If this is how it works, Rex Ryan must be the most sexually active coach in the NFL with the number of F bombs he's said

My Lack of Character Mock Draft

I said I wasn’t going to put together a mock draft until after free agency was over……I lied….chalk it up to poor character on my part. I’m sure my draft stock has dropped a few rounds on Poz’s big board and Sgt Major Thor has taken me completely off his board. Lucky for me, sireric doesn’t give a sh!t and I may have actually jumped up into his top ten. Sireric’s consistent desire for low character dbags and high risk pot smokers with incredible physical talent was the inspiration for this draft…..that and the fact that after all these years, he has never given one of my mocks an “A”. I usually provide links with my mocks, but screw you guys….do your own damn research if you don’t believe me. So without further delay……hahhhahahaha lied again….don’t forget to vote in the poll or I will come to your house, pee in your flower bed, and leave a flaming bag of dog poop on your front porch.

Rd 1 – LB - Alec Ogletree – 6’2”, 242lbs. Ogletree has had multiple off-the-field issues over his career. He was suspended the first game of his freshman season after being arrested for stealing a track athlete's motorcycle helmet. Ogletree was suspended for the first four games of the 2012 season for reportedly failing drug tests. Just weeks before the combine, Ogletree was arrested for speeding, illegal lane change (I know....kids these days), and DUI (guess that explains the illegal lane changing). The kicker is he is the perfect OLB/ILB for Pettine’s defense and a top ten pick without the character issues.

Rd 2 – QB - Tyler Bray – 6’6”, 232lbs. Bray has one hell of an arm, as evidence of the vandalized cars he pelted with beer bottles and golf balls. And if that wasn’t enough, he may have been trying to kill or at least drowned some people with his jet ski. I really don’t mind him yelling at his coaches on the sidelines during games….they deserved it…stupid know it all coaches. Then, at the combine he got so nervous at the podium, he early peed his pants. But don’t worry Bills fans, Buddy is on the case. “Tyler”, I says to him, “You don’t throw half empty beer bottles at da cars….ya drink em and shoot dim empties with your shotgun”. I’m sure Buddy got through to him.

Rd 3 – WR - Da’Rick Rodgers – 6’2”, 217lbs. Rodgers was kicked off of Tennessee's football team just before the 2012 season. Rogers said afterwards it was for testing positive for smoking pot. Give the kids a break....his parents named him Da'Rick "Dick" Rodgers. Rodgers has prototypical size and toughness (mostly from getting his butt kicked on the playground). He has good hands and speed....think Julio Jones smoking a joint. His taste for the wacky weed and a deep WR draft will push him down to the 3rd round.

Rd 4 – CB – Tyrann Mathieu - 5’9”, 186lbs. The Honey Badger…..he don’t give a sh!t. But he sure knows how to smoke it. He was kicked out of LSU for failing at least 3 drug test. But he went to the same rehab as Lindsey Lohan and is now just fine. Besides, how can Nix not draft a guy who shares his nickname. Doesn’t hurt that he has sick ball skills. Who cares if he is short....he “high points” a ball better than any other DB in this draft.

Rd 5 – ILB – Rolando McClain – Buddy trades our 5th round pick for McClain. What do you have to do for the Raiders to suspend you???? Marrone first words…..”Don’t even think about Yippie-Ki-Yaying me Mother@#$%#$”.

Rd 6 – Armonty Bryant – DE – 6’4”, 263lbs – This dude didn’t just use drug….he sold them. I wonder if he got his degree in business???? Explosive, powerful, but technically raw, Bryant could have been a 2nd round pick if he played in a big time program. He would probably go undrafted but Buddy heard the Cowboys want him (no, I’m not kidding), so Buddy takes him in the 6th.

FA signing – Tim Tebow. Tebow will get all these slackers and pot heads on the straight and narrow….plus we could use a backup/wildcat QB/punt protector after we cut Fitz and Smith. SuperBowl!!!!!

Seems like a lot of Rumblers are watching this game. So, I thought it might be a good idea to keep all the comments on this game under one roof. Enjoy.

Have to get to 75 words. QB Mike Glennon vs Rodgers....yes, he is related to Aaron Rodgers. I am hoping to see a good performance from Glennon especially after being unimpressed with Geno Smith during his Bowl game. If Glennon doesn't impress, we could see a ton of QBs available in round 2 on draft day.

With the Bills likely done signing players in free agency, I figured it was time to put together a mock draft. Maybe it is just me, but scouting reports seem like they are tougher to come by. I ended up using the following sites to put my mock together.

http://www.mockingthedraft.com/pages/2010-nfl-draft-rankings-by-position

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings

http://www.fftoolbox.com/nfl_draft/2012/top-nfl-prospects-for-2012.cfm

For the first time in over ten years, the Bills have a chance to be a playoff team. Will Buddy be able to add the final pieces of the puzzle in the draft come April? While I would not be opposed to the Bills taking a QB early, I don’t think it will happen this year. The Mario Williams signing puts the Bills in win now mode, and they have hitched their wagon to Fitz. We have to hope that the reappearance of Bad Fitz was the result of injury. Even a fully healthy Fitz needs some help, and he gets it this year starting in the first round. It could be in the form of a WR, but I think Buddy sees more good depth at WR than at OT. More importantly, after Hairston at LT ….. we got nobody.

1. (10) – OT – Jonathan Martin - 6'5 - 312 lbs

If Martin had taken one more year to clean up his technique, he would most likely be the top OT in next year’s draft. I think he has more upside than Kalil and Reiff. Martin is a smart football player, a natural bender, plays with a mean streak, has a good work ethic, and has no know character issues. Some people might call this a reach, but I’m not willing to pass on a franchise LT so someone else can take him at the 15-20 range and have Mel Kiper say what a deal they got.

2. (42) – OLB – Zack Brown - 6'1 - 244 lbs

We are set in the middle with Sheppard, but Barnett and Morrison are headed to the wrong side of 30 and I’m not sure either of them can run with Gronk…..Brown can. Brown has elite speed and ability to change direction. I see him playing right away on passing downs. Add to that the impact Brown can have on special teams, and Brown will make a significant impact on the field immediately. If I was Morrison, I would be watching my back.

3. (74) – WR - Brian Quick - 6'4 - 220 lbs

The Bills want WRs who are open even when they are covered….translation….big, tall, and strong guys with good hands. Quick is already a good route runner and should push to replace Easley as the number 2 WR early this season.

4. (105) – CB – Jamell Fleming - 5'11 - 206 lbs

Fleming doesn’t have elite speed, but he reacts quickly, is strong enough to battle with big WRs and TEs, and is good against the run. Fleming should win the slot CB job early in the season, and lock down a starting CB spot by the end of the year.

