The league's latest proposal has been rejected but there is a very interesting item that the league is trying to implement as a part of the new CBA...The league has proposed a provision that would allow the following:

"teams would be allowed to shed one contract outright before next season through a one-time amnesty provision that wipes that contract off a team's books -- even though the player must still be paid."

This is a pretty big deal because it will allow many more teams (including the Warriors) to get involved in Free Agency this Summer. I'm assuming that if this provision is approved by the Player's Union and negotiated into the new CBA then Andris Biedrins' contract might be the one that gets wiped off the books, although using the rule to wipe out Lee's contract may in fact be wiser. Would love to hear some thoughts on this possible new rule and how the Warriors should use it.

With the Pacers upsetting the Thunder and the Tyreke Evansless Kings beating the Clippers today, I am inspired to start the official Golden State Warriors 2010 Top 3 Lotto Pick watch thread. There are only 13 games to go and with these two great wins by the Pacers and Kings it is looking more likely by the day that the Warriors are going to finish with a shot at a top 3 pick. In my opinion the team that the Warriors are most likely to surpass over the final stretch is the Washington Wizards. They are playing absolutely terrible basketball and will definitely take a loss tonight against the Lakers on the road (wouldn't matter if there were at home either). I have listed the current standings below in position of nba draft lottery slot rank from 1-9 because they are the only teams in reach of the Warriors.

1. NJ Nets : 7-62 Final Stretch Outlook: The Nets are guaranteed to finish with the best chance at John Wall. The only question is whether or not they will make NBA history for all time worst win/loss record in a season.

2. Minn: 14-56 Final Stretch Outlook: It was only a few weeks ago that it looked as if the Warriors could have possibly out tanked the TWolves and moved up to the 2nd slot for the NBA draft lottery. Unfortunately, the Twolves are currently losers of 12 straight and counting and look to have a stranglehold on the Evan Turner slot as they are 5.5 games worst than the Warriors. This lead is too much to overcome with only 13 games remaining in the season.

3. Dubs: 19-50 Final Stretch Outlook: Our Love em and hate em dubs are sitting in the 3rd slot holding a three game lead over the woeful Warriors East for the third pick in the draft. The dubs, however, are 4 games worst than the Wiz in the loss column. Looking at the final 13 games on the schedule, I see only three games that are arguably games that the Warriors should and will win: Home vs the Knicks on April 2nd, away vs the Wiz on April 6, and away vs the Twolves on April 7. The Twolves game may not be a gimme, however, because it is the second game of a back to back roadie. There are three other winnable games: 2 away against the Clippers and 1 away against Toronto but the dubs have to be considered underdogs in those games. Other opponants in the final 13 game stretch include: Phoenix, Dallas, Utah, @Utah, OKC, @ Portland. I'm predicting that the Dubs win two of three against the bottom feeders mentioned earlier and somehow find a way to win one or two games to finish 4-9 or 3-10 to end the season. That leaves the final record at 22-60/23-59. The Warriors always find a way though to beat better teams when they aren't supposed to. It isn't too far off to think they will win 2 or 3 against the bottom feeders, 2 of 3 out of the two Clips Games/Toronto game, and 1 or 2 from the Pheonix/Dallas/Utah/Portland/OKC conglomerate. This is potentially 6-7 wins in a best case (worst case in the lottery sense) scenario, leaving the dubs at 25-26 wins. I predict, however, that Nellie falls short, the Warriors go 4-9 to end 23-59, and the Dubs get out tanked by the Wizards (who go 1-14 to end the season) and drop to the 4th spot in the lottery ball standings

