Still two weeks till training camp starts for our beloved Raiders. So while waiting for our many offseason questions to be answered, I offer up a small debate type post on a topic my friends and I have been debating for a while now. Who's the best 3 at each musical position in a standard rock/metal band. I'm interested to hear what you all consider to be our top 3's.

The positions that need covered are:

Singer

Rhythm Guitar (optional)

Lead Guitar

Bassist

Drummer

Here's my top 3 of each:

Singer:

1. Ronnie James Dio

Singer for Elf, Black Sabbath (post-Ozzy era), Rainbow, Dio, and Heaven and Hell

This week, we put the dynamic Thomas Howard under the microscope. And no, i'm not talking about the Duke of Norfolk.

Drafted in 06, Howard would have a fairly good rookie showing with 84 tackles, 4.5 for loss, and 2 passes defended. The Raiders love speed as everyone knows, but this speed prospect showed early on that he was one of, if not the, fastest linebackers in the NFL. Able to shoot through the line to make stops or chase down guys from behind. And that's just in the running game. Howard could cover anything form speed backs, to tight ends, to even receivers. Tell him to cover it, and he'll do so very well.

In 07, we'd see Howard jump from speedy linebacker, to feared pass defender. 11 passes defended and a linebacker leading 6 interceptions. 2 of which he would take back for TD's. His legs proved hm well with interceptions as he would have a linebacker leading 172 interception return yards. Just like Morrison, Howard too would have a streak of three weeks in a row with an interception. That's not even mentioning his 78 tackles, 4.5 for loss, and 1 sack. I was incredibly shocked not to see Howard get a bid to the Pro Bowl.

However, also like Morrison, Howard would slump in 08. With 80 tackles and only 2.5 for loss and only 1 interception. However his pass defense number would still be good with 5 passes defended. Howard was still a force in the passing game to be sure, but it seems that like Nnamdi, he too was avoided. With teams able to throw on the safeties, Hall, and even CJ in the early going, there was no need to risk a pick-six by throwing to #53.

But, I have high hopes for Howard this year. Though the safety spot is still very iffy this year, Chris Johnson has become a dangerous cornerback, so some attention may be taken away for the Law Firm of Howard and Morrison (I'm still waiting for the cop show). It also appears that Alston may be getting the SLB spot, which would add yet another force in the pass defense to the linebackers. Howard still needs to work on his run stopping and I look forward to see if he'll get to use that speed to blitz this year. Which I fail to see why he wouldn't.

My expectations for Howard, continue to expect tackle numbers in the 80's, but I see at least 6 for loss this year. Though I don't think he'll have another 6 interception season, I believe 4 interceptions seems about right for him and I think you'll see one turn into a pick-six. I look forward to see what Howard will bring to the table this year as arguably our best playmaker on defense.

-Random Thoughts: Training Camp Preview-

Training camp is almost here and I couldn't be any more excited. Look for a lot of competition this year. Whether it be a minor competition of third string QB, or one as major as the starting running back or starting strongside linebacker. To me there's a only a few guaranteed starting spots.

QB: Jamarcus Russell

TE: Zach Miller

LG: Robert Gallery

RG: Cooper Carlisle

DT: Tommy Kelly

WLB: Thomas Howard

MLB: Kirk Morrison

CB's: Asomugha and Johnson

P/K: Seabass and Shane

Everything else is wide-open. Who knows how well O'Neal will play coming back this year (if he even does, whih he should), will Alston keep playing at his OTA level, who going to start at what offensive tackle spots, and many more questions. The top three things I'm going to be watching in training camp: the backup tight end battle, the starting strongside linebacker battle, and the battle for the starting safeties. The reason that the wide receiver competition wasn't on my list is because I know that two of four people will start this year. Any combination of Schilens, Higgins, Walker, and Murphy.

Wait? The rookie Louis Murphy? Indeed. Cable has credited him as the best rookie among the entire group. And I don't blame him. The same speed as DHB, better hands from what I've read, and most importantly, no major hammy issues. If DHB wants a shot to even be our #3 receiver, he has to get his hamstrings to stop giving him troubles. Only then can he get his hands to the level of Murphy's. I'm hoping he went to Russell's passing camp, because he has a lot of work to do.

My predicted roster/depth chart by the end of training camp ( / are used to separate first, second, and third string) :

QB: Russell/Garcia/Gradkowski

RB: Fargas/McFadden/Bush

FB: Neal/O'Neal

TE: Miller/Myers

WR's: Schilens/Higgins/Murphy/Walker/DHB/possibly Watkins

LT: Henderson/Pears

LG: Gallery/Morris

C: Satele/Wade/Morris

RG: Carlisle/McQuistan/M. Johnson

RT: Barnes/Green/M. Johnson

DE's (I'm not good with right and left): Ellis/Richardson/Scott/Burgess or Gunheim

WLB: Howard/Ekejiuba

MLB: Morrison/Brown/Condo

SLB: Alston/Brown/Williams

CB's: Asomugha/C. Johnson/Routt/Miller

FS: Branch/Eugene

SS: Huff/Mitchell (yes I think Huff will see a chance to start early on)

K: Jano

P: Lechler

PR: Higgins

KR: Miller

So what are your thoughts on training camp?

Author's note- Sorry for the late post. Had a long week and was going to have a draft of this beforehand but just couldn't get to it.

Welcome one and all to the fourth issue of the Weekly Raider. There's a lot of things in-store for you in this issue. Michael Bush, my thoughts on 50 years of glorious Raider football, the featured fan, and some announcements below. Enjoy, and go Raiders!!!

