The Phinsider Wildcat? Oh you knew it was coming!!

Madden NFL 10 is an American football video game based on the National Football League that was published by EA Sports and developed by EA Tiburon. It is the 21st annual installment in the Madden NFL video game franchise. On-field authenticity and emotion is taken to another level in Madden NFL 10. With more control over the outcome of the play than ever before, players can drag defenders towards the first down marker, fight for a fumble at the bottom of the pile, and avoid the rush by stepping up into the pocket. Utilizing an all-new animation technology, Madden NFL 10 ensures that the Fight For Every Yard doesn't end until the whistle blows.Blah blah blah.. Lets get to the pictures Jersquall!! O.k. gosh..

The Phinsider Dolphins about to break HUGE NFL record.

Fins' turnaround already among best ever

December 8, 2008

Posted by ESPN.com's Tim Graham

At this point last season, the Miami Dolphins were 0-13. That's Detroit Lions territory. That's epic awfulness.

Now look at the Dolphins. They're in a three-way tie with the New York Jets and New England Patriots for the AFC East lead. The Dolphins control their own destiny and meet the Jets in the Dec. 28 season finale at the Meadowlands.

With Sunday's victory over the Buffalo Bills in the Rogers Centre, the Dolphins are 8-5 already giving them a plus-7 win differential from last year, when they became one of only eight teams to finish 1-15 since the NFL went to a 16-game schedule in 1978.

The Dolphins have three more opportunities to match and surpass the 1997 Jets and 1992 Indianapolis Colts, who pulled off plus-8 improvements. Thanks to ESPN researcher Russell Baxter for passing along the information for the chart.

No 1-15 club has reached the playoffs the following season.

The NFL record for the biggest win differential from one season belongs to the 1999 Colts, who won 13 games a year after they won three.Fins turnaround already among best ever. Check out the chart.

The Phinsider Matt Cassel better, Fins DB's need big game!

And here.. we......Go!

Matt Cassel didn’t play particularly well in the Patriots shocking 38-13 home loss to the Miami Dolphins in their first matchup. He threw an interception, lost a fumble and didn’t deliver any big pass plays to Randy Moss or any other receiver for that matter. He now has the Patriots at 6-4 and sunday he will once again face our Miami Dolphins but things are a little different.. If he see's an opening, Cassel will tuck the ball and run with it and his scrambling gaines positive yards for the Patriots.

I have also noticed when the pocket begins to collapse on Cassel instead of tucking and running, Cassel gently stepped forward, eyes still focused downfield, and deliverse to one of his intended receivers. Buying himself that extra time in the pocket is something he wasn’t necessarily doing with any consistency earlier this season. That being said, We need our cornerbacks and safetys to step up. Interceptions kill! They kill drive, momentum and most of all points! Hope for a huge game by our DB's because if not they will be on the Jugs machine that spits balls out to help players practice good catching form all next week. :)

What do you think will be key to our DB's shutting down Cassel to Wesker and Moss ?

It's NEVER to early here at Phinsider!!!

Especially when our Miami Dolphins play a roll.

This new team has an identity and it has a coach who trust's his players. A coach who cares about his players. The time of rebuilding is over. This team is built and has been revamped from the floor up. The Miami Dolphins organization is just that once again. Organized. The guys at yahoo sports agree. Here's the way they see it weeks ahead mind you..

In: Jets, Broncos, Dolphins, Packers
Out: Colts, Chargers, Ravens, Bears

AFC First Round Byes:
Tennessee Titans

NFC First Round Byes:

The Phinsider Just thinking out loud..

The time is now..

No longer is this team a team that hangs it's head in shame. The days of uncertainty are behind us. This new team has an identity and it has a coach who trust's his players. A coach who cares about his players. The time of rebuilding is over. This team is built and has been revamped from the floor up. The Miami Dolphins organization is just that once again. Organized.

Dolphin players fight tooth and nail for every yard, every play. There are very few stars on this team this year but their time is coming.

No longer will this team be pushed aside for prime time viewing by the likes of Monday Night Football and Sunday night football. The powers that be will be force to take notice of The Miami Dolphins who are about to change peoples way of thinking. They are not that 1-15 team who vanished at the end of last season only to be recognized as the team who gets the number one draft choice a few months later. Those days are over. The time is now, Their time is now.

The Phinsider Lovin that Sapp..

