The back amongst you fine, fine collection of Redskins fan-ism! I have little useful to say (those of you who have been a around for a while no this to be the rule, rather than the exception), but I have a minute from my busy life getting paid to make people bleed (ah, the joys of the sadistic mind!) so I just wanted to say first I am overly pleased with the skins this year (remember I predeicted a 9-7/10-6 season this year, as Zorn was giving me fuzzy feelings-never mind the fact we knew not what the first-class Defensive Rookie of the Year Horton-insert Zorny/Hor references-would be such an effin-awesome stud!) and am not surprised by the loss-just how ugly it was. There I am sitting at BWW, cool beverage in hand, with a look of disgust and horror on my quickly-numbing face. I dare, however, go back again for the game which will get us back on track Cowpokes verus the 'Skins! Let us hope this "halftime adjustment" the coaching staff will make to game-planning will help bring about my belief we shall see the Skins in the NFC championship game-though my hopes have been somewhat dashed. Though I still refuse to buy a Portis jersey (debating Cooley vs. Horton) because I just refuse to accept him, he certainly gets some respect outta me. Well gents (and lady or two...I havent been around much for weeks) its been fun wasting this space-can't believe you are stil reading this...forget your pills again? Thought so...

Ya, it's so. I'm back bizzzitches! I like the new layout. I have been dying to get back in the Skin Fold. My mock draft could've been better, don't remind me, but i did predict a bunch of movement-so I basically voided my own predictions in saying such. Anyways, it's good to finally be back. Zorn looks like he may have been a good choice, I have been monitoring that closely. What do y'all think about the skins since we became "oh so Zorny!"?

Hogs Haven Reader Mock Draft #1

[editor's note, by Skin Patrol] Promoted to the front page because I want to encourage reader(s) to do additional mock drafts. I very much appreciate Justin taking the time to do this and hope others will as well. I want to get as much feedback and info as possible on who the team should draft, so that TexSkins and I can correctly draft in the upcoming SB Nation Mock Draft. Enjoy, edited slightly but not substantively.
Well, since it appears that my next post won't be for about two weeks I figured ot do my first mock early, then another in mid-April. Some of this stuff may seem a bit unorthodox or downright strange...but the draft is just that every year, to some degree.

MIA-CHRIS LONG-closest to a sure thing they'll get. he can play DE or OLB in a 3-4.
STL-Glen Dorsey-An impressive pro day will make the Rams continue to sure up they're abysmal line-OTs can be found in quality later
ATL-Brian Brohm-he may not have the fan fare of a Matt Ryan, but he's the most polished.
OAK-McFadden-they should draft Jake Long, but I just can't see McFadden making past this spot-even if it's not the Raiders.
KC-Matt Ryan-It's a little risky with no veteran to show him the ropes, but with the help he'll have on offense, he should produce at least marginally.
NYJ-Malcom Kelly-help the young QB Clemens and Coles.
NE-Quentin Groves-DE turned OLB his last year of college. With an aging LB corps, they need a good Tweener.
BAL-Jake Long-They should take Joe Flacco, who for some reason, may slip to the 2nd round-I assure, you, he shouldn't.
CIN-C. Campbell-duh, they suck on D for good reason-no one is there to make plays.
NO-Cedric Ellis-a DT to help push the pocket for their top DEs.
BUF-E. Doucet Lee Evans needs someone to take some heat off-anf this kid can do it. Don't forget the promising QB.
DEN-Clady-safe bet, but the Broncos have mulitple needs.
CAR-K Philips top safety prospect to fill the ugly void at FS
CHI-C. Williams-They really need a QB, but will sure up the line with a good run blocking Tackle.
DET-Cromartie
ARI-Keith Rivers-a good looking OLB prospect.
MIN-Joe Flacco-it's the only reasonable thing to do...Tavaris Jackson??? huh?
Hou-Mendenhall will pulverize anyone trying to tackle him-and with my cousin (by marriage) Ron Dayne cut, they need fresh legs for an aging Green and power (and he has really good hands)
PHI-P. Merling-Kearse is gone...who's gonna help with at least a semblance of a rush?
TB-Andre Caldwell-good fir here-not big, (6 foot, about 205) with with a little extra muscle, could be a perfect fit. He's fast, runs decent routes with good hands.
WAS-Leodis McKlevin-WHO?! Easily one of the top three corners in this draft. He isn't that well known, but his numbers are good and so is his techinique-not the best athelete at the position, but he can play ball-and will be a little cheaper, I think.
DAL-D. Jackson-(they would take Aqib, but they'll get Pacman) speedy WR to help the geriatric WR corps.
PIT-Graco-they need a G to replace the departed.
TEN-Aqib Talib-they may not take him because he is a potenial headache, but he can do all that Pacman does-though not quite as well in coverage. they should get a WR-but Aqib can do that too.
SEA-Morgan-they still need help at S
JAX-Vernon Gholston-they have a good line, but no rush
SD-Mario Manningham-a deep threat at WR
DAL-Flowers-not fast, but a good technician at CB
SF-R. Smith-he can play CB or S-they could use both.
GB-Cason-Their starting 2 CBs are a combined 66 years old...still good, but will get no better.
NYG-Bell-while I was tempted to say little D will grab him (they do need LB help) they can back the position later. The G-Men need a new MLB and the kid's the best (ILB) of the draft-I wonder if he'll make it this far back...