-Weekly Raider: RB #29 Michael Bush-

Once a superstar running back out of Louisville, Bush is now a member of the most talented Raiders' backfields since the days of Marcus Allen and Bo Jackson. However Bush's story is not all glory and sunshine.

Back in his days at Louisville, Bush was an instant college star. His combination of tough running, surprising speed for his size, and great hands made him arguably the best running back in the NCAA. But then came a grim day.

One evening at the University of Kentucky, Bush's 13th. ranked Louisville team was set to face off against in-state rival Kentucky. Bush takes the handoff but gets stuffed in the backfield and is leg moves in a very awkward manner. Bush fails to get up and fans stare down awestruck at the sight before them.

Michael Bush Injury (via mgoblog)

Bush's broken leg would keep him out the rest of the season. After which Bush would apply for the draft. A sure-fire first round pick, Bush would fall all the way down to the fourth round where an eager and rebuilding Raiders team would immediately snatch him up.

Bush wouldn't see action his first year as his leg still needed to heal up. But when the 08 season rolled around, Bush would prove he still had first round talent. Bush's hard running and speed would serve him wel through the season despite very limited carries. His stats week by week:

Week 2 vs. Chiefs- 16 rushes, 90 yards, 1 touchdown

Week 3 vs. Bills- 14 rushes, 55 yards, 0 touchdowns

Week 4 vs. Chargers- 14 rushes, 48 yards, 0 touchdowns

Week 6 vs.Saints- 3 rushes, 9 yards

Week 8 vs. Ravens- 6 rushes, 10 yards, 0 touchdowns

Week 9 vs. Falcons- 3 rushes, -2 yards, 0 touchdowns

Week 10 vs. Panthers- 8 rushes, 30 yards, 0 touchdowns

Week 12 vs. Broncos- 2 rushes, 0 yards, 0 touchdowns

Week 14 vs. Chargers- 2 rushes, 4 yards, 0 touchdowns

Week 17 vs. Buccaneers- 27 rushes, 177 yards, 2 touchdowns

So when given carries, Bush can really rack up the yardage. Worth noting, he was injury free all year.

My expectations this year for Michael Bush; I personally think he should be the starting back because he's the most complete back. If he doesn't start though, I'm positive he'll see plenty more carries than he did last year.

I say he'll have about 850 rushing yards, 350 receiving yards, and 8 touchdowns in total as he should be the short-yardage and redzone running back.

-Random Thoughts: 50 years of Raiders Football-

I'm not a guy who likes to live in the past, but since this the Raiders 50th. season, let's reminise a bit.

Things would start rough for Oakland in their first few years. But form the late 60's to the mid 80's, the Raiders would post the highest win percentage of nay team in the AFL/NFL. In this timespan, Raiders fans were privileged to watch legends such as Ken Stabler, Dayle Lominica, Jim Plunkett, Cliff Branch, Dave Casper, Fred Biletnikoff, Todd Christiansen, Marcus Allen, Mark Van Eeghen, Art Shell, Gene Upshaw, Jim Otto, Howie Long, Willie Brown, Lester Hayes, Michael Haynes, Jack Tatum, George Atkinson, Ray Guy, George Blanda, and many more dominate the sport of football.

With three Super bowl blowout victories, the Raiders of the modern day have been lacking. In the late 90's and early 2000's, the Raiders would make a bit of a comeback with players like Rich Gannon, Jerry Rice, and Tim Brown, but would be decimated against the Bucs in the latest Super Bowl appearence. Since then, the Raiders have been in a tailspin of epic proportions. But you all are more than aware of that so I won't go in detail.

However, through it all, Raider fans have stayed devoted and hopeful. The Raiders have been slowly improving and the future is looknig bright. May this 50th. year be the beginning of another great 50 years of Raiders football.

-Featured Fan: Toozak-

Another one of the Raiders most well-dressed fans, Toozak is covered in spikes, skulls, studs, and of course Raider patches and logos. I know if I was a fan of the opposing team, I wouldn't want to run into this guy in the parking lot after the game. However, Toozak is one of the most well-mannered and polite Raiders fans. Though his appearence doesn't show it. As our featured fan, he's your random picture.

-Announcements-

A couple announcements for the Weekly Raider. Once training camp and preseason begins, the weekly raider will no longer be a player chosen by you, but a player that I think is worth watching for in preseason and camp. You know, someone who training camp will be major for. Whether that be for a battle for a starting role, or to see if they'll even make the roster.

Last announcement, once fall rolls around, I might not be able to post the Weekly Raider some weeks. Basketball season will be starting up at my school in November. Practices and games might not allow me to be able to post the Weekly Raider. In which case I'll either ask RaiderWay to post the Weekly Raider, or appoint one of you to.

That is all. Thank you for reading and go Raiders!

Alright all, thank you for continuing your subscription of Raider goodness with The Weekly Raider. You know the drill our Weekly Raider, my thoughts, and of course the Featured Fan. Also, make sure you read on past the Featured Fan for some announcements on what's going to be changing with the Weekly Raider as time goes on. Hope you enjoy.

-Weekly Raider- #52 Kirk Morrison LB-

via farm4.static.flickr.com

At the center of the Raiders D lies a humble linebacker. A linebacker with pass coverage skills that you won't find often in the NFL. A linebacker with speed that's unparalleled by any other linebacker in the middle of anyother NFL defense. Making up 1/2 of the formidable Law Firm, that linebacker is the one and only Kirk Morrison. And he is your Weekly Raider.