And you think Joey Porter has a mouth on him. lol.

Sapp predicts Porter will abuse Raiders

November 14, 2008

Posted by ESPN.com's Tim Graham

Warren Sapp couldn't just predict a big game for Miami Dolphins outside linebacker Joey Porter against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday and leave it at that.

No, Sapp had to take his analysis to the extreme, as he's wont to do.

Sapp, a weekly guest on Miami radio station WQAM with former Dolphins tight end Jim Mandich, ragged on Raiders left tackle Kwame Harris.

"You can't give a team that is not on your level any life to play with you," Sapp said. "If the Dolphins come out, get Porter talking and going crazy ... Get on the quarterback because that left tackle couldn't block my little girl. I watched the tape. The guy couldn't block Mercedes Sapp. I promise you he couldn't. She takes him to the house."

Porter, or somebody on the Dolphins defense, better have a big game now.

"The Dolphins have to be ready to take their punch, make them miss, and then knock them out right then," Sapp said, "because once you get a team like that in your house and you punch them in the mouth and you knock them down, they'll quit. They'll quit because they know they are not as good as you, and they know they don't have a chance. So you can't give them life."

The Phinsider Is it time for a Rookie salary cap? Guaranteed moneys

I found an old article online about an interesting subject.. A rookie salary cap. I changed a few things to update it abit but it brings up a few good points.

-----------------------------------

Orlando Pace had seven Pro Bowl selections and six All-Pro selections. Walter Jones has eight Pro Bowl selections and seven All-Pro selections. Chris Samuels has five Pro Bowl selections.

They are among the elite players at their position. Who is the highest paid tackle in the NFL? Jake Long.

Who did Long overtake as the highest paid tackle in the NFL? Pace, Jones or Samuels?  Nope. It was Joe Thomas. Thomas made the Pro Bowl in his first year, but only after replacing Buffalo’s Jason Peters. When Thomas signed his deal following the 2007 NFL draft, he was the highest paid tackle in the NFL.

What do Long, Thomas, and Williams have in common? They all got paid a ton of money before doing anything in the NFL. Thomas seems to have worked out, but Williams was a bust.  Jake Long is holding his own and playing well.

Ex-NFLPA head honcho Gene Upshaw was opposed to a rookie salary cap of any kind. As it stands now, the NFL pays based on projected talent, not actual production. Try applying this system of compensation to any other industry, and the ridiculousness is evident.

Imagine a lawyer, fresh out of college, being paid more than the senior partners of a law firm, or a first-year teacher being better compensated than a tenured professor. You can’t because it doesn’t happen. Outside the NFL, even in other major professional sports like the NBA or NHL, it doesn’t happen.

Upshaw (Who died before the season began) cited the short career length of the average NFL player for keeping the existing system, but the logic fails when extended beyond the first round. As more and more guaranteed money gets allocated to the Cedric Benson’s of the NFL, the Marion Barber’s must produce far above their draft position to get their fair share.

Maybe the next union leader will recognize the insanity of eating up valuable cap space on untested boom-or-bust rookies over established veterans. Perhaps even the rank and file of the NFLPA will take a principled stand and establish a slotted compensation system..

-----------------

Guaranted money

Something else that bothers me.. Deangelo Hall 16 million in injury-guaranteed bonuses..

Ernest  Wilford has signed a four-year deal worth $13 million with a whopping $6 million signing bonus considering he has not started a game..

Jake Long our left tackle was signed to a five-year contract with $30 million guaranteed,

2 of the 3 have not worked out.

What do you guys think should be done if anything?

End rant..

The Phinsider ESPN Expert picks, Seahawks at Dolphins

It's Unanimous! Everyones picking the Dolphins to win Sunday. It's been a long time coming.  Dolphins are not underdogs. Although some think they are.. If they cant pick on our special teams, Wide recieving core, DB's, QB, Defensive line, Running game, Kicking game.. ect, ect. Then we must be a different team than most of these experts thought we were at the beginning of the season! Well, this picture says it all. Check out all the experts who picked us! >.>

The Phinsider Congratulations: 11/2 edition

The good..

Congratulations: Miami Dolphins on getting back to .500 and giving your fans something to smile about.

Congratulations: Career days!

 Dan Carpenter kicked and made

(45, 47, 23 and 41 yards!).

Greg Camarillo for having his best game ever 11 catches for 111 yards and a touch down! and to think, No one thought you would even make it through mini camp.

