Bluebird Banter Why Not?

I'm not the sort of guy to say "told you so", but if only for entertainment's sake, see my entry dated May 19th "He's Right" and almost all predictions have come true. I predicted this skid before it started. Snyder,Brett and Ray are back in the minors where they belong,to be followed shortly by Romero. Wells,Rios and Overbay continue to (kindly) underperform and produce the necessary clutch hits required by these  "overpaid prima donnas."

Anyways lets get on with our lives and still remember that this years team gave us all a helluva ride during the first six weeks of 2009 and I applaud Tom Drakers for attempting to keep our morale high, but lets face facts, this team played way over its head and the professional forecasters had it pegged-4th OR 5th here we come !

Whats ahead?  Well this losing streak has certainly helped one guy who is almost never mentioned. Yes- the honourable Paul Beeston who was hired to rearrange the Jays from the top down. This incredible start in 2009 surely tied his hands in doing the necessary--that is hiring a new President and shortly thereafter relieving JP from his misery and incompetence of the last 7 years of failure. Who of you  out there in their day to day jobs/careers would still be employed with a record of productivity like JP's?

So wait for it Blue Jays fans that you are-with the euphoria over and attendance dropping steadily and stagnation of another losing season coming about-FINALLY Beeston will take the action that is already clear in his head. He will not wait for the off season-look to the Al Star break for a new regime to be in place and as for a long-shot prediction --why not Pete Rose as our new GM? Smart baseball mind with a FIRE to WIN--something thats been sadly lacking.from JP and Cito.

If I were Wells or Rios and I heard Pete wanted to "see me" -I'd seriously consider early retirement !

Bluebird Banter My Crystal Ball

The Future

Yes against second division clubs like the white sox  and indians and teams with injuries like the angels, theJays have more than held their own. Starting tonight in Boston and over the next month a team with Triple A starters (except Doc)  and anaemic output from Lyle at a "power position" the Jays will start to show their true colours. The ball is clearing and I forsee no more than 80 wins with another 4th place finish.Get real Toronto fans-clear out those prima donna overpayed salary eaters like Rios and Wells, trade Doc before he blows his arm and start rebuilding for 2012 !

Bluebird Banter Whats That I Smell?

4th Place thats What !--rightly earned and would have been "guaranteed" much earlier BUt for an unusual and lucky win streak of 10 late in the season ! Panic had set in where the boys were playing for next year (AJ ) and  also they finally came through with some timely hits.

As for next year (when Doc falls off) I smell the bottom of the division-5th place !

UNLESS JP gets busy and makes the moves he should have last off-season -dumping the Big Dump Truck, realizing that Stairs was a one season wonder and pulling the trigger on that Rios -Lincecum trade with the Giants. If he'd done that AJ could have been dealt at the trade deadline (for somebody) instead of the situation now where we get 2 draft picks . Big deal--building for 2012 !

Bluebird Banter Seen It Before !

I've been around long enough to realize that this current 5 game winning streak is going to give false hope to the diehards. From Day 1 this team could not produce the clutch hitting so necessary to become a contender.  Take a look at the stats where a guy (Vernon Wells) who was on the DL for over 40 games,is your power-hitting leader! Keep dreaming Jays fans but Jays '08 should be thankful that they are still a tad better than Baltimore and so don't have to finish 5th in the American league East !
