Redskins Offensive Line Roster as of May 26
Combine and draft information is presented for the current Redskins' offensive line. The combine information gives some notion of a player's athleticism compared to others playing the same position. The 10 yard times are a better indication for linemen than longer distance times since it is more related to where their play takes place. For some of the younger Skins' players it is somewhat a measure of potential, i.e., since they have not played in regular season games. .
The list of potential free agent signings includes information on zone blocking experience which might make it easier for those with such experience to gel with the Skins' offense and other players already on the Team.
The combines serve a purpose of being an additional evaluation filter. Players did well enough at the collegiate level to get an invitation. The 2011 combines will also help to identify draft picks and other players that may be sleepers that don't get drafted.
Abbreviations used in the tables:
BRep = bench press repetitions at 225 lbs. VJump = vertical jump. 20 Yd and 10Yd are subfractions of 40 yard times in seconds. RD and Sel# = the round and section number overall in the draft. Year = the year drafted. ZBE = zone blocking experience. NA = not available. NK = not known. The asterisk (*) before a event results is from a Pro Day comparable to the combines, but may have different conditions effecting the comparative value to the same event as the combine. Since not all NFL combines have not been held at the same place, this reduces the comparability somewhat.

Kendall Wright receives first playbook ever
This is the system that RG3 played under. "Tennessee Titans WR Kendall Wright said the playbook he received from the team was the first one he has ever had. Wright played college football at Baylor, where head coach Art Briles uses practices, film study and meetings to teach plays signaled into the offense. Nothing was written down and bundled into a playbook of any form. "For me, it's learning everything," Wright said. "I was just out there. We had a lot of different stuff we ran at Baylor. But right now I have a playbook that I'm studying every night and going over with coaches in the meetings. It's a different learning process for me."

7 Round Mock Draft
This is a 7 round mock draft that would also include 2 free agents: Chris Myers, C and Brandon Carr, CB.
First round, pick 6 - Riley Reiff, OT, 6-6, 313 lbs. Experienced ZBS at Iowa.
Second round, pick 39 - Brandon Weeden, QB. This pick may be a reach for Weeden but the Skins need some one at QB that can start early on. Weeden rose to the occasion against Luck and Stanford.
Third round, pick 70 - Nick Toon, WR. Unless the Team can get an additional pick out of the first round, Toon may their best choice at 6-2 and 220 lbs.
Forth round, pick 109 - Omar Bolden, CB, 5-10 and 202 lbs and pick 130 - Audie Cole, ILB, 6-4 and 248 lbs.
Fifth round, 6th pick - R.J. Coleman, QB, 6-3 and 234lbs. Coleman would be groomed to be the backup QB and potentially the future starter.
Sixth round, 6th pick - Damien Jackson, FS, 6-2 and 210 lbs. Jackson is a taller safety that can matc h up with the WRs in the league.
Seventh round, 6th pick - Joe Looney, G, 6-3 and 320 lbs. "After starting 41 games during his four-year stint at Wake Forest, Looney finally fell victim to injury. (practice for the Senior Bowl.) He went down early in practice with a torn ligament in his foot."
These positions address the roster needs IMO.

Wide Receivers in the 2012 draft
In the winning touchdown of the Broncos-Steelers game there was a profile of the kind of WR the Skins need to draft, i.e.,

A preliminary review of the OL after regular season game one
The preseason games and game one of the regular season have been played. The draft and free agency have occurred.
The Skins acquired a starter at RG in Chris Chester as well as a backup tackle in Sean Locklear. Trent Williams has attempted to improve his offseason conditioning as well. The Team also replaced Casey Rabach with Will Montgomery at center. After the first three preseason games, there seemed to be a consensus that the run and pass blocking had improved over the 2010 season, but there were some questions about whether the improvements were real or not after the OL's forth game performance.
After the first regular season game against the Giants there is another chance to evaluate the OL performance for individual players as well as the unit as a group. The running game against the Giants had one decent play of 22 yards and an average of 2.8 overall. The Giants were missing two of their best DL which effected their performance on both the running and passing game of the Skins. The results were not good for the running game since there were defenders in the backfield which prohibited the stretch plays from developing. The passing game did moderately well despite 4 sacks allowed (one of which resulted in a QB forced fumble) plus a number of QB hits and pressures.
On June 14, 2011, Carver posted up an article, Redskin Linemen According to Pro Football Focus - http://www.hogshaven.com/2011/6/14/2223375/redskins-linemen-according-to-profootballfocus. That article and subsequent comments highlighted the OL situation from 2010 and addressed needs for 2011. Only one OL was drafted in the seventh round, Maurice Hurt, and he is on the practice squad. The Teams' top free agent target, Yanda, was resigned by the Ravens. Chris Chester was signed and he started 9 games for the Ravens in 2010. Carver's article and the comments can be accessed to help others in this preliminary review.