4. Wiz: 21-46 Final Stretch Outlook: As noted earlier, the Wiz are the most likely team that could potentially surpass the Dubs to end the season. They have an auto loss tonight against the Lakers that will run their losing streak to a Minnesota Timberwolves like 11 straight. Looking at their schedule to close the season, I see the Wiz favorites to win one game, April 4 vs NJ. The April 6 game will have huge lottery implications because the Wiz will face off against the Dubs at home. I really hope the Warriors find a way to lose this game because the Wiz could potentially finish their final 15 games of the season at 1-14. The most likely wins that the Wiz could possibly steal are against Indiana as they play the Pacers twice in their final 15 and New York. Other opponants the Wiz will face include the Bobcats (twice), Orlando, Boston, Atlanta, Houston, New Orleans, Utah, Chicago, and tonight against the Lakers. The Wiz could very well end the season 0-15 or 1-14. I believe the Wiz will have to go at least 3-12 over the final 15 if the Warriors have any hope of staying at the third slot. The problem is, I don't see 3 wins anywhere on the Wiz' schedule. This is very alarming and quite possibly means that the inevitable passing of the Wizards is about to happen.

5. Detroit: 23-46 Final Stretch Outlook: Currently, the Dubs are 4 games worst than the Pistons and look to be firmly in control of not being out tanked. Looking at the Pistons schedule, I see 4 very winnable games for Detroit to close out the season: Tomorrow when they host indiana, 3/26 @ New Jersey, 4/6 @ Philly, and their last game of the season @ Minnesota. I envision that the Warriors will end the season somewhere between 22-25 wins. This means that the Pistons only need 2-3 wins over their final 13 for the Dubs to remain worst than them. Splitting 2 of 4 against the latter competition will do the trick. I believe Detroit will find at least one win against the other opponants remaining on their schedule: Chicago, Toronto, Miami (twice), Atlanta, Charlotte, Phoenix. Stealing a game vs Chitown, Toronto, Charlotte, or Miami is very possible so I do not predict Detroit surpassing us.

6/7/8. Sacramento, Indiana, Philadelphia: 24-46 Final Stretch Outlook: After today's wins by Sac and Indi there is a 3 way tie at the 6-8 spot. Those wins were huge today as it came against teams that I had marked as likeley losses (Indi vs OKC and Sac without Evans @ LAC). My 22-25 win Dubs prediction leaves these three teams needing 1-2 wins in order for the Warriors to remain safe. I will discuss Sac's outlook first.

Sacramento - Analyzing their season ending schedule, I see three very winnable games for Sac and then a murder's row of opponents to finish out the season where a win will be hard to come by (unless teams shut it down for the playoffs). Sac should be able to find a win or two on their upcoming road trip against New Jersey, Indiana, and Minnesota. They also have a good chance of stealing another win from the Clips at home in April. Other than those 4 games, Sac looks destined to end the season with a variety of losses. They play Boston, Cleveland, Portland, Lakers, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston and Memphis. I will only be worried if the Warriors start to win some games against teams they shouldn't and reel off an above .500 record to end the season. If the Dubs finish 7-6 instead of my projected 3-10 or 4-9, Sac would have to win 2 of 3 games against Ind/min/nj on their road trip and either beat the clips at home or steal a game from the murder's row in order for the Warriors to stay worst than the Kings. Not likely, but anything is possible.

Indiana - Today's win against OKC was enormous for our lottery hopes. For awhile, it looked as if Indiana was a team that would tank further than the Dubs. Luckily for us, Indi has a very soft schedule to end the season and 2+ wins is very likeley. They play Sac, Detroit, Washington (twice), Knicks, and New Jersey. There will be the auto losses of Cleveland, Atlanta, Orlando, Houston, Miami and Utah mixed in. Again, we most likeley need 1-2 wins from Indiana and I feel like Indiana will definitely finish at the minimum 3-9 to finish the season.

Philly - We need 1-2 wins from Philly to end the season. Their record is not quite as easy as Indi and I worry about the sixers more than the Pacers. Other than Detroit, every remaining opponant of the Sixers has a winning record or is playoff bound. Their final stretch includes Orlando twice, Milwuakee twice, Miami twice, Atlanta, OKC, Memphis, Charlotte, Toronto, and Detroit. Do we have 1-2 wins here? The sixers are reeling at 2-8 in their last 10. They should be underdogs every game they play from here on out except at home against Detroit. I feel like the best chance for the Sixers to pick up their 2 wins are against Detroit and Toronto at home. Charlotte, Miami, and OKC are in dog fights and every game counts. Memphis looks to be on the outside looking in so a win against them may be plausible if they drop further away from the 8 spot. In the end, I feel like Philly finds a way to finish at least 2-10 to end the season but I wouldn't be shocked to see them with only 25 wins to end the year.

