Peachtree Hoops A Completely Unnecessary & Premature List of Potential Coaching Candidates

Since Rick Sund's contract is ending this year and Larry Drew's contract entering an option year next season, I thought it would be a good time to look at a couple candidates for Atlanta Hawks. I want to go ahead and give my prediction that the actual acquisition of a new head coach next season seems unlikely. I'm going to assume that we are going to head into the 2012-2013 season with essentially the same head coach. With our major pieces like Josh Smith and Zaza Pachulia facing free agency after next season, withstanding an extension, I think we'll give it one more year till we change coaches, or GM... or owners.

BUT unlikely doesn't mean impossible. And since I'm a glutton for getting my hopes up and then seeing them come crashing down to reality I want to include you guys on that wonderful, excitingly painful, soul crushing ride.

Peachtree Hoops Where in the world is Jamal Crawford going to go?

It looks like Rip Hamilton to the Chicago Bulls is a done deal. So, where does that leave us with a S&T?

Teams who've contacted him:
New York
Indiana
Minnesota
New Jersey
New Orleans
Chicago

There is still a possibility that a S&T doesn't get done at all as well and he leaves with no return. Let's take a look at the possibilities after the jump.

Peachtree Hoops Free The Teague | Propaganda

In my efforts to influence the general audience to push for Jeff Teague in a starting line-up ( Hell, I'd even settle for regular rotational minutes). The DNP's have been piling up; even though, he has shown the ability to hold his own.  I have concocted a plan to let our voice be heard. This is a way of showing unity as Hawks fans and something to show our disdain for Larry Drew's plan.

Peachtree Hoops Point Guard of the Future... Meet Earl Boykins

So the rumors going around have it that the Atlanta Hawks front office have reached out to Earl "The Squirrel" Boykins. In an effort to create a clone of 1988 - 1989 Atlanta Hawks team, a season in which we won 52 games, we just might get the pieces to make it happen.

Spud Webb - Earl Boykins (Mainly for height purposes)

Dominique Wilkins - Josh Smith (Athletic Phenom with crazy dunkability)

Moses Malone - Al Horford (He may as well be the Messiah for the Hawks)

Dudley Bradley - Zaza Pachulia (Bradley was known as the "Secretary of Defense" and if Zaza was American I bet his name would be Dudley)

Reggie Theus - Jamal Crawford (The spark that lights it up)

Doc Rivers - Mike Bibby (Was a double-double guy... almost...once upon a time...back in the 2000-2001 season... playing for Vancouver)

Jon "Contract" Koncak - Joe Johnson (Yeah, that whole contract isn't gonna leave you, Joe)

Antoine Carr - Marvin Williams (Skinny Mustache Aficionados)

Alright getting back on to the subject, According to RealGM and other reliable sources, they claim that Atlanta Hawks Front Office has reached out to Earl Boykins. Now, I don't think we have a definite need at the point guard position and it doesn't really bode well to the progress of Jeff Teague. I question if the Hawks have full trust in Mike Bibby, who has been pretty reliable so far but dropped off last year and maybe on-the-go through a trade if they do sign Boykins, or Teague who might not pan out the way Hawks would like. For all the respect I have for Boykins, who did some wonderful things with Washington last season, I don't think its a glaring issue with only 2 true point guards on the roster. We do have Joe Johnson and Jamal Crawford who know how to run the point effectively. Although, I'm sure we're done with acquiring big men to station our front court I still think that, that is our most untested and questioned spots on the roster and you can never have to many quality big men. This really doesn't make alot of sense unless the Hawks Front Office has a master idea about trading Bibby, which we are more than likely going to do, and sign Boykins as a replacement. So what do you guys think? I want to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly

Posting and Toasting New GM

I've come to the conclusion that Donnie Walsh is the new (or old?) Al Davis when it comes to hiring people... How the hell could he be reconsidering Isiah Effing Thomas for the new GM job after the clusterf*ck he pulled a couple years ago. Another question I have is why haven't the Knicks looked at more capable candidates like Kevin Pritchard. THE MAN IS A DRAFTING GOD! Look at all the talent he's brought to the Portland like Roy, Aldridge and Fernandez,   and especially last year trading for Marcus Camby after everyone and their mother got injured and still got them to the playoffs... I'm just thinking of what he could do to the Knicks. Thoughts?

Peachtree Hoops The Josh Smith Identity: This Summer's Blockbuster HIT!!!

Sitting at home watching reruns of the Miami Love Orgy on ESPN I was thinking to myself how in the world could we get better. So I was wondered what could we get if we did trade Josh Smith. First off, I'm the biggest Josh Smith fan and think that we would be better with him than without him from his incredible court vision, tenacious defense, insane dunkage. Unfortunately, Al Horford is a better fit at the 4 and I don't know/think that Smith would be as efficient at the 3, even though when he was at the 3 he was alot younger, unrefined, and not fully matured as a player (I'm thinking Larry Drew can get the most out of this guy). Getting an All-Star Forward in return for a High-End All Purpose player like Josh Smith is difficult...So, ladies and gentleman, I give you Carmelo Anthony. I know we would have some defensive liabilities signing Anthony but thinking we would gain someone who can spread the floor, shoot the jumper, and also create at the rim. That will allow for Atlanta to have a more cohesive lineup and everyone is happy (if we find a legitimate big-bodied, shot-blocking C)

THE TRADE:

Atlanta will need someone else to go along with Smith to compensate the salary differential so I have:

Atlanta Gets:

Carmelo Anthony

Denver Gets:

Josh Smith

Mo Evan

THE LINEUP

PG : Teague / Bibby

SG : Johnson / Crawford / Crawford

SF : Anthony / Williams / (Childress)

PF : Horford / ? / (Free Agent Signing For Back Ups - Haslem)

C   : ? / Pachulia / Morris (Available Free Agent C - Shaq, Scola -RFA, Ilgauskas, Brad Miller... thats pretty much it)

Looking at it realistically ASG probably won't ever go for it but oh well.... What do you guys think? Would you ever be open to adding someone of this roster who doesn't have a J or a C in their initials?
