Gang Green Nation GGN MOCK DRAFT, THE NEW YORK GIANTS SELECT:

With the 19th pick of the 2011 draft , the New York Giants select, Anthony Castonzo Offensive Tackle 6'7 311,out of Boston College. I apologize that this is a consenus pick, but I believe it is the best pick for the New York Giants. Castonzo is a polished versitile lineman with a nasty streak. In my opiniion, he can play both right and left tackle and can be kicked inside to offensive guard. The Giants Offensive Line is excellent but aging, Kareem Mckensie  RT is 31, Shaun O Hara Center is 33, Rich Seubert LG is 32 and David Diehl LT is 30. The Giants are looking for Castonzo to play LT and kick Diehl inside  to guard. There is also a strong possibility that Castonzo can replace McKensie at RT.

The Giants certainly could have gone with  Martez Wilson OLB/ILB or Akeem Ayers at linebacker. The Giants have a great need for a playmaker at LB, but the third year Clint Sintim( 2nd round pick ) has showed progress at SLB ( although there have benn durabilty issues) and Jeff Goff (5th round pick) a fourth year player was adequate in the middle. The need for talent was there, but I feel Ayers and Wilson are a bit of a reach.

Passed on Ingram at runningback. Good player, but doesn't have that top gear. The Giants run the ball, runningback is important, Bradshaw is a Free Agent, Jacobs seems to be fading. I'm counting on Danny Ware 6'0 234 and I think I can get an RB in the second round ( where have you heard that before). Would also recommend De Angelo Williams RB as a free Agent Aquistion.

Gang Green Nation Elvis Dumervil in Green

Denver , along with a couple of other teams are converting from a 3-4 to a 4-3. Dumervil has had success as an undersized DE in a 4-3, but he had 17 sacks and a career year as an OLB in a 3-4. Denver is rebuilding , has signed Elvis to a lucrative six year contract for 61 million with 41 million guarenteed in 2010. The question is , will Dumervil be a good fit for the Bronco's in their new 4-3. Elvis is in the second year of this contract, but your looking at least 9 million plus incentives a year, by cutting Bryan Thomas and Jason Taylor, you can get six million back, but you still have to come up with an additional 3 million. I think the plan would be to flop Pace over to the Strongside over the TE, and have ED as your Weakside OLB ( 17 sacks). This would be a salary dump by the Broncos, but would you consider Dumervil for the 30th pick in the 2011 draft ?

Gang Green Nation The Browns Clean House

The Cleveland Browns released today NT Shaun Rogers, TE Robert Royal, OT John St. Clair and former Jets DE Kenyon Coleman,OLB David Bowens and ILB Eric Barton. All of these guys are on the wrong side of 30,their productivity no longer was consistant with their salary, The Browns are also changing from the Mangini 3-4 to a new 4-3 defense, Should the Jets sign any of these guys at the vet minimum ?

Gang Green Nation The Other 14 Jet Free Agents

Mike Tannenbaum has a lot of work to do and depending on the timing of the new CBA, he may not have much time to do it. The Jets have four premier Free Agents,  Harris, Cromartie, Holmes and Edwards. There is a question on whether the Jets will be able to afford all of them, and if not , who will be the odd man out. The focus on these four is important because it defines the direction and potential success of the 2011 team. There is however 14 other Free Agents on the Jets Roster that could be a vital part of the Jets future. The Jets will let go of some and resign others.

The questions are " What are the priorities ?, Who  would you Sign ? Who would you may over Market price ?

I'm ranking these players in order of importance. Kindly submit your own rankings.

1. Brodney Pool SS -Late season work makes him a starter in 2011

2. Wayne Hunter OT- Will compete with Ducasse for starting RT

3. Brad Smith WR- TigerCat supporter, depth at WR, Special Teams Ace

4. Robert Turner Center, OG- We haven't had any injuries lately on the OL, vital depth

5. Drew Coleman CB- Playing better under Ryan, Rex can't have too many CB's

6. Shaun Ellis DE- Ranked very low, Shaun makes a lot of money, at the end of a great career

7. Eric Smith Safety- Marginal starter, role player on Defense, outstanding special teams

8. Jame Ihedigbo Safety- Odd man out in the Safety group, if he could only cover

9. Steve Weatherford Punter- Up and Down, but looks promising

10. Kellen Clemens QB- Brunell has done his mentoring, Kellen cheap game manager

11. Lance Laury ILB, SP- Done, Mauga stepped up and can actually be a backup at ILB

12.Nick Folk Kicker- There has to be a better alternative, maybe not.

13 . Trevor Pryce DL- Almost Done

14. Tony Richardson FB - Done, Great man

Gang Green Nation The Rentals

Tannenbuam has gone against the Traditional GM logic of hoarding draft choices and always building for the future.

