According to Pro Football Talk, Jon Gruden has been fired.

Man that sucks, 3 weeks goes by, all the good jobs are taken, then you get your walking papers.

The GM is also gone, so they are looking for a totally new direction, though I never thought they were in that much trouble. If I remember right Derrick Brooks got hurt, then they fell of at the end of the season.

So where do you think he lands?

KC? St Louis? Hawks QB coach?

Understanding the Plan 2009

I love mock drafts, just love to browse them all over the internet and see what they are thinking. This year though, as I went through the different drafts (here's a good list http://dcprosportsreport.com/MockDraft.htm ) they all seem to think the same thing--Crabtree WR, and it seems like a fundimental mis-understanding of the needs of the Seahawks.

If you look at our team now, what are the positions that seem like they need filling?

DT, WR, OG

Other spots that could use an improvment from the outsiders view

CB, FS, DE

So what people seem to be thinking is that we have a hole for WR so lets get Crabtree, he's awesome. But we don't really, not in Ruskell's view. Each of those spots has been addressed in some way already in the past drafts with an eye for the future.

DT: Red Bryant, Lawrence Jackson (In a Hybrid kinda way)

WR: Courtney Taylor, Jordan Kent, Obomanu. Even Logan Payne, Bumpus, and Branch from non draft sources.

OG: Sims, Wrotto, Vallos, Pat Murray

CB: Get a clue people

FS: Adams? We'll get back to this.

DE: Jackson, Atkins, Tapp

Our big failing this year with our WR hole is that it happend much faster then anticipated. We though, lets plug an in-experienced under-developed project like Kent into the hole and it'll be good! Yet Ruskell's been drafting high ceiling people in the low rounds knowing they would need a few years to breakout.

So the positions that seem like holes, really already have someone destined for the position, is being groomed and isn't really a hole.

If we were to draft Crabtree, it would be great, we would be adding 1 young stud too a list of 5 young recievers (Taylor, Kent, Obomanu, Payne, Bumpus) that we've been getting experience and already have a leg up on him.

From this we can somewhat deduce the holes that have actually formed and target somewhat what TR's true desires are. Don't count out best available talent in the first round though. While I just argued that drafting Crabtree would create a glut, if he's the best person at the slot its probable that he becomes a seahawk. (In my opinion anyway).

So from that, what holes do we really have?

If your TR, you could say we don't have any.

T: Walters fine, and we got Willis and Lock

S: Adams, CJ Wilson (heh I know), Babs (Yea heh again)

QB: Give Frye a chance! Matt's still good for a while longer.

Realisticly, these 3 positions could really use some elite level talent. Either as kids to groom, or start right away. But the best thing we have going for us is that we really can pick the best available talent. And that will be either a QB, Tackle, or DT.

Call me sentimental but I really think DT is a priority for TR after Tubbs is now MIA.

* I too think Logan Payne is done never to be heard from again.

Our Future LT?

I was reading a bit about the last pre-season game and saw a few comments on how Jarred Allen was winning some battles on Walter Jones. Accompanied with John's comments about how we were insane not to draft a replacement/understudy for Walter this year and I'm guessing that this issue will be at the top of next years todo list.

Now it seems weird to bring this up, but as we all are watching a lot of college games this year (I do anyway) I was hoping to keep my eye's out for any possible future Seahawk left tackles out there.

Based on early rankings of some of the LT out there and thier projected draft status, here are the guys to keep an eye on.

Source: http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2009OT.php

Michael Oher, Ole Miss

Andre Smith*, Alabama

Eugene Monroe, Virginia

Ciron Black*, LSU

Alex Boone, Ohio State

They get shuffled around a bit, but those seem to be the major players. Some other links to check out

http://cfn.scout.com/2/720438.html

http://www.nfldraftdog.com/2009_NFL_Draft/2009_nfl_draft_value_board.htm

http://www.fftoolbox.com/nfl_draft/2009/top-nfl-prospects-for-2009.cfm?pos=OL

These are the guys I'll be watching pretty closely to see what their made of. Based on the reports, I'm hoping everyone but Michael Oher on the Ole Miss line falls apart, and their quaterback goes blind so that he falls to us.

(Note, I realize these ranks mean nothing, but its all I got.)

Blitz is in competition for the most fierce mascot in the NFL, but we are currently losing.

http://www.sportsline.com/spin/story/10860772

Its just not right for us to lose to philly.

Strangely we are loosing by the same amount that we beat the St. Louis rams by, and they didn't even have a mascot. Is blitz that uncool?

http://www.sportsline.com/spin/story/10851296

So common guys, lets win this one for John. Or Scruffy.

I love Kelly Jennings

Babs with that stop of Romo on the way to the endzone, that was awesome.

Tatupu with that toss in the endzone to try to get a touchtown, that was balls.

Who would of thought it would be Jerremy Stevens with 2 touchdowns to account for all our TD's?

We've lost Hackett and Jackson though, were losing doods quick, all the more reason to just start playing a 40 yard passing game. Who's with me?

Espn is reporting that we traded a 1st round pick for Deion Branch.

I'm curious who gets cut to open up space for him?

This is great news, though a 1st rounder is pretty heavy. If the offensive line can give Hasselbeck some time to throw, then we should be pretty fearsome.

Link: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2583149

According to this (somewhat bad) calculation of players salaries based on thier production the Mariners are grossly overpaid.

http://www.protrade.com/athletes/AthleteMoneyballDetails.html?sp=SMLB&sp=Steam&sp=KT50306149 &x=x

Some quick notes

Most underpaid:
Jose Lopez

Most overpaid:
Richie Sexson