(124) – DE - Malik Jackson - 6'5 - 284 lbs

The Bills need an understudy for Super Mario. Jackson is raw, but has the potential to develop into a nice pass rusher. He has good speed and quickness, long arms, and a strong upper body. He needs to work on his lower body strength and his technique.

5. (137) – TE – Deangelo Peterson- 6'3 - 243 lbs

Peterson is a converted WR. He has good hands and speed, but he needs to learn the TE position. Blocking isn’t his strength.

(139) – WR – Marvin McNutt - 6'3 - 216

Another big, strong WR, who I think could put on 20 lbs and be a hell of a TE. McNutt is not a burner, but is fast once he gets up to speed. NcNutt has huge hands and good body control. He is fearless going over the middle and will challenge for the ball in the air.

6. (169) – QB – Austin Davis - 6'2 - 219 lbs

Davis caught my eye at the combine. I kept mistaking him for Cousins….yes, in a good way. I think he is a sleeper. Davis is a dual threat QB, a natural leader, has a smooth, quick release, and throws with good anticipation. Knocks on him include his height…..6’2” is the new 5’11” I guess.... average arm strength, and there are questions about his ability to read the defense. I think he is a perfect understudy for Fitz.

7. (199) – FB – Cody Johnson - 5'11 - 252

Time to replace Corey McIntyre. I love this guy and think his nickname should be Big Johnson because he knows how to lay the wood. A thick bodied physical runner who moves the pile. Johnson seeks out contact and would be a fantastic lead blocker for Freddie and CJ.

Tell me what you guy’s think…..hahahaahha….like I could stop you :-) Don’t forget to vote in the poll.

The Mods Pick'em....Does Anyone Care?

I have always like the weekly Mods Pick'em, and I appreciate WABillsfan taking the time and effort to put it together every week. When it first started, the Mods Pick'em was much more popular and generated a lot more comments. The comments this year have been few and far between, even by the Mods making the picks. The lack of interest has made me wonder if it is worth keeping this series going. I have a few ideas on how to make it more interesting. Or, maybe you would rather just kill it altogether? A poll to gauge reader opinion is after the jump.

I think one of the biggest reasons we don't see many comments is that many of our top Mods are missing from this series.....yes, Brian, Matt, Der Jaeger, sireric....I'm talking to you guys. I know you are busy and work hard to give us tons of great content. But given your knowledge of the teams in NFL, would it really take you more than 10-15 minutes to make these picks? Personally, I would rather you cut one article a week and participate in the Mods Pick'em. I think we have the room to add you guys, but if the total number of Mods in this series is an issue, I would be willing to give my spot to one of you and continue to post my picks in the comments section.

Next idea. I'm guessing that just listing who picked which teams isn't very interesting to the majority of our readers. And, it doesn't lead to much debate or discussion. I suggest requiring the Mods to include with their picks a minimum of three reason per game why they picked the team they did. That would give us something to debate and would be much more interesting, IMHO.

Finally, how about we add elimination picks to this series? For those of you who don't know how that works. Each week, you pick one team as your lock to win. You can only use a team once. If your pick loses, you are eliminated. Last man standing wins, and then we start over.

So what do you think? Vote in the poll and leave your comments below. And, don't forget to "rec" this if you want to keep it from getting buried long enough to get a significant number of votes.

 	<fieldset class="poll-box">

I am getting fed up with the NFL and the players union. Tickets cost to much, players salaries are way to high, stadiums cost owners to much to build on their own and taxpayers understandably don't want to or can't handle another tax increase to help. Maybe it is time to start over?

I am getting fed up with the NFL and the players union. Tickets cost to much, players salaries are way to high, stadiums cost owners to much to build on their own and taxpayers understandably don't want to or can't handle another tax increase to help. Maybe it is time to start over?

What is stopping owners from leaving the NFL? Owners own their team right? Could all or a group of owners leave the NFL and form a new league...say the GFL (Global Football League). Do owners own the name and logo rights or does the NFL.....another words, could the Bills still be the Bills in the GFL? Cut ticket prices and player salaries in half. Give players lifetime health coverage. Require owners to set aside a portion of the profits to build a new stadium....say every 30 years. Do whatever else is needed. They already have the infrastructure in place.....what is stopping them? Owners would certainly lose a great deal of money in the short term. I'm sure the value of a "new" team in a new league wouldn't be as great to start, but if all or the majority of the owners went for it, the value of the teams would rise quickly. Don't get me wrong, I would hate to see the end of the NFL, but if the players push the owners to far????

I can see why some people are high on this kid. If you don’t look past his big arm and a big smile, you might think he was to good to pass up. Too bad it takes more than a big arm and quick feet to be a great NFL QB.

I can see why some people are high on this kid. If you don’t look past his big arm and a big smile, you might think he was to good to pass up. Too bad it takes more than a big arm and quick feet to be a great NFL QB.

If not for his disastrous Bowl performance, the Newton hype train would have made a run for the #1 pick sooner. But alas, that Bowl game exposed Newton for the one trick pony that he currently is…..a running QB who can’t read a defense.

Newton’s physical skills might be elite, but his commitment to his studies are lacking. Cam doesn’t seem to think he should have to do his own homework. Newton was caught cheating not once but three times and may have been expelled. Did he fight the charges because they were untrue? No, he ran from them. He transferred to a Junior college where his “studies” and athletic competition would be much easier. Does this sound like a leader to you?

http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefootball/story/Source-says-Newton-left-Florida-after-cheating-scandal

And then there is the case of the stolen laptop with his name on it.

http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_college_uf/2008/11/backup-qb-camer.html

or perhaps you like this version better, which states Newton was also charged with intimidating a witness?

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Watch-for-falling-objects-around-Cam-Newton-s-do?urn=ncaaf-124037

If I purchased a laptop I didn’t know was stolen, I wouldn’t interfere with a police investigation by throwing it out a window or intimidating a witness….but that is just me.

Another issue I have with drafting Newton is that you are not just drafting Cam Newton….you’re drafting his father too. And while Cam’s part in pimping himself to the highest bidder may be unclear (translation….can’t be proven yet), Cecil’s part in that scandal is very clear and very dirty…..maybe it wasn’t illegal…if you believe Cam didn’t know anything about it, but it certainly wasn’t what I consider ethical. Here is where the excuse makers love to defend Newton. They have all these ideas about how daddy Newton was doing all of this behind his son’s back. But given how close they are, how can you reasonably believe that is the truth?

