One Eastern League team may be headed to Canada
According to this rumor, the Toronto Blue Jays want a Eastern League team in Ottawa. To do this they want to force the Binghamton Mets to move and the New Britain Rock Cats would become the New York Mets affiliate which would leave the Twins in New Hampshire Fisher Cats territory, or not since the rumor has been shot down. But it makes you think since the Twins may have to sign two new affiliation contracts for 2013, in the worst case scenario, given that our contract with the Rochester Red Wings is also due to end.
Historical Arbitration Results from Biz of baseball.com
Basically the historical scorecard (as of 2/9/2012) is Owners: 292; Players: 215.
The Odds don't look good for Alexi Casilla. But as what I said in Jesse's article on the subject, his case is more unique than others due to injuries to himself and the team, and having to play with Nishi.
Baltimore Orioles Trade Jeremy Guthrie to Rockies for a few balls
In the glad they are not us category, the Baltimore Orioles traded Opening day starter Jeremy Guthrie to the Colorado Rockies for a pitcher slightly younger than him and a bullpen arm in his mid 30's. Everybody can read the link for the details, but here is my take. It is simply the type of deal that would be done by Bill Smith and will hurt the Orioles a lot more than it will hurt the Rockies. Basically, what this comes down to is the fact that Baltimore will either lose the team to another city or Peter Angelos will lose the franchise, hopefully to Cal Ripken.
AL Central vs Detroit Tigers, Game 5 Recap: This One's for all the Rubber
The title is basically in reference the the 2011 Fiesta Bowl end game which ended with a field goal. As for this recap, sorry it is so late, but I do have a life so here we go.
Detroit Tigers at AL Central in Minneapolis, Game 4 Recap
In the dictionary, Atone means the following:
1. to make amends or reparation, as for an offense or a crime, or
2. to make up, as for errors or deficiencies.
After the Jump, see which player did exactly that.
Detroit vs AL Central, Game 3 Recap; Defense Matters
Baseball is a team game, but the play of one player can sometimes change everything. That was evident in Game 2 of this series when Delmon Young committed one error and was close to committing two more in a loss to the AL Central. As the result, he was the DH in Saturday's game as the series switched to Target Field in Minneapolis.
The Offseason Assessment of the Twins According to Yahoo's Jeff Passan
According to Jeff Passan, the "Twins Way" has evolved from having good offense and defense to being the bloated, middle age actress or the young starlet who is drugged up and is always late to movie shoots.
AL Central vs Detroit Tigers; Game 2 Recap
When it comes to current events, The AL Central basically wasted Detroit in Game 2 of their series, and it wasn't pretty. As a result, the Indians came out on top as Cleveland outfielders Grady Sizemore and Shin-Soo Choo, combined with Catcher Carlos Santana and 3rd baseman Lonnie Chisenhall, accounted for all but one of the division's 9 runs in the game, and that run was a homer hit in the 8th by Twins DH Joe Mauer.

AL Central at Detroit Tigers, Game 1
I'm Twinkie Town member Jessy S. I am currently doing a fan loving exercise that pits the best of the other four AL Central teams against the Detroit Tigers in a five game series. This was born from a AL Central roster put together by SBNation user kjmick24. I'll post the full rosters and the results of all other games at Twinkie Town. The link takes you to a full game one recap.

AL Central vs Detroit Tigers, Game 1 Recap
In the first of a five game series, the best of the American League Central took on the 2012 Detroit Tigers as Justin Verlander faced off against Minnesota Twins pitcher Carl Pavano. Needless to say, both pitchers were a bit off their game, but the shocker of the night was on how good the Tigers might be this coming season. Full recap after the jump, but before we go there, I want to make two things clear. 1. This is a exercise put together by me using rosters picked by SBNation user kjmick24 and 2. The Tigers are playing the best of the remaining teams in the AL Central with the team being managed by Minnesota Twins Manager Ron Gardenhire.

Minnesota Twins Complete Organizational Chart
From SBNation's MLB Daily Dish comes the complete organizational chart of the Minnesota Twins. It is a work in progress, but will help us when rosterbating during the year.

