The Turk is looming...
http://proxy.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?name=20030818/FOB/AnswerGuy/TheTurk
We've all heard of "The Turk". He's the guy who gets to tell players to pack their shit and gtfo. Some teams are allready trimming their rosters and I thought a post with the links to whos been cut from where was going to be needed. We could also discuss these players, if they'll clear waivers, who the Lions are probably gonna cut, yaddayaddayadda if you folks want.
You all have a great weekend, I'm going to Vegas.
Who is the best OT this draft?
I've seen alot of mocks having the Detroit Lions taking the first Offensive Tackle in this draft class, but the pick is sporadic and opinions vary on who that tackle will be. Now alot of my fellow Lions fans and myself have argued debated with you folks about this scenario because we don't feel comfortable taking the first OT off the board who is not the consensus "Best Tackle". We know the Offensive Line needs new blood, Stafford needs to stay upright, the run-blocking needs to be improved, Jason Fox may or may not be the LT of the future, yaddayaddayadda... the question is simple, who really is the BEST TACKLE in the 2011 NFL draft?
A Lions mock draft sure to piss everyone off...
Last draft talk season, someone (can't remember who) posted a link to an article about how the Lions should concentrate on the offensive side of the ball since that side is close to being complete at every position. The guy who wrote the article wanted the Lions to draft Russell Okung at #2 (90% of us disagreed) and brought up great points but as we all know now, SUUUUUUUUUUUUUH was the right pick.
This upcoming draft, maybe concentrating on the offense could be the way to go. I know, I know, the defense needs a hell of alot of help and LBers and DBs are the biggest needs, but this is a somewhat deep draft for those position areas and could be addressed later.
I'm not advocating a concentration on strictly offense and totally ignoring the defense, just bringing up the possibility the FO might go this direction just to spark a bit of discussion. I'm also not saying "this is what the FO MUST DO!", I'd love a shutdown hardhitting defense as much as any and all of you, but for shits and giggles...
Scrap the dream for Revis
It looks like the New York Jets and CB Darrelle Revis have come to a long term contract agreement. Haven't heard the terms yet, but Revis is flying to New York to sign on the dotted line as I type this. With the way I type, the plane will probably be landing in LaGaurdia before I finish typing this post. Here are some links confirming this:

Funny video. Happy Mothers Day
I think you folks (especially the parents) might get a kick out of this video. This kid had me crackin' up. Happy Moms day to all the moms on the site.
Judge rules on the Williams Wall
A Minnesota judge today made the ruling that Pat Williams and Kevin Williams (no relation) has to serve their 4-game suspensions for their positive diuretic tests from using StarCaps back in 2008. As you all know, they have been appealing the suspensions claiming it violates Minnesotas labor laws.
10 reasons NOT to draft Russell Okung
About a week ago, someone (sorry, I can't remember who) posted a link to a WalterFootball article about our beloved Detroit Lions and why they should draft Russell Okung with the #2 overall pick. It was a very good article and it got me thinking about it. I have stated I'm not an Okung fan and would prefer Suh, but I'm also a realist and have accepted the strong possibility that Okung may be the pick. I wouldn't hate the pick, but I'd be skeptical at the same time. The article link posted after the jump kinda sums up my counterpoints to the Okung article.
I'm not trying to stir up an arguement with my fellow Lions fans rooting for Okung to be the pick, just presenting a counterpoint to the WalterFootball article. Hope everyone has a great day!
OJ Atogwe anyone?
Oshiomogho Atogwe, 28 yrs old, is a RFA safety with the St. Louis Rams. He's a damn good safety who was franchised by the Rams last year, but only received the right of first refusal tender this year. He may cost some cash, but the compensation given up could be worth it. Kerry Rhodes only cost the Cards a 2010 4th and a 2011 7th, the Lions might be able to acquire Atogwe for less.
Draft pick history
Incredible write-up by ChicoWong. A must read
RIP Gaines Adams
I just heard Adam Schefter report on ESPN that Chicago Bears Defensive End Gaines Adams has past away at the age of 26. No word yet on how he passed away and an autopsy will be performed in the coming weeks. He was taken to a South Carolina hospital this morning and passed away at 9am. Keep his family, friends and teammates in your thoughts and prayers. He was so young and full of potential. This is truely a tragedy
There is a God!!!!