Drafted in 05, Morrison actually played his first year at the Sam linebacker spot, not the Mike. For people not as football inclined, that means he played strongside instead of middle. In that year, Morrison defended two passes and had 116 tackles, showing early on he was a sure tackler and good pass defender.

However, his rookie season was the only season he would play Sam. For in 2006, he would be moved to the middle linebacker spot. And it looked ike a good move from the get-go. Morrison would rack up 128 tackles, 5 passes defended, 2 interceptions, and a sack. It seemed the move to the middle of the defense was going to be a very good one. Morrison was beocming a young star in only two years.

The next year would be even better for Morrison. In 2007, Morrison would become a dominate middle linebacker with 120 tackles, an amazing 10 passes defended, a sack, and 4 interceptions. There was even a three week span during the season where Morrison would have an interception each week. If anything, Kirk was a QB's nightmare as a Mike linebacker. And with Morrison stats showing he improved each year, everyone was sure he was bound for Pro Bowl status.

However, the 08 season would be a relapse for Morrison. He would have career highs in tackles and forced fumbles with 135 tackles and 2 forced fumbles. However many of these tackles were after the back had gained 5 yards. His tackles weren't up at the line taking the running back head-on, but rather from taking down the back from behind. True his speed stopped the back from possibly getting much more, but he wasn't that run stuffer he had shown he could be in the past. He also would post a career low for passes defended with only 1, that one was also his lone interception of the year.

However this does not mean Morrison has peaked by any means. His tackle numbers have been over 100 every year of his career and he's never not played in a game. He just needs some improvement. Many have stated he should go back to the Sam spot where his speed he can have more impact, such as blitzing from the outside or taking down runs from the outside. I myself am in agreement with this. His speed would be much better utilized here, especially in coverage. Instead of having to go form sideline to sideline to help with the pass D, he would only have to use that speed to cover one side. Plus this would be on the QB's right side, their favored side. With more passes and more runs directed his way, Morrison would be in a better position to be more productive.

Others have said that a simple change in defensive scheme would help him. Allowing him to use his speed to shoot up into the backfield from the middle on run blitzes is something we've all been clamoring for, for years now. With marshall, we might see that. But it's unkown if he's even going to change that much with the defensive scheme.

Needless to say, Morrison is still a young gem at linebacker. He's incredibly fast and a outstanding in pass coverage. He's a sure tackler, even though a lot of those tackles come at the wrong time during a play. Plus he's very tough, never missing a game in his career and playing 4 full, 16 game seasons. Morrison is one of the shining stars on the Raiders defense, and is your Weekly Raider.

-Random Thoughts: Russell's passing camp-

We've all read stories on Russell's passing camp. Taking the receivers and tight ends (though no word on if QB's other than Russell are coming) and going to an undisclosed location to work on their passing game. Is Russell taking responsibility and showing his leadership and hard work? Or is Cable been urging him to? Either way, it's nice to see Russell's going to work to improve not only his game, but the game of his receiving targets.

And from what I've read from the OTA's, this is much-needed. Seems that the timing is pretty off between Russell and his teammates, so this can only do good. And with so much youth and inexperience in the receiving corps, this should help the young guys get more adapted to the NFL game. I only hope Heyward-Bey will be able to make it out there. Everyone knows, he could use it. But those are thoughts for another day.

-Featured Fan- Gorilla Rilla-

Easily Oakland's most legendary fan, and one of the most legendary fans in the sports world, Gorilla Rilla is one of the most die-hard Raider fans. He goes to every game, home or away, and has been for a long time. From the Gorilla Rilla T-Shirt, to the special Gorilla Rilla pass he wears round his neck, to the unforgettable gorilla suit, Gorilla Rilla is one of the best costumred Raiders fans I've seen. And from people I've talked to who've sat with him at games, he's one of the loudest fans as well. Going to charity events, and gladly hanging out with and playing with kids, he's also a very good person. He's also this week's Featured Fan.

Even though he most likely won't see it, here's his random pic.

-Announcements-

A few announcments in regards to the Weekly Raider. As you've can see by my late release date, The Weekly Raider will now be posted on Tuesdays instead of Mondays to be more convenient for the start of the NFL season, with Monday being full of post-sunday NFL game discussions and Monday Night Football talk.

Also when the seaosn starts, Weekly Raider will go over the highlights and moments from that week's Raider game. And the Weekly Raider will be my MVP from the Raiders that week.

And also as you can see form this week's featured fan, the featured fan will no longer just be for this blog's members, but the entire Raiders community. I feel that the Featured Fan should be part of the entire Raider nation and not this one site's fans.

That's all for this week. read the poll and make sure to stop by next week for more Raiders reading.

Greetings, and welcome to the second issue of the Weekly Raider. This issue is jam-packed with plenty of good reading. With my take on the ever-explosive Darren McFadden, my opinion on who our backup TE should be, and of course the Featured Fan. Hope you enjoy!

-Featured Raider- #20 Darren McFadden, RB-

via www1.pictures.gi.zimbio.com

From the most explosive, dynamic, and versatile running back in college at Arkansas, to arguably Okaland's greatest offensive weapon; Darren McFadden is more than just a typical Raiders speed pick. McFadden brings a lot to the table. From his infamous legs, to his potent jukes, to his soft hands, to legendary stiff arm, to his tremendous upper body strength; McFadden looks to be a much more utilized back in Oakland's stacked backfield.

McFadden had a rough rookie year to say the least. After a good showing against Denver and tearing up KC's defense, things started to go downhill for the rookie back. After Fargas was injured in Kansas City, McFadden took over the starting role in of the most run-heavy offenses in the NFL. A tough task for any rookie.