Redskins Fan Confidence
By comparison the Ravens' fan confidence is running about 15% higher than that of the Skins' fans. In a way it seems like the Ravens' fans should be more confident than 75% unless they see nothing but winning the super bowl as a reason for 100%. The Packers' fans are showing a rate of about 95% - http://www.acmepackingcompany.com/.
Salary cap plan could pose issues
This article discusses the likely new CBA cap and how it may impact a number of teams roster. Some possible additional free agents are mentioned
Bears’ Anthony Adams wants to stay, but he’ll have options
"An NFC personnel executive said he expected Adams to draw interest from several teams because of his consistency and willingness to play nose tackle, an unglamorous position.
Clubs are paying a premium for defensive tackles, and there will be a massive market for them when free agency begins. Adams might not be as well known as Aubrayo Franklin, Kris Jenkins or former Bears teammate Tommie Harris. But he has been durable and productive the last two seasons, playing in all 32 games and recording four sacks and two forced fumbles."
Former Browns first-rounder Preston Carpenter passes away
Preston spent three seasons with the Skins. He was a solid player. I thought he was a TE in DC. He played for a number of teams.

"NFL | Jim Irsay says deal must be in place by July
Mon, 23 May 2011 07:23:07 -0700
Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay believes it would be tough to have a normal preseason and start to the regular season if a new collective bargaining agreement is not hammered out by early July. "There's a window where we can get something done, but we really need to get something done by the Fourth of July or thereabouts so we can get in and have training camp and preseason and get ready that way," Irsay said. "There has to be some real urgency to get this thing resolved and really have a full season with a training camp and preseason games."
2011 UDFA Defensive Backs
The Skins drafted a few defensive backs and it would not hurt for them to bring in some undrafted free agents for competition. Some of the players that were not drafted had better pre-draft measureables than those the Team drafted. The measureables for the drafted players are shown separately.
Deunta Williams, North Carolina, has listings at FS and CB, but was unable to perform predraft test due to surgery. Nevertheless he looks like a good prospect, had the best NFP grade of the UDFA listed, and was CBS Sports 6th ranked FS.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina safety Deunta Williams has had surgery to repair his broken right leg. UNC report
"The school said Thursday that Williams had his right fibula surgically repaired Wednesday at UNC Hospitals. Williams broke his leg in the first half of the Tar Heels' Music City Bowl victory over Tennessee. He was hurt with 5:32 left in the first quarter as he helped tackle tight end Luke Stocker at the end of an 8-yard reception. He finished his senior season with 49 tackles and three pass breakups." Joe Lefeged, Rutgers and David Sims, Iowa State, were the 7th and 12th rank SS prospects by CBS Sports. Also, Ryan Jones from Northwest Missouri State, had the highest vertical jump of 40 inches and the second highest NFP grade of the UDFA listed.

