Tonight at 8:00 ET: White Sox Talk with South Side Larry

+

The White Sox enjoy their first off day today off to a solid 3-2 start so far in 2012. Tonight, on the first in-season episode of White Sox Off Day, Kevin and I talk with Larry about the keys to the Sox start plus which prospects Sox fans should keep an eye on throughout the season. Then we'll take calls and keep on rapping about the White Sox as long as you all want to.

"If you're a...baseball fan sick of suboptimal decisions resulting in painful losses, the man to blame is a late Chicago sportswriter named Jerome Holtzman. Fifty-three years ago, in an effort to shift more recognition unto underappreciated relief pitchers, Holtzman invented the save statistic. Today, that invention is responsible for far more unintended consequences, and far more heartache, than Holtzman could have ever intended. Bloody battles are fought over the ill-begotten riches that saves bestow on those who can get them. Managers lose games for their teams by getting seduced by saves. Pitchers who fail in save situations get labeled as gutless pariahs. It needs to end now. It's time to kill the save, send it to hell, and strand it there for eternity."

AJ Pierzynski to Dan Patrick: "Sometimes you just need a rally beer."

Today, Dan Patrick inquired as to whether AJ and any of his teammates had ever done the same (as the Red Sox players), and AJ thusly: "Yes, absolutely I have before," Pierzynski told "The Dan Patrick Show." "Sometimes you’re just really struggling and you just say, ‘Hey, you know what, I need something to calm me down and let’s have a beer.’ A couple of us will do it together, and sometimes it works out. "It’s just, sometimes you just need a rally beer. If you’re in extra innings and you’re in about the 15th inning and you really need to get going again, that sometimes works for you." He apparently clarified that he wouldn’t have a whole beer, just a few sips. Also, he and some teammates took shots before the 2008 ALDS.

While Gordon Beckham's Guitar Gently Weeps: on this melancholy day on the South Side, this cover of The Outfield's classic "Your Love" (by j.j.) perfectly sums up the mood of White Sox Nation in 2011.

As Carlos Zambrano Exits, Ol' Reliable Mark Buehrle Stands Alone in Chicago

I posted this over at Midwest Sports Fans this morning, but I wanted to share with the SSS crew as well. (Anything positive the night after facing Bruce Chen, right?) After hearing about Carlos...
