Suns get "Bear"ied in embarrassing 110-91 loss

The Phoenix Suns' recent play had hinted at some disturbing trends and all of them were painfully on display in a second half where the Suns were dominated 64-37 by a shorthanded Memphis Grizzlies team.

Gamethread: Time to beat a "Bear Down"

The Suns kick off December with a matchup against a Grizzlies team that pretty much nobody would have guessed would have a worse record than Phoenix at this point in the season. Can the Suns take advantage of a seemingly vulnerable opponent?

Preview: Suns look to burn bears

The Phoenix Suns head to Memphis for the first leg of a back-to-back road swing against the ailing Grizzlies hoping to recover from a home loss to the last place Utah Jazz and stay on the good side of .500.

Going Gorilla: bad D, bad L's, good Frye

The topics du jours are bad defense, bad losses and a (not bad) player who may be on his way to a career year. It's hard not to lead with the bad stuff, though, after the Suns just got blowed up by the worst team in the NBA.

Gamethread: Suns @ Heat - Enter the furnace

Join me as the Suns invade the Miami shoreline looking for a signature road win to punctuate what has already been a surprising start that has stultified many pundits predictions of pitiful play.

Preview: Time for Suns to shine in Sunshine state

The Suns have already hung with San Antonio, Oklahoma City and Portland in narrow losses on the road this season and tonight they face another litmus test when the play the Heat in Miami. Can the Suns win a road game against one of the NBA's elite?

Take Five: Q & A with Hot Hot Hoops

In an effort to promote comity between the sister sites of SB Nation the munificent Kevin Kraczkowski of Hot Hot Hoops joins us and answers my five questions about the Miami Heat.

Going Gorilla: The weekly rant - Close or not?

Last week I took a look at how the Suns had fared in close games this season. Consider this part two, as I look further into what constitutes a close game and the correlation between winning % in close games compared to overall winning %.

Going Gorilla: The weekly rant - late game zeroics

The Phoenix Suns had been cheating death through the first two weeks of the NBA season, but last week they were scythed. Speaking of dead things, I exhume some information from the beginning of last season... and find some interesting parallels.

All-Star ballot includes Bledsoe, Dragic and Keef

Alright Suns fans. Time to advocate for your favorite Suns to be included in the 2014 NBA All-Star game hosted by Pierre the Pelican.

Small sample size can lead to premature estimation

Having problems with premature estimation? Check your sample size. The Phoenix Suns are off to a scintillating start, but what kind of bellwether does seven games provide?

Going Gorilla: Suns need that Top 5 pick

The NBA draft is a crapshoot. There are no guarantees in the lottery. After all, nothing in life is certain except for death and taxes, right? Or are all of these adages just myths waiting to be dispelled?

New team, old outcome: Spurs outlast Suns 99-96

The Suns finished up a three game road trip with a familiar result in San Antonio, but the way that the Suns played left me with a very different feeling. I wasn't dejected by a loss, but proud of a scrappy young team that is finding its way.

Suns fricassee Pelicans in 104-98 win

Phoenix pulled the classic bait and switch on New Orleans by lulling them to sleep in the first half before brutalizing them with a 28-9 run to end the third quarter. Very clever Suns. Poor Pierre the Pelican never saw it coming...

Gamethread: Pelican tastes like chicken

The Suns and smoking hot new addition Eric Bledsoe are in New Orleans tonight to battle against Anthony Davis and the Pelicans. Watch the game to see the antics of Pierre the Pelican and join in the gamethread to offer your critique.

Going Gorilla: The weekly rant

In this inceptive episode I discuss Suns' security policies, Gorilla (chicken) wings and punctuality, and a certain player for Phoenix who is so scalding he might as well be walking on the Sun.

Preview: First ever Suns/Pelicans battle!

The Suns hope to bring the same energy from their first three contests into New Orleans tonight for a melee against the newly dubbed Pelicans. Can the Suns play the role of cormorants and greedily snatch up a win?

Happy Halloween! BSotS Meetup Tomorrow!

Final reminder everyone. The inaugural Brightside meetup is this Friday, November 1st at the Downtown Majerle's in Phoenix at 24 N. 2nd St. at 5:30 pm before the Utah Jazz game starts at 7:00. If you want to show up early I will be there around 4:45.

Lottery Limbo: How low can the Suns go?

As the NBA season tips off some teams are preparing for runs to the playoffs. The Suns will be in a different race. The race for lottery seeding. So exactly how does Phoenix rank among the teams that are expected to struggle this season?

Tanking, Rebuilding, Hope and the Great Pumpkin

The Suns are at a watershed point. It's almost Halloween. Obviously (the Phoenix Suns) Charlie Brown and (tanking/rebuilding/hope) the Great Pumpkin are deliciously apropos.

Reminder: Majerle's Meetup Friday, November 1st

Just a reminder to everyone that the Bright Side of the Sun community meetup will be next Friday, November 1st at 5:30 at Majerle's Sports Grill in downtown Phoenix prior to the Suns game against the Utah Jazz.

Suns finish preseason on mile high note, win 98-79

The Suns played three quarters of sloppy, sluggish preseason basketball and 12 minutes of midseason masterpiece. A 38-14 fourth quarter allowed them to easily dispatch the Nuggets and finish the preseason with a record of 5-2.

Gamethread: Phoenix Suns @ Denver Nuggets

Time for the last preseason tilt. This might be your last chance to see fringe NBA players such as (Kendall Marshall) Dionte Christmas, James Nunnally and Ish Smith in Suns uniforms.

Game Preview: Suns @ Nuggets in preseason finale

The best thing about the last preseason game is that it's the last preseason game. The sometimes clumsy and listless play in these preseason skirmishes will likely only be matched by an upcoming regular season contest between the Suns and Sixers...

Brightside Bling - Get your t-shirts!

Time for team pride. Any fan of the Suns should have multiple at least one team t-shirt. Well, it's time for members of Bright Side of the Sun to get geared up and represent the site the way you represent the Suns

NBA Rank 2012 vs. 2013 - Garbage in, garbage out

Last season many pundits had the Suns right at the bottom of the Western Conference. Many pundits were right. Likewise, the NBA Rank glitterati didn't issue stellar individual marks to the Suns' cast of misfits. How did this year's version score?

BSotS Community Meetup!

Here's a chance to put some faces to names, Brightsiders. Or faces to usernames. The event is at Majerle's in downtown Phoenix before the Utah Jazz game Friday, November 1st @ 5:30. I strongly encourage locals to attend... because you guys rule.

Christmas ready to make his presents felt

One day I'll outgrow shameless plays on people's names (or not). In the interim please peruse Dionte's thoughts about being in training camp, GM Ryan McDonough and the team's most improved player (hint: it's Marcus Morris).

NBA training camp time! Highlights and reminders

It's that time of year again. A time that all obsessive NBA fans revel in. Training camp time. A (finally) return to real, legitimate (sort of) basketball activities. I highlight five team's camps and give a refresher on rosters for all 30.

Bringing back Jeff Hornacek (twice)

I depart from conventional wisdom in terms of which former Suns player could turn this franchise around... and have decided to bring back Jeff Hornacek. Again.
