First things first: Are there other NHL teams besides the Penguins and Capitals? Nope! Wait, really? OK, sure, in the strictest technical sense there are other teams in the league. In addition to the Penguins and Capitals, there are also the Flyers, Rangers, Red Wings, Blackhawks and… um… the Lakers. Look, it really doesn't matter. Just pay attention to the Penguins and Capitals and everyone will be happy. Cool, so both those teams will have long playoff runs? You know what, maybe just focus on the Penguins. http://www.downgoesbrown.com/2011/01/so-youve-become-hockey-fan-gary.html

Extra Attacker PensBurgh league week 9 standings

5

Pressed for time, so no witty banter this week. Nobody was even close to the overall lead last week, so no bad feelings about missing out on the tickets. Week 9 leaders: 1. A S3R10US P4P3RCUT (150) 2. Imscore (149) 3. Burger. (140) 4. FrankTheTank (136) 5. emins (129) And overall standings through right now (so some of these people have the bonus 25 points for this week): 1. pittsburgher (912) 2. FrankTheTank (887) 3. moogles (873) 4. Sid's Crustache (868) 5. Pootie Letang (842) This week, there's a MAF Winter Classic jersey up for the overall (i.e., not Pensburgh league) winner.

Extra Attacker PensBurgh league week 8 standings

13

This was a particularly weak week for me, but our Week 8 winner, Penguins Fury (aka AppleSweetRose in the comments) got 150 points on the dot, narrowly missing winning the 8GB iPod Touch for being the overall leader for Week 8. The rest of the top 5 for this week: 2. HobeyBurgh (102) 3. Team Ricks (100) 4. A S3R10US P4P3RCUT (99) 5. Pootie Letang and Gnoussss Gnoussss (97) And the leaders so far in the Pensburgh EA league: 1. Sid's Crustache (782) 2. pittsburgher (773) 3. FrankTheTank (751) 4. moogles (734) 5. Harples (728)

Extra Attacker PensBurgh league week 7 standings

Quick listing before tonight's game. The Week 7 standings were as follows: 1. Enemy Star (87) 2. Pootie Letang (84) 3. A S3R10US P4P3RCUT and FrankTheTank (78) 5. Team Ricks and Penguins Fury (77) Overall as of right now, meaning that some people have already gotten their 25 bonus points for the week: 1. Sid's Crustache (748) 2. pittsburgher (731) 3. FrankTheTank (672) 4. Man Of Steel (662) 5. jevans (647)

Extra Attacker PensBurgh league week 6 standings

3

Week 6 turned into a bloodbath for most of the front runners of the PensBurgh Extra Attacker league. Personally, Ben Lovejoy's -48 score in the Bruins game set my entire week back, and I was never able to truly recover from it. This week's winner, in his first Top 5 appearance of the season, was Harples with 147 points. The rest of the Top 5: 2. jevans (133) 3. pittsburgher (124) 4. The Imperial Inquisition (122) 5. Boom. Bing. (119) This seems like a good time for a reminder that simply logging in weekly gives you 25 bonus points, so even if you don't have time to set your roster, at least log in once! And here's the overall Top 5: 1. Sid's Crustache (681) 2. pittsburgher (656) 3. Man Of Steel (609) 4. The Imperial Inquisition (599) 5. FrankTheTank (594)

Extra Attacker PensBurgh league week 5 standings

13

Week 5 of the PensBurgh Extra Attacker league has come to a close, and this week's winner was Mr. Man himself, FrankTheTank, with 74 points, just one off the overall leader. Soooooo close to a $50 gift certificate to Pizza Hut, Frank, how can you look yourself in the mirror? The rest of this week's top 5: 2. Sid's Crustache (65) 3. 4thlinerecall (41) 4. LeTangueray (40) 5. Jonestown Jinx, Mayhem Makers, and Gnoussss Gnoussss (34) And the top 5 for the season thus far, with Mr. Krypton unseated from the top spot:: 1. Sid's Crustache (565) 2. Man Of Steel (544) 3. pittsburgher (532) 4. The Doormats (496) 5. Jonestown Jinx and FrankTheTank (481) Gloating time!

Extra Attacker PensBurgh league week 4 standings

29

Week 4 of the PensBurgh EA league is in the books, and one name keeps popping up in the top 5. He didn't win this week, though, that goes to Sid's Crustache with 222 points. The rest of the top 5: 2. It'sInJohnson'sUnderwear (190) 3. pittsburgher (138) 4. Man Of Steel (134) 5. Enemy Star (122) and jevans (122) And the top 5 for the season thus far: 1. Man Of Steel (564) 2. pittsburgher (525) 3. Sid's Crustache (500) 4. The Imperial Inquisition (499) 5. Jonestown Jinx (447) Lots of shuffling still going on in the top 5. I don't think things will be settled for quite some time yet.

Extra Attacker PensBurgh league week 3 standings

11

Here we are at the beginning of Week 4 of Extra Attacker. This time I'm getting the FanShot in before the first game of the week, so I'll do the week's top 5 and the overall top 5. For Week 3, pittsburgher won the week with a whopping 176 points, not bad for having negative 15 for the Blues game. The rest of the top 5: 2. Man Of Steel (169) 3. Ben's Pens (155) 4. Team Ricks (148) 5. Imscore (133) Overall, our current leader is resident gloater LastSonOfKrypton, team name Man Of Steel with 455 points. The rest of the top 5: 2. The Imperial Inquisition (446) 3. pittsburgher (412) ...fitting point total, that 4. Team Ricks (410) 5. The Doormats (389) Feel free to gloat in comments, but remember that one good week can spring someone from last to first!

Orpik's return likely Saturday

29

Head coach Dan Bylsma said that he expects defenseman Brooks Orpik to return to the lineup Saturday night in St. Louis. Orpik has been out since Oct. 10 with a groin strain. "I haven’t talked to Brooks, but hopefully (Saturday) will be the day for him to get back in there." (from Penguins Report)

Ovechkin and shooting percentage

37

I made the offhand comment last night in the game thread that Ovechkin seems to have the lowest shooting percentage of any great scorer all-time. Turns out I was pretty much right, at least insofar as the available data can tell us. Keep in mind that shot data has only been around for a few decades. Hence, you can ignore the Boom Boom Geoffrion listing at #51, since the shot data only exists for the final season of his career, and so his apparent 6% shooting percentage doesn't hold water.

Extra Attacker PensBurgh league week 2 standings

56

Sorry I didn't get this up before Monday's game. As a result I don't have accurate overall standings after the end of Week 2, but I do have the Week 2 standings for you all. Man Of Steel won the week with a whopping 226 points. See what happens when the team does well? The rest of the top 5: 2. The Imperial Inquisition (219) 3. The Doormats (215) 4. Team Workrulz (208) 5. Pootie Letang (201) Feel free to gloat in comments. There's no game on Monday the 25th, so hopefully I can get this together before the first game next week.

The Imperial Inquisition took the lead in week 1 with 71 points. The rest of the top 5 were: 2. HobeyBurgh (58) 3. Jonestown Jinx (52) 4. The RedMosquitos (48) 5. Team Ricks (44) Seven out of 34 people, myself included, got fooled by a scratched player. That's not too bad, it's just zero points. Whatever you do, don't get fooled by a player who gets sent down: that's an automatic -10!
