Hello there, faithful Raiders fans.  My name is Jordan and I hail from Battle Red Blog.

Consider this fan post as a Q&A about the Houston Texans.  Feel free to leave any questions or commentaries below.

As Screwfish mentioned over at our blog, our teams seem to face each other every year now.  As a result, we're becoming pretty familiar with each others strengths and weaknesses.  But every year is different.

I caught a little bit of the Raiders-Patriots game last week and I was rooting for your beloved team to win.  Even though it resulted in a loss, it was still a valiant effort.  Run DMC is definitely one of the best running backs in the league so this match up scares the heck out of me.  Denarius Moore is looking like a steal for y'all as well.

Good luck to y'all and let's hope for an injury-free game between our beloved teams.  I truly believe that the Raiders are going to bounce back and win the AFC west.  But not this week!

Battle Red Blog Adventures in Fantasy Football Land

Arian_foster_dallas_cowboys_v_houston_texans_slzm0pzeuf_l_medium

I tried doing this last year, but I'm a lazy bum and ended up only doing one of these.  But the purpose of this fanpost is to provide a place for people to discuss anything related to fantasy football.  Who to sit/start, best waiver wire pick ups, match-ups to exploit and etc.

We all know that you can survive a horrible draft by being active on the waiver wire. There are plenty of players out there that can supplant your under-performing starters.  Here are some that you should take note of, or consider picking up if you want to solidify your bench.

QB

Kyle Orton

Andy Dalton

Mark Sanchez

Rex Grossman

Matt Hasselbeck

Sam Bradford

None of these players are worthy of being the only QB on your roster, but the bye weeks are just around the corner and these guys will be gone quick. If you wanna get a jump on the competition, or you just wanna be a douche, pick one of them up.  If you have a starting QB that you don't think will put up good numbers this coming Sunday, I'd go with Andy Dalton.  He's a rookie, I know.  But he and A.J. Green are starting to get into the swing of things. He also has a very reliable target in Jermaine Gresham.

RB

Kendall Hunter

Isaac Redman

Bernard Scott

Michael Bush

Stevan Ridley

With Frank Gore banged up and Cedric Benson suspended, you can expect Kendall Hunter and Bernard Scott to carry the full load for their respective teams. Redman and Bush are flex starts at best, but I would go with Bush if you're thinking about starting a RB in place of your under-performing starter(I'm looking at you Mendenhall and CJ1.5YPC).

WR

Torrey Smith

Victor Cruz

David Nelson

Eric Decker

Nate Washington

If you weren't able to put a waiver wire claim for Torrey Smith on Sunday night, then you've probably missed out on him already.  That's what you get for being so damn slow.  Only reason that I have Nate Washington here is because of Kenny Britt's season ending injury(BFD is out there somewhere crying his heart out). He's been a reliable target for Hasselbeck.  And now that Britt is gone, expect his targets to increase by a handful.  Will he step in and put up the same numbers as Britt?  No way.  But the opportunity is there.

TE

Scott Chandler

Jeff King

Fred Davis

Greg Olsen

James Casey

Casey's gone for sure.  But Olsen are Davis are sure to be there.  Unless you have Jermichael Finley, Owen Daniels, Vernon Davis or Jimmy Graham, you should be looking at match ups instead of playing the same TE every week.  Best 2 out of that list would be Greg Olsen and Fred Davis. The Eagles and The Bears are giving up tons of points to TE's, so expect a double digit day from both.

DEF

Atlanta

Minnesota

Tampa Bay

Just like with the TE position, you play this by match up.  Atlanta is going against a flimsy Seattle team, Minnesota is going against a KC team that's having trouble putting up points, and Tampa Bay is going against a Painter-led Colts

If you have any tips out there, or if you're looking for advice, use the comments section below.

Canal Street Chronicles Ask Battle Red Blog: The Unofficial Q&A about the Houston Texans

Hello Saints fans.

Carr5xi_medium

Look at Drew Brees.  Now back to me.  /swings hair back and forth

Now back at Drew Brees.  Now back to me. /puts on gloves and does the "jazz hands"

Sadly, he isn't me.  But if he stopped throwing with accuracy and starts to crawl into fetal position in every offensive snap, he can start looking like me.

Look down. Back up.  Where are you?  You're on a boat.  With a pretty looking QB that your QB can look like.

What's in your hand?  Back at me.  I have it.  It's an oyster with two tickets to the Houston Texans Vs. New Orleans Saints game this coming Sunday.  Look again.  The tickets are now diamonds.  Anything is possible when your QB looks like David Carr and not a QB that's on the decline.  I'm on the turf.