9. Clippers: 26-44 Final stretch outlook: This will be the last team I will be including for the draft lottery watch. The Clippers most likley have more wins right now than the Warriors will have to end the year. I included them only in the unlikeley event the Warriors end the season 7-6 or better because the Clippers have a very tough final stretch and may finish with only 1 or a couple more wins. They get the Dubs twice, Sac, and the Knicks. They should find at least one win here and that will most likeley be way more than enough to keep the Clips away. Their other opponants to end the season are Dallas, Houston, Milwuakee, Denver, Dallas, Lakers, Portland, Houston, and Toronto. I see 3-5 more wins for the Clips to end the season putting them well ahead of the Warriors.

Final Thoughts: I will try to update this as the season winds to a close. I hope you can rec this up to the top so we can have some commentary as the season winds down. As you can see, the Warriors are not going to catch the Wolves but are threatened to be out tanked by a few other teams. I think it is clear that the Wizards are threats to catch us and we need to be rooting hard for Wizard victories. The Warriors @ Wizards game coming up can have huge implications. A warriors win would bring the Wizards within two games! It is very very easy to envision the Wiz finishing 2 games or more worst than us over their final 15 games and our 13 games. If the Warriors finish 5-8, there is no way they hold onto the 3 seed. It is extremely hard to find one win let alone three wins remaining on the Wiz's schedule. We got to pray for a 3-10 finish and a couple wizard upsets in order to keep our lottery balls.

I was doing some research to gain a little perspective on one of our young Warriors to see how his production in limited minutes compares to some of the greats around the league. I thought that this would make for a fun guessing game as well as serve as a nice hiatus from all the proposed Monta trades that have littered the fan posts the past couple weeks. Also, it might open some eyes.

So this is how it works; I am going to post the per 36 minute stats of 6 different players around the league. I want you to try and guess who they are. One of our young warriors will be mixed into the six. Have fun and good luck guessing.

Before we unravel who these mystery players are lets take a look at a few things that jump out at us. Obviously, Player number 5 is having a RIDICULOUS season and is putting up the best numbers of the group. Looking at his career numbers, it is safe to say that player number 5 is putting up a career season. It also happens to be a contract year for player number 5. Player number 5's career line is around 21 pts, 9+ rebs.

The second thing that jumps out is that Bonus Player is definitely in a class all by himself when compared to the group. Unfortunately, that class is a couple tiers below that of the other mystery players. Unfortunately for us GSOMers, Bonus Player happens to be a starter on our favorite team.

TEASER ALERT: If you havn't finished your Guessing State of Mind guessing game do not read any further as I will reveal the mystery players.

Player number 1 = Tim Duncan

Player number 2 = Amare Stoudemire

Player number 3 = Kevin Garnett

Player number 4 = Anthony Randolph

Player number 5 = Chris Bosh

Player number 6 = Dwight Howard

Bonus Player = Mikki Moore

Other than a fun guessing game, this post was made to exhibit the frustration of many Warrior fans, including myself. Anthony Randolph's bench role and lack of minutes are alarming. The numbers state that the Warriors have a player somewhere between Kevin Garnett and Dwight Howard (statistic wise) coming off the bench in favor of Bonus Player Mikkie Moore. It is clear, however, that Randolph is the poorest shooter from the field of the bunch and needs to work on upping his fg percent a good 7-8 points. It is also clear that Anthony Randolph is in a class of his own when it comes to hitting his free throws when compared to other bigs. He is also amongst the elite when it comes to rebounding.

Enough of my basic analysis, I'm sure you will all have some input worth listening to.

Very Troubling Report - Monta To Miss Entire Season/Contract Voided?