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5786315

One might think that after all that drama, Cam might be inclined to let…you know….tell his dad to keep a low profile and let his agent take care of promoting him at the next level. But no, Cam seems perfectly happy to let his father be a part of his PR team. Why does Cam allow his father to continue to represent him? Could it be because he agrees his tactics and has full knowledge of what his father was and is doing

Apparently, the rules don’t apply to Cam and his dad, even when they agree to follow them. Cecil was not supposed to be at the BCS game. He agreed to it. Must have changed his mind...or maybe the Newton’s are entitled to ignore the rules and do whatever they want.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Despite-contrary-reports-Cecil-Newton-was-at-BC?urn=ncaaf-306263

Maybe we should give Cecil the benefit of the doubt….after all, he is a “pastor”.

Where did all that money to fix his dad’s church come from? Cecil Newton makes me sick to my stomach. Pastor Pimp Daddy. I don’t want that guy anywhere near the face of my franchise.

Well, maybe Cam is better at following the rules of the road. Normally traffic tickets don’t bother me, but when they get to the point your license gets suspended and you think you have the right to keep driving anyway? Again, the word entitlement comes to mind. Anyone sensing a pattern of behavior here?

http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/6270202/25756998

Let’s hear from Cam in his own words

Yeah, his head is on straight.

Tired of talking about Newton’s character or lack there of? Good, me too. Let’s talk about his experience being a starting QB at the big time college level. Newton has one year as the starting QB at Auburn. And what kind of offense did he run that year? Per a post by kaisertown – “Newton’s offense threw the ball on 31% of offensive plays last year and Newton had more passing attempts than rushing attempts in only 6 games (two of which were Louisiana Monroe and Chatanooga).” Newton has little to no college experience running a Pro style offense in which he was asked to be a passer first instead of a RB who takes the snap. Therefore, Cam very little experience reading a defense that would even allow us to project whether he can do it at the NFL level. Don’t believe me….read the CBSsports scouting report. ….here are the “high” lights.

Accuracy: Generally demonstrates good accuracy, though he is inconsistent in the all important intermediate areas.

Arm Strength: Possesses plenty of arm strength to make every NFL throws.

Setup/Release: An area of legitimate concern.

Reading Defenses: Another area of concern. Was only asked to make 1-2 reads at Auburn

On the Move: Clearly his greatest trait.

Intangibles: Scouts question whether he has the football intelligence necessary to handle the myriad of formations and adjustments to be successful in a pro offense.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1273186

Does this sound like someone who should be the #3 overall pick to you? Newton screams one hit wonder. Didn’t the Maybin pick teach us anything? But fear not drinker of the Newton KoolAid, the memory of his actual performance as a passer at Auburn and his underwhelming BCS Bowl game performance has faded over time. Utube highlights and drills in the Combine are here to show off Newton’s physical skill and get everyone excited again.

Even if Newton can become a good NFL QB, I just don’t see this kids as a good fit for the city of Buffalo. If the Bills draft him, and if he does develop into a good QB, it will be just in time for him to leave for greener pastures and bigger dollars. Yes my friends, the big city is where Cam wants to be…mo money mo money mo money from a big fat new contract, jersey sales, endorsements, a reality TV show, and any thing else Cecil can think of to make a buck off his son. And make no mistake about it, money is what the Newton’s are most interested in. What was the point of his media only workout in California again? To let actual NFL scouts see the progress Newton has made?

http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/41509620/sports/player_news

Nope…..Ohhhhh….that’s right….it was to get the hype train kicked into high gear. At least he is smarter than Fairley and didn’t tell the media that he didn’t want to play in the cold. And what came of Newton’s media day?

Well, ESPN and Trent Dilfer loved it. Anyone else? How much should we trust Dilfer’s opinion? This time last year Dilfer liked Clausen and McCoy better than Bradford.

http://atlanta.sbnation.com/georgia-bulldogs/2011/2/10/1986787/cam-newton-media-day-workout-trent-dilfer

The red flags are all there, but people are willing to set aside common sense because his physical skills are impressive. Maybe this story sums it up best.

An old woman was walking down the road when she saw a gang of thugs beating a poisonous snake. She rescued the snake and carried it back to her home, where she nursed it back to health. They became friends and lived together for many months. One day they were going into town, and the old woman picked him up and the snake bit her. Repeatedly. "O God," she screamed, "I am dying! Why? I was your friend. I saved your life! I trusted you! Why did you bite me?"

The snake looked up at her and said, "Lady, you knew I was a snake when you first picked me up."

Put aside your desire as a Bills fan for an Elite QB and look objectively at what we know about Cam the person and Cam the QB. Don’t look for excuses, just look at the situation using a little common sense. Maybe a few of these issued could be overlooked, but Cam has quite the “rap sheet”. They all add up to a pattern of behavior that reveals Cam's true character. In my opinion:

1. Cam is a thief

2. Cam is a cheat

3. Cam is a liar

4. Cam runs from adversity

5. Cam doesn’t think the rules apply to him

6. Cecil has no issues engaging in unethical activities, so who is going to teach this kid right from wrong when he is a multi-millionaire?

7. Cam has never had to run a Pro style offense.

8. Cam was rarely asked to read a defense and struggled mightily trying to read the Ducks defense.

9. Cam’s ego and ambition can’t be satisfied in Buffalo

Now tell me honestly, does Cam Newton sound like the kind of player the Bills should use the #3 pick in the draft on? Or does he sound like that snake? I just hope the “old man” has more sense than that old lady in the story. I am firmly on the “Anyone but Cam Newton” bandwagon.

Just in case some of you were wondering, if the Bills do take Newton at #3, my reaction will be something like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwExDG7n7Zg&feature=related

Car: Clausen, 2nd – Was supposed to sit, but forced into action as a rookie. Benched by week 5. (0 years)

- A few things that stood out to me the most. Do starting QBs have to be taken in the first round? Of the QBs that were considered the starters this season that were drafted between 1991 – 2005, 11 were taken in the first round and 11 were taken in rounds 2-7. That’s right……50/50. Could the reason for this be that enough time has passed for first round busts to get cut and for late rounders to develop?

Next, I listed the QBs by how many years they sat before being named starters and their current status as of the end of the 2010 season.

P. Manning, 1998 - 1st - (0 years). Starter. Elite…One of the best all time

Collins, 1995, 1st – (0 years). Starter. At end of career

McNabb, 1999 - 1st - (0 years). Benched. At end of a very good career

Roethlisberger, 2004 - 1st - (0 years). Starter. Solid QB riding coat tails of great D

Young , 2006 - 1st - (0 years). Cut by Titians in 2010

Ryan, 2008 - 1st – (0 years). Very solid starter. Poised to become elite.

Flacco, 2008 - 1st - (0 years). Starter. Solid QB riding coat tails of great D

Sanchez, 2009 - 1st - (0 years). Starter. Inconsistent QB riding coat tails of great D

Stafford, 2009 - 1st - (0 years). Starter. Looks solid, but to soon to call.

Bradford, 2010 - 1st – (0 years). Starter. Looks solid, but to soon to call.