Then you throw in a turf toe and limited carries by Bush, and McFadden had his work cut out for him. He couldn't run as smooth, couldn't maneuver as well, and couldn't run as hard. And this is just his role as a running back that suffered. He still had to pass block and run routes. Then there was also apparently a second turf toe and some reports of a shoulder injury.

However, as Bush's carries went up a bit and Fargas eventually got back to playing, McFadden starting getting back to his old form. Just seemed the season wasn't long enough for him to get over 500 yards rushing though. But with injuries and reduced carries down the stretch, it's not really his fault.

All in all though, McFadden had far from a bad year. 499 yards rushing, 285 receiving, and 4 rushing TD's. McFadden showed us what he's capable of in limited action, and most of that action being injured. Imagine a healthy Darren. I'm thinking 800 yards rushing, over 500 receiving, and at least 6 total TD's for next year. However this is assuming his new custom Nike's (made just for his turf toe problems) work and he avoids injuries for the most part.

Whether he's running like a throughbred in the backfield, catching passes from the backfield, lining up at receiver, or maybe even playing some QB from the Wildcat, McFadden is a weapon that every team must account for. If they don't, you can count on McFadden to blaze them for a 30 yard run, or run a sweep for a touchdown in the redzone (remember that Denver fans?)

A good kid, a speed demon, and a true Raider.

-Random Thoughts: Backup TE-

This has always been an interesting topic of discussion since Miller came aboard the Oakland Raiders, who will be the TE opposite him. Who can be that blocker to free Miller up to make plays? Who can be that guy who can catch some passes of his own to confuse the D on occassion?

With two-TE sets looking to be the staple of the Oakland ground game and some of the air attack this year, this seems like the perfect time to revive the discussion.

As it stands, Oakland has 6 TE's on roster.

1. Zach Miller- next great Oakland TE. Great pass catcher, good blocker, good speed for a TE of his size.

2. Brandon Myers- 6th. round pick. Great blocker in college. Good set of hands.

3. Chris O'Neill- UDFA. Not much info on him

4. Darrell Strong- UDFA from last year. Another good blocker. Probably second best pass catcher on roster at TE.

5. John Paul Foschi- former Raider. Can play TE and FB. Also plays special teams. Hasn't done much thus far.

6. Tony Stewart- last year's backup. Good blocker but was kept mostly for special teams.

The competition for backup TE looks to be a good one and is the competition I want to see the most. I'd persoanlly like to see the job go to either Strong or Myers. Mainly because both are young and have the ideal skill sets. Great blocker in both the run and pass game, and both have the size and hands to make some tough catches and be matchup nightmares for smaller safeties and linebackers.

Strong is the faster of the two from what I've heard and made some good plays last year in traning camp. And I haven't heard anything bad from him this offseason.

I've had the opportunity to see Myers when he played for Iowa multiple times. And quite frankly, I didn't notice him. But that's not a bad thing. Iowa ran a lot of two-TE packages and had was a great running tream. Myers blocked frequently and was practically a third offensive tackle up front for the Hawkeyes.

I'm hoping Oakland keeps both of these TE's so they can develop and become even better. And for our two-TE sets, both are invauable assets to have on our team.

Rated-R Superstar has inspired me to begin a series I like to call The Weekly Raider. The series will include: a Raiders player, their bio, stats, my expectations for them this season, and an overall analysis; my thoughts Raider-wise, and since this is the weekly Raider I'll feature a Raiders fan. Check back each week, you might be my featured fan. So without further ado, The Weekly Raider.

Hello Raiders fans of the world, I present issue #1 of The Weekly Raider. Today's issue will feature our very own Nnamdi Asomugha, my thoughts on the OTA's so far, and of course, our featured fan. So let's get started!

Featured Raider- Nnamdi Asomugha, CB

via images.dailyradar.com

The pride of the Raider defense, and the pride of the Raiders team as a whole, Nnamdi Asomugha. Nnamdi has went from low-brow corner mysterously taken in the first round, to the best corner in the NFL. Nnamdi can cover litteraly any receiver in the NFL and can get an interception on any play thrown to his isde of the field. He's such a major threat, that QB's hardly ever pass to the man he's covering. (Nnamdi has had the fewest passes attempted on his man in the NFL the past two years)

From Andre Johnson, to Randy Moss, to Steve Smith; Nnamdi covers them all. Easily the smartest corner in the league, he makes up for not being the fastest of corners, by being the most maneuverable and agile. Steve Smith can beat him in a footrace, but Nnamdi has the moves and angles to stay right on the heels of the NFL's fastest.

However, his lack of interceptions the past two years has kept him still unknown to a lot of people. Even with his new prowess as the best corner in Madden and a Pro Bowl appearance, people still scratch thier heads at the name Nnamdi Asomugha. However, with hopefully a fellow skilled corner in Chris Johnson on the field with him this year, Nnamdi might see some more passes, and more interceptions. If you don't believe me, look at how well he covered some of the NFL's best last year.

Week 1: Brandon Stokley- 2 receptions, 25 yards, 0 TD

Week 2: Dwayne Bowe/Tony Gonazales- 11 receptions, 129 yards, 1 TD (Nnamdi covered both at different times)

Week 3: Lee Evans- 4 receptions, 65 yards, 0 TD

Week 4: Chris Chambers/Antonio Gates- 7 receptions, 100 yards, 1 TD (covered both at different times)

Week 5: N/A

Week 6: Deverey Henderson- 2 receptions, 68 yards, 0 TD

Week 7: Laveranues Coles- 4 receptions, 51 yards, 0 TD

Week 8: Derek Mason/Todd Heap- 3 receptions, 20 yards, 0 TD (covered both at different times)

Week 9: Roddy White- 5 receptions, 54 yards, 0 TD

Week 10: Steve Smith- 1 reception, 9 yards, 0 TD. Nnamdi got his lone interception of the year covering Steve Smith.

