A possible ILB for us if we decide to wait until the 2nd day

Kiko Alonso out of Oregon. I've had him in my last two Bears mocks going to us in the 4th but after a strong Pro Day there is a lot of buzz around him. He does come with baggage but could be worth the risk. What do ya think?

Tebow to the Bears?.....

New Bears coach Marc Trestman recruited Tim Tebow to North Carolina State in 2006 and tutored Tebow in preparation for the 2010 Senior Bowl. "I believe in the right environment Tim Tebow will figure this out," Trestman said in 2010. "He doesn’t have explosive arm strength, but he has more than adequate arm strength to throw the ball in the NFL and make all the throws. ... If you’re a coach and you love coaching quarterbacks, you’d love the opportunity to develop Tim Tebow." The Jets are expected to release Tebow after the Super Bowl, so Trestman should have an opportunity to sign him in March. I don't know about you, but I'd take Tebow as a "developmental backup" as long as he was getting paid like one.

Brandon Hardin placed on I.R.

And just like that safety depth is again a concern.

Brian Price passes physical

Three NFL scouts with other teams unanimously deemed the Price acquisition a strong personnel move for the Bears, who have a need for depth at defensive tackle and may have landed a potential starter. One scout considers Price to possess "Pro Bowl talent," and another said he'd be "surprised" if Price doesn't crack Chicago's starting lineup "provided he's healthy." Considering his production last season in which he admited to being only 60% healthy I'd say those aren't completely unrealistic expectations.

A new deal for Forte coming soon?

Adam Schefter: RT @JSKing61: Any news on Forte extension? Think he is worth it? ... Think that deal gets done by July 16. And he's worth what Bears pay.

Is drafting O-Linemen in the 1st round overrated?

....."I'm J'Marcus Webb and I endorse this message."

Bears to meet with FA LB Rocky McIntosh

This looks like it could be a solid depth signing. Also, if you scroll down a little there is mention that Michael Floyd is one of the players the Vikings are considering with the #3 pick.

OG/C prospect Joe Slowey impresses at Western Oregon pro day in front of Bears coaches

I stumbled across this while trying in vein to find a scouting report on this guy. After comparing his Broad Jump, Short Shuttle, Bench reps and 40 time to the combine performers at Center and Guard he would have been a top performers at either position. Guard/Center combine numbers: http://m.nfl.com/combine/events/broad-jump/c/

What is Matt Forte worth on the trade market?

Here is an interesting little write-up on some possible trade candidates and some potential trade partners.

Amobi Okoye to visit the Bengals

If Okoye signs elsewhere that could open the door to drafting a DT as early as the 4th. I'll be honest, I would LOVE to see Mike Martin in a Bears uniform #SecretStud.

MTD live 7 round mock draft starts tonight

Come over to MTD and join the open thread/draft fun tonight starting at 6:30. Also, we need a backup Bears drafter still.

Could Kuechly be there at #19

MTD breaks down a very realistic situation in which Kuechly falls to the Bears at 19. I don't know about anyone else but I think he's the top player for us if he's there at 19.

Winners and Losers of the combine interviews

Scroll down near the bottom and you'll find a nice little write up of some of the players who helped or hurt their stock during the combine interview process.

PFF's top ranked free agent CB's

There are two guys on this list I'd really like to see in a Bears uniform next year and one of them was in one last year.

MTD live mock draft!

come join the open thread, we're in the 4th right now

Full 4 round mock draft 1.0

Ah, tis the season.... Draft season that is. As with many people I love the draft. It is a time for unbridled optimism and seamingly endless debates over which prospect should be taken where and...

Keep an eye on this guy

This guy sounds like he could make a solid developmental ILB who could provide good depth at the position.

Brandon Marshall wants to team up with Franchise QB

By the sound of things he's pretty content in South Beach, and there's no reason to believe Joe Philbin doesn't Wang him there. So can we please stop talking about a fictional Brandon Marshal trade.

Vikings shopping the #3 pick

Like I said in the comments. It would be awesome if we could move up to get Kalil.

7 Bears make PFF All NFC North team

I found this interesting and contrasted some popular belief around here: The pair (Tillman and Jennings) conceded just a single touchdown all season, with neither player allowing over 60% of targets into their coverage to be complete. Neither player allowed a catch longer than 47 yards all season and both played the run well in addition to their coverage skills (something that hurt Williams’ case).

Brian Quick added to Senior Bowl roster

This is big for him. A good showing would do a lot to answer the questions about his lack of quality opponents. A bad showing however, will make those questions all the more legitimate.

Updated WR rankings from Mocking the Draft

I gotta say, I'm a big fan of what they did at the #2 spot. Also there is some major sleeper potential in the middle of this group (12-18).

3 Bears WR's ranked in bottom 20 in drop rate by PFF

Suprise suprise. Another guy who makes the bottom 20 is a popular name around these parts.

Lance Briggs replacement?

This guy screams Tampa 2 OLB, they even list his player comparison as Lance Briggs. As of now I have yet to see his draft stock being any higher than our pick in the 3rd. So what do you say?

Pete Konz to evaluate draft stock

I would love seeing him in a Bears uni, and as it stands now he should fall right around where we're gonna be picking in the 1st. 3 reasons why he makes sense: -We need a long term, dominant leader at Center who can anchor the line (Spencer and Garza are stop gaps who are no better than average) -He goes to Wisconsin. This is important because they pump out NFL ready lineman like a factory. Its also important because Tice's son plays there which means (much like with Carimi) he will have seen plenty of him and has inside information on him. -As a big bodied (6-5, 315) mauler he fits Tice's scheme like a glove.

Is Edwin Williams a long term answer to the interior line?

"Although the legacy of Mark Bortz is probably not in jeopardy yet, Edwin Williams (+4.0) had a very effective game across all its facets. He was perfect in pass protection (would have been an oxymoron if I’d used Chicago in the same sentence) but also did a good job opening holes for his backs. He was the only one to hold his own against Branch, took Hawthorne to task at the second level, and also showed the ability to pull smoothly. Check out his block on Leroy Hill with 12:00 left in the third. This is his fifth start now and he may be getting into a rhythm. I for one am interested to see how he progresses." I found this very interesting especially after recalling that PFF had him as the teams highest graded O-Linman of 2010.

Bears OL ranked 31st in league by Pro Football Focus

Khaled Elsayed: "No real surprises with the Bears getting poor performances from practically everyone setting foot on the line. Lance Louis was the latest to ‘shine’ in this regard after giving up five sacks, but he’s not the worst culprit. No, you’d be better off looking at the 10 penalties J’Marcus Webb has given up, or the consistently poor run blocking of Roberto Garza. It says something when the highest-graded player is Chris Spencer (-2.8)."

"Some of those games in the playoffs in high school got pretty cold, like in the 50's"

Matt Stafford in response to playing (outside) at Soldier field in mid-November. This made me smile in a sinister sort of way.