The Phinsider Ask Battle Red Blog: The Unofficial Q&A about the Houston Texans

Kerry-collins-indianapolis-colts-vs-houston-texans_medium

What's up, Dolfans.  My name is Jordan(n) and I hail from Battle Red Blog.

/waves like a retard

It's about that time again where our beloved Houston Texans are slated to face off against your Miami Dolphins this coming weekend.  I know that everybody's aware that the Texans record against the Dolphins is a stellar 5-0, making the Texans the bane of your existence

If it makes you feel any better, there's still no legitimate proof that our secondary is much more improved than last year's under-achieving(Read: Sucktastic) unit.

But our pass-rush is something to be afraid of.  All that talk about Mario Williams sucking at OLB is nothing but a propaganda fueled by opposing coaches in order to lull their starting quarterback in a false sense of security.  And our 1st rd draft pick, J.J. Watt(Mario Blanco, Honeybadger), ain't too bad either.

To continue the great rapport that we have going on with the Phinsider and fellow NFL fans, feel free to leave your questions about picking up a hookers, what brand of bleach you need to use for a specific occasion, beer, dating, and the Houston Texans in this fanpost.  I, along with other BRBer's, will try our best to answer them.

Looking forward to another exciting game this weekend against the Dolphins.  Go Texans!

Battle Red Blog Saturday Night Tunes (Sunday Edition)

Hey there folks.

Since BFD is too old to even keep this up, I figured that i'd breathe i some new life to this series.

Fan of Rise Against?  Did you get the new album?  Pretty good shit right?  I received a copy of the album the night before and had access to the whole album weeks before the release, so I already knew that it was gonna be good. It's definitely an ode to their new found sound, but there's a couple of tracks that bass-driven for the fans of the old stuff.

Here's one of my favorite tracks off of the new album:

Satellite - Rise Against from new album endgame 2011 (via Uprising96)

It's a fucking good song.  Great lyrics as well.

Besides Rise Against, i've been listening to a lot of Old 97's lately after seeing them live a month back.  They were great as usual.

Old 97's - Time Bomb (Live on KEXP) (via kexpradio)

If you're from Texas, you know who they are.  If not, the lead singer is Rhet Miller.  Don't know who Rhet Miller is? GTFO

The bands that opened for the Old 97's in their last leg of the tour were pretty good too.  One that caught my eye in particular was Those Darlins.  Didn't like them at first but they grew on me.  The band consists of three hot chicks.  They have a dirty Nashville, reckless punk rock sound to them so if you're into that, you should check them out.  They played at SXSW and will be playing at Free Press Summerfest this coming June.

Those Darlins--Fun Stix Party (via kingofthecastle7)

Wanna share what you've been listening to lately?  You're free to do so below.

Battle Red Blog Fantasy Baseball?  Anyone?

Last year, we had a BRB Fantasy Baseball League going.  It was pretty fun.  You know, something to do until football started.  I can't tell you who won or whatever, but there was a lot of good ole trash talking going on between everybody.

I already asked Rivers if he was going to run another league this year, but he's pretty busy dealing with a lot of stuff.  He also said that he would join if somebody started one.

So is anybody willing to get a fantasy baseball league started?

If there are no takers, i'll go ahead and get a league going.  But i'd rather not.

If you're interested in running or joining the league, use the comments section below to voice your interest.

Battle Red Blog Adventures in Fantasy Football Land

I was trying to do this every Friday but it never works out the way I see it in my head.  It's only Saturday though so im not that late.

Lemme get the ball rolling once again:

I managed to win by 20 points in the BRB2 Fantasy Football League and lost by a couple of points in the BRB1 League.  Damn you Reggie Wayne and Matt Hasselidontgiveafuckabouttpyingyourlastnamecorrectlybeck.

Starting Blount in BRB2 proved to be the difference.  Will he put up the same numbers this week against an Atlanta team that knows how to stop the run?  With my RB depth in this league being thin, I figured to start Blount once again and replace Benson with Tolbert.  Good idea or bad idea?

I've started Mike Williams(TB) every week since the beginning of the season.  He's a serviceable WR3, but I figured that i'd give Steven Johnson and Dwayne Bowe a shot.  Neither of those two players topped 10 points last week while Williams managed to score 15 points.  He's definitely a must start this week, but along with who?  I have Mike Wallace, Dwayne Bowe, Steve Johnson and Marques Colston to choose from.  Leaning towards Bowe and Johnson because Colston is going against Richard Marshall or Chris Gamble this week.

