Is Brian Orakpo really the beast we think he is?
Now before anyone jumps on me, my answer is yes. However I wanted to start a little discusssion amongst my Redskins fans to discuss the possibility otherwise. We all cannot deny that he is a gifted athlete and cannot be considered any lower than a very good player, but he is not putting up the stats that we would all like to see.
Last year he had 11 sacks in his rookie season, when Albert was able to create some pressure along the line, and overall our defense line, unlike this year, did not have more more holes in it than swiss cheese and have the collective strength and push of a 12 year old girl. Now that the line is not doing anything Orakpo does not seem to be getting in there as much.
This moves us into another issue, it would seem that every offensive lineman that takes on Orakpo is mesmerized by his winning personality and charm and can't stop the urge to bear hug and hold onto him until the whistle blows and they are snapped out of their hypnosis. He has drawn atleast 6 holding penalties this season and been held countless more times that have not been called. Because of this he has 5 sacks on the year, which would put him on track for about 13 sacks for the season.
Poll and more of my rambling after the jump.
Our greatest 2009 Offensive weapon has returned!
Hunter the Punter is back in a redskins uniform and now the season is looking bright once again. (only kidding) Hunter was resigned though and Bidwell was placed on IR.
I am surprised though that he was not brought back last year as he did pretty well. Instead, we brought in a guy that is old and spent the entire previous year on IR, and is now once again, on IR.
I am pleased by this move for several reasons, but primarily it is because everytime we go into a kicking situation, I am worried. Punts used to be a nothing play in my mind, yet everytime Bidwell went to punt I would cringe. Everytime Sundberg is out there to snap I am worried. Having a guy out there who is considered to be one of the best holders in the game makes me feel better about the field goals, and honestly, the punting siutation should improve as well.
I wish I could provide some stats but I'm not good that good at writing these things yet and droping in charts. Maybe someone will help me in the comments, or maybe nobody cares about punter stats.
Poll after the jump.
Poll: Are Preseason games fun to go to?
Every year preseason tickets come in with my season tickets. When these games start I am so football deprived that I decide to go, (that and the $100 price tag on those tickets upsets me if they are wasted). Then I go to the game and I try to have fun, and yet nobody respects the game at all (fans, or I guess I should say, the people at the stadium). I try to watch the game and people get up and walk around the entire time, I missed a touchdown pass once because the guy in front of me got up right in the middle of a play. In fact, I would have to say I missed a good 1/3 to 1/2 of all the plays of that game because the sheer number of people getting up and moving around while plays are happening on the field. (My seats are out on the aisle so whenever anybody in the 20 rows ahead of me walks up the stairs it blocks my view.)
I enjoy watching some of the second and third stringers because all offseason I read up on the guys and I like to root for some of these guys to get some playing time in the year.
This is my first FanPost and I ask this because I don't have many redskins fans to talk to and I've come to really enjoy people's opinions on this site.