The future for the the Jets is now , and they have made it to the AFC Championship once again, due in part to three player rentals. The Jets parted with a third and fifth round pick, shipped LB Jason Trusnick and WR Chancy Stuckey to Cleveland for a character flawed, big salaried WR by the name of Braylon Edwards, a cancer in the Browns locker room. Antonio Cromartie was shipped out of San Diego for a premium send round pick in 2011 ( 64th pick !!). WR  Santonio Holmes picked up for a fifth round choice in 2010, would seem to be a deal without extensive risk. But nobody else offered the Steelers anything more, Holmes had to serve a four game suspension, is a free agent at the end of the season.

Mr.T took risk , but it has paid off big with all three players. Rex and his staff worked to integrate these players into productive members of this team, where other coaching staffs have failed. The front office and coaching staff is responsible for a large part of the success of this team. Let's hope the Jets can sign all three of these players for the future.

Gang Green Nation Bye week Doldrums: Edwards vs. Cromartie

The Jets are 5-1, the players are on vacation, everyone seems to be healthy, things are looking good. This coming Sunday we all will monitor AFC East opponents, and get a glimpse of Green Bay slugging it out with Favre and Company on Sunday night. It is only six weeks into the season and it may be inappropriate to talk about next year, especially without a CBA in place, but what do you think if the Jets have to choose between Cromartie and Edwards ? There is a possability of a CAP, and with financial constraints ( Harris still needs to be signed) the Jets may not be able to sign Cro and Edwards. Both are in contract years and both so far have been exceptional seasons.

The next ten games with Revis at full strength and Cromartie playing Lights out should be fun. Cro is such a good matchup against big receivers, and the man has great hands, his deficiency as a tackler has not been evident this year. Certainly, Antonio has made a case for himself to be a number one corner. San Diego's personnel fiascos of late strengthen Cro's resume. Kyle Wilson's star has faded in the last couple of weeks increasing Cro's value in the defense.

Edwards has become the " Go To " receiver on this team, he has made spectacular catches, has made clutch catches, and can we dare say that the drops are behind him. Braylon's blocking has been exceptional, for a running team this blocking ability is a beautiful thing. The Jets are fascinated by Holmes and his big play ability, but Edwards has shown that he is a very good fit for this offense  . Sanchez's success has been in large part this year
can be attributed to Keller and Edwards. The Jets have no depth at WR, but Jerricho Cotchery although having a down year, is still a viable option.

So if you had to choose, Edwards or Cromartie, which one ? and Why?

Gang Green Nation 5 Ways for the Jets to save a million

This is a year without a salary cap, but there are some players who may not make the roster because of a combination of salary and ability. We all have a boss, Mike Tannenbaum has a boss, saving a little salary from an owners perspective is not a bad thing unless it prevents you from winning a Superbowl.

1. Kellen Clemens QB.. Cutting Kellen saves you 1.2, if he is not number two it is hard to justify him being around

2. Drew Coleman CB..  Drew is your fifth CB, saves you another 1.2. Marquice Cole or Brian Jackson are cheaper alternatives. Rex seems to like small corners and Coleman has been a big contributor on Special teams, but the guy gets toasted in coverage.

3. Eric Smith or James IhedigboSafety..The safety position is a little crowded on the Jets. UNDFA Donavan Warren seems to be a threat, offering a different skill set, being more of a cover safety in this pass happy league. James and Eric big contributors on specials and big hitters in the secondary, this IMO would be a huge mistake but James and Eric are the same guy and how much is a reserve safety worth ? Save another 1.2

4. Ben Hartsock TE or Tony Richardson FB.. You wonder how long Tony can go and if a younger player in John Conner the heir apparent can take his place. Hartsock has less of a threat  in Matthew Mulligan as a blocking TE, but Mulligan is closer to a complete TE offering more of a receiving threat. In this offense the Te has to block and Hartsock has a huge edge

5.Shaun Ellis DE... This would be almost criminal, but Shaun is in the last year of contact which pays over 3.3. Ellis was effective last year, is the best pass rushing lineman the Jets have, plays DE, DT and NT, has been a team player, and is an all time Jet. This is the NFL, if a DE is available for 2.3 is younger and perceived better, Shaun gets cut in a heartbeat, no loyalty.

Gang Green Nation What will be the Role of Brad Smith in 2010 ?

The first question is if Brad will see any time as a fourth receiver. we have waited three seasons and we haven't seen much. The big three of Cotcthery , Edwards, and Holmes will draw a lot of coverage, there could be some outstanding opprotunities for Keller and possibly Smith underneath.

The next question is Brads role on special teams. The addition of Wilson and Knight will compete for the returners spot, but Smith is certainly a threat on all specials.

Finally it took until the playoffs but Smith finally threw the ball with devestating results. In Sanchez's second year how much wildcat will there be for the Jets offense