Clausen, 2010 - 2nd – (0 years). Benched. To soon to call.

McCoy, 2010 - 3rd - (.5 years). Starter. Inconsistent and battling injury, but to soon to call.

Tebow, 2010 - 1st - (.5 years). Starter. Inconsistent. To soon to call.

Smith, 2005 - 1st – (.5 years). Starter, but not for lack of trying to replace him

Cutler, 2006 - 1st – (.5 years). Starter. Inconsistent

Freeman, 2009 - 1st – (.5 years). Starter. Looks solid, but to soon to call.

Farve, 1991 – 2nd – (1 year). Hall of Fame QB. Elite, but at the end of career.

Vick, 2001 – 1st – (1 year). Starter. Inconsistent

Palmer, 2003 - 1st - (1 year). Starter. Injury and consistency issues. Wants to be traded

E. Manning, 2004 - 1st - (1 year). Starter. Solid QB riding coat tails of great D

Campbell, 2005 - 1st - (1 year). Benched. Inconsistent

Jackson, 2006 - 2nd – (1 year). Current starter by default, but in reality…career backup

Henne, 2008 - 2nd (1 year). Starter by default. Inconsistent.

Brady, 2000 - 6th Round - (1.5 years). Starter. Elite. One of the best all time

Romo, 2003 - Undrafted - (2 years). Starter. Solid but not elite

Rivers, 2004 - 1st - (2 years). Starter. Trying to push into elite status

Anderson, 2005 - 6th – (2 years). Benched. Inconsistent

Brees, 2001 - 2nd – (3 years). Starter. Elite

Schaub, 2004 - 3rd - (3 years). Starter. Inconsistent

Rodgers, 2005 - 1st – (3 years). Starter. Elite

Orton, 2005 - 5th - (3 years). Benched. Solid but not elite

Cassell, 2005 - 7th - (3 years). Starter. Solid but not elite

Kolb, 2007 - 2nd –(3 years). Benched.

Hasselbeck, 1998 - 6th – (5 years). Starter. Solid starter. Injury issues. At end of career

Garrard, 2002 - 4th - (5 years). Starter. Inconsistent

Fitzpatrick, 2005 – 7th - (5 years). Starter. Inconsistent

- Things that stood out to me. Currently, there are 16 QBs who won their starting job without sitting for at least one full year. Only 1 is Elite (P. Manning). Nine of those QBs were drafted in the past 3 years (2008-10). So while history has shown that throwing young QBs into the starting line up early is not the best way to develop elite QBs, the trend seems to be for teams to do so.

Of the five QBs I listed as elite (Farve, Manning, Brady, Brees, and Rogers), they averaged sitting 2 years before starting.

So does any of this help the Bills decide what round to take a QB? Probably not. I really think that there is no one single factor that can be pointed to as a definitive predictor of NFL success. Round taken, overall team talent, sitting for at least a year, coaching, work ethic, intangibles, experience in college running a Pro system, wonderlic score, playing in a NFL system that matches the QBs natural talents, etc. It is very complicated…..which is probably why the people who get paid to do this have trouble figuring it out.

Since the Senior Bowl has passed, I figured it was time to get a mock together. Round one - QB, Round two - OT...Right? Nope....and nobody was more surprised than me. Here is what I would do if I was the GM of the Bills.

1. (3) Patrick Peterson – CB – I didn’t take a QB???? Shocking I know….. I want to take a QB here so bad it hurts, but Locker did not look good in the Sr. Bowl and without seeing more of Gabbert, I just can't put him here. I can’t shake the feeling that he is this year’s Locker. Maybe Gabbert and/or Locker will end up being great NFL QBs, but can I really afford to find out? I may have already missed with Spiller. You can’t afford to repeatedly miss on your #1 pick, or you end up out of a job…just ask Jauron. Peterson is considered a top 3 pick and the best CB in this draft. He is a winner that has consistently produced as a CB and on special teams. From

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1632296

"Peterson played in 39 games, starting 30 times. He recorded 135 tackles, 22 pass breakups and seven interceptions on defense. As a return specialist, he finished with 418 punt returns yards and two touchdowns to go with 932 kickoff return yards. Peterson scored touchdowns three different ways during his career with the Tigers - punt returns (2), interception return, and return of a blocked field goal.

Intangibles: Confident, almost cocky demeanor on the field. Possesses the short memory of all great cornerbacks. Extremely competitive. Seems to relish the battles against top receivers in man coverage. Campaigned to be used on special teams and even offense while at LSU due to his natural playmaking skills. Good bloodlines. Cousins of NFL cornerback Bryant McFadden and wide receivers Santana and Sinorice Moss. Characterized as "freak" athlete. "

Peterson is a shutdown CB that can also tackle. I can’t find any character issues. Shutdown CBs can play in any system, so defensive scheme is not an issue. Peterson is the BPA and fills a need at CB, return specialist, and maybe even at S if need be.

2. (34) ILB - Martez Wilson Height: 6-4 Weight: 250 – The Bills need a thumper at ILB, and Wilson is the highest rated ILB in this year’s draft. From

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1272548

“Wilson lead the team in tackles this season (2010) with 112…….2009 - Recorded nine tackles in the season opener against Missouri … Suffered a herniated disc in his neck, which forced him to miss the remainder of the 2009 season …2008 - Ranked 14th in the Big Ten in tackles per game with 6.6 … Ranked fifth in the Big Ten in fumbles recovered with two …2007 - Played in all 13 games at linebacker … Posted three solo tackles in the Rose Bowl against USC.”

Not only does Wilson upgrade our LB core, but he will allow Poz to do what he does best, stay clean, run to the ball, and make plays. And again, it kills me not to take the best OT here…..there are so many freaking holes on this team it makes me sick. The Bills have made a point of picking up O-lineman from other teams’ practice squads. We can’t fill all of the holes we have at once. If we are lucky, we will pick up a RT via free agency. If not, look for Chan to try polishing more practice squad turds.

3. (68) QB - Collin Kaepernick Height: 6-5 Weight: 225 or Ricky Stanzi Height: 6-4 Weight: 221– And so it has come down to this….taking another developmental QB. I can’t tell you how disappointed I am in myself, but I can’t seem to justify taking one of the higher rated QBs like Gabbert, Locker, or Mallett, who I assume will all be gone by the time we pick in the second round. Assuming they are, I don't believe their is enough of a difference between a QB like Ponder and a QB like Kaepernick that an extra year of development won't fix. I actually liked Stanzi better as a passer. Stanzi was more poised in the pocket and had better accuracy. But there was no denying Kaepernick has better physical tools. Plus, he really seems to have the “it” factor. Some of the notes I took while watching Kaepernick in the Sr. Bowl:

First pass was picked, but not his fault. Has good pocket awareness and moves well in the pocket. He does look down field initially, but takes off running to soon. Has experience running the Pistol (Chan licks his chops). Big arm and really spins the ball. Raw as hell as a under center pocket type QB. Two year project. Very well spoken in his sideline interview. Confident but not arrogant. Saw him on the sidelines encouraging teammates.

