Trolling //RANT
Hey guys and gals, this might not qualify as a fanpost, but it needs to be said. This could be considered a rant so don't read if you don't want to.
If you have not noticed, traffic has picked up between our rival sites and us. There will be individuals who come here just to troll BTB, just like any other year, but primarily right now since the Eagles are the "offseason champs" . There will also be knowledgeable fans who come over to debate logically and reasonably.

Myth Busters: Cowboys Edition
So I've been thinking about doing something a little fun before this lockout ends and we start talking real football again with new material. I thought of a little thing we could all participate in that resembles the TV show "Myth Busters". I am sure most of you have seen it, but for the ones that have not the basic premise is they take an urban myth and either confirm it to be plausible, or confirm the unlikelihood of said event. Well, we all know there are constant "myths" about our beloved Cowboys so I'd like to see BTB participate in putting them all out on the table and stating the case for why they should be confirmed or not. I would like to update accordingly (while giving props to the person who thought it up) so that all myths are in the post and you can scroll down to join the discussion in myths you might dispute.
We will start simple so here goes nothing:

Prediction Game
The draft is soon approaching, and I thought it would be fun to see who could correctly guess the most players in their correct draft spot in Round 1. You don't have to name teams or trade scenarios, just who goes at what spot 1-32. Simple right? We shall see :) Here is my prediction:
Draft Day War Room
With the First Pick of the 2011 Draft, the Carolina Panthers have selected Nick Fairley DT Auburn.
Draft day has finally begun. Blood is coursing through the veins as we sit in the War Room awaiting our pick at number 9. As the clock ticks we stare at our board in eager anticipation for what awaits us over the next few days.
Patrick Peterson.... DaQuan Bowers.... Marcell Dareus.... Blaine Gabbart.... A.J. Green.
We pause momentarily, knowing we only have one Blue Chip worthy prospect left in Robert Quinn. Do we move up to grab him, or hope he somehow falls to us like Dez did? We talk it over, but with so many needs simply can't afford the trade up. We watch as he drops off the board just as expected. It is slowly working it's way down to us as we mull over our options at 9. We get a phone call from none other than the enemy commonly referred to as Bill Belichick.

Reality Check
There are many here that are up in arms, going crazy, preemptively calling this year a bust, saying I told you so. Let's be real, since that's what we do here. I am not seeing all rainbows and butterflies right now, but one thing you won't take from me is my faith in this team. Until they are completely and totally ruled out of the playoffs I'm not going to say bust. Ok you want reality I will give it to you.
Tony Romo and Co.
We all know what went wrong this Sunday and I'm in the acceptance stage finally. I am moving on to look at the things I noticed about how well Tony Romo and his receivers worked. There were obviously occasional miscues, but on the whole I'm not to dissapointed. So without further ado here we go.
Food for Thought
I would like to precede this post by saying I have had a very emotional night, and apologize if this is not the correct outlet to express my thoughts on the topic. In my opinion it directly impacts not only the sport we all know and love, and our favorite team, but it affects our privelage to even be on this blog freely discussing our opinions. If this is not welcome here I will remove it, or a mod can take it down if they don't view it appropriate.

Need season opener tickets??
Ok well as the title indicates I can get a select few Cowboys vs Redskins tickets to the season opener. If you are in the area and want to come out to show your support, but don't want to spend an arm and a leg, I have access to great seats at almost a quarter of the going rate. I work for an important man in DC and it sometimes has its perks, so come out and enjoy the game with me! Cheers, and Semper Fidelis.
BTB Fantasy Football
We established a BTB fantasy football league in June, but we have an opening that needs filled. One spot open, draft next weekend. Yahoo League = BTB #32333
Join up ASAP!
Predicting the unpredictable- NFC edition
Hello BTB. I've been out of pocket for a minute but I've been reading through the articles and posting when I can. I've also taken some time to sit down and mock out the season (for the NFC) to fill some free time. I'd like to hear other peoples opinions on exactly how this season will pan out. As I stated in the title though, I know you can't necessarily predict what will happen, but you can make a logical guess at least just for fun. If anything you can look back after this season and say you were either on point or way off base with your predictions. On a slight side note: Since these are predictions, I am leaving Brett Favre on my prediction roster because I believe he will play. You don't have to follow that same logic so feel free to account for whatever curveballs you believe will occur.

Holdout Hypothetical
Just to preface this, I am not naive enough to believe any of these are a true possibilty, BUT if you could choose between any of the current players holding out for bigger contracts etc who exactly would you choose? Some would help our system more than others, while some would make just another huge cog in the 'Boys machine.
Here are a few of the major individuals and why they don't want to play for their respective team at this time:
Albert Haynesworth - DT - Does not want to play DT in the 3-4 system
Chris Johnson - RB - Does not want to play for a "measly" $550,000
Elvis Dumerville - OLB - Signed his tender, but wants a new bigger longer contract
Andre Johnson - WR - Wants a new contract
Darrelle Revis - CB - Unhappy with contract negotiations
Vincent Jackson - WR - Will not sign tender, or play until he receives a new contract
Marcus McNeil - LT - Wants a new contract
So who would you take if it was a perfect world and we were the only kid in the candy store?
Kicking our 'Boys while their down?
So as we all know we are easily the most polar team in the NFL. People love or hate us and that's why we get put in Primetime so often. People watch the Cowboys and root for or against them loyally. Now we know there are many fans from teams that root against us with anger I don't completely understand. If you remember the posts OCC made last year "Trolling the game day threads" you see fans from teams we have no real beef with bashing our 'Boys. So I contemplated for awhile: If teams fans dislike us so much, how do those teams feel? I started looking through some stats and one thing I found odd was on a whole teams like to pile points on us more than the average team. I have broken down the last 8 years to compare the average points we beat teams by and the deficits we lost by. This all includes playoffs because there is no reason I see to leave them out. As a matter of fact, if you really want to show somebody you're the team to beat what better place is there to embarrass someone right?

