Testudo Times Article about James Franklin

and how good his foot tastes after saying something stupid and then having to back track. For the record I think everyone should have hot wives, but than again, I am not part of the crowd that was offended by the comment.

Either way I thought it was funny that he made the front page of yahoo for non football related reasons.

Testudo Times Reminder to everyone that

Maryland plays at 11AM tomorrow on ESPNU in the Palestra. We really need to rebound with a win to get some momentum back for the hard part of our ACC schedule, and by that I mean ... the rest of it.

This really is worth a fanpost, I just thought that the weird time might throw people off. If you are like me, you would start wondering what time the game is sometime around 1PM on Saturday, So hopefully I saved someone a lot of frustration and kept them from missing the game.

Testudo Times It is truly a numbers game for Edsall

Ok... I am tired of the back and forth on Edsall, with the "gotta give him at least 3 years" or "fire him for poor performance". A lot of arguments can be made either way, so they are kind of pointless. First off, I will watch every game regardless of how good or bad we are. I was against the RE hire from the jump, but when I am faced with a debate over my school, I look at what I want to happen and weigh it against the numbers. I thought it would not be financially feasible to fire Edsall, but look at the history.

In 2000, Ralph increased attendeance by an avg of 9,436 per game. This would be the equivalent of making a splash with the next coach in 2012.  Assuming people spend about $60 per game(parking, ticket, food and beverage... low estimate I think, but anyway) This equated to an extra $6.01 million in revenue in a single season. That could easily pay for your buyout. Then after the original year, Ralph increased revenue by an average of $450,000.00 per year. (Than he started going backwards until he was resigned/ fired).

Now the flip side of the coin using history, regardless of it being Edsall. Here are the years following bad seasons.

Yr.                           Record                              Attendance Drop per game                       Financial +/- yr.

1989-90               3-7  to  6-5                                   -4,200                                                  -$1.24 mil.

1991-92               2-10 to 3-9                                 -10,300                                                 -$3.70 mil.

1993-94               2-9   to  4-7                                   -7,400                                                 -$2.52 mil.

2009-10               2-10 to 9-4                                   -5,400                                                  -$2.20 mil.

So no matter what Edsall does next year, we are looking at around $2.4 million deficit on top of our already bad financial situation. The numbers make sense even though they are very rudimentary. Edsall has to go, so their goes the financial argument. So for all of you out there that say he needs more time... Time is money and the more time he gets the more money OUR school loses and the further we get set back from excellence. I am a huge fan and will never be accused otherwise, and me calling for his head has a base behind it and is not short sided. So if you find your self arguing to no avail... point to the numbers, they never lie.

I am so happy the ACC is being proactive about their conference. How awesome would it be to have the ACC be a legitimate power conference in football... and then dear lord think about Bball.

Testudo Times One and done rule opinion

What do you think of this instead of the current one and done. A high school kid would have the option to go pro directly from school (no agent) He would get to go through the draft process including the draft. If he gets drafted than fine, if not, he can go to school wherever he signed a letter of intent. But he would then be tied to the school for three years minimum. He would not be eligible to enter another draft until after his junior year. Tell me what you think. Maybe collectively we can come up with the perfect rule.

Testudo Times I guess we all just became big VT fans

I think we all should be rooting for VT to beat Clemson as well as UNC ironically. If Clemson loses to VT (assuming we beat UVA) we would get the 6 seed making our path more friendly through the tourney. If UNC beats Duke they get the 1 seed. Personally I think we match up much better against Duke than we do against UNC. This would make our path GT, FSU, Duke, then UNC... maybe. The 8/9 is UVA vs. Miami. UNC beat Miami by 3 and UVA by 6, so possible upset there : ) If they got past them it would be VT, whom they only beat by 3 again, causing us to be VT fans again. My wife is a hokie so this should be fun. The fat hasn't sung but she is warming up... let's go Terps. What do you all think of my pipe dream ACC tourney.

Testudo Times Wally Judge

Just an FYI for everyone concerned that their has been no news for Judge. Scarlet Fever reported that he has not been released to even talk to schools yet. So even if he is dying to come here, Gary is not allowed to talk to him yet publicly.

Just thought people on here would like to know that.

Testudo Times Mike Leach For OC

Hahaha... good god what an epic failure this is turning out to be. This is me grasping as the hope that this is a bad dream.

Who would be the best OC candidate at this point ... realistically too?

Would locksley be open to being a recruiting director?

Testudo Times UMD Philosophical Question...

If you could play a Genie or God or Buddah or whatever you believe in for a day and were given the power to grant two wins over Pitt and Texas/Illinois or take a win over FSU in football this past weekend, and you could only pick one. Which would you choose? (obviously this would be the 1st thing you would do with such power as well)

I would personally take the FSU game because I expect to see success on a regular basis from BBall team, but ACC championship chances are fewer and farther between?

Just curious to think what you all think.

Testudo Times Fire Friedgen another way to look at it.

Personally I really like Ralph. I think he is a great mentor to the kids on the team. I think he is a great leader and role for these players. Sadly, that doesn't make him a great recruiter or coach. In division 1 sports you must be one or the other. Ex. See Gary Williams and Calipari. (i know there is a lot of Calipari venom on this site, but the man can get players to go to his university... and I will leave it at that : ) But back to why Ralph needs to go. I don't think he is a bad coach by any stretch of the imagination. I think he gets more out his players than most would, (the players should be higher quality when we get them in here) There are a lot of really good coaches out there to be had. I am throwing my two cents and campaigning for Mike Leach. He is great friends with Kevin Plank, he can recruit better than anything we have ever come close to seeing, and his offense is so much fun to watch. I think it would be best for the new AD to start with a new FB coach so he has something to stake claim too. If he inherits everything, what can we really judge him on. Plus he isn't getting rid of Gary b/c he gets to leave on his own accord by standing ovation in my opinion.

