Did he struggle against lefties as mightily as he is now, when he was coming up in the minors? Or is this something that's developed after his knee injury in '04?

Ramon Santana. Twins SS prospect in Beloit (midwest league). He's a bit old for a league, but he is smokin' hot. He has never had an OPS over .720, this year it's 1.135

According to Jay Clemons at SI.com anyways...

"Talk about someone who's physically ready for a "shock the world" type of breakout season. Slowey reminds me of Roy Halladay so much ... that I'm willing to pencil him in for 18 wins, 2.93 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 168 strikeouts -- essentially Halladay's stats from his breakout campaign in '02, at age 25, coincidentally."

Thoughts?

He hit 2 HRs today, and has more this season (9) then his first four seasons in the Twins organization combined (7).

As far as I can recall, no one has EVER projected him developing much power. Is it for real, and what's his ceiling, HR-wise?

Biggest head-scratcher in your teams minor league system?

Who can you just not figure out? Who do you have no idea what their future holds?

Definitely Anthony Swarzak.

He went from a border-line elite prospect in 2007, to getting crushed at AA this year.

Since his promotion to AAA in July, he's dramatically improved. His BA has down more then .050 since his "promotion". His H/IP is good. As is his HR/9IP ratio.

But his K/9 ratio has dropped significantly, down to just 5.20 per 9 innings.

Anyone know what's the deal?

DSL Twins Starting Pitchers: All with impressive stats, but who are the top prospects?

18 years old - Pedro Guerra: 2.05 ERA, .94 WHIP, 57 H in 70.1 IP with 63 Ks and 9 BB

20 - Eliecer Cardenas: 1.84 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 49 H in 58.2 IP with 55 Ks and 10 BB

17 - Adrian Salcedo: 1.40 ERA, .76 WHIP, 38 H in 57.2 IP with 39 Ks and 6 BB

21 - Ramon Acosta: 0.0 ERA, .64 WHIP, 26 H in in 54.2 IP with 35 Ks and 9 BB

Obviously the DSL is an extreme pitchers league, but still, Acosta was arguably the best pitcher in the league, and Salcedo the best 17 year old, with the other two not far behind.

Any information about their stuff?

He's still just 23 years old, and he pitched great against the White Sox last night. But from reading through past diaries, it seems like a large percentage of the people here have soured on him.

What gives?

No, he's not going to be the next Liriano, but I see no reason to believe that he can't be an outstanding major league pitcher in his own right.

Last season he put up great numbers, but got hit around a bit by left-handed hitters.
This year, however, he's been ever better against left-handed then right-handed hitters. Is there any reason to believe that he can't be a dominate RP for the next decade?