BTB Fantasy Football Anyone?
I participate in Yahoo! Fantasy Football every year, and I know some Cowboy fans do as well so here we go. I have set up a Yahoo! league for any fantasy BTB'er. It is a basic league so even if you haven't played before it won't be hard to comprehend. Just sign up with your BTB name (so we know who's who) and we will do the draft much much closer to the start of the season. If you have any questions post them and I'll provide the answers. We can make adjustments to rules/draft date etc as well once the league fills up.

Barber looking good
Slimmed down and looking quicker according to NFL.com
A good problem???
As we all know the offseason is the slowest part of the year. We like hearing any possible updates from OTA's, and TC, but we want to see our 'Boys in action! Well here is a little thing that I can't help but contemplate in my downtime. How good are we REALLY? I know we all ask ourselves this, but I am really optimistic about the upcoming year. Here's why.
What areas have we improved, and where have we declined. This is the main question right now. Looking across the board on offense we have lost Flo and replaced him with Free (doubtful but Barron technically has a shot to start instead). Upgrade or downgrade is debatable at this point because we have nothing to really base it upon. I would give it a positive for the simple reason of youth needs to be brought into this line. We don't want to do it all at once after our O-line fails we need to stay ahead of the 8-ball. I'll leave it at a wash for argument sake though. Next we have the addition of Dez Bryant. I don't see how this could possibly be a non-factor. He will improve our offense it just depends on how many reps he gets how much of an impact he will make. We also have the RW quotes about the connection from Romo to RW being night and day between last year and this year. This is an X-factor on a lot of different levels. If he is who we hoped he was on trade day he would help our offense immensely, but that would slow the Dez takeover so we shall see. I give our offense an improvement grade.
Looking across the board on defense we have lost Ken Hamlin and replaced him for now with Alan Ball. This is yet again an unknown, but I don't see Ken Hamlin as a huge loss. Either Ball or Mike Hamlin could come in and do a much better job than Ken. AOA is waiting in the wings while being groomed, but with Hamlin out of the depth chart he has a better chance for growth. We definately upgraded our Linebacking Corps with the addition of Lee added to the fact we have Jason Williams coming back from his injury. We also traded Barbie for offensive depth which was a big plus. I give our defense an improvement grade.
Looking across the board a special teams. We know we have much more of a return threat regardless of who we go with. We upgraded Our return game without a doubt. No KR last year for TD's? That's going to change I hope and believe.
The problem we are having is all we have to talk about really are Dez related issues from impact to his mother, RW's media relations, and our depth. We have three running backs we all want to see get plenty of touches, to many receivers to receive targets their way, and who's going to take over our line. We addressed the back-up DT with Lissemore (I hope) and we have options at safety. So where we stand our problems are nothing compared to most so I am optimistic because of that. How many other teams are going into this year after improving in all three phases? A handful... MAYBE. Some still have major issues. We know where our problems lie, but is it bad enough to worry about like a winning season is on the line? No i don't think so. Like I always say, this is just one mans opinion, so comment on what you like or bash my thoughts. Either way here's to a great year of Cowboys football. Cheers, and Semper Fi!
Charles Barkley's favorite NFL player = Dez Bryant
Yahoo! published an article in regards to Charles Barkley's favorite NFL'er being Dez Bryant. Glad he's getting shown some love. Watch the clip, it's a good take on the situation.
"Defense Wins Championships"
So we've all heard the phrase, but I'm trying to grasp the truth behind it as the NFL is concerned now. Does defense win championships? Does offense win championships? Is it a combination? I would like some other perspectives to see if I'm looking at this properly.
We can start with last years playoff teams and where they rank in relation to Defense and Offensive production.
Defense points allowed per game:
1. New York Jets-14.8ppg
2. Dallas Cowboys-15.6ppg
3. Baltimore Ravens-16.3ppg
5. New England Patriots- 17.8ppg
6. Cincinatti Bengals- 18.2ppg
7. Green Bay Packers-18.6ppg
8. Indianapolis Colts-19.2ppg
10. Minnesota Vikings- 19.5ppg
11. San Diego Chargers-20ppg
14. Arizona Cardinals-20.3ppg
19. Philadelphia Eagles-21.1ppg
20. New Orleans Saints-21.3ppg
Ok so what we see here is that 8 out of the top 10 teams in Defensive points allowed are playoff caliber teams, and they only two that aren't in the top half of the league are the Eagles and Saints. So now lets look at the offensive side of the ball.
Offense points scored per game:
1. New Orleans Saints-31.9ppg
2. Minnesota Vikings- 29.4ppg
3. Green Bay Packers-28.8ppg
4. San Diego Chargers-28.4ppg
5. Philadelphia Eagles-26.8ppg
6. New England Patriots- 26.7ppg
7. Indianapolis Colts-26ppg
9. Baltimore Ravens-24.4ppg
11. Arizona Cardinals-23.4ppg
14. Dallas Cowboys-22.6ppg
17. New York Jets-21.8ppg
22. Cincinatti Bengals- 19.1ppg
Ok so again we see that 8 out of 10 teams in offensive points scored are playoff caliber teams, while 2 teams fall in the bottom half of the league being the Jets and Bengals.
Showing 1 - 21 of 21