Kaepernick's stock is on the rise, so if the Bills really want him they might have to take him in the second or settle for Stanzi here.

4. (99) DT - Jerrell Powe Height: 6-2 Weight: 320 – The cornerstone of the 3-4 is a true NT….that mountain of humanity that makes it next to impossible to run it straight up the gut. If you think Kyle Williams was good before, just wait until we put him next to this guy. From

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1632316

“2010 ALL-SEC FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM (COACHES): DL Jerrell Powe, Ole Miss, has been selected All-SEC Football Second Team for the 2010 college football season as selected by the SEC head football coaches. The senior defensive tackle earned second team honors for the second straight year, after garnering the same distinction in 2009 from the Associated Press. A native of Waynesboro, Miss., Powe was among the candidates for the Rotary Lombardi Award, Outland Trophy and Bronko Nagurski Trophy and was voted a Team Captain by his teammates. Despite often facing double teams, Powe amassed 27 total tackles, 8.5 TFLs and 2.5 sacks this season, including 1.5 sacks at No. 8 Alabama. Powe missed only one game in his three seasons with the Red and Blue and started 22 of 25 games the past two years.”

4. (121) OT - Marcus Gilbert Height: 6-6 Weight: 329 – I was hoping to take James Brewer here, but the Sr. Bowl seems to have boosted his stock as well. Gilbert might actually be as good, and certainly isn't this years version of Ed Wang. Gilbert played both RT and LT for the Gators, but I think he projects well as a RT in the NFL. The short version….this guy is a bulldozer with good feet. From

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1114672

“Pass blocking: Solid pass protector with a quick set, fluid lateral movement and willingness to go out and punch his man off the snap instead of waiting for the rush to come to him.

Run blocking: Effective size and mobility to be an extremely effective positional blocker at the next level. Anchors against strong defensive ends well, resets his hands to sustain the block. Moves his feet to wall off backside run support and sustain until the play is away. Also has quick feet to the second level; does more than get in the way, will extend his arms to fully negate linebacker (raises them off the ground at times). Good drive-blocker, churns forward after engaging and will usher his man downfield for seven to 10 yards.

Pulling/trapping: Effective trapping inside and getting out in front of plays run to side because of his quick feet. Moves around the guard or tight end well for his size, is flexible enough to turn the corner and find a target.

Initial Quickness: Gets off the snap very well for his size, gets into his opponent if man-up on the outside or tries to get to the linebackers in a hurry. Strong punch and arm extension to pass protect or lock up his man on run plays. Quick kick-slide to mirror most strong-side ends, though not elite in this area; his length allows him to compensate against quicker college defensive ends.

Intangibles: Reliable, durable player who consistently gives good effort. One of the team's senior leaders for 2010. Mature, well-liked player with no known character issues. Studies his playbook and constantly looks to improve. Father is a retired Secret Service agent. “

5. TE - Andre Smith Height: 6-4 Weight: 272 - Smith is solid in the running game as a blocking TE which is good because… let’s face it….our OTs are going to need the help. The good news is he is improving as a pass catcher and plays special teams too. From:

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1117478

“Moves into the top spot at tight end after being a key member of the rotation the past three seasons … Is coming off an exceptional spring … Coaches think he can be as good as he wants to be … The Hokies' only experienced player at the position … May have to be an every-down guy … Was a big asset to the Hokies' running game last season with his blocking … Led the tight ends with 21 knockdown blocks … Also plays a major role on special teams, starting on four different units … Is vastly improved in the passing game … Provides a big target with excellent hands … A key player for the Hokies in 2010.”

6. FB - Henry Hynoski Height: 6-2 Weight: 260 lbs – Is it possible that Coach Wannstedt might give Chan the 411 on this guy? From

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=69129&draftyear=2011&genpos=FB

“Hynoski was Pitts starting fullback each of the past two years. This past season he rushed 12 times for 33 yards and caught 25 passes for 174 yards and one touchdown…..FB Henry Hynoski is always overlooked when it comes to the Panthers' offense, but he has been a crucial part of it. Used mostly to block for RBs Dion Lewis and Ray Graham, Hynoski can get the tough yards inside as a change-of-pace runner and by catching an occasional pass. He has 18 receptions for a 7.2-yard average and one touchdown. Hynoski is coming back from a concussion, and the Panthers really need him to make the ground game go.”

7. NT - Chris Neild – Height: 6-2 Weight: 313 – Developmental NT with good character and leadership skills. From

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=75263&draftyear=2011&genpos=DT

“NG Chris Neild, the heart and soul of the defense, was slowed in the final game by a hamstring injury. He expected to play but did not get many snaps as he could not get it loose. He is expected back by bowl time…..Chris Neild, the senior out of Stroudsburg, Pa., has been impressing NFL scouts as he has anchored the middle of a WVU defensive line that has played well all season. Despite a position that doesn't lead itself to sacks, Neild has two already this season. Against LSU he had six tackles, second to S Robert Sands' nine.”

I can see it now….fourth and goal on the one…bring in “Heavy Jumbo” ….Williams – Neild – Powe – Troup. Try running against that!

So there it is......not really the mock I expected either.....life is funny that way ;-)

Don't forget to vote in the poll.

From:

The Spiller pick……I could never figure the logic of it. Then this week, I happen to hear Eric Mangini on Mike and Mike in the morning.

The Spiller pick……I could never figure the logic of it. Then this week, I happen to hear Eric Mangini on Mike and Mike in the morning.

Aside from his excellent breakdowns’ of this weekend's playoff games, Mangini also spoke about the draft. I am paraphrasing, but basically he said that coaches and front office personnel all do their due diligence on prospects. They do background checks, watch tape, talk to college coaches, do interviews with the player, etc. But in the end, when all things seem close to equal, some coaches end up selecting the player they like best as a person. After all, if you are going to draft a guy that might end up underperforming, you might as well like the guy. That is when the pieces all fell into place for me. Spiller may be an on the field disappointment in many ways, but he unquestionably has high character. Could that have been the deciding factor? Did CHIX take Spiller because he was BPA with high character? I don't have a better reason.

Now for the fun part….trying to figure out who CHIX will select in this upcoming draft. What do we know about the kind of players CHIX like?