Back to Leach: I don't care that he is a little prickly to talk to or that his personality is rough and hard to get used to. That dude wins and winning makes my life easier and more fun. (I think he had one season at .500 at TTech plus a lot of 10 win seasons) When you have a winning program, you don't have to talk about the coach all the time, it becomes more about the football. We have become a decent football program in the last ten years, and I think it is time to transition into being an ACC power.

I also don't like a lot of the replacements people have brought up on the site. I think Billick would be terrible personally, same with Tice (even though he was a UMD Grad) NFL coaches don't seem to fare very well in college ball.

Anyway, I will get off my soap box and wait to here what you all think. Please kick up some opinions.

Testudo Times ACC Tourney and recruits?

Does anyone know if you are allowed to host recruits for the ACC tourney? I was just thinking this would be a great opportunity for some of the recruits in NC to see an ACC tourney atmosphere and allow us some more face time with one CJ Leslie. Since he only lives like 1 1/2 hrs away from the venue. I don't know if that is allowed though or if it is against any NCAA rules. Let me know if you are aware of any regulations that might prohibit this. Thanks!

Testudo Times ACC Tourney Outlook

Let's think about this. With 2nd place looking like the most likely scenario, check out what the tourney bracket would look like if it started today.

The top half of the bracket would have  Duke, UVA, BC, Wake Forest, NC State, and VT. My impression is ouch. That bracket has 3 of the 4 teams that scare me (Duke, Wake, VT). Plus UVA could get hot again and give anyone a run (unlikely but true).

Now our bracket... UMD, FSU, GT, Miami, Clemson, and UNC. Just so you know, we have beaten every single one of those teams this year. FSU we swept so not a big scare there. UNC and Miami will probably be eliminated by the time we'd see them. Clemson we know we can beat but is a solid team and GT would be challenging but at least we have already beaten them.

I really like the way this bracket shapes up. My question is would you rather have the regular season championship or the tourney championship?

Discuss!

Testudo Times Looking way too far Ahead ... Tourney breakdown

I was curious to see how we would match up against the #1 seeds in the NCAA Tourney. Here is the quick synopsis of what I came up with. Assuming the #1 seeds are Kansas and Kentucky very probable and 2 others between Syracuse, Villanova, Purdue and Duke.

Comparison for Kansas: Collins and Vasquez match up pretty well, collins is quicker but gives up some size.  Henry and Hayes another pretty good match up, virtually identical across stat line.  Morris and Aldrich vs. Jwill and Milbourne. Milbourne will create problems defensively for    Kansas, but in the end we would get dominated on the boards at both ends, they are just way to big. Mosely and Taylor are virtually the same player.  In the end we just get out rebounded which would greatly affect our offensive output.

Comparison For Kentucky: Don't need to say much about Kentucky. This is probably the worst matchup we could face. We have no one that could stop cousins inside. Even with a double team scheme, they have Patterson and Orton who could kill us. Another UMD killer would be wall... historically GV doesn't do that well against good quick guards (IE. Lawson, Douglas) This team just beats us at almost every position.

Comparison for Syracuse: Here is where I think we actually matchup well. They do not really out size us like the other teams. They also run the 2-3 zone which is very beatable with good outside shooting (where we excel this year). They are not a very high scoring team but they do pose some problematic matchups. If we can shoot well and keep W. Johnson at bay, I believe we have good shot to beat them.

Comparison for Villanova: We all know we played a horribly sloppy game against them early without Dino. If we don't turn the ball over we would play them very close. Only problem is Pena's rebounding. Other than that we match up very well against them. Very similar offenses and defenses. I think this game would basically come down to rebounding.

Comparison for Duke: I think we all know about duke and how that match up would go. Hopefully we get to play them two more times this season to find out who the better team is.

Comparison for Purdue: Honestly, the only thing I know about Purdue is that Hummel is legit and they play an incredibly boring brand of basketball against the Big Ten (pretty good conf.) This game would come down to tempo. Whoever can push the pace of the game would probably win. They don't have a lot of size and I think we could handle their guards pretty well. This would be a good matchup for us.

Hopefully we get to find out if we can beat one of these teams.

Let me know what you think...

Testudo Times Sometimes I Wonder How Duke has a single Fan

Here is a collection of funny things me and my friends periodicly send to each other. They make us nod our head in bewilderment and fuel the venom we have for the Dookies. Somehow, every year they look like they assembled the cast of Hoosiers and decided to play D1 basketball. Hopefully you can enjoy these clips, pics, and articles. May they act as hype for Saturday's monster game. Terps by 6!!!

Testudo Times Question for Debate?

Would you consider a loss to UNC a "bad loss" in the eyes of bracketology?

When looking at the matchup, do you you see it as a game against a storied UNC program, where beating them is always considered a good win. Or do you look at the fact that they are a mediocre 13-8 and in 2nd to last place in the ACC. Lastly, do you look at RPI where they are still a top 100 team thus making them "good" not "Great."

What are your thoughts?