I came across this report reading Geoff Lepper's blog 48minutes.net (a must read blog for warrior fans). He points to a report from hoopsworld.com claiming that Monta Ellis may miss the entire season. Bill Ingram from Hoopsworld goes on to state that if Ellis were to miss the season, the Warriors would consider voiding his contract all together. Does anyone have any input on this or know how much truth this rumor carries? Pree, are you around to give us some insight on what you are hearing? This is a disaster if true.

Here's an excerpt from Ingram's report.

"In the wake of the news that the Golden State Warriors have suspended Monta Ellis for the moped accident that violated his NBA contract and put the guard out of actions for months, we now have reports coming out that suggest the injury might cause Ellis to miss the entire season. Further, if that is the case, the Warriors will consider negating Ellis' brand new contract altogther, which is their right under the Collective Bargaining Agreement."

Goodbye To The Most Memorable Warrior Team of My Lifetime

I'm 24 years old and have been following the Warriors ever since I can remember. I am a die hard of the die hard and am sitting here in complete shock today as news trickles down about the departure of Baron Davis. I rarely write/post on here but I feel compelled to write some thoughts down about Baron Davis as his Golden State career comes to an end.

Baron was the heart, soul, and savior of the Golden State Warriors. He was so beloved and captivated everyone with his passion on and off the court. He made us all believe and took our doormat laughing stock of a franchise to the most exciting, hi-octane machine in the league. He not only captivated Northern Californians, but he captured the entire nation with the Dallas series. Everyone in the country, except Dallas fans, had the Warriors in a special place in their heart in the 07 playoffs and we were America's team for that brief moment in time. Baron Davis' electric and infectious personality/determination on the court were so awe inspiring that we actually became a hot trend and sports darling. Snoop Dogg/Jessica Alba/Owen Wilson? Who would have thought that it would ever have been cool to become a Warriors fan?

I still remember the day I was watching ESPN hotlist and saw a breaking news update from Marc Stein as he reported that the Warriors and Hornets had reached a deal that would send Diddy to the Dubs for Dale Davis/Speedy Claxton. I knew back then how big of a deal it was to bring in Baron Davis and it was the first day that I really started Believing. It is only fitting that Marc Stein broke the story today of Baron's departure and as I sit here writing this, I feel like this wasn't the way it was supposed to be. This breakup happened too suddenly/quickly and has made me lose faith in all the work Mulson has done in bringing this squad back to respectability.

I will never know how good we could have actually been. I feel like our team was extremely starcrossed and our timing was destined for failure. I will always wonder what could have been if we had gotten that star power forward. I feel like Mully/Nelson were so close to putting together the finall pieces and were one good luck deal away from being real title contenders. Now everything seems to have been destroyed and the divine plan has crumbled. How can Nelly come back if we are in rebuilding mode? He wouldn't let Wright/Belinelli see the floor last year and wants to win before he retires. This opt out has singlehandedly stuck a dagger in our plan.

Baron got out of dodge quickly. There must have been more to the benching at the Phoenix game that Nelly didn't divulge to the fans. This can't be all about more years. As a fan, I feel like I deserve to know what happened, but realistically realize that I may never know the answers as we all know how good Nelson is at being elusive and deceptive with the media.

I feel like the Warriors are not prepared to deal with this bold statement by Baron. They never thought he would walk and are now stunned that the heart and soul has left, taking the hopes of Bay Area basketball with him. Not only did he walk, but he walked to a division rival where we will have the honor of seeing him 4 times a year and he will dominate us just like he does the Hornets and any other team that gives him reason to have a chip on his shoulder. Baron has his star power forward now. He has his weapons. We know how dangerous he can be, but with a full arsenal, he's going to be flat out scary.

I haven't let this all digest and sink in yet. I want more answers and am waiting to see what type of moves we make in the coming weeks. I know that Mully must be scrambling right now. He was scheduled to be a guest on the Razor and Mr. T today but canceled. Today marks the end of an era, but how can it be a better beginning?

