Long Ding's Twitter Account is EPIC
Dap to Adam for the re-tweet earlier, made my evening. I hope we find a way to keep this guy. This may seriously be Gene Smith's best acquisition, even if he never sees the field.
Not sure if pointing out other people's Twitter accounts is kosher here, but this is a worthy reason to sign up to Twitter if you haven't yet. Okay, that may be a slight exaggeration but I need the 75.
Stay Savvy Long Ding
Can we stop with the BAP stuff now?
After watching this draft, it became pretty apparent that need trumps BAP. Vic was great for Jaguar fans, made a lot of us a lot more discerning than we otherwise would have been. But let's face it, Vic's lessons were often outdated shortly after they were conveyed. Remember Salary Cap 101? We learned all about the salary cap (though it should be noted that the information at the time was sound) right before it became irrelevant as teams like the Colts and Cowboys figured out how to beat it by future amortization. Good info, bad timing.
Sadly, that's a metaphor for the majority of Vic's lessons. Check your mug, how much of that is true today? This is not a knock on Vic, as I mentioned above, he elevated the understanding of this [once] great game for many of us. But there is a new world order at play here, and it's time for Jaguar fans to evolve.
"Run the ball, stop the run;" "Receivers are a dime a dozen;" "Picks not...I can't remember exactly what he said about draft picks and their supreme importance but I'm fairly certain it's dated.
BAP is no longer the Savvy way to approach the draft. The Savvy teams target a player and then go get him.
Who Are Wayne Weaver's Advisor's?
Let me first state that I totally understand what Wayne Weaver is trying to accomplish and I believe his intentions are coming from a great place...but who is this man surrounding himself with? Doesn't someone in his inner circle have the ability to waive the "let's slow down a little, big guy" flag in this man's face?
It began with the notion that it would be a great idea to lead the NFL pack in being the flagship team to start the "we won't give it away for free" movement. I get the business side of the story, but where was the PR birdie whispering something along the lines of "hey Wayne, we are small market team with a brand new fan base and lagging fan support. Other teams are in the same boat fan-wise. Let's wait for some other teams to join us in instilling the 'every game will be blacked out unless the fans buy tickets' motto and not be a solitary lightning rod for criticism."
The year after the 2009 blackout debacle, like 4 other teams did exactly what the Jags did and blacked out almost all of their games and no one noticed. Why did no one notice? Because everyone was busting on the Jags for 2009 even though 2010 was a record year. Get it? We had a record year...and no one (barely) noticed. Other teams were blacked out using the Jag's 2009 model ...and...no one (barely) noticed. All because the Jags decided to be Lewis and Clark on the home game blackout front. We are still fighting that battle.
Enter the Live Chat. Brilliant. Again, I get the idea that he was going for - let's be as accessible as possible to our fans. But less than a day later, no one is talking about how "accessible" the Jags brass is to the fan base. Everyone is talking about how Weaver is admitting the Jags are going to be non-contenders for at least 2 more years and our owner is begging the residents to buy tickets so the big bad national media won't make fun of us and huwrt ow feewings. I mean, damn man, get a clue. And nice 50 typos, btw. It looks like dude can't even write a sentance [sic].
Once again, I am a Wayne Weaver fan and appreciate and respect the fact that he is damn near, if not the, sole reason we even have a team. As a fan, I will always be grateful. But someone needs to tell this man to stay down for a bit or at the very least, think about what the hell he's saying and doing and how it's going to be perceived when it inevitably gets picked up and ridiculed.
As you can tell, I'm tired of being the black sheep fan at my local sports bar. It doesn't have to be that way. We've got a great team and great fans (and even a great owner when he doesn't have his flame thrower out). I just think our owner makes some silly decisions that are, quite frankly, easy to avoid.

Ask Vic coffee mug?
Anyone know where to get an Ask Vic coffee mug? I'm feeling nostalgic with the live chat today and I 'd like to finally get one of the mugs that I've kicked around getting for all these years. Don't know where to find them though, I didn't see em in the Jags store section. Preciate the help from anyone who knows. I promise I won't stick it in the dishwasher...

Poor, poor McGowen
I was just thinking about how horrible a year McCown has had. I mean this guy is 100% snakebit. Think about it, he has an amazing pre-season game, he steps and creates the rumblings of a potential QB controversy; finally gets a chance to shine and see his name in lights...only to suffer the indignity of having his name butchered by the tv graphics department.
McGowen is born. And unless you have a really good sense of humor, being saddled with a moniker that solidifies you as an unknown nobody on a national level has got to be a bummer - especially when that is the only real lasting result of your great night.
Fast forward to game 2. Every back up QB wants that shot in a live action game and McCown gets his handed to him on a silver platter. Garrard gets yanked with a vengence by the coaching staff and McCown is given the opportunity of a life time - the wet dream of a back up. He steps in and appears to make the most of it with an effective drive and the potential to do what no Jags player has done on the west coast in far too long...get in the end zone. What happens? Snap! Season over, smell ya later Mush.
I mean damn, I want to send the guy a fruit basket or something.
Passing the Blackout Baton...
Looks like the Charges are headed down a road that is all too familiar for Jaguars fans. It's a tad more than slightly ironic that the Jaguars are expecting to sellout the first group of home games this year, but their first away game could be the catalyst for a season of blackouts for San Diego. Jacksonville is, of course, the Chargers first home game...which is likely to be blacked out.
Where is that guy who was all over the boards a month ago spouting that San Diego didn't have ticket selling problems?
One of the best Vic-isms in a while...
Matt from Reno, NV
Yesterday you mentioned the team psychologist. What exactly does the psychologist do? Sounds like another interesting aspect of football the average fan does not know much about.
Vic: The psychologist asks you if you like your mother. If you say no, he asks you if you like your father. If you say no, he asks you if you like anybody. If you say no to that, he recommends to the coach that your play time be increased.
