Saturday's Referee: Walt Anderson

Among many other games he was a line judge in the 2000 Super Bowl (Ravens) and the referee in the 2011 Super Bowl (Packers).

Case Keenum: Scary mobile QB?

35 yards on 57 attempts the last time he actually played, for a sparkling average of 0.6 YPC. And 18 of those were on one run. As for the scary preseason stats, notable QBs with a higher completion % include Blaine Gabbert, Tavaris Jackson, Jeff Tuel and Jason Campbell. The venerable Matts Cassel, Schaub, Simms and Blanchard all had higher yards per completion, joined by Tavaris Jackson and Derek Anderson among others. Preseason means nothing.

Chiefs D Stat of the Night

The Chiefs have held their opponents under their season average in points in all six games. Meanwhile, the supposedly dominant Seattle defense has given up more points than their opponents average in 4 of their 7 games. Even more tellingly, the Chiefs hold their opponents 10.15 points under their average, while Seattle manages only 5.27 points. If you discounted the 49ers meltdown, Seattle would only be holding teams 1.45 points under the average.

A Silver Lining: The Offense

The link above is to the only time in 2011 the Chiefs scored 24 or more offensive points, Week 5 against the horrid Indianapolis Colts, who were 0-4 on their way to an 0-13 start. In 2012 Week 1, our defense played poorly, there's no doubt about it. But our offense had a completely new crispness and style about it. Despite Matt Cassel turning the ball over 3x, we still put up 24 points against a team that was 12th in total defense last year. Last year, the only time we managed 24+ points, we needed zero turnovers to pull it off. If we can rally the defense, this team will be in great shape.

Chiefs get a well-deserved burn, along with everybody else.
