Originally from a town 30 miles north of Boston, I was a lifelong Bruins fan after hearing my 1st game on the radio back in the mid-50s. Due to a job transfer, my family & I relocated here in '90 from CT; followed the Ice Caps and, at night, listened to Bruins (WBZ) & the Whalers (WTIC) w/ Chuck Kaiton on the radio. In fact, at the event where the team originally unveiled their logo at the Sheraton Imperial in RTP, Chuck gave me a huge bear hug when my buddies told him that I listened to his broadcasts of the Whalers games at night here in Raleigh - very embarassing, but I survived!
When the Whalers announced they were relocating to the Triangle, a bunch of co-workers & I at Nortel immediately called Hartford & got our names on the prospective season ticket holder list. We made all the trips to Greensboro, ate at Stamie's BBQ before each game, got our names on the brass plaque that's on the wall in the VIP lobby, and proud to be part of the original Caniacs!!!
Always the optimist, I got a Canes vanity plate (16-W CH) when they were 1st available following the year Ray Bourque won his Cup, but never in my wildest dreams would I ever have thought that I would be sitting in my STH seats, 20 rows up on the blue line for Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals & watch our team skate with The Cup over their heads!!!