Well, tell me the idiot I am...this should be fun.

Draft Day Predictions

For the sake of killing time on my lunch break, I will make some predicitons concerning draft day trades...teams I think will wiggle.

Now, first, I will bring up Darth Vader-that is, Jerry Jones. So many rumblings of him moving up for McFadden. While I think it would be wise for him to stick with Marion Barber-a ferocious runner (anyone remember when he broke at least three tackles in his own endzone to turn a short gain last season? That really is noteworhty). I believe that Dimitroff, Falcons GM will say "screw the chart, give me those two late first round picks". And there Jerry is-getting his Franchise RB. I believe the Dolphins will manage to move-with whom, we'll never know til then. Parcells is going ot completely overhaul that team, and unless he takes Chris Long, I expcet him to make a deal with a team like Bills, Bengals, or for some odd reason, the Cowgulrs. Also, I expect the Broncos to make a possible move...that's just a weird hunch.

I figure to do a first round mock in a week or so...just because...

Or that of the Skins? I heard Vinny said that we build via the draft from here on out.

I think the biggest negative of the Gibbs 2.0 era (besides it's abrupt end) is the fact that I believe a major reason why ridiculous contracts where commonplace is because he were trying to get anyone he wanted-and generally, he deserved as much. We, however, deserved a full contract fulfillment, but whatever.

I believe we will do well in this new stratgey, and it keeps me from bemoaning our once pitch black future-yay, there is a glimmer still.

you Betts I'm angry!

another post from Sporting News.com...it's kinda got under my skin...hope it's not true:

Ladell Betts - RB
When Joe Gibbs arrived, he was told Betts was no better than a backup. Then, in 2006, Betts gained 1,154 yards and averaged 4.7 yards per carry after Clinton Portis was lost to a variety of injuries. Now, Jim Zorn is being told the same thing about Betts. (Paul Woody for SN)

I have long been a Betts supporter, and it is apparent he could start for anywhere from one-third to one-half of the teams in the NFL. If he were a step faster and a bit more agile, he would be a perfect West Coast running back. He is just good all-around and excels in pass catching as far as runners go. Whaddy'all think?

The more research I do on the movement this off season, and choosing to at least consider history as a lesser guide on my feelings, here goes the crazines...

I think that the skins shouldn't pick a WR at #21 this year...the odds are against them that he will pan out. I do certainly think they should pick up that guy (sorry, don't remember right now) that's 6'6 220 in round two-he's projected to go in late round two to early round 3. I also think that the skins should pursue a CB on the first round-I'd love to have Samuels via FA, but I don't see 10 mil a year with our constant cap issues...

Though, if the team is going to pay someone 10 mil a year, I'm crazy enough to advocate Chris Long-yes, it requires a trade-up, but the Fins are more than willing to trade down, word has it...and that the youth we need on the line. At 278 pounds, he's more of a RE, but it can certainly happen. A guarg can be picked up in the third round, or we can keep Pete Kendell in the mix. A backup OLB is a key priority, as I don't really trust Rocky to stay healthy...not that I'm ready to hope on the Briggs train, yet.

Draft Day Not Far Away

And I can't wait! I've gotten more interested in the draft over the last couple seasons, and will be delving even deeper this year.

Last year, I kinda made myself the unofficial draft analysis guy (or was I just trying to hear myself talk...so to speak?) and I intend to provide lots of info again this year, time permitting. As it is, I'm sincerely hoping that we pick up a nice, big WR this year in the first round-there is likely a guy in the second, I haven't really started researching yet.

As for the offseason, we can pick up a top-tier CB and show the ever-aging Springs the door. If I read correctly, Marcus Trufant will be available, and I think he's about 27...Zorn would likely give him a look as he may have watched him through a QB's eyes whilst he was in SEA.
