Top Prospect Joachim Nermark: "I thrive on responsibility."
Editor's Note: Johan continues his series of interviews with the top Swedish prospects in the 2011 draft pool.
Today I'll take a look at one of the top Swedish prospects for the 2011 NHL entry Draft -- Joachim Nermark. Nermark, a center, led all teams in points at this summer's Ivan Hlinka tournament with 5G and 6A and is climbing the draft boards at the moment. I had a chance to talk to him last week. Nermark is currently ranked 24th overall by International Scouting Services and is listed as one of four 'A Players To Watch' in Sweden by Central Scouting.
Mika Zibanejad Interviews With The Copper & Blue
Editor's Note: We are very excited to welcome Johan Barrender back to The Copper & Blue. Last year, Johan gave us our first detailed looks at Paajarvi and Anton Lander and was responsible for our introduction to Jimmy Hamrin, which led to interviews with Paajarvi and Lander. He's back with a series of interviews and scouting reports on the top Swedes eligible for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He kicks off his series with an interview with Mika Zibanejad.
Last season I gave you some reports on Magnus Paajarvi, Anton Lander, and Linus Omark. This year I'll take a look at some of this year's highly-touted Swedish prospects. It looks like a good year for Swedish players as early projections have three players (Larsson, Rask and Landeskog) going in the top ten, and that a few more Swedes will be called before the first round is over.
Throughout the season I will bring you reports and interviews with these Swedish players, starting today with two-way center Mika Zibanejad, who's been steadily climbing the draft boards, and is projected as a potential late first or early second round pick.

So how was MPS and Lander's week?
To get a diffrent perspective on what's going on with Timrå and Pääjärvi-Svensson and Lander I called in a favor from our good friend Jimmy Hamrin who runs a great blog about Timrå over at blog.st.nu/tikare. Here's what he had to say
Timrå has rebounded after a heavy slump. Versus MoDo we started out really good but fell through in the second period. The match ends 3-3 after full time but Timrå got a quick goal insudden death. The match had a playoff feel between two rival teams who both are just outside the playoffs right now. Against Skelleftea who are on steady ground in standings, Timrå had a chance to inch closer to a playoff spot. But they started the match very weak and in a disadvantageous position with 0-2. Timrå worked hard to make it 2-2 but ended up losing 2-3, very reminiscent of what Edmonton did against Dallas. As a team Timrå had a very uneven showing where one line was excellent while the others remained anonymous.
An update on Timrå, Anton Lander & Magnus Pääjärvi-Svensson

It's been a few weeks since the World Juniors and Anton Lander and Magnus Pääjärvi-Svensson is back with Timrå in the Swedish Elite league. Just like the Oilers the team is in the bottom of the league, but whereas the Oilers might get Taylor Hall as a consolation prize, Timrå is actually facing relegation from the top league.
Anton Lander - Natural Born Leader
Having had sufficient time to digest the huge disappointment that was the Swedish team's play in the World Juniors, one of the few things that really stands out in a positive way is Anton Lander.
The Oiler prospect truly displayed not only the most consistent play, but first and foremost showed incredible leadership skills.
He immediately was named an assistant captain, and on the Swedish players blogs....... wait let me address this first. Some of the Swedish players actually had blogs going throughout the tournament?! Seriously they were blogging about Swedish soaps and the quality of the internet speeds at the hotels. Maybe they should've spent that time working on how to actually play against forechecking teams or learning how to block shots, but i digress.
Omark a longshot to make Swedish olympic team
Team Sweden played the last game of The Channel one Cup in Russia today. The tournament was pretty much the non-NHLers last chance to impress the coaches before Swedens Olympic squad selection. Oilers prospect Linus Omark has been on the bubble for a while, and needed a really strong showing to make the team.
He really had a great game today against Finland, but sadly his play throughout the tournament probably hasn't earned him one of the last slots on the team. At least according to the experts and Omark himself, who was pretty much heartbroken that his chances to play in Vancouver are slim at best.
A look at Linus Omark
Back in 2007 Edmonton made what in my mind could become one of the biggest steals of the NHL draft in recent years when they selected Linus Omark in the 4th round. At the time he was in his first full season of the Swedish Elite League, two years later he had scored 55pts in 53 games for Luleå and had become an internet sensation thanks to this:
A look at Magnus Pääjärvi-Svensson
Today I continue my reports on the Oilers Swedish projects, with a report on the always exciting Magnus Pääjärvi-Svensson.