"History: Ellis High-School Stats ! (pretty amazing)". How many Gsomers are open to trading Monta? Personally, I am a "Hell No! KG Is Nice but It's Monta!" guy myself, but I am sure that there will be a variety of responses. Come out to the polls and let your voice be heard. Vote or Die!!

Merging this diary and jayknocc's, since both insist on making an issue out of this:

During my daily check of hoopshype I came across an article that lists the Warriors as one of seven teams with interest in Juan Carlos Navarro. The article is in Spanish so if anyone can translate that would be very much appreciated. I'm having an issue with the link but if you go to hoopshype and scroll down a little bit you will see the link. Pree, have you heard of anything regarding JCN?

Thoughts of KG from a Garnett addict

First off, let me just say that I love KG. My Goldenstateofmind screenname is 50% Kevin Garnett dedicated and thoughts of him consume my day a little too much for a 23 year old straight male. I am taking summer school right now so I have a class that goes on for a little over 2 hours. We get a 10 minute break after the first hour. So what do I do during this break? Run to the computer lab to check gsom and espn to see if KG is a Warrior. When I wake up in the morning with smelly morning breath and a full bladder waiting to be relieved, I don't run to the bathroom. I grab my lap top and check gsom and espn to see if Mully/Nelly and Mchale were up late hashing out a KG deal. I can't listen to music in my car anymore. It's KNBR 24/7. Fitz, Brooks, Ralph and Tom all the time. I sit through Sabercat football updates/SF Giant banter (I'm an A's fan) hoping to hear anything Garnett related. I check hoopshype, realgm, espn message boards, basketballboards.net, truehoop,cbssportsline.com, cnnsi.com, foxsports.com, yahoo sports, tim kawakami blogs at the merc, hotcocoa, sfgate.com,marcus thompson III blogs, goldenstateofmind, and kevingarnett.com for anything Big Ticket/Warrior related. The only movies I watch lately are KG highlight videos on youtube. I have visions of a Garnett The City throwback and believe it will be the most aesthetically pleasing jersey of all time, and everytime I close my eyes, I see Kevin Garnett fairies dancing in my head. My man love for KG is terror alert red. Despite all of this, I have reached a point where giving up Monta Ellis for KG is too much.

Stop for a second and picture Monta Ellis at 26 years old. The kid will probably be 25-30 lbs heavier full of muscle. He will be insaneley quick, more developed with his ball handling, and posterizing Leandro Barbosa's cousins. Monta as a vet is flat out scary. He is already schooling seasoned pros and he's only 2 years out of high school. Monta will be holding clinics and putting up 25-30 ppg easy.

After losing Gilbert Arenas, I fell into a severe NBA/Warrior depression. I had been clinically warrior depressed from the past decade but the Gilbert loss took me to a dark place. Luckily I got some prozac in the form of Baron Davis and am feeling perky about the club these days, but I don't think I can fathom seeing Monta dominate for the next 15 years in exchange for 3-4 years of KG and a possible title. I was talking to my friend about Monta and KG and we came up with an analogy that suits the situation.

Monta Ellis is the young, extremeley hot but baby faced girl that wants a relationship with you and can see herself marrying you. You are all she knows and she is madly in love with you. She is a little underdeveloped but you know that in time, she will go from young adult to majestic woman. She knows how to cook, will do your laundry, and your mom loves her. She doesn't look at other guys and will be by your side through thick and thin. You know you can cheat on her but she will come back because she loves you. Then you got KG.

KG is your really really hot Milf that lives next door. She was a former Miss Montana and posed for playboy. She has a husband but every guy knows that she would cheat on him for pure thrill and experience. She won't get with any guy though. She posed for Playboy and has her standards. The other day you were out washing your car and she was watering her garden. You caught her giving you those ** me eyes and know that you have a shot and can't believe it. You know that you can have fun with this Milf. She has a husband already and doesn't want to leave her situation, but she wouldn't mind messing around with a new, younger guy that might be able to take her to the mountain top for a little bit. You know that bagging this broad would make you the talk of the town and elevate your game with women to new plateaus. How can you resist?
