Shurmur might be willing to give up play calling
According to an article from CBS Sports, Browns HC Pat Shurmur would be willing to relinquish play calling duties to an OC "if the Browns hire a coordinator who can do it better." This could increase the odds of getting someone like Sherman or Childress.
HOW 'BOUT THAT TEBOW?
The euphoria may have worn off for some, but I just saw this today and couldn't pass it up. Fly United.
Strategy And Personnel
This is a pretty damning mid-term report card, but pretty much sums up a lot of what has been written on DBN.
Waiver Worries?
We have a while yet to go until coaches start winnowing down the roster, but sooner or later some of these project players are going to be sitting on the waiver wire (sounds uncomfortable) waiting before they land on the practice squad. Granted, what we know about most of those players at this point = not much. But, since there's nothing else going on right now why not talk about something other than the QB outlook?
So, who are the project players that you most worry about losing to waivers?
Are Mangini and Holmgren really opposites?
I've been reading a lot lately about how many seem to think that Holmgren will want to dump Mangini because they have different philosophies. Mangini is a defensive mind. Holmgren is a west coast offense guy. Okay got it. Just not sure how those two conflict since they occur on opposite sides of the ball. This seems like a false comparison.
So we should be comparing, perhaps, their offensive visions. I recall a lot of folks in the off season predicting that Quinn would be the starting quarterback because he was better suited to the west coast style of passing game that Mangini would want to use in his offense.
Specialized terminology is not my strong suite, so perhaps you can understand my confusion. If Mangini likes a west coast style passing game in his ball control offense and Holmgren is a west coast offense kind of guy, then where is the problem? Does a true west coast game say "Screw you" to the running game to the point that the Mangini style and the Holmgren style just don't mix?
I eagerly await the input from those with a better grasp of the concepts than myself.
No wedge means major adjustment for kickoff units
Every NFL team will be affected by the elimination of the wedge, but what does it mean specifically for the Browns? I'm thinking specifically of how it will affect Cribbs' production as both a returner and a gunner.
Do the Browns have the right mix of linebackers for the coverage team?
Will TE's become more valuable on return teams due to their mix of speed and blocking abilities?
(BTW, it's my first shot at a FanShot, so be gentle)