Just saw on the ESPN ticker that Tony Korn-hoser is out on Monday Night Football. He'll be replaced by John Gruden. No John Madden and now, no Tony. I won't have to mute the TV anymore!!!! Will Tony and John be missed by you guys? I for one could not stand to listen to either one of them...
75 words is a pain in the butt to come up with... yadda yadda yadda
Did you see Kipers new mock draft?
I'm not a fan of Mel Kiper,Jr. and many of you aren't, either. I just saw his latest 4-round mock draft, and I have to say, it's not too bad. Of course he has Stafford going #1(I swear he makes "hair gel" while watching YouTube videos of him), but the rest isn't bad-
1.1-Matt Stafford QB
1.20-Michael Oher OT
2.1-James Laurenitius MLB
3.1-Patrick Chung SS
3.18-Fili Moaola DT
I know, we don't want Stafford #1 (my gut says bust), but I think the rest of this draft could salvage it. What do you think?
BEARS GET CUTLER
The Chicago Bears Trade their 2009 1st rd, 2010 1st rd, their '09 3rd rd and QB Kyle Orton to the Denver Broncos for QB Jay Cutler and the Broncos 2009 5th round pick. I think the Bears got robbed. What are your thoughts?
Man, 75 words is a pain in the tuckus to come up with, yadda yadda yadda...
Scientist say all women will have intelligent DNA in them someday. Unfortunatly, 95% of the women will spit it out! Am I at 75 words yet?
POD Mock Draft help
Hello everyone! I'm a big Detroit Lions fan (yes, we really do actually exist) and I"m involved in a mock draft on the Pride Of Detroit site. I volunteered to do the Green Bay Packers draft
I'm posting this asking for suggestions for the Packers needs, which players you fans are hoping for. I'm thinking DL, OT, or OLB, but any thoughts, tips, and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much
Fixing the D= fewer Lions QB sacks
How many times last season did we watch the Lions fall behind 21-0 in the 1st quarter? How many times did we see them just get blown out of the building?
The OL didn't give up ALL those sacks. 1/2 were their fault. Who gave up the others? The DEFENSE! I will explain...
When you fall behind that much that quickly into the game, the other team knows ya gotta try and score quick. They knew the Lions weren't going to run when they're down 3 touchdowns. All they had to do was bring the house and tee-off. Fixing the DEFENSE will allow the Lions to be competitive and have a balanced attack.
A new QB will also solve ALOT of the Lions sack issues. Kitna had no escapability, no running ability and always held onto the ball way to eff-ing long. He played 3 1/2 games and was sacked 15 times. Most were his fault.
Dan-O had some awareness. In 7 games, he was sacked 13 times. 6 were in the first MINN game and they have an exeptional pass-rush, and 1 of those was "The Safety". He knew to get rid of the ball. The other 6 games Dan played? 7 sacks total.
C-Pep was fat and out of shape. Stanton and Henson had no-clue seeing it was their first action. The OL did the best with what they could with them at QB.
The offense starts with the OL, but the OL is NOT the Lions main problem, defense and QB is. Take either Raji, Curry or Stafford #1, OL can wait.
I am ready to be blasted
Salvaging the draft if Stafford is #1
I'm going to assume WCF is going to meddle and make Mayhew/Harris/Schwartz pick Stafford #1. WCF will think of immediate $$$$$ from jersey sales alone. Now they'll have to draft OL immediatly afterward to protect him and worry about defense later. What would be the best draft scenarios to save this draft after a collosal mistake at #1? No draft pick trades, just player picks.
1.1-Stafford
20-O-line-Oher/Beatty/Mack/Britton/Unger/A. Smith
33-Defense-Brace/Hood/Lauranitus
65-MLB/Safety/D-line?
82-
161-
179-
The majority of of us don't want Stafford and discuss either Curry or J. Smith/Monroe at #1. The reality is Stafford is probably going to be the guy. Now is the time for damage control. What to do?
