The 58th pick isn't getting anyone excited anytime soon, especially in a draft that has been labeled among the worst ever. Thankfully, Danny Ainge isn't that boring and despite his protests to the contrary, his history has not been one to sit on his hands while all the other GM's get to have all the fun.

Ainge has a lot of "chips" at his disposal and in case you have cruised around the internet lately, the blogs and message boards have noticed. Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen are two of the most commonly used names in conjunction with trade rumors and those rumors will only grow the closer we get to Draft Night. To sort it all out, Celtics Stuff Live was pleased to have the legendary Mike Gorman on the broadcast in his first post season appearance of the year. Mike again reiterated that it is unlikely we'd see Ray or Rajon traded, but that the real strength of Danny Ainge is that he listens to any and all offers. While this may lead to a lot of chatter, the results have been pretty good.

While Mike was not all that enamored with the free agent class of this summer, but he noted that the global economic slowdown may keep prices of free agents down which should only help a championship contending team like the Celtics.

To wrap the show, Jon and Justin looked ahead to Thursday night's draft and Celtics Stuff Live's Draft Night show from 7:30 until things start slowing down. Join us at Comcast Sports Net and Celticsstufflive.com.

Celtics Stuff Live: Tonight With Steve Bulpett

The offseason is upon us at Celtics Stuff Live, but we "break" for no one and that includes the minor fact that the Celtics won't play another game for nearly four months. Already we have seen the first trade rumor of the summer which I believe was titled "OMG!! RAY AND RONDO TO PHENIX FOR AMORE AND BARBOSA!!!" Or maybe not, but you get the drift... this won't be the first rumor of the summer, that is certain. To help us weed out the good stuff this evening, Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald joined us to chat about all things Celtics through what should be a potentially pivotal period for the team as it looks toward Banner 18 and beyond.

Steve displayed some disappointment that the team felt it was necessary to keep the media and the fans in the dark regarding Garnett's injury status, but it didn't appear that he's ready to throw hands with the "Wycster". We broached the subject of the Ray/Rondo rumor and Steve noted that the team is going to listen to everyone, but indicated that the team made the deals it did for Allen and Garnett to win as many championships as it could with them as key players on the Celtics. Fast forwarding to the present, Celtics are resolved to keeping Rondo in uniform for his entire career, and that neither the team nor Rondo's agent are looking at maximum contract money in a deal. Certainly good news for the Rondo fans, like myself, out there. However Steve mentioned the team seems much more committed to building around Pierce, Garnett, and Rondo than Ray.

On his way to wrapping up with the show, Steve told the story of how Tom Thibodeau "Almost broke the sky" when they played ball together back in the day.

Celtics Stuff Live: Tonight With Marc Spears

Marc Spears joined Justin and Jon for a Memorial Day weekend show to recap the season and look ahead to the offseason. Justin and Jon pushed the Ray Allen discussion as a possible means to creating cap flexibility and building depth, but Marc squashed that line of thinking and was pretty confident nothing would happen this summer.

Financial considerations being paramount in this recession and central to the discussion around offseason maneuverings, Marc felt that Bill Walker was a likely and able candidate to fill a major need; a back-up for Paul Pierce. This spawned Jon and Justin’s one standing gripe regarding Docv River’s coaching, an unwillingness to play rookies, both during the interview and afterwards.

Finally, Tom Thuibodeau is making the head coaching interview tour and Marc was not so sure that Tom would secure employment outside of Boston for next season. With many capable coaches vying for few opportunities, Marc puts Eddie Jordan at the top of that list and the CSL guys were in agreement.

While the tail end of Marc’s interview devolved into a discussion of his being a renaissance man, apple picking in Maine, and the potential public access documentary starring the esteemed Globe writer and a Maine lobster, die-hard listeners will certainly enjoy this show.

It's been 24 hours and Big Baby is still the talk of Celtics fans and the league as the rotund forward transformed the team from potentially being down 3-1 to tying their series with Orlando at 2 with a pair of games left to play at home. For some sports shows, that would be enough analysis to keep them full until Memorial Day... not Celtics Stuff Live.

Jon and Justin spent a lot of time talking about the man who made the pass to Baby on that play, Paul Pierce, and his effort on Sunday night in the context of his ability to come through when the Celtics need him most for his entire career. A fantastic email from John in Boston took this point to the next level in discussing Rajon Rondo's absurdly KG-like line and Justin made the point that we may be seeing the next Paul Pierce in the form of the former Kentucky point guard.