Week 11: Ted Ginn Jr.- 4 receptions, 51 yards, 0 TD.

Week 12: Brandon Marshall- 4 receptions, 84 yards, 0 TD

Week 13: Dwayne Bowe/Tony Gonzales- 10 receptions, 137 yards, 0 TD (covered both at different times)

Week 14: Malcom Floyd- 1 reception, 19 yards, 0 TD

Week 15: Randy Moss- 5 receptions, 67 yards, 2 TD

Week 16: Andre Johnson- 2 receptions, 19 yards, 0 TD

Week 17: N/A

What do I expect from Nnamdi this year? I expect much of the same of what I saw last year. But I expect about 3 interceptions. I think Chris Johnson will be good enough that QB's will throw a few more passes Nnamdi's way. Nnamdi alos dropped a couple would-be interceptions last year, don't expect that this year.

Nnamdi is definitely the Raiders' leader, on the field and off it.

Random Thoughts- OTA's

OTA's, basically just practice. But practice makes perfect, and right now a lot of Raiders need practice. Mainly JaMarcus Russell.

I know this is only June, but June is only two months from preseason, which is only a few weeks from the regualr season. Russell has been sloppy all offseason and isn't getting much better. he's had a few good moments, but more bad than good. Overthrowing receivers, underthrowing receivers, not getting rid of the ball quick enough, basically he looks like Aaron Brooks out there.

However there is plenty of hope. The O-Linemen can't be as physical, Miller (aka Russell's golden boy) has been out most of the time, and the running game is still going to be our offense's primary weapon. And since OTA's thus far have revolved around situational stuff, Russell's been passing more than he would normally have to. I'm sure Russell will be just fine, but I can't help being a little nervous.

Is it just me, or does the defense sound like it's really good? Once again, I'm aware that the O-Line can't be very physical whatsoever, but people like Alston and Chris Johnson seem like they are going to be very good this year.

Featured Fan- Rated-R Superstar

Rated-R has been a very devoted fan to the Raiders and easily one of the most active members of this blog. His DLD's have kept us up-to-date and informed Raiders and NFL-wise. He's always on top of all the latest news in the world, sports or otherwise. Rated-R has always been funny, fun-loving, and optimistic and is one of my favorite Raider brethren.
My god is it dull in the world of the NFL? I wouldn't know, I don't watch ESPN for fear of hearing crap statements about the Raiders draft. So I thought to liven things up, I'd throw you some music. Now I'm mainly a metal man, but I'll also give you some softer soothing stuff. But first, I'd like to share my top-25 bands list:

I highly recommend all of these bands if you've never heard them.

Now for some music.

WARNING: MANY OF THESE SONGS CONTAIN FOUL LANGUAGE

Korn- Freak on a Leash. Listen to the metal beat boxing. so epic!!! Great song, one of my faves

Dope- Dirty World. Incredible song. A great song to listen to when you want to take your anger out on something. Lyrics are great.

Johnny Cash- Hurt. Last song by Cash before he died. Such a sad song. Very beautiful. You have to hear this no matter what.

Killswitch Engage- Holy Diver. Their cover of the great song by Dio. Both versions are equally amazing. I recommened listening to both versions, but I'll post this one.

The Sword- The Black River. This needs to be played at Raider games. The Sword sounds like a modern day Black Sabbath, but wihout Ozzy. Personally, I think The Sword is far better than Sabbath. This is a very good song, lsiten closely to how great the drums are.

The Cool Kids- Bassment Party. For those rap fans out there. This song is very good and my favorite Cool Kids song other than "88". However I felt more like posting Bassment Party. Listen to that beat.

Colin Hay- Beautiful World. For those who don't know Cloin Hay, he's the singer for Men At Work. He did a solo project of just him playing guitar and the result is some of the most beautiful and peaceful songs i've ever heard. A must hear, this song will relax you so much.

That should be enough for you all for now. These are just some of my favorite songs and I think everyone will like at least one of them.

Now then, if you have songs you want to post on here, please feel free to dump some links onto the comments section.

Why This Was a Good Draft

I know many of you are enraged about the draft, even I was. But when you take time to really look at the picks and think about they can be used, this was actually a very successful draft and it tells you what kind of team Oakland will be this year. So let's calm down and make some logic on these picks.

via static.zooomr.com

1st. round: Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR

via www.blitzmagonline.com

Heyward-Bey at #7 may have been a reach, yes, but this was in reality the best pick for us. Heyward-Bey is ungodly fast, we all know that. He's faster than nearly every corner in the league and has the moves to get separation and to get yards after the catch. In Ted Tollner's system, this is a must. Tollner is a downfield passing guy, which has historically been the raiders philosophy. But over the last few years, we've never had that one guy who's always blazing a trail downfield. Heyward-bey gives us that. True he is inconsistent catching the ball, but if he catches one of those 60-yard bombs we have a touchdown. That instant score threat then in turn causes the opposing defense to focus on him more. This then opens things up with some HB Draw plays and passes underneath to the RB and TE. And if the D blitzes then they can get beat big time.

Now i know everyone is saying, "but Crabtree was there!" yes he was, but he would not have been the right pick for our system. Crabtree is more of a possession guy, and while that would be very nice to have, he doesn't fit our system and isn't that threat that the D has to respect downfield. There's also no telling whether or not Crabtree's injury may have lasting effects or not.

