A hint of Sanity at Redskins Park

NFL.com reports that the team is discussing a contract extension with Rocky-Mac, who is in a contract  year.  Thoug we all know he has bum knees, I think we could invest 3 more years in him at a reasonable sum.  (3 years, 5.8-7 mil, with 500K to 1 mil guaranteed).  Though he is potentially worth more, I wouldn't put too much on him right now.  He was second on the team in tackles and has improved (rather significantly) yearly.  I would be in favor of lacing his contract with playing time incentives and conditioning bonuses-particularly the PT incentives.  that way, we can pay him the money he deserves-IF he plays.

As for the rest of our LB corps, namely the stronside, I think we should hold off drafting someone for now.  There are a couple of good push rushers at SLB that will likely go first day, but aren't particularly well known.  I, being from VA am partial to Sintim out of UVA.  He lacks ideal speed, so his inabilty to cover many of the TEs in this league may push him back to an early day 2 pick. I think he will be maybe the 8th OLB taken...

J. Freeman on Radar

I just wanted to put out feelers to see what the community thinks of Freeman.  As I had commented on a post earlier today, JF is actually climbing many draft boards (reportedly) and even trumps Sanchez on several.  I have a thing for extremely large football players, though bigger isn't always better (or at least that's what my ex said).  In this kids case, he's a beast, and could end up being a functional version of Culpepper (remember those long lost days?)  I admit to advocating our drafting him, though I relent in the face of our greater needs.

JC can have this last year.  After that, he's got to go if there's no major improvement.  (20-25% increase in stats on the positive end)

Redskins Trading Up?

More names are being associated with the Skins besides Sanchez.  Orakpo as we can see from other posts...but why not Curry?  Why not J Smith?  If the redskins were to trade up, the last one I'd hope they do it for would possibly be Orakpo...though Sanchez is danger-close.  I'd rather use Curry as a Tweener dependent on situation over Orakpo, and "O" has a medical history.  Our O-line does need to get younger, so I would lose no sleep if we took an OT.  Comments?

Eagles Get Stronger

Which of course, is bad news for us-it's still unofficial, but per ESPN.com, the Beagles will aquire J. Peters from the Bills.  Peters is a top end LT, one we surely could have benefited from.  But nonetheless, this does make our meager pass rush, to date, less effective-against a divisional opponent.  We swept the series last year, but it helps to do it again.  The Eagles gave up a 1,4, and an undisclosed 2010 pick.  Should we have pursued a similar path?  One caveat-He wanted to be paid as the top tackle in the league-he's arguably top 3, certainly top 5.

Should we have attempted the trade for Peters using a similar template for what Eagles gave up?

Skins have the number 1 overall pick...

Who should they choose?  No trades, no passing...who should they select with the top pick?  Stafford?  Crabtree? Orakpo? J. Smith or Curry?  Colt McCoy?  lol.  Just crossed my mind, thought I would ask around.

Though I think I would go for Curry, he is arguably the biggest potential instant upgrade.  I trust our veteran guys to hold down the DE spot for ONE more year.  But that would be my second choice.  O is a little light, and even though we now have a massive body inside, I hate being run on, and the old men we have in place are well suited to stop the run.  Curry can rush the passer from the Sam spot, or even go to DE on passing downs.

Kiper picks Sanchez for Skins

Looking at Mel Kiper's latest mock draft on espn.com, he comes up with Sanchez for the skins.  Of course, its based on the Skins stance of taking the best player available (and he believes if Sanchez came back for his senior year at USC he would be the number 1 pick).  I cannot stress enough how much I disagree with this pick.  Even if he's the best player available, its not something I as a fan could endorse.  It likely comes mostly from liking Colt, and wanting to see him get a chance, I admit.  The only way such a pick would be palatable, would be if JC were moved draft day for a second round pick or a 3 plus another pick or player dependent on position.  Then we are forced to start all over at QB.  I am completely in favor of letting your 1 rounders start off the bat, but because of Colt's familiarity with the offense (though USC runs a pro-style offense, so it could be a decent transition) should allow him to be the assumed starter.  And with the hatchet always looming overhead, Colt would give Zorn the best chance to win now.

My Mock 1

Just for kicks and giggles, I decided to post a mock draft I did for round 1 of this years draft.  What's the concensus?  I saw one draft that had us taking Knowshon Moreno with our pick.  If he's there, I am not too sure I would like us taking him.  But he won't make it to 13, there are 5, maybe 6 teams that could use him that come before us.  I personally like Chris Wells at RB, and really, he should be a first round pick...I could see the Jets, Browns, or Saints taking him, but he should make the top 20.  Can't believe I left him out.  I'd love for us to get the big back.

Taylor's Slayer Not Guilty

Or at least, that's what the miscreant who shot him will claim in court, per my reading on ESPN.com.  Against his lawyers wishes, this individual whose name I won't bother going back to cut and paste will now try and buck the plea deal which would have given him 29 years in the pen.  Now, he will fight a possible life sentence.  Granted, to me, 29 years is life when spent behind bars (though I'd likely live longer than that to enjoy a measure of freedom).  But hey, there is a good side-if he walks, there will be an angry mob of burgandy and gold waiting outside of the court to to mete out a little justice, DC style.

RIP Sean Taylor

'Tis a Pleasure

The back amongst you fine, fine collection of Redskins fan-ism!  I have little useful to say (those of you who have been a around for a while no this to be the rule, rather than the exception), but I have a minute from my busy life getting paid to make people bleed (ah, the joys of the sadistic mind!) so I just wanted to say first I am overly pleased with the skins this year (remember I predeicted a 9-7/10-6 season this year, as Zorn was giving me fuzzy feelings-never mind the fact we knew not what the first-class Defensive Rookie of the Year Horton-insert Zorny/Hor references-would be such an effin-awesome stud!) and am not surprised by the loss-just how ugly it was.  There I am sitting at BWW, cool beverage in hand, with a look of disgust and horror on my quickly-numbing face.  I dare, however, go back again for the game which will get us back on track Cowpokes verus the 'Skins!  Let us hope this "halftime adjustment" the coaching staff will make to game-planning will help bring about my belief we shall see the Skins in the NFC championship game-though my hopes have been somewhat dashed. Though I still refuse to buy a Portis jersey (debating Cooley vs. Horton) because I just refuse to accept him, he certainly gets some respect outta me.  Well gents (and lady or two...I havent been around much for weeks) its been fun wasting this space-can't believe you are stil reading this...forget your pills again?  Thought so...

Say it ain't so!!!

Ya,  it's so. I'm back bizzzitches!  I like the new layout.  I have been dying to get back in the Skin Fold.  My mock draft could've been better, don't remind me, but i did predict a bunch of movement-so I basically voided my own predictions in saying such.  Anyways, it's good to finally be back.  Zorn looks like he may have been a good choice, I have been monitoring that closely. What do y'all think about the skins since we became "oh so Zorny!"?
