More Gruden Thoughts
I posted the rumor earlier but I had some more thoughts was wondering what you all thought.
First of all I will support this team to the bitter end. I hope Kragthorpe works out for the sake of stability and to keep us from even needing a coaching search. However IF Kragthorpe should happen to leave next year I think Jon Gruden would be awesome if we could get him. This might be a crazy pipedream (Like UK's Parcells dream a few years back) but hey a guy can dream can't he? Anyways here is why i think Gruden would be a good fit for us:
1. Offense: Gruden loves Offense and we love Offense in the Ville.
2. Chance at the Big Time: Big East is weak, he could dominate and make this his legacy while having chance at National Championship
3. Coaching Style: Gruden was critized for being too hard on his players in Tamp Bay clearly his leadership style fits better in college rather than the NFL (Ala Rick Pitino)
4. Connections: His brother, Jay, was QB for Louisville
5. Low Expectations: Kragthorpe had it hard, followed the most sucessful coach ever at Louisville, Gruden will take over a program in disarray and any progress will be seen as good
If Gruden learns the Spread he could be really sucessful in college and I would imagine Louisville would be one of the best college jobs to open next year (Expectations, good facilities, etc)
The only three schools I could see him going to over us would be Notre Dame, Florida State or Miami. And the only one of those schools I think might open after next year is Miami.
What do you guys think?
Jon Gruden Learning Spread?
Longtime reader but this is my first post. Ran across this on SI.com's rumor section....call it a pipe dream
More than two weeks since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired Jon Gruden, his alarm still buzzes at 3:17 a.m. Time to go to work. "You have to keep trying to get better," Gruden said. His old desk at One Buc Place is now occupied by Raheem Morris, but the only coach to lead the franchise to a Super Bowl championship has a new place to hole up in the dark. It's at the St. Pete Times Forum downtown, where Tampa Bay Storm Coach Tim Marcum of the Arena Football League has given Gruden an office complete with all the computer equipment needed to engage in his passion of breaking down tape. The man has a new mission (and it's not to lower his golf handicap). "I want to learn the spread offense," Gruden said. "This is exciting for me." Whether that means Gruden's next job ??? and he'll definitely have one ??? will be in college or the NFL is anyone's guess.