Even with a foot injury last week, Antonio Gates still managed to score 18 points.  I wasn't planning on starting him this week anyway because of my fandom over fantasy motto.  I picked up Benjamin Watson and figured that he'd be a good enough replacement for the rest of the season if Gates is not able to recover from his Plantar Fajitas.  Good choice?  Or should I have picked up Shockey instead?

Well, that's about it for me.  Having trouble deciding on who to sit/start this week? Post your questions in the comment section and im pretty sure that somebody's gonna help you decide or at least give you some advice.

Silver And Black Pride Ask Battle Red Blog: The Unofficial Q&A about the Houston Texans

Nfl_houston_texans_f635_medium

Hey there folks, the name is Jordann and I hail from Battle Red Blog.

I know some people are still hung over from the past weekend, and some people just want to forget about it altogether.  So let's all look ahead to this weekend's match up!

Last year's match up was a great one, we all had high hopes for our respective teams and it definitely gave us a better look at what damage each team an do for the rest of the regular season.

Every time I see a game against The Raiders in my calendar,  I always mark it as a loss.  Because their secondary matches up well with our passing offense.  I would love to see Andre Johnson have a big game, but we all know that he's facing one of the best CB's in the league so the chances are small.

To get the ball rolling, I have a couple of questions for you Raider faithfuls.

-How's the secondary?  As you all know, ours was exposed last sunday against the Southern Oklahoma Cowboys.  Roy Williams caught two TD's. ROY WILLIAMS MAN.

-Who is the true WR1 in your receiving corps?  I really thought that this was the year that Chaz Schillens(sp?) would take over because of his size and respectable speed, but Louis Murphy looks like a better candidate.

-What is the strength of your offense?

-Who's the best player on offense and defense?

I hope this fan post serves as a great medium for both teams to get to know each other.  A similar one was posted in our blog by noontide so feel free to come by any time if you have any questions.

Thanks guys!  And lets both hope for an injury-free game this Sunday.  Go Texans!

Niners Nation An Open Letter To Niners Fans From A (former)David Carr Apologist

How's it going guys.  My name is Jordann and I hail from Battle Red Blog.  Yes, I am a Texans fan.  And yes, I do feel your pain.

I moved to SF about three months ago and the first thing i've noticed are all the 49ers billboards spread through out town.  I don't really have anything against the 49ers, and for the past four years i've actually found myself cheering for them more than usual.  After being bombarded by the advertisements and television programs for the past three months, i've taken a liking to the Niners.

Now that i've gotten the introductions out of the way, i'll get straight to the point.  When the "Fire Alex Smith" bandwagon rolls in, PLEASE don't hop on the "Start David Carr" bandwagon.  I understand the frustration because i've watched all three games this season and i've rooted for the Niners in all three of them.  Alex Smith is NOT that bad compared to David Carr.

As you know, The Texans drafted David Carr with their first overall pick in 2002(SHOULD'VE DRAFTED PEPPERS).  When you start for an expansion team, it's obvious that the odds are stacked against you.  And a lot of fans understood that.  We needed to supply him with an O-line that can give him time to throw, Receivers to throw to, and a running game to keep the defense honest.  Year in, year out, I (along with thousands of fans) would make excuses for David Carr. Every RB dump off(there were tons of them) would be blamed on the lack of receiving talent.  Every sack and interception would be attributed to the horrible O-line play and the lack of running game.

But every year, the Texans would do something to fix those problems that are stated above.  As the team improved, the franchise QB did not. But even then, you can still find me squeezing out excuses for David Carr's lack of production/awareness/intangibles/ability.

Enter Gary Kubiak.  In his fourth season in the league,  David Carr had the honor of working with Coach Kubiak.  You know, the same guy that worked with Shanahan and HOF John Elway.  Many of us viewed this as a franchise saving move.  If anybody can turn Carr into a legitimate starting QB in the NFL, it would be Kubiak.

When you make a mistake, or when you put a ton of eggs in one basket; it's hard to admit that you're wrong. David Carr had his best season wearing a Texans uniform(or an NFL uniform for that matter).  He started all 16 games completing 302/442 passes for a 68.3 completion percentage.  He also sported a career best 82.1 QB rating.  Being the Carr Apologist that I was, I chose to ignore the fact that he threw 12 interceptions compared to 11 touchdowns with a 6.3 YPA.  All's well in Mittensville until news broke that the Texans traded two 2nd RD draft picks to the Falcons for Michael Vick's back up,  Matt Schaub.  This move confused me because I thought that David Carr still had some potential and would continue to grow under Kubiak next season.  A couple of days later,  David Carr was cut.  And I was shocked.

What did the Texans see in this back up QB that made them cut their franchise QB that got a contract extension a year(or a couple) ago?