The biggest deficiency in a lot of head coaches - I'd say more than half the league - is their faulty use of situational football, clock management and the use of timeouts. Believe me, a screw up like that could cost the Cowboys a playoff berth."
The one team that had a worse season than us in 2011
And no, it isn't the Houston Astros. It is the independent Lake County Illinois Fielders, who folded after the 2011 season. They simply had lousy credit, didn't have a place to play within the city of Zion, Illinois, and had to start the season on a 36 day road trip which included two separate trips to Hawaii. This isn't bad for an operation that was co-owned by Kevin Costner, had their front office in a Mall, and had their manager, several players, and a radio announcer quit in mid season because they didn't get paid.
Go Back to Baseball with the Twins
I found this recently while having fun with baseball reference. It is a new project by them and allows the user to search for anything related to the game such as Kirby Puckett game winning home runs and Grand Slams hit by Jason Kubel. It also includes a full database of games played around the league and includes every game played by the Twins dating back to the first ever game for the franchise in New York in 1961.
Mystery Team is set for domination in 2012
Just a fun post from the guys at MLB Trade Rumors. They touch on the recent trend of guys like Albert Pujols stating that a "Mystery Team" has a good contract offer, for leverage in negotiations. The list includes past and current members of the Minnesota Twins.
NFC East Playoff Possibilities with two weeks to go.
Today was a big day in the NFL for the NFC East. On the heels of yesterday's win over Tampa Bay, the Dallas Cowboys are in first place in the division. That was solidified with the New York Giants losing to Washington today, but the Philadelphia Eagles failed to submit to God's plans for our domination by winning. How each team can clench the NFC East after the jump.
This season's Five Close Losses Under Rob Ryan
- at NY Jets: Yes Tony Romo took some of the blame, but RR's defense should have bailed him out.
- VS Detroit: Again we have a failure to bail out Tony Romo.
- at New England: We failed to stop Tom Brady from a 4th quarter comeback.
- at Arizona: We failed to stop the Cardinals in overtime. If we did, Dan Bailey maybe has another shot at the win.
- VS NY Giants: Had 5:52 on the clock and gave up 15 points.
Best Pichers of 2011
- Michael Cuddyer
- Justin Verlander
- Roy Hallday
- Cliff Lee
- Cole Hamels

Angels in on Former Twin LaTroy Hawkins
The deal is supposed to be for one year. With a certain Hunter on the club, maybe the Angels can make it a holy trinity by signing Jason Kubel. However, one would have to imagine the convo between him and Joe Mauer when Kubel is at the plate.
A's Starter Gio Gonzalez might be available
Granted the link is to a post talking about the Miami Marlins and Oakland A's, but the key is outfielders. In this case, Oakland is looking for young outfielders and Trevor Plouffe and/or Ben Revere might be enough for Billy Beane to pull the trigger. Gio Gonzalez is a lefty pitcher with great upside in the fact he is the staff ace and could perform the same or better at Target Field. At the same time, Oakland wants young outfielders and Plouffe and/or Revere would likely be a good addition to their ballclub.
After the trade deadline passed without a deal that many predicted would happen, the Twins, "... thought they had a chance to win, and bullpen was the one thing they thought they really needed,'" but, "'... once that deal fell through, they'll be dealing with a different set of circumstances [this offseason].
Federal Baseball's Patrick Reddington
The Denard Span situation from the Nationals point of view. One comment, isn't the bolded part as silly as this: "And the horse I rode in on!" (from The Simpsons Episode "Itchy, Scratchy, and Marge.)
There have been lots of rumblings there will also be a tax on teams that spend too little on big-league payroll. Looking forward to details
http://twitter.com/#!/jaysonst/status/137661173561692160
Looks like a new tax might be in the works thanks to the new CBA, but you have to wonder if we are going to see teams for sale in the not so near future.
ESPN's Playoff machine is now up and running
It is great fun for picking games and seeing how it affects the playoff picture. My current scenario could likely be how the NFC East turns out. Basically I have the Cowboys going 3-4 the final seven weeks of the season headed to New Orleans as the 6th seed.
AFC Seeds
1. Kansas City
2. Cincinnati
3. Buffalo
4. Tennessee
5. Miami
6. Oakland
NFC
1. Green Bay
2. San Francisco
3. New Orleans
4. Philadelphia
5. Washington
6. Dallas
Now if you excuse me, I will do a scenario where Green Bay and San Francisco don't make the playoffs. (Might be hard to do though.)
Could the Twins go after Scott Boras?
Seriously though, this is a silly question because we all know that Scott Boras is a agent. But, here are two names linked to the Twins as far as Backup Catcher is concerned. They could go cheaply and Scott knows it. They are Jason Varitek, and Ivan Rodriguez. Jesse might have something on this development later today, for now here is the original source.
Wilson Ramos update
According to SBNation's own Baseball Nation, Wilson Ramos is still alive. There is no word on if there is a ransom though. Personally, I think this might be a case of terror against the United States and Ramos is a good target because he plays for a team based in our nation's capital. Hopefully there is much less to this story, this is that speculation on my part, and he remains in good condition.
Fool's Gold revisited: The 2011 Season after eight (or so) games.
I have been planning on revisiting this fanpost since the start of the 2011 season. It was partially the community's idea so consider the following a Snap Judgement Review of the season at the halfway point. For the record, I missed badly on 14 of the 32 teams which is a pretty good record. Again, I tried to put each team in the best possible light.