Players’ battle with owners not a lost cause
This is a lengthy article that covers many aspects of this dispute.
Another Look at Offensive Line Depth
On February 12 an article, Potential 2011 Offensive Line Adjustments was posted. Now the 2011 NFL draft has taken place and the Redskins have added one offensive lineman to the Team.
Decisions await end of lockout for Redskins Rich Tandler (and some ofters having similar opinions) has said,
"Beef up the offensive line—Apparently, only once in 12 selections was the best player available in the draft an offensive lineman. While the Redskins offensive line last year was not nearly as bad as some would have you believe, especially in the last half of the year, it still needs improvement. The first issue is to either re-sign Jamaal Brown or find another starter at right tackle. It doesn’t appear that they are inclined to replace center Casey Rabach, who will turn 34 early in the season, but an eventual successor needs to be identified. Trent Williams, of course, is set at left tackle and Kory Lichtensteiger and Will Montgomery are adequate at guard. They could bring in some free agents to challenge Erik Cook, Selvish Capers, Artis Hicks, and Stephon Heyer for reserve and developmental spots.
It is likely to be at least partially true that the younger offensive linemen on the Redskins did improve their play during the 2010 season. Yet not all agree with Tandler's assessment that Lichtensteiger and Montgomery are adequate at guard. Also while Erik Cook must have shown enough progress to move from the practice squad to the active 53 man roster, he did not play in any of games that concluded the season. Some Redskin fans also are not sure that Jammal Brown has recovered that well from the surgery he had prior to his acquision. Many fans are of the opinion that three new starters are needed at the guard, center, and right tackle position. Free agency is viewed as an opportunity to get those starters. It is seen as pointless to acquire OL that would not be serious upgrades over the development players, i.e., Capers, Cook, or Fulton. Many fans would like to see Rabach and Heyers replaced on the active roster. There are a few that want the Team to go with a few UDFA offensive linemen, but to neglect acquiring any veterans from free agency.
There have been a few additions and some deletions from the Febuary 12th tables as well as the addition or changes in somes measures from pro day performances. Of note is that Cook showed a better ten yard split in his pro day which indicates that he may be fast enough for zone blocking. Derrick Dockery was cut from the roster as well. The 2011 draft pick, Maurice Hurt, IMO, does not seem to be fast enough for the ZBS. Logan Mankins and Ryan Kalil were potential targets, but their teams made them franchise players and they were eliminated from consideration. A few Hogs Haven fans have suggested some free agents. Willie Colon, OG, Hofstra, 6-3, 320, drafted in 2006 with pick #131 was one of the suggestions, however, he has no measureable data for the table. Another suggestion was Tyson Clabo, guard, Atlanta Falcons, but he is already 29 and would only be a stop gap action. The Team can sign free agents based on whatever is put in place by the NFL for the 2011 season. This is an unknow as of 5/9/11. The Skins' contracts for offensive linemen not including resigning of Jammal Brown and Stephon Heyer is approximately $27 million.
A table for undrafted offensive line prospects has been included. A few OLs not in the initial list have been added from the blog at JDC15's suggestion. When available the National Football Posts grades have been included for these players. Also the link to this grading scheme is included - (NFP Grading System). The UDFAs have been arrayed in their table by these grades. Mims has been included because he has arms that are nearly 37 inches long rather than due to his speed. There are other UDFA that have not been included. The Team can bring any number of these guys in for a try out.
FF = fantasy football index. NA = not available. NK = not known. The asterisk (*) before a event results is from a Pro Day comparable to the combines, but may have different conditions effecting the comparative value to the same event as the combine. Since not all NFL combines have not been held at the same place, this reduces the comparability somewhat.

2011 Undrafted Offensive Line Prospects
There are some UDFA offensive line prospects that have gained recognition. For instance, J.C. Brignone, C, Mississippi State. had a good showing in the East-West game. Eric Mensik, Oklahoma, in his first season as an offensive lineman, was selected first team OT in Big 12 by the coaches, plus he has zone blocking experience. Zach Kendall, OG, Kansas State, was a contributor to one of the better running offenses in the Big 12, and was selected to the Big second team OG. Of interest to the Redskins, D.J. Jones, a tackle from Nebraska, and Kristofer O'Dowd, C, USC have zone blocking experience.
This is the second version of the offensive linemen prospects since almost all of the OLs on the previous version (March 2011) were drafted. Consequently, this is a list of undrafted players.

I liked a lot of this guys picks, but thought the Skins could do better.
10 - WASHINGTON – trade down potentials
Steve0 has some good propositions for Redskins’ trade downs.
http://www.hogshaven.com/2011/4/15/2113084/how-the-redskins-can-trade-out-of-the-first-round#comments
The Skins could bypass the trade down route, but this isn’t the best approach whether it’s for Robert Quinn, Tyron Smith, Nick Fairley, or Julio Jones. Yet it is a reach for other players in the first round with #10.
For instances Jake Locker is ranked about #26. Phil Taylor may be early 2nd round.
1st round Jake Locker, QB
The second round pick without a trade down does not get any easier. For instance, 2nd round potential picks Rodney Hudson, Justin Houston, or Christian Ponder (In lieu of Jake Locker in the first. Substitute Phil Taylor for Locker).
2nd round Rodney Hudson
Additional pick(s) with trade down(s):
2nd round
Justin Houston, OLB, Georgia
3rd round
Jerrell Powe, DT, Mississippi; Jordan Todman, RB, Connecticut; Delone Carter, RB, Syracuse; or Jalil Brown, CB, Colorado
5th round
(pick 144) David Arkin, G, Missouri State or Brandon Fusco, C, Slippery Rock
(pick 155) Tori Gurley, WR, South Carolina or Roy Helu, RB, Nebraska
6th Round
(pick 177) Chris Neild, NT, West Virginia or Martin Parker, DT, Richmond
7th round
(pick 213) Aldrick Robinson, WR, SMU
(pick 224) Jonathan Freeny, OLB, Rutgers
(pick 253) Jarriel King, OT, South Carolina
Nose Tackle Possibilities in the 2011 Draft
Description of the nose tackle position and responsibilities.
Also the Draft Tek's ranking of NTs for the 2011 draft are included with this link. Many of the players listed toward the bottom of the following table will be undrafted free agents. The Redskins should be able to find some NTs on this list.
Abbreviations: BRep=bench repetitions; VJump=vertical jump; 20Yd, 10Yd are time splits of the 40Yd (40 yard); BJump=broad jump; SIG=Scouts Inc grade; NFP=National Football Post ratingss. NA=not available; --= not performed; and *= Pro day results.
There are some anomalies in this list. For instances, Terrell McClain would seem more like the athletic ability (while short) of a 3-4 DE. Also reports on Frank Kearse seem contradictory: Kearse Impresses Scouts at A&M Pro Day. On the other hand, Scouts Inc. only gave him a grade of 20 which indicates on pro potential.
Not since 2007 has twelve NFL team scouts showed up at the Louis Crews Stadium on Monday for Alabama A&M's annual pro day. Most left impressed with Bulldog defensive tackle Frank Kearse. The 6-4, 315-pound prospect put up impressive numbers in front of representatives from the Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots, Tampa Bay Bucs, Houston Texans, St. Louis Rams, Atlanta Falcons and Pittsburg Steelers.