Joey Porter 11.5 sacks and leading the league. Keep talkin that talk brotha..

Last but not least.. Congrats to our great coaching staff on their 4th win of the season.

The bad..

Congratulations: Detroit Lions for blowing a nice halftime lead to the Chicago Bears and remaining winless. (Been there, done that) Enjoy your first round pick in next years draft Lion fans. P.S. Put Daunte Culpepper in ASAP because damn..

Congratulations: Cincinatti Bengals on getting your first win of the season (1-8) which is better than getting your first win in the 15th game of the season. >.>

Congratulations: Oakland Raiders on getting negative yards and no first downs in the first half of play against the Atlanta Falcons. Atleast you did better the second half amounting 77 total yards (10 rushing) and getting a big goose egg for your effort! Lowest total in 47 years.

Congratulations: Brette Favre for earning your 300th interception. Keep up the good work gunslinger!

Thoughts and ideas welcomed.

The Phinsider Ricky Williams timeline

One hell of a ride Ricky..

December 1999: Ricky Williams finishes an injury-plagued rookie season with the Saints in which he rushes for 884 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games. Williams has difficult relationships with teammates, management and media because of behavior that is perceived as eccentric.

February 2001: A psychiatrist diagnoses Williams with social anxiety disorder.

April 2001: The Saints draft running back Deuce McAllister, in part because of indications Williams might play baseball full time.

May 2002: Williams fails a drug test soon after a trade to the Dolphins and is placed in the league's substance-abuse program.December 2003: Williams tests positive for marijuana a second time and is fined four weeks' pay; Williams appeals.

January 2004: Williams shaves his dreadlocks during a trip to Australia. Upon his return, Williams says the new haircut represents a fresh start.

July 23, 2004: Williams calls Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt to tell him of his decision to retire, one week before the start of training camp.

July 29, 2004: It becomes public that Williams had lost his appeal for his second failed test and had failed a third drug test, which calls for an automatic four-game suspension.

December 2004: Williams tells 60 Minutes he quit out of fear that his third failed drug test would become public knowledge.

June 2005: Williams is reinstated by the league. He must serve a four-game suspension at the start of the 2005 season and is subject to 10 random drug tests a month for the rest of his  NFL career.

December 2005: After sharing rushing duties with Ronnie Brown, Williams finishes the season with 168 carries for 743 yards. He fails a fourth drug test.

April 10, 2006: Williams appeals his fourth failed drug test.

April 25, 2006: Williams' appeal is denied and he is suspended from the NFL for one year. He is eligible for reinstatement for the 2007 season.

April 18, 2007: Williams sends a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell applying for reinstatement, a week before he can officially rejoin the league.

May 11, 2007: Sources say Williams tested positive for marijuana for a fifth time in April and will not be eligible to apply for reinstatement until September.

Oct. 1, 2007: Williams applies for re-instatement.

November 14, 2007:   Ricky is reinstated

November 26, 2007: Williams came into the weather-delayed game against the Steelers with Miami facing a third-and-4 at their own 20 and no score late in the first quarter. He ran 5 yards for a first down, but was held to a combined one yard on his next two carries.
The 2002 NFL rushing champion gained nine yards on three more carries over two possessions before being taken to the locker room with the shoulder injury.

August 30, 2008:

ESPN 's Chris Mortensen reports Dolphins sign RB Ricky Williams to extension through 2009.

This year Ricky has been praise by Bill Parcells and Tony Sparano and has shown he really is back.

The Phinsider Remember Jay Feely? Hahahaha

Feely in at KC on Monday out of KC on Tuesday

''Used from the Miami herald''

Former Dolphins kicker Jay Feely was signed by the Chiefs on Monday. He was cut Tuesday.

"It's shocking," Feely agent Glenn Schwartzmann told ESPN.com.

I would say, but the agent's shock would probably wear off if he saw the kicking numbers at Chiefs camp the last couple of days.

Feely connected on 11 of 15 tries Monday and 13 of 15 today. Pulling out my slide ruler, that is 24 of 30. Connor Barth connected on 28 of 30 and Nick Novak was 27 of 30 the past two days.

So Feely was third in a three-man race the past two days. Given the numbers, maybe his agent shouldn't be shocked.