BPA with High Character

Winners that have produced as Starters….no one year wonders

Tough – "This is a tough game for tough people"

Fits the system CHIX want to run

How do some of the top prospects stack up to these criteria? The majority of the player breakdowns are copied from CBS Sports.com.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings

Patrick Peterson – CB :

Peterson is considered a top 3 pick and BPA at CB. He is a winner that has produced, and has shown he can tackle. I would say that makes him tough. I can’t find any character issues, but does he have high character? Shutdown CBs can play in any system really. Therefore, I think Peterson could very likely be the pick if he is still there at #3.

Da’Quan Bowers – DE:

"He stepped in as a true freshman …..Still, some believed his four career sacks meant he was underachieving; winning the Bronko Nagurski and Ted Hendrick Awards and being named All-American and ACC Defensive Player of the Year as a junior with 25 tackles for loss and 15.5 sacks put a stop to that talk. His play was actually fueled by the death of his mentor, Adams (cardiac arrest) and his father (seizure) in the span of 12 months. His strength at the point of attack as run-stopper and sack-master gives him the potential to be a long-time playmaker like Shaun Ellis or possibly even a game-changing 4-3 strong-side end in the Michael Strahan mold.… gifted musician who has been guitarist in his father's Gospel band for the last few years….

Intangibles: Matured and turned on his game after losing his mentor, former DE Gaines Adams (cardiac arrest) and his father (seizure) over the past year. Lost 20 pounds between junior and senior seasons. His best football is ahead of him. Has become a student of the game."

Bowers is BPA at DE in the draft. I don’t find any character issues. Given how he has handled the recent deaths in his life coupled with his time spent playing guitar, I would bump him up into the high character category. Some think he will be a waste as a 3-4 DE, but I am not one of them. I see him putting on some weight and being a Bruce Smith like DE. If he can't put on the weight, he could stay at his current weight as a rush only OLB type. I think he is too big and slow to drop into coverage. He did miss a few games due to injury, but still has played enough games to consider him experienced and not injury prone. Some might say he falls into the one hit wonder category. He will be on the board, but not at the top of it.

Nick Fairley – DT:

Fairley is well known as a dirty player and has said he doesn’t want to play in the cold. He may be a BPA at DT, but certainly isn’t of high morale character. I think CHIX pass on him.

A.J. Green – WR:

"Despite missing seven games the past two seasons due to injury or suspension, Green leaves the University of Georgia after his junior season second in school history with 23 touchdown catches and third with 2,542 receiving yards…..

Intangibles: Suspended for the first four games of the 2010 season for selling a jersey to an agent. Recipient of Neel Family Football Scholarship. Member of the Summer 2009 Honor Roll. Respected by teammates and coaching staff. Voted Team MVP following the 2010 season."

Green is a top 5 pick and BPA at WR. I don’t think the jersey selling issue will deter CHIX as long as no other character issues pop up. Green has consistently produced, is big strong, and has not missed enough games to injury to be a concern. Green is a true #1 WR that can play in any system. Green will be high on CHIX draft board.

Marcell Dareus – DT:

"Dareus' size and strength stood out as a five-technique in Nick Saban's preferred 3-4 scheme. Able to control his opponent, he clears the way for Alabama's linebackers to pad their stats and could play a similar role in the NFL. Dareus' short, stocky frame, however, is more conducive to playing inside at defensive tackle in the 4-3 alignment. The ability to play either role should make Dareus one of the first defensive linemen selected in the 2011 draft….. Endured a troubled childhood. Father died when Dareus was six, leaving mother to support six children. Dareus has lived with others throughout much of his life, including an assistant coach in high school and a sponsor family while in college."

Intangibles: Suspended by the NCAA for the first two games of the 2010 season when it was discovered that he'd accepted inappropriate benefits from an agent.

"According to the facts of the case submitted by Alabama, these benefits included airfare, lodging, meals and transportation during two trips to Miami, Florida."

http://www.examiner.com/alabama-crimson-tide-in-birmingham/marcell-dareus-gets-2-game-suspension-from-ncaa-saban-comments

How Dareus got 2 games and Green got 4 games is beyond me . Dareus is considered the 2nd best DT in the draft. Physically, he reminds me of a more athletic version of Kyle Williams, but if we are sticking with the 3-4 do we really need another short, stocky framed DT. I am not sure why Brian, among others, thinks Dareus is a better fit in the 3-4 than Bowers.

Blaine Gabbert – QB:

"Gabbert won 18 games in his two years as the starting quarterback for Mizzou ….Gabbert's decision to enter the draft early was a bit surprising, especially when considering his inexperience taking snaps from under center (though that would not have changed in Missouri's 2011 offense) and inconsistency in the face of pressure. His size, quick release, arm strength and athleticism make him an intriguing prospect. He could be a first-round pick due to the lack of top-tier prospects and the importance of the position…….

Accuracy: Regularly shows the ability to place the ball on his target's numbers, though most of his best throws came within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage because of the Missouri spread offense. Inconsistent throwing outside the hashes, however, making some fantastic throws on out routes and sailing many others above the head of open receivers or coming up short on touch throws over the top. Also inconsistent on short throws when under pressure.

Reading Defenses: Will take time to transition to the NFL because he runs the typical spread offense. Only reads one receiver on many plays, or even half of one side of the field. Stares down receivers and defenders read him easily. Does not look for secondary receivers, tends to take off instead. Fails to see blitzes coming consistently, even when they aren't disguised.

Intangibles: Respected leader in the locker room. Has the confidence to win over the huddle. Willing to put in the time in the film room to master the offense. Very competitive, gives full effort on the field. Played only five games as a high school senior because of foot and shoulder injuries."

Gabbert is currently considered the BPA at QB. He is well respected by his players and coaches as a hard worker. He is a winner, but has only started two full years and has had injury issues. He is accurate and mobile…the kind of QB CHIX would like to mold into a franchise QB.

Jake Locker – QB:

"Rated by some as the elite prep quarterback in the country despite hailing from a town (Ferndale, Wa.) with a population of approximately 11,000 people, the multi-talented Locker has been compared to everyone from John Elway to Nolan Ryan.

Blessed with a rare combination of size, arm strength and overall athleticism, Locker was an immediate star for the Huskies…… The promise of future greatness is precisely what keeps NFL scouts watching Locker so closely. He remains a highly inconsistent passer who can be fooled by defenses, but his seemingly unlimited upside may still result in a first-round pick…..

Accuracy: Showed significant improvement in 2009, though still a work in progress in this area. Has to do a better job of setting his feet before making the throw. Too often forces receivers on short and intermediate routes to slow or reach wide to collect his throws. Flashes surprising touch down the seam and in hitting the back on swing passes, though he needs to gain consistency here. Proved most accurate in critical situations, drilling a variety of pro-style throws (comebacks, crossing routes and deep-outs) when Washington faced some of its best competition or in situations with the game on the line.