Lower Round Draft Pick or UDFA Possibilities
There are a few lower round offensive line prospects that have gained some recognition, yet are still ranked in the lower rounds of the draft. Some of the will end up being undrafted free agents. For instance, J.C. Brignone, C, Mississippi State. had a good showing in the East-West game. Eric Mensik, Oklahoma, in his first season as an offensive lineman, was selected first team OT in Big 12 by the coaches. Zach Kendall, OG, Kansas State, which had one of the better running offenses in the Big 12, was selected to the second team.
Click on the player's names in the table to access further information on each player or access National Football Post Rankings By Player for their scouting reports.
Zach Kendall's pro day is on 3/15 and Rob McGill 's pro day is on 3/17. The tables maybe updated if the information can be found.
Abbreviations used in the tables: BRep = bench press repetitions at 225 lbs. VJump = vertical jump. 20 Yd and 10Yd are subfractions of 40 yard times in seconds. NA = not available. The asterisk before a event results is from a Pro Day comparable to the combines, but may have different conditions effecting the comparative value to the same event as the combine.
There seems to be inconsistent grading in the below list. Schilling is not as fast as most of the other OLs in the 10 yard split yet he is graded higher by NFP. Three other OL on this list have higher Scouts inc. grades (SIG). His other skills apparently out weighed other abilities with NFP evaluators. (NFP Grading System).

Washington Redskins 3/10 Maake Kemoeatu (DT) signed (two-year contract).
Report: Blaine Gabbert's stock now slipping
According to ESPN's Mel Kiper, Mizzou QB Blaine Gabbert's draft stock has begun "slipping" heading into the Scouting Combine.
According to Kiper, Gabbert's fall has occurred after NFL teams did "more film work" on the underclassman's junior year. It's true that Gabbert did not dominate his competition in 2010, throwing for 16 touchdowns compared to nine picks and averaging an unimpressive 6.71 yards per attempt. Gabbert was much better as a sophomore.
Potential 2011 Offensive Line Adjustments
After the jump, detailed combine and draft information is presented for the current Redskins' offensive line and for potential 2011 free agent OL acquisitions.
The combine information gives some notion of a player's athleticism compared to others playing the same position. The 10 yard times are a better indication for linemen than longer distance times since it is more related to where their play takes place. For some of the younger Skins' players it is somewhat a measure of potential, i.e., Xavier Fulton, Selvish Capers, and Erik Cook, since they have not played in regular season games. The table for the Redskins' offensive linemen is sort of arrayed in descending athleticism order. While Jammal Brown is high on the list, it goes without saying that his abilities have done some declining with his injuries. Derrick Dockery never was one of the fastest players during his time in the NFL. Erik Cook's times suggest that he is not suited for zone blocking schemes although he had a successful college career, but at his position his profile is closer to Dockery's. Now Litch moves fairly well within the 10 yard range and had a decent 10 yard time of 1.75 seconds which was better than Logan Mankins. On the other hand, Capers and Fulton's times and jumping events suggest that they can fit well in ZBS and still have NFL possibilities.

What draft pick will the Skins get for Tyron from the Colts?
NFL Draft 2011 Traded Picks

The pick for Justin Tyron has been described as conditional. It seems to be between the respective front offices what the conditions of the trade were. There are no clues when searching for Indianapolis or Washington at the above links.
