Type-B as projected.
* Melvin Mora qualifies as a Type-A, not a Type-B as projected.
* Vladimir Guerrero qualifies as a Type-B, not a Type-A as projected.
* Gregg Zaun from no compensation to Type-B.
* Jerry Hairston Jr. from Type-B to no compensation.
* Hideki Matsui from Type-B to no compensation.
* Aubrey Huff from Type-B to no compensation.

Does this change how we deal with both Figgins and Vlad?