Back to Bey; Bey shares the two common qualities of all of our draft picks. Potential, and great work-ethic. He has the work-ethic to be there working with the coaches to reach that great potential to improve on his catching consistency.

This was a system pick and a good one at that.

Pick Grade: B+

2nd. Round: Mike Mitchell, S

via graphics.fansonly.com

Okay when he's the face of the Ohio University football program, you know you've got a special player. Mitchell is one of the hardest hitting safeties in this year's draft. if you don't believe me, check this highlight video of him. He's very fast with a 4.43 forty and uses that speed to go from side line to sideline to make a play. I watched a couple Ohio football games and no matter where the play was, Mitchell was near it or making the stop.

I compare Mitchell to Sean Taylor. He's fast, good in coverage, (still a little shaky but better than what Wilson was) and lays a gruesome hit. I have noticed though that he tries to lay a big hit rather than a sure tackle, which does lead to some missed or sloppy tackles. However, for the most part, he's a great tackler. Definitely better than any of our other options at SS. That's not to say Mitchell will be playing strong though. Seems Cable like Branch for the spot and Mitchell is more than talented enough to start at FS. That interchangeability (big word) makes him that much better of a pick. Mitchell also shares a quality of Brian Dawkins. Leadership. And you can never have enough leadership on your defense. Also worth noting that he can play either zone or man defense very well.

Great pick to round off the secondary.

Pick grade: A

3rd. round: Matt Shaughnessy, DE

via cache.daylife.com

Not exactly a fast guy with a 4.85 forty, but it's good for his size at 6-5, 266. He's a solid tackler with 60 tackles, 18 for loss, and 5 sacks in a stellar junior season. During spring football last year he broke his fibula and needed suregery, and therefore didn't impress his senior year. Durability is a definite concern. He's fast, strong, and has good motor. He is, however, often blocked by a single lineman and isn't a real threat on the edge if he's held up off the snap. But he's a hard-worker and should get plenty of help from Board to work on his pass rush.

Plus he has a hilarious interview you know?

Pick grade: C

Round 4: Louis Murphy, WR

via heismanbrasil.files.wordpress.com

I know what you're thinking, another speedy receiver. I've heard others call him another higgins, which seems to be a bad thing. But is it really? Thin about it, Higgins should not only start at WR this year, but he's also starting at punt returner. With his thin frame, that could mean injuries. Enter murphy. Murphy is nearly identical to higgins and would be invaluable should Johnnie Lee "Blue-Suede Shoes" Higgins get injured. I know he came fro ma spread, but Florida was more of a pro-style, spread mix. Murphy had to run all your basic pro-style routes from a spread. Of all the spread receivers in the draft, he's one of the best and most polished route runners. Inconsistent in the passing game yes, but he's also one of those hard-workers. Worth noting he was a team captain. Also with that speed, he give us some of the same things Heyward-Bey does.

Pick grade: B

Round 4: Slade Norris, OLB/DE

via cache.daylife.com

At 6-2, 236, Norris isn't all that big for a LB (he would be the smallest one if he should start) and won't see much time unless he bulks up. However, as a blitzer in Marshall's system, he's invaluable. So much speed and that small size allows him to easily maneuver around O-Linemen and squeeze through holes in the O-Line to make plays behind the line or sack the QB. As a DE in college, he put up 58 tackles, 18.5 for loss, and 10 sacks. Can also play DE if that's what Oakland wants. The Raiders can really do whatever they want with him. Use him as a situational LB blitzer, quick DE off the edge, or bulk him up for more than just blitzing. They could also work on his pass coverage to make him a 3rd. down specialist. If Oakland develops him right, Norris could be the anti-passing SLB as a coverage man and blitzer.

Plus how sweet is the name Slade Norris?

Pick grade: C+

Round 6: Stryker Sulak, DE

via www.columbiamissourian.com

The one thing that sticks out about Stryker (other than that amazing name) is his amazing forced fumble count. NCAA-leading 6 forced fumbles last year. When he makes the hit he tries to knock it out. If he can get us a couple of those, that could make a huge difference in a game. Stryker also excels at penetration. 55 tackles, 15.5 for loss, and 10.5 sacks. It seems like Marshall's defense will be one that prides itself on getting into the backfield consistently. Not just plugging the holes, but going through them for some TFL's. Stryker is fast (4.69 forty) and is a real edge threat in the passing game. Shares the weakness of Shaughnessy of being held up by a single blocker. Can also play some LB.

Pick Grade: B

Round 6: Brandon Myers, TE

via pictopia.com

Athletic, physical TE. 6-4, 250 frame makes him a great blocker, which will be key in our two-TE packages. His blocking ability also allows Miller to make more plays in the passing game, instead of being an extra blocker. Myers himself can also do some damage on pass plays. He uses his big frame and wingspan to grab the errant passes. Not very fast or elusive, but he's not expected to be. More of a run blocker, he still does well pass blocking.

Pick Grade: B+

Overall draft grade: B

via felfire.files.wordpress.com

Well, maybe not a roulette wheel per say, but just like there are many numbers on a roulette wheel, there are many intriguing names in the second round of the draft for Oakland. There are many players that many of you have put as your ideal second round guy based on your ideal first round, let us now look at these players more in-depth.