Reading Defenses: May have regressed as a senior in this area after improving significantly from his sophomore season (under Tyrone Willingham) to his junior season (first under Sarkisian). Has a tendency to stare down his primary option. Can be too aggressive and will throw the deep ball into double-coverage.

Intangibles: In addition to his durability and consistency concerns, scouts also have to worry if Locker will remain in football. He's a dual sport athlete who has twice been drafted by MLB's Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.. Highly respected by the coaching staff, teammates and fans. Gutty, determined. Named a team captain in 2009 and 2010.

2010: Missed one game due to broken ribs.

2008: Missed eight games due to torn ligaments and a broken right thumb.

2007: Missed the cal game due to a neck sprain."

Locker is currently considered the 3rd best QB in the draft, but I would expect that to change as the draft process plays out. He has Tebow like character and a blue collar work ethic. He is a 4 year starter. He has shown he can lead a team to a win in big games. He has been injured, but considering his style of play and the Huskies horrible O-line, I consider Locker very durable and unquestionably tough. He has a big arm and is mobile. I would not be surprised if Locker is CHIX highest rated QB.

After taking all this into account, I think the top 3 players on CHIX Big Board will look like this:

1. Peterson

2. Locker

3. Green

I realize I have left some of your favorites off the board. Go ahead and make a case for them in the comments section.

For the record. I called Fitz as the starter, with Brohm as the second string QB, and Brown as our 3rd stringer.

I posted this

Good job Brian

I can’t believe some of the brow beating you took for saying Fitz is the front runner. I have been saying that for quite awhile. Fitz ended the season as the starter….nothing has changed yet.

My take on our QBs……

Fitz – Not consistently accurate, but good enough. Is willing to thrown the 50/50 deep ball. Best at anticipating the window and throwing the ball to the WR in stride. Best feel in the pocket and can scramble and throw on the run, which will be a big plus behind our Oline. Best leader out of the group. I think Gailey will make Fitz the starter this season, but only because Brohm and Brown are not ready. I would not be surprised if Fitz is the backup or even gets cut next year.

Edwards – Most accurate. Throws the best looking ball…..nice tight spiral. Hardest worker. Handles the media well. Although Trent has seems to be attempting more deep balls in OTAs, I am not confident that he will continue to do so when the rush is real. I think Captain Checkdown will re-appear in the pre-season. Also, I don’t see how Edwards can make it through the season behind our O-line without getting another concussion and/or some other injury. I can’t get over the fact he lost the team last year. I don’t see Edwards making the 53 man roster. I would love for Edwards to prove me wrong, but he would also make me the most nervous if he was the starting QB. How long before he get hurts or losses his confidence again?

Brohm – Kid is Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde right now. Throws some great balls, but seems to have accuracy issues. Has potential, but I don’t think he is ready yet. Has potential to be the starter this season, but everything would have to click during training camp. I think he will be the backup QB this year.

Brown – Most physically gifted. Seems to be able to fit the ball into tight windows. Raw as hell, but to good to try to stash on the PS. Lock to be the 3rd string QB this year. Will compete for the starting QB job next year.

Show me the baby CHIX, and it better not look like the pool boy from our vacation at Club Jauron!!!!!

“I’m not sure if I disagree with this being the logic behind Nix’s decisions or if I disagree with this logic if it is what lead Nix to address the positions he did, but I definitely disagree with something.” – kaisertown

by Joe P. on Jun 5, 2010 11:04 PM CDT reply actions

What are you going to do this Memorial Day Weekend? Perhaps someone has asked you that question recently.....I know I have answered and asked that same question many times this week already. Most answers included things like go to the lake, grill, drink beer, play golf, etc. For some reason, the thought crossed my mind......do people know why we celebrate Memorial Day?

What are you going to do this Memorial Day Weekend? Perhaps someone has asked you that question recently.....I know I have answered and asked that same question many times this week already. Most answers included things like go to the lake, grill, drink beer, play golf, etc. For some reason, the thought crossed my mind......do people know why we celebrate Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is a day we take time to remember all members of the United States armed forces who have been killed in war. So before you head off to the lake, the links, or crack open a cold one with some friends, take some time this weekend to honor our fallen heroes.....real heroes....people who have died fighting for our freedom so we can spend our time thinking about who is the Bills punter of the decade. Some of you history buffs what to know more? This link might help you out. Here is a little teaser.

"Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11, and was first observed on 30 May 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. The first state to officially recognize the holiday was New York in 1873. By 1890 it was recognized by all of the northern states. The South refused to acknowledge the day, honoring their dead on separate days until after World War I...."

Memorial Day Website

And even though this video was meant to be played for Veteran's Day, it's message is still worth hearing. Personally, it gives me goose bumps.

This mock will focus on strengthening the offensive and defensive lines, and takes into account the FA signings of DE Edwards and ILB Davis. It is still my opinion that a combination of injury, lack of talent on the roster, lack of availability of impact Free Agents do to the current CBA situation, and the switch to the 3-4 defense makes drafting line heavy a very prudent move. This is how I would draft if I were the Bills GM.

To make things a little more interesting, I have Lynch being traded for a 3rd and 4th, and yes I think this could still happen. To who? I don't know, but the Redskins would be my first choice. The Vikings are also a possibility.

1 - LT - Bryan Bulaga Height: 6-6 Weight: 312 - Outside of QB, we have no greater need than LT. I assume Clausen and Bradford will be gone, so that leaves no QB worthy of being considered this high. Bell may be a LT, but due to his performance last season at the position, I would rather pencil him in at RT. We can't afford to take the chance of not landing a franchise LT again this year. Time to draft some competition for Bell and let the loser play RT. Bulaga is my #1 LT and I hope he doesn't go sooner than expected. Many mocks have the Chiefs taking him. Bulaga is the nastiest LT in this year's draft. He reminds me of Oher, who the Bills should have taken…..but I digress. Bulaga has the prototypical quick feet and long enough arms to play the position. Bulaga's arms are the same length as Jason Peters, so please don't tell me his arms are to short. He makes his block and then looks for someone else to hit. He might lack some of the power that Davis has, but that is nothing an NFL weight room can't fix. Imagine a left side of Bulaga and Levitre. If Bulaga is gone, I am torn between taking Trent Williams or Dan Williams. If the Bills are targeting a QB in the second round, I would give the nod to Trent.

http://www.mockingthedraft.com/2010/3/13/1371102/bryan-bulaga-nfl-draft-scouting
http://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2010bbulaga.php