Upon leaving the Dolphins Feely ripped the Dolphins, saying it was obvious to him how bad the team was going to be because of a lack of talent. Then, of course, he signs with a team the Dolphins dismantled, 24-0, and seemed much less talented than Miami.

So while his agent is shocked, Feely should be thrilled he was cut from a team less talented than Miami...

The Phinsider Chad Pennington, lots of numbers

Chad_medium

via i68.photobucket.com

He played college for Marshall University where he set school records in several passing categories and led the school to three Mid-American Conference titles.Randy Moss was Pennington's top receiver at Marshall. He finished 5th in Heisman voting during his senior year at Marshall. Pennington selected by the New York Jets in the first round and eighteenth (18th) overall pick of the 2000 NFL Draft.  Pennington finished his career at Marshall with 1,026 of 1,619 completions for 13,423 yards and 115 touchdowns, with only 45 interceptions

Pennington married his college girlfriend, Robin Hampton, on March 1, 2001. He famously brought his Jets playbook on his honeymoon. The couple have two sons, Cole (born 2004) and Luke (born 2006).

His last full season played was in 2006 for the New York Jets  and had 17 touchowns 16 interceptions a 64.5 passer rating and 3,352 yards but also had 7 fumbles, 4 lost.

Interesting to note..

Miami's Week 1 starting QBs over the last 5 years

2004 Jay Fiedler                  Lost

2005 Gus Frerotte              Won

2006 Daunte Culpepper   Lost

2007 Trent Green               Lost

2008 Chad Pennington    ?

He is the best we have had in 5 years. He gets to play for a legendary team now with the greatest fans. After a 1-15 season there is nowhere to go but up.

Go Dolphins!!

The Phinsider Jets at Fins big? umm Hell yeah!

This got my football juices flowing..  Ewwww

By ESPN.com's Tim Graham

As if football fans needed a television network to confirm it, CBS will present the suddenly compelling showdown between the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins as its top Week 1 game.

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, chairman of the NFL's broadcast committee, noted the decision Tuesday when Boston Globe reporter Christopher L. Gasper caught up with him at a foreclosure prevention workshop at Gillette Stadium.

CBS was expected to highlight the humdrum Kansas City Chiefs in the Patriots' first game since their astonishing Super Bowl loss.

But the Jets-Dolphins story lines are too rich for CBS to ignore. Brett Favre will be making his Jets debut against the man the Jets cut to accommodate him, Chad Pennington.

"He's a great, great player," Kraft said of Favre. "He's a great competitor. I think the Jets got stronger, and I think Miami got stronger getting [Chad] Pennington."

Also, the blanket will be pulled off Dolphins poobah (and former Jets head coach) Bill Parcells' reformation project. Tony Sparano will be coaching his first game.

Dolphins T Jake Long, the No. 1 overall pick, will square off against edge rusher and No. 6 selection Vernon Gholston, renewing their rivalry from when they were at Michigan and Ohio State, respectively.

Jets WR Laveranues Coles has taken Pennington's release badly. Big-ticket free-agent G Alan Faneca will make his Jets debut. OLB Calvin Pace will try to prove his rich contract against a team that went after him hard in free agency. Former Dolphins RB Jesse Chatman is with the Jets now.

Other than that, there won't be much to look at.

The Phinsider R & R

No not rest and relaxation! It’s Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown. Lets set the way back machine for 2005. This is when Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams combined for 1,650 yards, each averaging 4.4 yards per carry. I know the Dolphins had a different Offensive line then but the line that’s forming now is looking pretty good. Ronnie Brown suffered a season-ending knee injury in the seventh game of 2007, Which was very disapointing because at the time he gad 602 yards on 119 carries. That is a 5.1 yard per carry average. He was also the heart of the offense in my opinion. Ricky Williams came back to the Dolphins last year from an 18-month suspension for drug use to play in his first game against Pittsburgh and had his right shoulder stepped on by Pittsburgh's Lawrence Timmons in the second quarter of the 3-0 loss at Heinz Field. (*More on this in a second) Well it’s a fresh start for both players as the Dolphins open training camp next month ‘July’ Ronnie is ahead of schedule according to different sport sites and Ricky’s surgically repaired shoulder only required four months to heal. These two running backs will set the tone for Miamis offense. Lets wish them well.

*Pittsburgh's Lawrence Timmons should had been fined by the league for stepping on Ricky. I remember posting on the Phinsider blog that night.