The format as such will be:

Player's name, size, position, and college

Player's picture

Player Info and reason for selection

Combine numbers

First round scenario(s) that would lead us to draft said player

Highlights if available

-Jarron Gilbert, 6-5; 280 lbs., DE/DT, San Jose State-

via assets.sbnation.com

Jarron Gilbert is a freakish athlete who can play either DT or DE very effectively. A rare combination of pass rusher (9 sacks last year) and run stopper (51 tackles last year) which is precisely what Oakland needs. Gilbert has elevated his level of play each year and is still getting better and better. Big, strong, fast, a combo Oakland's been missing from its DE's for years.

40-yard dash: 4.87

Bench Press: 28 reps

Vertical Jump: 35.5

Broad Jump: 9'11"

3-cone drill: 7.70

20-yard shuttle: 4.56

60-yard shuttle: n/a

Scenario: If Oakland doesn't draft a Orakpo in the first, Gilbert has to be strongly considered for the second round pick. Not many base ends in the draft and none as good as Gilbert (other than Orakpo)

Gilbert Highlights

-Ramses Barden, 6-6; 229 lbs., WR, Cal Poly Tech-

via photos-e.ak.facebook.com

Ramses or Crabtree, seems to the be the big question around here. Ramses is very good WR prospect, despite his small school status. But we all know Al loves the small school guys, especially when it comes to receivers (Shields and Schilens) Barden's draft status has been sky-rocketing since his recent pro-days and visits to multiple teams, including the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders even paid more attention to Barden at the USC Pro Day than the USC linebacker trio. Last year Barden nabbed 67 receptions for 1,257 yards. That's an amazing 18.8 yards per reception average. An even more amazing feat, 18 touchdown receptions, in each of the last two years. Though his combine numbers make him to be slow for a WR, his pro day numbers disproved that. Barden is huge, fast, and has the best set of hands, other than Crabtree, in the entire draft.

40-yard dash: 4.68

Bench Press: 17 reps

Vertical Jump: 33.5

Broad Jump: 9'10"

3-cone drill: n/a

20-yard shuttle: 4.26

60-yard shuttle: n/a

Scenario: If Oakland drafts neither Crabtree nor Maclin, than Barden has to be their pick in the second round. Best all-around receiver in the draft in my honest opinion.

Ramses Highlights

-Ron Brace, 6-3; 330 lbs., DT, Boston College-

via 3.bp.blogspot.com

Brace isn't a statistically impressive player with only 54 tackles, 18.5 of those for loss and only 5.5 sacks in two years. However, there's no denying that a 330 lbs, he'd be good for the NT Oakland's looking for. Only 5 pounds lighter than Raji and one inch taller, the two are nearly identical in every aspect. If Oakland's willing to pass on Raji in the first, they can get a DT extremely close to the same talent level in the second. Thus leaving them to get someone like Crabtree or Orakpo in the first.

40-yard dash: 5.50

Bench Press: 32 reps

Vertical Jump: 28

Broad Jump: 6'3"

3-cone drill: 4.73

20-yard shuttle: 8.15

60-yard shuttle: n/a

Scenario: If Oakland doesn't draft Raji in the first, look for them to pick up Brace in the second. If they selected a DE like Orkapo, Brace's chances drop considerably and there's still the chance Oakland might wait for someone like Terrance Taylor or Sen' Derrick Marks.

Ron Brace vs. Vandy highlights 08

-Brian Robiskie, 6-3; 209 lbs., WR, Ohio State-

via media.ohio.com

Robiskie brings an intriguing possession receiver that Oakland should take a good hard look at. 127 career receptions speaks for his ability to catch the pigskin, especially since Ohio State liked to run the ball. Despite a bad 40 combine time, Robiskie does have good speed for a possession guy. Amazing leaping ability to match his size. He likes to go up for the tough grab and does this well in traffic. Can take a hit and still hold on to the ball. He'll have some trouble separating from the faster CB in the league, but he has the moves to break free against more zone type corners. He's an intriguing prospect who I wouldn't mind seeing develop with the Oakland Raiders. other stats: 24 career touchdowns and 1,866 receiving yards. Though his best season was his junior year.

40-yard dash: 4.59

Bench Press: n/a

Vertical Jump: 37.5

Broad jump: n/a

3-cone drill: 6.72

20-yard shuttle: 4.19

60-yard shuttle: n/a

Scenario: If Oakland doesn't draft a receiver in the first, look for Robiskie and Barden to be the top two receiver options in the second round.

Robiskie Highlights, sorry for awful music

-Connor Barwin, 6-3; 253 lbs., DE, Cincinnati-

via bearsnationblog.com

TE turned DE, sounds familiar don't it? Barwin is an incredible athlete who racked up 15.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, and 7 passes defensed in one season at DE! Just the kind of athlete the Oakland Raiders crave. Good size and amazing speed for a DE with the second best 40-time for a DE. He was even fast for a TE when he played the position. Very good against both the pass and the run, a combo that I've repeatedly stated is lost in this year's draft. He's been compared to Mike Vrabel, in that he can be a goal line offense threat, and great off the edge on defense. Can also play OLB in both 3-4 and 4-3 sets. Plus, check out that amazing vertical leap.

40-yard dash: 4.66

Bench Press: 21 reps

Vertical Jump: 40.5

Broad Jump: 10'8"

3-cone drill: 6.87

20-yard shuttle: 4.18

60-yard shuttle: n/a

Scenario: If Oakland doesn't take a DE in the first and Gilbert is gone, then Barwin's going to be very hard to pass up on. Even if Gilbert's there, it'll be tough to choose between the two.

