How to Fix Ohio State Football in Five Easy Steps

60

Here is how to fix Ohio State football in five easy steps

Plus 1 (Or More): Hall, Herron, & Posey Suspended for Nebraska Game

55

In what has become a common scene in the continuing parade of terribles in Columbus, Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith took to the podium this afternoon to announce that three players - offensive lineman Marcus Hall, running back Dan Herron and receiver DeVier Posey - have been suspended for Saturday's game at Nebraska for accepting improper benefits for a job they worked. It is another square roundhouse kick to the face of the embattled program, although Smith maintained his confidence that the latest in a seemingly never-ending string of violations would not result in a Lack of Institutional Control or Failure to Monitor Allegation. Smith characterized the violations as an "individual" not a "systematic" problem. We'll see. Meanwhile, players like Carlos Hyde are openly criticizing the coaching staff, defensive starters are complaining about the offenses' impotence, reports are swirling of internal strife in the lockerroom, Linebackers Coach Mike Vrabel and Offensive Coordinator Jim Bollman are allegedly getting into confrontations, and Luke Fickell's in-game decision-making is getting skewered all over the web. As our colleagues at Along the Olentangy summarize: "The coaching staff has forced Miller into a pro-style offense, bludgeoning his athleticism and inexperience into a natural, experienced passer's hole. The routes being run-- square-ins, deep posts, fades-- are vestiges of Ohio State's 2010 playbook, and they reveal an offensive staff unable to adjust. Terrelle Pryor, now an Oakland Raider, rarely threw these routes his first two seasons, yet the Buckeye coaches somehow deem Miller capable." Ladies and Gentlemen, the wheels are coming off in Columbus. The only good news for Buckeye fans? The decision to fire Fickell at the end of the season and bring in an experienced leader is getting easier by the day.

Be Careful What You Wish For in Conference Realignment

With the latest development that SEC presidents have unaminiously approved Texas A&M's application for membership, it's clear that a small religious school in Waco, Texas is the only thing standing between college football as we know it and a brave new world.

ATTENTION FELLOW PROGNOSTICATORS It's come to our attention that the original Yahoo! Sports Pick'Em Off Tackle Empire Group is full. What can I say? B1G fans travel well. To accommodate our readers who still want to get in on the action, we've created an OPC overflow group. To join, do the following: 1. Head over to Yahoo! Fantasy Sports, and click on the "Join a Group" link. The Group ID for the Off Tackle Empire overflow group is 20129 and the password is still "sherman" 2. Create a name for your predictions set (I recommend just using your SB Nation handle), and make and submit your predictions for Week 1 five minutes before the start of the first listed game. I will combine the results of the OPC 1 and OPC 2 groups and create a Top 20 list as the season progresses. Happy Hunting.

The Obligatory Predictions Competition - Week 1

61

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time to kickoff the fourth-annual Obligatory Predictions Competition. For those of you that are new around these parts, each year we host a season-long predictions contest for bragging rights. In the past, we've run things entirely in house, but (in light of the competition's popularity) we're going to do things a little differently in 2011.

No, really Purdue fans. It's good news..

17

Okay, okay. We get it. Lately some of our readers from West Lafayette have been, ahem, a little disappointed in our lack of Purdue coverage. That's about to change faster than a Danny Hope depth chart in August. Baboreally, of BT Powerhouse fame, has generously offered to come on board as our resident Boilermaker. Baboreally is a graduate of Purdue University who was lucky enough to be there for the Brees years. He currently lives in Southern Indiana. 2011 Closing Arguments - Illinois

31

Gone are Mikel Leshoure, Corey Liuget, Clay Nurse, Martez Wilson, Nate Bussey, Jarred Fayson, and Eddie McGee, but there's reason to believe that maybe, just maybe, the 2011 Illini have got what it takes to shake things up a bit in the Leaders Division.

The B1G Five - Evaluating Big Ten Teams in the Preseason Top 25

Fear not friends. I'm not about to unveil another Top 25. All I want to do is take a look at where B1G teams landed, for better or worse.

OSU "Admits" That Football Program is Very Successful

7

The Ohio State University filed its answer to ESPN's petition for a writ of mandate in the Supreme Court of Ohio today. In the midst of a sea of denials, one concession stands out: "In response to paragraph 3 of the complaint, Ohio State admits that its student football program has been very successful over the years." I wonder if they'll ask the Court to take judicial notice of that fact.

No One Is Right 100 Percent of the Time - Thoughts on the Ohio State Case

103

Based on what we, and the NCAA, knows right now, Ohio State's self-imposed sanctions are hardly a symbolic slap on the wrist.

Was Yesterday the Biggest Day in College Football Since June 12, 2010?

If you, like me, are the kind of college football fan that lives for seismic rumors and potential paradigm shifts Wednesday had a little bit of everything.

Sparty, Yes.

As if Michigan State didn't get enough flack this offseason, we made it worse by lacking a Spartan authority. No longer. MSULaxer27 is now on board as our MSU guru. Our newest contributor was born and raised on Long Island. He attended MSU after a seven year stint in the Army. While at MSU he played lacrosse and wore number 27, hence the handle. He graduated with a B.S. in accounting in 2000 after celebrating an NCAA basketball championship in Cedar Village with 14,000 of his closest friends. He currently resides in Alabama. In many ways, 2001 to 2010 was a golden era in Columbus. But like all great dynasties, all good things must end. The leadership is gone. The seniority is suspended. In its place is a pantheon of uncertainty.
