And Ryan Miller was the true MVP of the NHL 2009- 2010 season. He was easily the best goaltender and singlehandedly won them numerous games. Even the ones he didn't, he kept the Sabres in it. If he had a bad game, thats it-Sabres lose. Sounds like an MVP to me. Also lead the league in GVT by a large margin, if you're into that. He was the best goddamn player in the league that year, and also lead the olympic charge for team USA.

Big Blue View Simple Poll Question

As the title says, I just have a simple poll I want to ask the Big Blue View community. (In reality, this could be a fanshot, but I don't think you can attach polls to that.) I'm curious to know what you all think about our team.

So what game most shows the true New York Giants this season? Our Giants have been so bipolar I want to get the pulse of the BBV nation. I know in reality the answer is in the middle, but indulge me. I don't think I'm sure... So lets go Giants! (I just need a few more words, so yeah...)

Poll
Which result is more representative of the real 2011 New York Giants?
Coming back on the road and beating the mighty Patriots 24-20?

Getting blown out at home in a critical game against the last place Redskins?

Lone Star Ball Ron Washington

Hello fellow baseball fans. I want to know what fans think of their team's manager. So, I am conducting an experiment of sorts. I have no idea how it will turn out, and that is somewhat exciting. As you all have probably experienced, it is rather hard to judge the job of the MLB manager, as their jobs performance are tied other people's performance. I also happen to believe SB nation houses die-hard fans that watch most games and analyze managers. So I will try to gauge manager performance by asking you all a simple poll question:

Do you approve or disapprove of the way Ron Washington is handling his job as manager?

This question is somewhat vague as one can define the manager's responsibilities, as you want.

Also, if you feel strongly about a manager (good or bad) it would be great if you leave comment explaining or give a reason why.

* Also you may have noticed this seems very form letter-y. It is because I plan on posting the same poll on all 32 baseball blogs.

Thank you all.

Marlins' Leo Nunez playing under assumed name, and he is headed to the restricted list.

In a related story, Yankees SS Derek Jeter held a press conference revealing "Derek Jeter" is an assumed name and his real name is Jesus Christ. He added that it seemed Yankees fans and the media had already had figured it out.

Die By The Blade Amerks game

Hello fellow Sabres fans. Being that the Americans are the young Sabres again, my family and I was planning on going to a game this year, as its cheaper and closer than Buffalo. Plus, they should be very good.  Now, I know I'm a bit late to the party.

I was thinking of going to the Grand Rapids Griffins @ Amerks on October 15th. Anyways, any advice on Blue Cross Arena and the game? Food to get, (or avoid), seats/tickets to get, parking, anything I might not think of, etc, is appreciated. Let's go Sabres!

Amazin' Avenue Fred Wilpon goes to the movies!

Fred Wilpon decided to take his mind of his team's troubles by reviewing some popular current movies he has recently seen.

On the Hangover II:  "Some schmucks in the audience paid admission based on that one movie,” he said,  “It's sixty-five to seventy percent of the original.”

On Thor: "A really good hero. A very good hero. Not a super hero.”

On Johnny Depp's performance in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides "A good actor. A shitty movie-good actor."

On X-Men: First Class- "They think they're going to get Dark Knight money. They've had everything wrong with it- they won't get it."

Finally, when asked if he planned on seeing Super 8, he simply responded by saying "Is the sun going to come up tomorrow?"

That was my attempt at humor. Could not work in the "snakebitten" thing yet. Hope you enjoyed it.

Die By The Blade Any DbtBers at next Sabres home game?

My and a fellow hockey fan (he's actually a penguins fan but I still associate with him) are going to the next Sabres home game Sunday March 13th, at 5:00 against the evil Senators. I was wondering if any fellow Die by the Bladers are going. Also if anyone has any "tips" or a general guide to HSBC arena as this will be my first game there. Just stuff like the food/food prices, or any useful knowledge that might not be obvious, etc.

And of course, beat Ottawa.  Thanks.

Windy City Gridiron Humor a Giants Fan (and a poll!)

Hello Chicagoans, congrats on beating the Jets and having a successful season, despite the media's constant claims that you guys were overrated and going to show you "true colors" eventually.(THE BEARS ARE not WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE! Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Anywhoo, as Im sure you're all aware, my New York Giants need a Bears win over the Packers to have a chance at a playoff berth.  I don't really know much about Lovie Smith. So, as knowledgeable Bears fans, what are the chances the Bears play the full 60 with their starters and try to eliminate Green Bay? Do you all expect Cutler, Peppers, Urlacher, etc to play? And finally, what do you guys expect from the upcoming game?

McCovey Chronicles As a Mets fan, I just want to say I'm pulling for you guys.

