I am an enthusiastic fan of the Tennessee Titans who lives in Austin, Texas. The Titans are the only pro football team that I follow and support. Though I am a native Texan and a former Dallas Cowboys fan from way back in the Tom Landry days, I can't stand today's Cowboys team and the Houston Texans have just never gotten off the ground.

I started following the Titans during the 2006 season when Vince Young was a rookie. Like just about every good Longhorn, I had also been a huge fan of Vince during his college career at the University of Texas. I am a UT Austin graduate, and I attended every UT home game that Vince started during both the 2004 and 2005 seasons. I love watching Vince play, and when I first started following the Titans games in 2006, at first it was really just to watch Vince.

After a while, though, I really started to enjoy and appreciate the Titan's team - completely independent of whether Vince does or does not play for them. I really like their tough brand of back-to-basics football, and I have a lot of respect for Coach Fisher. I think he is one of the best in the League. The team is also filled with a number of people and personalities who I respect a lot more than those in most NFL teams. It's a hard-nosed, hard-fighting group that still has a sense of humor - for the most part.

I still wish Vince well, and I hope he does make a comeback in the NFL. I would love to watch him play his brand of ball again. However, I am realistic enough to know that if Vince does get another chance to start in the NFL, it will probably be with some other team and not the Titans. He seems to have burned his bridges with the fans and coaches in Nashville.

But, I am fully prepared for a future where I will be primarily a Titans fan but also following some other team where Vince is playing.

Please trade Vince!!

Look, I am a huge fan of BOTH the Titans AND VY, but I don’t think those two things necessarily have to go together.    It sure looks to me like Vince’s career with the Titans is done, and I think it would be best for both the Titan’s next season and for Vince’s career, if he were traded to another team.

And, I don’t think that reflects badly on either one of them.  I am a University of Texas Ex still living here in Austin.  I attended every home game Vince started as a Longhorn, and I have watched every Titan game I could manage to find at a sports bar in Austin for the last three years.  I love watching the Titans play, with or without Vince.  But, I am also very confident Vince can play ball at a high level in the NFL.  I just don’t think his style of play and particular set of strengths are a good fit at all with the type of offense Fisher and the Titans run.

The Titans did the right thing bringing Kerry back for two more years.  Unlike Vince, he is an excellent fit with the team’s style of offense, and his 2008 performance more than earned him the permanent starting job, the team’s confidence, and maybe even his $12M contract for the next two years.  Unless Kerry falls off his tractor and breaks a leg, Vince is going to be riding the bench until he is traded or cut, anyway.  So, why not do it now?

OK, OK, I have been reading MCM long enough to know what you are all going to say.  Vince is not going to get traded now because: 1) the structure of his contract and the cap makes it impractical, 2) Bud Adams still supports him, and 3) there may not be any real market for him.  I just hate to see a really talented guy spend another year or two on the bench.  What a waste!!  (Plus, selfishly, I love to watch him play.)

So, I am just asking, hypothetically, if there were some way to make it happen, don’t you all think that both the Titans and Vince would be better off if he were traded?
