Recap: Dynamo Unable To Break Through Portland, Draw 0-0
The Houston Dynamo and Portland Timbers played to a 0-0 draw on Tuesday in the first night game at BBVA Compass Stadium. The Dynamo, playing their third game in seven days, had several chances in the second half but could not produce a game-winning goal. Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall recorded his second consecutive shutout and fourth shutout of the season.
Houstons best chance came in the 87th minute when midfielder Calen Carr broke free behind the Portland defense but Timbers goalkeeper Troy Perkins saved his shot from the top of the box.
Perkins was up to the task 20 minutes earlier as he used his right leg to stop a low shot from Luiz Camargo, who had slipped in alone into the box and drilled a shot from 12 yards.
Defender Corey Ashe made his 137th MLS regular season appearance for the Dynamo. With the start, he surpassed Brian Mullan and Pat Onstad to reach second on the Dynamo franchise list.
Defender Geoff Cameron played his 140th game in all competitions for the Dynamo to move into a tie with Wade Barrett for seventh on the franchise list.
For the second consecutive home game, the Dynamo controlled the majority of the chances. After a season-high 20 shots in Saturdays 1-0 win, the Orange delivered 18 shots for an 18-9 shot advantage over the Timbers. Houston had a 7-2 edge in shots on goal, and a season-best 59% of possession.
The Dynamo stand at 3-3-3 (12 points) on the year while the Timbers are 2-5-3 (9 points).
The Dynamo return to the pitch for their fourth game in 11 days on Saturday at New England. The Dynamo will face the Revolution at 6:30 p.m. CT from Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. The match can be viewed on KPRC Local 2 and can be heard on SportsTalk 790 AM and La Ranchera 850 AM.

Dynamo Vs. Timbers: Quick Preview
The Dynamo opened their new downtown stadium in grand style on Saturday, with original Dynamo player and all-time games played leader Brad Davis delivering the game-winning goal, a sensational 30-yard bending strike into the upper corner of the net for a 1-0 win over D.C. United.
Houston is 3-3-2 (11 points) after the win. The Timbers are 2-5-2 (8 points) after a 0-0 home draw against the Columbus Crew on May 5. Portland head coach John Spencer was an assistant coach with the Dynamo from 2006-10 before taking over the Timbers in 2011. The Timbers roster also features two former Houston Dynamo players, midfielder Lovel Palmer and defender Mike Chabala, who were sent to Portland in exchange for midfielder Adam Moffat.
The Dynamo defeated the Timbers in both meetings with the expansion club in 2011. Houston won 2-1 at Robertson Stadium on Aug. 14 and secured a vital 2-0 road win on Oct. 14.
Tonight’s weather should be cool and wet in Houston, which should support Portland’s style of play. However, Houston will hold home field advantage in what should be a very exciting game. This will be the first ever night game at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Full Time: Dynamo Open BBVA Compass Stadium In Style, Beat DC United 1-0
Dynamo win!
It wasn’t the prettiest game, but all that counts is the final score of 1-0 with the Dynamo coming out on top. Brad Davis’ strike in the 67th minute was difference between the two side, but Dynamo fans are just happy to finally have a place of their own to call home.
More commentary coming after player interviews and coach’s press conference.
67' - Brad Davis Strike Breaks The Deadlock
Brad Davis struck the Dynamo into the lead with a shot from distance in the 67th minute to give the Houston Dynamo the lead over DC United. Davis collected the ball about 30 yards from goal, drove in on his left foot and struck a wonderful shot that Bill Hamid got his hands to but found the back of the net.
That’s the goal that should wake Houston’s crowd up a bit.
Half Time: Dynamo and DC All Even At 0-0
It’s been a bit of a tepid affair here in Houston for the opener of BBVA Compass Stsdium. The Dynamo have had the better of the chances but neither team has found the back of the net.
The Dynamo have looked most dangerous from corner kicks, nearly scoring the game’s opening goal towards the end half. DC United nearly broke multiple times on counter attacks, but the Dynamo defense has been fairly tight and Tally Hall has had a quiet afternoon.
Expect a bit more of the same in the second half, but Houston could capitalize on the injury of Perry Kitchen, who left the game with a knee injury.

MLS Commissioner Punishes Clark For Slur, Midfielder Fined And Suspended For Three Games
This afternoon, Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber announced the punishment for Colin Clark’s use of a gay slur towards a ball boy.
Commissioner Garber has suspended Clark for three games and fined him an undisclosed amount for using unacceptable and offensive language towards a ball boy in the seventh minute of the game in Seattle on Friday, March 24. Clark will also be forced to attend diversity and sensitivity training. This is in addition to the training that all MLS clubs attend at the beginning of each season.
“Major League Soccer will not tolerate this type of behavior from its players or staff at any time, under any circumstances,” MLS Commissioner Don Garber said. “Colin Clark has expressed sincere remorse for his actions and I believe that he will learn from this incident.”
This is the first time in memory where something like this has happened in Major League Soccer, so Clark’s punishment is likely to be a precedent-setting decision.
What do you think about the punishment? Do you think it is too little or too much?

58' - Golazo! Danny Cruz Doubles Dynamo Lead With 30-Yard Strike
Danny Cruz, Houston’s 21-year-old right midfielder cut inside to his (weak) left foot against his former teammate Mike Chabala, 30 yards from goal and fired in a strike past Troy Perkins to double Houston’s lead to 2-0. Chabala gave Cruz plenty of space, which the midfielder quickly exploited to give Houston a goal out of nothing.
36' - Goal: Andre Hainault Gives Houston A 1-0 Lead
Dynamo defender Andre Hainault gave Houston a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute after heading a Brad Davis free kick into the back of the net. Davis took the free kick just a few yards from the edge of the box and swung in the kick to Hainault who headed it near post.
There will be a bit of controversy about the goal, which came against the run of play, because Timbers midfielder Sal Zizzo was off the field receiving medical attention for a leg injury.
Regardless, the Dynamo have a 1-0 lead with just about 10 minutes to go in the first half.

12' - Things Are Getting Chippy
We’re almost a quarter of an hour in tonight’s match between the Houston Dynamo and Portland Timbers and things are getting a bit chippy. The Dynamo took control of the first few moments of the match before committing a series of fouls that seemed to tip the advantage to the Timbers,
Neither team has managed a decent look at goal, but that looks likely to change before too long.