Fast forward to 2010 when everything was already clear.  Schaub turned out to be the better QB, and David Carr couldn't even beat Matt Moore and Old Man Testaverde for the starting job in Carolina.

TL;DNR

David Carr is not the answer to your QB woes.  I've received numerous texts and facebook updates from Niners fans saying that Smith should be benched or to start David Carr.  Unless you like your QB to overthrow receivers, dump to RB's when receivers are open, try to run for a first down on 3rd and 15, hold on to the ball too long and drop in fetal position when the opposing team is blitzing.  If that is your cup of tea, then by all means; call for David Carr to start.  But if you want to avoid the same heartbreak that I(along with thousands of Texans fans) went through, it's better to give Alex Smith a chance and just look for a viable replacement in the coming draft.

Battle Red Blog O/T: I Win.

Some of you know that i've made a move to the west coast.  Im enjoying it so far.  My main bitching point was that I can't find a place that sells Shiner Bock or any beer from the Shiner family over here.

So I went to my friendly Target last week and special ordered some Shiner Black.  They said they'll do the best they can and I told em that that's all im asking for.

Earlier today, I get a call from the back door manager saying that my shipment has arrived!

T829mc_medium

FUCK YEAH!  Although it wasn't the Shiner Black that I requested, it's still a Shiner beer!  And they ordered a pallet for me! (half six pack, half 12 pack) I told them that I vow to buy a six pack every week and a 12 pack every weekend so they don't send back the whole pallet that was misshipped to their store.

And guess how much it's costing me for a six pack?

Nd0cg2_medium

My camera phone sucks but that says $6.87.  That's fucking cheaper than over there in Houston!

Just wanted to share it with you guys!

Battle Red Blog Fantasy Football Thread

We had a couple of these going last season so I figured that I(or anybody else) would get one going every week for this season too.

If you have any questions regarding "who to start" and "who to sit", just ask away in this fanpost.  Though nobody here is considered a fantasy expert, you can just listen to several people's opinions to help you make a better decision.

To get things rolling, here's my FF question.

I have Drew Brees as my QB in one of my leagues and picked up Vick off the waivers.  Though im not sure that Vick will start in place of Kolb, he's projected to score 20+ points this coming weekend against the Lions.  That's about seven more points that Drew freaking Brees against SF.  So should I take a risk and start Vick?  Or just stay with Brees eventhough he might disaapoint like he did last week?

Battle Red Blog Football Fans Unite!

The regular season is in full swing.  Thousands of hours are spent discussing week one match ups and how well or horrible our teams will fare in that first game of the season.  Millions of dollars are already spent buying tickets, team apparel and tailgating equipment/supplies(beer).

This is our way of showing how much we love the game of football.  It has become a part of our being and it has dictated the way we have lived our lives for years.

So how would you feel if you found out that there won't be another season of football next year?

I know it sounds horrible, but it's definitely a reality we could be facing if the NFL and the NFLPA are not able to work out a new deal that can benefit both parties.  Both sides are too busy looking out for themselves, but they're forgetting one thing.

The fans.

Im not going to bother you with the details, but here's the gist of it.  THEY ARE FIGHTING FOR OUR MONEY.

It seems like a long shot or a lot of work, but we DO have a say in this. We DO have the power to affect these negotiations.  A say in how things should turn out to be. We CAN make a difference.

The fans are the staple of every single NFL team out there.  Football wouldn't be as big and NFL would not be as successful as it is without us, the fans.

Im not much of a thinking man(or a writing man for that matter), but I do have plenty of passion for this sport. And I know that you do as well.  We need to come together and let our voices be heard.

We need to create a union for the fans so we can keep this important facet of our life from drowning in the bottomless pit of greed.

We can dictate the future of our sport.

Battle Red Blog BRB FFL 2

Alright guys, here's the thing.

We have two BRB FFL's going on.  One is already full.  But the second one with the regular scoring system is still missing 3 teams.  Last time I checked, there were already 12 teams playing, but whatever.

I know it's very last minute but the draft is in 8 hours (1:00 PM PDT, 3:00 PM Houston time) and we need three more teams.  So if you're interested in joining, the league ID is :  36738  and the password is: texans 2

It's a yahoo league so if you don't have a yahoo account, you might have to make one to join.

Battle Red Blog S. Rosenfels, Starting QB

Nfl_u_rosenfeis_580_medium

Yep. You read it right. But you understood it wrong.

That's the name of my team in the Jonathan Wells Memorial League, where picking a player with high levels of suck is more important than stats.  Im sure you've heard about it.

After seeing a post by Rivers in the front page, I was going to reply with my roster, but my team is far too grand to be washed away in the comments section. So I decided to write a fan post about it!