Celtics Stuff Live hit the airwaves Thursday night feeling pretty good following the Celtics dominant performance in Game 2 and the late afternoon word that Rafer Alston would be suspended for Game 3 due to his inexplicable swat to Eddie House's head in last night's fourth quarter. Still, questions surrounding Paul Pierce and the bench's ability replicate their Game 2 performance don't allow a completely comfortable night's sleep, but such is life of an NBA fan in the playoffs.

Scott Souza of the Metro West Daily News was kind enough to spend a few minutes with Jon and Justin to offer some of his impressions from last night's contest and provide an update following today's practice at Healthpoint. Scott offered a bit of a preview of his article for Friday's paper where he delves a bit deeper into the Celtic bench, specifically in the backcourt, and Scott finds perhaps a rosier picture than many fans have seen over the last few weeks. Scott rightly notes, that even during last year's championship run it took some time before Doc found a rotation he was comfortable with and that seemed to turn out all right for all involved.

Following Scott's turn with CSL, Jon and Justin answered a voicemail and email on Paul Pierce and his struggles so far in the playoffs, and wrapped it all up with having a pair of callers on the show at the same time as an intriguing way to still end the show in an hour... however, we failed.

Like Paul Pierce, Celtics fans were looking for their own hyperbaric chambers to recuperate after the marathon playoff series against the Chicago Bulls. Celtics Stuff Live wasn't quite ready to put away the Bulls series, so Jon and Justin welcomed Kelly Dwyer of Yahoo Sports' Ball Don't Lie NBA blog to take one last look back at the series Sean Grande dubbed the "greatest of all time." Being a longtime rabid Bulls fan, Kelly had some insight on the growth of his Bulls into the very dangerous team the C's battled to a near standstill over the last two weeks. Still,
Kelly had exceedingly high praise for our Boston Celtics, and he has had high praise going back to his very first visit to Celtics Stuff Live.

Jon and Justin wrapped things up once again in overtime with a weekly call from the Scotsman followed by some chatting about how this Orlando - Boston series was going to break down with one matchup rising above all others, Perk on Dwight Howard.

The radio voice of the Boston Celtics, Sean Grande, joined Jon and Justin to chat about what Sean thought could be one of the best seven game series in NBA history should it go the distance. High praise, no doubt, but that is precisely what you get when overtime playoff games are as plentiful as Mikki Moore fouls. While Mikki was on the receiving end of some fairly harsh, and deserved, criticism from the guys and Grande, it was Glen Davis, he of the best plus/minus of any player in the playoffs, who was uncharacteristically receiving praise on this edition of Celtics Stuff Live.

Predictably, the topic turned to the up and down officiating which Grande saw as the worst in a single season he had seen in his 11 years involved in the NBA. No doubt this will give fuel to the fire of conspiracy theorists as well as those who simply believe the NBA officiating is god awful.

Following the Celtics 121-118 2OT loss to the Bulls on Sunday, Jessica Camerato from WEEI.com joined Justin and Jon to take stock of today's loss and the series which is now tied at 2-2. Rajon Rondo and Kendrick Perkins were at the heart of some praise for their play in this series, while Mikki Moore received some criticism for not playing well enough to earn more than 6 minutes of playing time in a game where the Celtics could have used his length. Jessica cast her vote for the Magic as the preferred second round opponent should the Celtics get past the first round. While she felt that the officiating did not favor the Bulls this afternoon, she did think that the final call on Perkins was one that should have been ignored in the interest of letting them play.

Later in the show, Justin expressed his concern that single days off and travel in between the next two games might adversely effect the Celtics given the heavy dose of minutes played by the starters today and the poor bench play in the series. We got a call from the Dadhead who lofted some criticism the way of Doc Rivers for not fouling the Bulls ahead by 3 in the final minutes of the first OT. The Scotsman made his regular call into the show and expressed his predictable frustration for the lack of calls for Paul Pierce and single digit attempts from the line.

We wrapped the show addressing the recent reports that Tony Allen has been receiving death threats, and spawned a brief look ahead to the upcoming off-season and wondering how the roster might shape out once again with limited depth as a result of Rajon Rondo deserving a high priced extension and role players like Tony seemingly unlikely to return. We also fit in an e-mail and voicemail calling for Doc Rivers to have received more votes for Coach of the Year (finishing 10th?) and the double-standard that was Mike Brown's garnering the award for doing no more than Doc Rivers in 2008 (losing out to Byron Scott). Jon and Justin agreed, feeling that no one has done more with less this season than Doc Rivers.

Join us this Wednesday from 9-10pm when Sean Grande will be our guest!
