FULL SIZE IMAGE How can I break my streak? I don't get it. What do I have to do? WHAT DO I DO?? I posted this back in December and nothing has changed. It's been a busy summer, but I attended my first game of the season and after Lucas Duda shed some hope on Flushing, Mike Stanton tore it all away. The image above is my instantaneous reaction to the home run right from the crack of the bat, and also the reaction of my non-Mets fan friends who attended the game with me. Notice I'm not sitting with them for good reason at such a crucial point in the game. So now what? 16 straight losses in a row. Do I keep trying or give up forever?

Happy Birthday to GonzoBallSHU!

Happy Birthday to our beloved editor! Have a great one, Bob!

Congrats to Seton Hall Baseball

Baseball? Yes! I figured with the lull in basketball, it would be nice to congratulate Seton Hall's baseball team which recently made a strong resurgence and clinched a spot in the Big East tournament yesterday. The team is hot right now, having won five of their last six games of the year to give themselves the #5 seed in the tournament. They will face West Virginia in the first round. I'm sure JP will have some analysis on this at some point. It's always nice to see a Seton Hall program do well. Also, if you haven't read today's NY Daily News, there was a nice feature piece about Seton Hall outfielder Zach Granite. Go get em, boys!

Recruiting in the Social Networking Age

Great article by the New York Times about recruiting in the internet era and how it has negatively and positively affected the game; also, a little bit of information on NCAA fan code in terms of recruiting.

1927 film of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig found in a cellar

Very cool article from today's NY Times about a piece of film, circa 1927, which was found in an old wine cellar and features Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig taking part in some leisure time with fans during their barnstorming tour. If the film's suspected date is legitimate, that would mean this video is from the same year in which Murderer's Row became infamous; also the same year Lou Gehrig won his first MVP Award and Babe Ruth hit a monstrous 60 home runs. Very interesting.

Zagoria: Keno Davis fired from Providence

Providence announced today they will buy out the remaining five years on Keno Davis' contract and look for a new coach. He was there for just three seasons. Davis, who was 2008 AP National Coach of the Year in his first and only year at Drake, had been an assistant under his legendary father, Tom Davis, who has 598 career wins and is best known for his successes at Boston College and Iowa. Keno Davis spent just one year at Drake before accepting the position at Providence. He took Providence to the NIT in his first season, but after two disappointing season, the school decided to let him walk. Keno Davis is a good coach and he will certainly find work. It's a shame he was given so little time, but that's the nature of college basketball this day and age. People want instant results.

Zagoria: Lekan Ajayi says Seton Hall is his favorite

According to Adam Zagoria this morning, 6-11 center Lekan Ajayi, a Senior at Quality Education Academy in North Carolina, says Seton Hall is his favorite after a weekend visit to the campus. Ajayi also sat courtside with fellow recruit Kyle Anderson this weekend and commented on how much he likes Seton Hall's style of play. Lekan Ajayi, a native of Nigeria, has a good skill set and a big frame. This would be a huge pickup for the program and for Kevin Willard. Many people have knocked Willard's recruiting style, but pulling in a big man like Ajayi would be a great signing. Ajayi is currently averaging 9.5 PPG, 15.5 RPG, and 2.3 BPG in his final year at Quality Education Academy.

Geramipoor cleared to play, according to his doctors

According to a status made by Aaron Geramipoor on his Facebook page today, he has been cleared to play by his doctors. Geramipoor's status has been unknown this season after being sidelined with a bad case of mononucleosis and after many rumors suggested he would redshirt. However after the transfer of Ferrakhon Hall to Memphis and the broken left hand of Jeremy Hazell, the Pirates are incredibly thin on the bench. This doesn't mean Geramipoor will play by any means, but being cleared by his doctors in addition to the two week injury sustained by Patrik Auda this week, it's certainly not out of the question for him to see minutes in a game or two.

Jose Canseco just won't give up

You don't have to be very intelligent to notice that Jose Canseco is begging for a job. Look at his Twitter account. Some of the tweets are absolutely hilarious. If I had to guess, I would say he was tweeting while incredibly drunk because most of them don't make any sense. My favorites: - Plea #1 - TMI? - Uhhh...very confused... - Could he really be that poor? - Yes, yes he could be There are so many more gems on there if you peruse the page. Enjoy.

In CitiField's short two year history, I have attended 15 games. I have seen zero wins. As painful as it may be, I decided to keep a log of the games I attend until I see my first win at the ballpark. This is what I have so far of my painful and heart wrenching accounts at CitiField. Mike Glover...shades of what could/should have been...

As I post this, a single tear rolls down my cheek. Mike Glover, former Seton Hall recruit, dropped 39 points and 14 rebounds in a 94-85 victory for his Iona Gaels over the Canisius Golden Griffins last night. Glover, who came into Seton Hall in the same recruiting class as Jeremy Hazell, couldn't fix his off the court/in the classroom issues in time to play for the Pirates. After transferring to two different schools, he's finally landed at Iona, eligible and ready to play. In 7 games this season, Glover is averaging 20.4 PPG and 9 RPG with three double-doubles. These kinds of performances from the 6-7 Bronx, NY native can only leave Pirate fans scratching their heads and wondering what could, and maybe should have been if Glover was able to fix his issues three years ago.

Gonzo set for one year pretrial intervention program

Well, if you were sick of hearing Bobby Gonzalez's name...you aren't alone. I think we all collectively want to purge Gonzo from our memory, but for now we have some more news on the ex-Pirate coach. The Essex County prosecutor is saying he will have to go through 50 hours of community service and pay restitution for stealing the man pur...uhhh, satchel. If he successfully completes his intervention program for one year, his charges will be dismissed.

AOL Fanhouse: TCU to join Big East in 2012

Texas Christian University will hold a 2 PM EST press conference today to announce that it will join the Big East Conference in all sports beginning in the 2012-13 season. TCU's addition brings the total to nine football programs and 17 basketball programs in the Big East. Adding a 17th team in an already packed basketball conference is madness, but adding a team of TCU's caliber will certainly make the Big East more enticing in regards to football. A football invitation was also extended to Villanova in an attempt to bring the total football programs to an even 10. This is definitely a more important move to further the legitimacy of Big East football, but it holds major basketball relevance as well. TCU is currently part of the Mount West Conference, which is no slouch itself. The MWC boasts two Top 25 teams this year in BYU and San Diego St., as well as the always dangerous (but not ranked) UNLV. And baseball? The Horned Frogs will probably stack multiple conference championships with great ease. Smart move for TCU, but will this negatively or positively affect Big East basketball?