Rd 1 - Pick 4

Decided to go with Josh Freeman for my first pick.  Can't go wrong with a QB that doesn't know what he's doing out there!  Though I may have to pay for his tendency to run,  it might reward me with some fumbles too. Oh, and did you know that he play for the B(s)uc(k)s  So he's definitely worthy of my first pick.  It says that he's questionable to start the season, but that's what my back up QB is for!

Rd 2 - Pick 9

My initial thought was to draft Larry Johnson, but because I couldn't find him (too lazy) I went with a starter that's guaranteed to never have enough yards and touchdowns every season.  Laurence Maroney.  I dont remember the last time he rushed for 100yd/game and im pretty sure you don't either.  So if you drafted him this season, you're probably doing it wrong.

Rd 3 - Pick 4

I still couldn't find Larry Johnson so I decided to go with a safe(see; suck) pick. Marcedes Lewis. Seriously, when did you ever hear any news about Marcedes Lewis having a break out game. Or even scoring a touchdown.  Or even passing the 75 yd mark. Never. Sorry Loesche, I had to.

Rd 4 - Pick 9

You can never go wrong with a Bucaneers offensive player.  NEVER.  Especially now when it's looking like they have a legit long threat receiver in Mike Williams.  But when he's double covered, who would inexperienced Josh Freeman throw to?  His WR2. Maurice Stovall. And what are the chances of that ball getting intercepted.  Fairly high. So he's a great 4th rd pick.

Rd 5 - Pick 4

Without a draft strategy to go with, I decided to go through the list of players and go with the first person that sucks the most.  Matt Moore, come on right up!

Rd 6 - Pick 9

I needed another low quality receiver so the name Nate Burleson popped up in my head.  Unfortunately, Evan drafted him in Rd 5 so I had to scramble around to find this one.  Justin Gage.  My reasoning?  He plays for Methopotamia and the stench of incest in the air usually causes their wide recievers to suck.  Makes sense right?

Rd 7 - Pick 4

I started thinking about Prop 19, and how California will undoubtedly pass it this coming November.  And then I started thinking about those good ole days.  Then I started thinking about famous people who smokes.  Ricky Williams came up. So I drafted him.

Rd 8 - Pick 9

Steve Johnson.  Who is Steve Johnson?  Exactly.

Rd 9 - Pick 4

The Queen of Suck.  Master of the Fetal Position.  Winner of the NFL's Trendsetter of the Year award(2007,2008, 2009, and 2010).  Please welcome.  David "Mittens" Carr!

Rd 10 - Pick 9

Brian Hartline.  I don't know why.  But I have a feeling he'll suck it up this year. Sorry Dolphins fans.

Rd 11 - Pick 4

Another Jacksonville receiver. Mike Thomas.

Rd 12 - Pick 4

I needed a Kicker so I decided to go with Ryan Lindell.  Kris Brown was still available but I decided that being reminded about last season and how becoming an alcoholic is not the best career path is a bad thing.

Rd 13 - Pick 9

Sage Rosenfels.  Oh come on.  Like you didn't see that coming!

Rd 14 - Pick 4

Vikings back up RB.  Albert Young.  Im hoping that Purple Jesus tears an ACL or two so I can finaly win in my other FF Leagues.  And when that happens, im hoping that Albert Young shows us how much he sucks.

Rd 15 - Pick 9

Kevin Smith.  He plays for the Lions.

And that's it folks. The roster that will win the inagural Jonathan Wells Memorial League!

Seriously. I am. The first preseason game is almost upon us and I still don't know how the hell im going to watch the damn game!

I am fully aware that there's possibly some sites that are streaming it but what if I never find them? I don't wanna be stuck watching the damn Raiders or the 49ers Or like nolander; the Chargers.

So where can I find these streams? Im writing this fanpost in hopes that some of yall can provide me with a reliable stream of the game. Im not the only one that you're going to be helping out too so if you got something against me, think of al the other fans that don't live in Texas man!!

Yep, it's that time of the year again.

What's that you say? It's too early? Well, screw you guy! I do what I want!

Last season, TexansForever took home the gold by beating (insert opponent here)

Who's gonna win it this year? Not BFD, that's for sure.

Since Jake is nowhere to be found, We're going to need a new commish.

Any volunteers?

And if you want to sign up, just leave a comment in this thread so we can get a tally of who's in who's out.

Oh, and prepare to be trounced by The Rosenchoppers mwahahha!

This is a good write up by AJ from The Examiner. I know it was four days ago, I might be a little late on my Texans news but I figured that im not the only one who is.