Just stopped by to say let's go Giants.I really don't have anything profound to write. I've been a lifelong fan of the New York Metropolitans, and had to endure lots of heartache. I just want to voice my support for the Giants and hope you guys can win it all. But even if you don't, beat the Phillies. (Seriously, do it. I know you don't actually control it, but do it. Sick of those guys.)

I've always like the Giants becuase the were at one a time a New York team, and I kind of saw the plight of the Mets in the Giants. It seems the Mets and Giants do have some similarities (at least until the Mets started seriously sucking): higher payroll, a few elite players, but a lacking supporting cast until recently, some bad contracts, and bad GMing. in some weird way, I feel as if the Giants are Mets West  Mets are Giants East. Could be sadly mistaken. Let's go Giants!

Oh PS, and even if yo don't win another game- enjoy the postseason. I know I sound like one of those grizzled veterans you hear about telling his rookie teammates "don't take it for granted,"  but I thought 2006 was and 2007 and 2008 our year.  I don't think I need to tell you how that ended.

Adam Schein: "Carlos Beltran should no longer be an everyday player."

Not just move to RF, but platoon RF! According to Adam, Frenchy has had some "unbelievable" at bats in big games. He also seems to think Beltran will NEVER be an everyday player again and the only reason to play him is the "past and his contract." That's funny- thats how I know Frenchy sucks, the whole frickin' past. Per Loud Mouths.

The Daily Forehand The SINGLE most important stat for the AO Final EDIT: I was right

I'll keep it simple. Federer v. Murray today for the Australian Open Title. Here's Federer's 1st serve percentage in all 4 of  Major Finals he played in last year. This is via ATPworldtour.com match stats.

Federer 1st Serve % Last Year

Australian Open- 51% & 6 Double Faults (Sure it was 260 minutes, but 6 is still a lot for Fed) L

French Open  - 65% W

Wimbledon -    64% W

US Open -      51%  & 11 ( ! ) Double Faults  L

If Federer serves well, Federer will win. If not.....

UPDATE:  I was right. Fed serves at 66% and won.

The Daily Forehand The GOAT Debate & Poll.

With the tail end of the tennis year approaching (and only 2.5 more meaningful tournaments left) I'd like to start the debate on who the Greatest Of All Time was/is. Its not the most meaningful debate, but I've always found it fun. I know it's hard to compare Eras, but lets do it anyways.

Just say who you think the GOAT is and lay down your case.

Me first: Roger Federer- Federer is the one of the few to complete the Career Slam, as you all know. He was ranked #1 for 237 consecutive weeks, the only man to win two separate majors 5 times in a row,  the only man to win the USO 5 (or 4) times consecutively, reached 22 and counting major semifinals in a row (over double the old record), has reached 21 finals including  a record 10 in a row, most consecutive wins on grass and hard-court, and just generally dominated the Open Era like no one else.

Ok, so not a very original choice. GO!

Amazin' Avenue For Discussion: next Mets skipper

Hello All. Let's try to move onto next season as this is a lost cause. Let's pretend we know for sure Jerry Manuel will not be coming back, at least for now. This is not the issue I'm addressing as others have done it a lot better and more in depth.

I know people like Bobby V, but  I like Manny Acta (pictured). He is a more modern manager and embraces saber-metrics, meaning he doesn't bunt. I really like him.

FYI his opinion on bunting:

"Bunting is pretty outdated. Everybody scores so many runs nowadays, it doesn’t make sense to play for one run unless it’s late in the game and it’s close. I hardly ever bunt early in a game, unless it’s with a pitcher. A big inning can win you a game. One run in the third inning can’t..."

plus:

"It's been proven to me that a guy at first base with no outs has a better chance to score than a guy at second base with one out. That has been proven to me with millions of at-bats. I don't like moving guys over from first to second unless the pitcher is up or it is real late in the game. "

and someone asked him what his favorite blog was and he said:

"Squawking Baseball, of course. I read Baseball Prospectus a lot too. Will Carroll writes some of my favorite stuff. I also loved Mind Game."

The Daily Forehand Early US Open predictions

Since this is the slow part of the season, lets make some early predictions/debate. Lets start with the ATP/men.

For debate: Is it crazy to think DelPo can be a finalist (if he can avoid Fed or Nadal)? How Roddick will do after his run at Wimby? Will Djokovic and Murray disappoint? Will Nadal be  at 100%? I'll be boring and say Federer will win, but I probably will change my guess after the open series.

Oh and P.S. if Nadal wins we'd have two career slams in one year. Just think about that for a second.

And P.P.S. If Nadal plays Federer in the final then they would have played each other in all 4 major finals. Has anyone else done this?