Connor Barwin DE highlights

-Michael Johnson, 6-7; 260 lbs., DE, Georgia Tech-

via chi-ball.com

When I saw this guy was 6-7, I had to check to make sure it wasn't a typo. It wasn't. This dude is huge. Johnson racked up 17.5 TFL and 9 sacks last year. Many questioned his pass rush skills before last year, but now it's clear he's both a good run stopper and pass rusher. His play is rather inconsistent at times. Throw in a 38.5 inch vertical with that 6-7 frame and Johnson's a freak of nature. GT must like tall guys who can leap tall buildings with a single bound. He might struggle with some of the bigger OT's in the league but will still be a force. Fast, strong, and amazing size=good DE.

40-yard dash: 4.75

Bench Press: 28 reps

Vertical Jump: 38.5

Broad Jump: 10'8"

3-cone drill: 7.42

20-yard shuttle: 4.37

60-yard shuttle: n/a

Scenario: See Gilbert and Barwin. Some say that Johnson might be a first rounder though.

Michael Johnson highlights

-Evander Hood, 6-3; 300 lbs., DT, Missouri-

via farm3.static.flickr.com

Hood is a big DT who consistently gets penetration. Had 49 tackles, 8 TFL, and 5 sacks. One of the strongest DT's in the draft. He's not overly athletic like some of the other DT's in the draft. However, he's incredibly quick off the snap and has a good motor often bowling over the opposing guard or center. Draws double teams but excels despite the extra blocker. Lacks technique and doesn't disengage very well, but then again he doesn't really ever need to.

40-yard dash: 4.97

Bench Press: 34 reps

Vertical Jump: 33

Broad Jump: 9'0"

3-cone drill: 7.50

20-yard shuttle: 4.55

60-yard shuttle: n/a

Scenario: If Raji isn't picked, it'll between Hood and Brace as to who the second round DT will be. Both are very good and will be very hard to pick between.

Evander Hood Highlights

Thoughts?

via www.blitzmagonline.com

In a previous post of mine I detailed why I thought Orakpo should be our pick. I looked through some Crabtree videos and evaluations and found him to be a very good WR. Now I still don't want Crabtree to be our pick, but here's why Oakland should draft him (if orakpo isn't there)

-Size-

At 6-2, 208 pounds, Crabtree is one of the bigger receivers in the draft. That 208 pounds is pure muscle as he's one of the trimmest 208 pound people I've ever seen. However that tall, sleek frame spells I-N-J-U-R-Y to me. Or rather, it did. Closer inspection shows that while his legs and arms are fairly slim, they are rippling with muscles. Al loves his receivers tall and muscular (except for Cliff Branch) and that formula still works very well. Crabtree loves using that muscle to play physical football, especially against press corners. And if Al is debating between Crabtree and Maclin (don't know why he would though), that physicality factor could be the deciding factor.

-College Numbers-

For some reason I was sure Crabtree wouldn't be as good in his sophomore year as he was in his freshman year. I was proved wrong. In fact, that was the greatest miscalculation since people thinking the Earth was flat. Though his stats did go down, he was still the best WR in the NCAA.

In only two years, Crabtree racked up 231 receptions for 3,127 yards and 41 touchdowns. What's that tell you? Crabtree consistently makes the catch and gets lots of yards each time. Averaging 14.6 yards per catch in 07 and 12.0 yards 08, Crabs gets fairly long range passes and makes yards after the catches. Also worth noting he had 0 fumbles in two years. Nice ball-handling.

here's some highlight vids:

Crabtree Highlights

Crabtree 08 highlights

-#7 Possibilities-

I mentioned in my RAK post that Crabtree is who I think Cleveland will pick. However since I'm the draft guy for Cleveland, they might still go after Orakpo. If they do, and Crabtree wasn't picked up before Cleveland picked (seattle), then I'm sure Oakland will pick Crabtree. The only way I don't think they would is if the Eagles want to trade up for him. I know Davis doesn't trade down, like, ever. But two first round picks has got to make Al start to take some serious consideration into trading down (which I really hope he does). However, I still think Davis would draft Crabtree.

-What Crabtree Would Give the Raiders-

Crabtree has the best hands in the draft, no doubt about it, and Oakland needs a possession guy other than Miller. The Raiders have plenty of speed threats at WR, but nobody that can guarantee you they'll make the catch. Russell needs that one guy who he knows he can throw to who will make the catch and get some yards.

Crabtree also gives Oakland what posey calls "a true #1 receiver". Crabtree has goth great hands, and good speed. One of the faster receivers in the draft. However, he doesn't have the speed to outrun the faster corners and safeties in the league. He makes up for that, however, with his moves. If you watched those highlight vids or a Texas Tech game for that matter, you know Michael's one of the most elusive receivers in the draft, if not the most. Those moves help him break off the cover man and the defense when making the catch. He's one of the most prolific catch-and-run receivers I've ever seen. His physicality also comes into play here because he can also just stiff arm or bowl over the defender.

Many people have said that Crabtree does have one fault, and that's his route-running. This however doesn't seem like that big of a problem to me. Training camp and time around the facility would solve that. I'm more concerned with his injury that kept him from the combine and his pro-day. I don't know the specifics on the injury, but anything that requires major surgery and a month of recovery is never a good thing. I hope that if we draft him, it won't be too much of an inconvenience come mini-camp, OTA, training camp, etc.

Here's his scout.com profile

Would I be happy if we drafted Crabtree? Yes I would. Would I rather we draft Orakpo? Definitely. Do I think that if both are gone we should draft Maclin? Dear God no.

Basically if Orakpo is gone and Crabtree is available, I say we either draft him or (preferably) trade down.

I may or may not make a post similar to this about Raji.