2 - G - Vladimir Ducasse Height: 6-5 Weight: 330 - . In case you can't tell, I am determined to fix the O-line with some depth to spare. Wood's injury was nasty. Even with Wood reportedly being ahead of schedule, I have doubts as to whether he will be 100% ready to start come September. Either way with Butler gone, I think we need another Guard. I would like to see Wood moved to Center and Hang come off the bench. To bad Ducasse had to have such a great Sr Bowl or we would have been able to get him in the 3rd. “Excellent size with a huge frame and long arms --- Tough, physical and aggressive --- Very strong --- Good athleticism and agility --- Quick and fires off the snap --- Light on his feet --- Gets an outstanding push in the run game --- Stout at the point of attack and can anchor --- Mobile with range to pull, get out in space and reach the second level --- Is feisty and competitive with a nasty on-field demeanor --- Zealous work ethic --- Is versatile --- Durable --- Experienced --- Considerable upside.”

http://www.draftcountdown.com/ScoutingReports/OT/Vladimir-Ducasse.php
http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=85558&draftyear=2010&genpos=OT

3 - NT - Torrell Troup Height: 6-3 Weight: 314 - I would rather not see Kyle Williams as our starting NT, especially on running plays. Troup is a guy who is more of what we are looking for in a 3-4 NT. He is the 3rd best NT behind Williams and Cody and has enough talent to start for the Bills at NT from day one. Has the frame to put on more weight. Strong at the point of attack which helps him be a good run stuffer. Hard worker and seems very likable.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1621669
http://www.fftoolbox.com/nfl_draft/profile_display.cfm?prospect_id=2444
http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=86414&draftyear=2010&genpos=DT

3 (from Lynch trade) - ILB - Micah Johnson Height: 6-2 Weight: 256 - Even though we picked up a solid FA in Davis, he is no spring chicken. If we can get a year or two out of Davis, then Johnson should be ready to take over. If not for injury, Johnson would go much higher but should last this long. He did not perform well at the combine and only slightly better at his ProDay, so he should be available here. He is the stack and shed linebacker we need in the middle. Very explosive with good sideline to sideline range. Huge upside.

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=65555&draftyear=2010&genpos=ILB
http://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2010mjohnson.php
http://www.fftoolbox.com/nfl_draft/profile_display.cfm?prospect_id=2256

4. - QB - John Skelton Height: 6-5 Weight: 250 - Anyone who knows me knows I have to include a developmental QB. Skelton is a poor mans Flacco. “East-West Shrine Tuesday Practice: None of the East quarterbacks, John Skelton (Fordham), Daryll Clark (Penn State) and Mike Kafka (Northwestern), had particularly strong days. Skelton clearly has the best size and arm strength, but failed to hit his target most times. It's difficult for quarterbacks and receivers to get on the same page early in the week, so even though Skelton couldn't connect with receivers downfield, the fact he could drive the ball deep while the Big Ten quarterbacks struggled to do so is still in his favor.” - Chad Reuter, The Sports Xchange, NFLDraftScout.com

This pick was DE - Brandon Deaderick, but with the pick up of FA Edwards and the fact Skelton's stock has risen, I had to pick the QB. Worst case, he becomes the backup apparent to whoever we take at QB next season. Best case, we get a steal and he becomes our version of Matt Stafford.

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=81197&draftyear=2010&genpos=qb
http://www.fftoolbox.com/nfl_draft/profile_display.cfm?prospect_id=2452

4 (from Lynch trade) - RB - LeGarrette Blount Height: 6-1 Weight 240 - A character risk, but is a bruising north/south runner. Blount will have a chip on his shoulder and I think he will run hard and keep this nose clean. My hope is that he has learned the lessons Lynch seems unwilling to learn. Good compliment to Jackson. And, by trading Lynch we also get Johnson at ILB.

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=81967&draftyear=2010&genpos=RB
http://www.fftoolbox.com/nfl_draft/profile_display.cfm?prospect_id=2187

5 - O'Brien Schofield - Height: 6-2 Weight: 238 - Here is Maybin's running mate for the Bills at OLB. He should have gone in the first round, but tore the ACL in his knee at the Sr Bowl, which is why he might drop this far.

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=78508&draftyear=2010&genpos=OLB
http://www.fftoolbox.com/nfl_draft/profile_display.cfm?prospect_id=2437

6 - NT - Kade Weston Height: 6-5 Weight: 325 - Developmental NT. “Kade Weston was another defensive lineman who stood out. He measured just under 6-feet, 5-inches, weighed 315-pounds, yet still ran the 40 in a time of 5-seconds flat. His vertical jump was solid at 29.5 inches. Weston received applause from the coaches during position drills as he displayed terrific hand punch and foot quickness during the bag drill.”

http://www.draftinsider.net/blog/?tag=nfl-draft

6 - Marcus Easley WR Height: 6-2 Weight 215 - Stealing this guy from Kurupt, so in his own words. “Easley has very good size at 6'2", 215 lbs, and is expected to run somewhere around a 4.4 at the combine. He's a very late bloomer, having walked on at UConn and making an impact only in his senior year, but he has all the attributes you look for in a WR. He has very good hands to go with prototypical size and speed. He needs a lot more work, but could really be a major find for whatever team drafts him. With so many questions surrounding James Hardy and Steve Johnson, it's worth a gamble here.”

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=77831&draftyear=2010&genpos=WR

7 - Nate Byham TE Height: 6-4 Weight: 268 - Coming off a shoulder injury, but has good size. He was supposed to be the man until the emergence of Dorin Dickerson. If Byham is gone, Brody Eldridge would work too.
http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=64722&draftyear=2010&genpos=TE

7 -David Pender CB Purdue Height: 6-1 Weight: 175 - Developmental CB. Somewhere Jauron is smiling. “Pender will work out at the combine after starting for three years at Purdue. His 33 pass breakups are second-most in school history and two shy of Steve Jackson's school record set from 1987-90. Pender had one of only four interceptions Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen threw last season.” http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=75741&draftyear=2010&genpos=CB

If the Bills are serious about getting Bradford or Clausen

I think the Rams take Bradford with the number one pick, but maybe he has a bad Pro Day or the Rams doctors don't like what they see when they look at his shoulder.

I think the Rams take Bradford with the number one pick, but maybe he has a bad Pro Day or the Rams doctors don't like what they see when they look at his shoulder.

If the Rams don't take Bradford number one, then both he and Clausen will most likely be there at pick four with the Redskins on the clock. If the Rams take Bradford, then Clausen should still be there. If Bills want either Bradford or Clausen, they are going to have to trade up to 4th to be sure to get one of them. If the Redskins think Jason Campbell is their guy, they might be looking at taking a LT but not want to take one this high, especially if Okung is off the board. How about we offer to swap 1st rounders with the Redskins and throw in Lynch? I know they have Portis, but Portis has already chosen to leave Shanny once for more money when he was with Denver. Portis has also been bitten by the injury bug lately, including a concussion. I know trading Lynch isn't a popular idea around here, but if it got us a franchise QB?
