My Resume for GM

I KcKing will throw my hat into the ring for GM of the Kansas City Chiefs.

I have a historic legacy of leading franchises to the Super Bowl. Okay, so what if it was in Madden? The point is that I have that winning attitude, that killer instinct, the ability to take my team to the top.

Now, there are a few decisions we are going to be making over the off-season.

The first is whether or not to sell naming rights to the stadium. Since, this is a business I am totally for selling naming rights. I've already received two offers. They are from Hillary for President 2012 and Victoria's Secret.

Although Hillary is offering more money, VS is offering to have their models appear as cheerleaders at all home games. With the influx of new faces, and other things, I can predict increased ticket sales.

Another decision is what do we do about the Quarterback position for next year. I am in favor of neither drafting one or acquiring one in free agency. What we should do is begin the Starting QB of the week contest. Any customer who purchases $5000 or more in merchandise is automatically entered into a raffle to become the starting QB for that week's game. Depending on the success of this enterprise we may expand this to include all positions. Which not only promotes sales but also saves money on player salaries.

Another money saving idea is to no longer provide protective gear for our players. NFL rules only state that their socks must meet their pants and their shirt meet their pants. Nothing about shoulder pads and other unnecessary items. Also, expensive fiberglass helmets are a thing of the past. We will now only provide the leather helmets the real men wore.

These are just a few of my ideas and there are many more that will go a long way to making the Chiefs as magical as the Detroit Lions.

This fan post is not meant to actually give advice to the Kansas City Chiefs but to be enjoyed as sarcastic humor.

Headed in the Right Direction

As I contemplate the Chief's loss yesterday while eating my warm cinnamon bun I feel hope and a new sense of vigor. Maybe it's because I received B's or higher on all of my finals this semester or maybe it's because I can see how the Kansas City Chiefs are improving.

I know that term "improvement" is tricky and difficult to define. It's kind of like equality or freedom they are hard to grasp with words but you know it when you see it. Yes, the defense looked dismal and the offense came up a yard short but I still see the light at the end of the tunnel. Why do I see that light? Because we are significantly better now than we were at the beginning of the season.

Don't believe me? Who will you believe? What about Brian Waters? In his interview with Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star Water's said the following:

“We’re as good as any team in our division right now. Were we at the beginning of the season? Probably not. But we are now.”

OK Brian Waters thinks we have improved but that's only one guy. Right? He could be wrong. What about Future Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez?

In an interview with ESPN's Bill Williamson Tony G talked about Thigpen and the status of the team.

"You already got your quarterback," Gonzalez said. "You get something else to help us."

So improvement at the QB position according to Gonzalez. What about the rest of the team and the offense in particular?

"We're close on offense, we're close," Gonzalez said. "I think they are going to get some pieces on defense so the defense can catch up with us, but we're close. Right now, I'm a Kansas City Chief and I know we're close." He goes on to say later, "I could see this being a playoff team next year," Gonzalez said. "I could see us turning it around."

Maybe I'm just in the Christmas spirit but I, like Gonzalez , can see us turning it around and becoming a playoff team next year.

What are the Signs of a Bad Coach?

A lot of people will say the biggest factor in evaluating a head coach is the wins to losses. I agree with that. Mostly.

A losing team is not always the coach's fault. Losses can stem from multiple sources.

1. An inefficient GM who screws up in off-season acquisitions. (Who here thinks Carl Peterson is a good GM?)

2. Players who aren't doing there job. Some have said that if you have players who are making mistakes on the field it's the coach's fault for not preparing them for their game.

In my working experience my boss sets the general scheme for what we are doing then he expects me to execute the plan and get as many customers as possible. He doesn't stand over my shoulder and tell me "hey this is how you type" or "hey you should stand like this when meeting a customer." That's my job and if he told me every little thing that's micromanagement. If anyone has ever had a micromanager you know how badly that effects your production.

NFL players are fully grown adults who are getting paid millions of dollars to do their job. If you think they just sit and drool on themselves while the coaching staff tells them how to play the game then your crazy. These guys know football, they know their body, they have to have their own work ethic and their own desire to win.

Sure at the high school and college level there is a lot of player development going on and it's important. But at the pro level ussually the player's got it or he doesn't. Experience is important but you can't coach experience and you can't coach talent.

I've always believed the signs of a badly coached team is the players committing stupid penalties and turning the ball over in ridiculous amounts.

We are the seventh least penalized team in the NFL and are +9 in turnovers. That's not only acceptable that's really good.

I've never been a coach and I've never been a player but I have been a student of the game and a persistent fan of the Chiefs even when it's painful. This isn't a popular stance right now because we are losing. It would be really easy to rant and rave and say how bad Herm is and how he doesn't know a football from a head of lettuce. But that's not what I believe. I think he's a good coach. Time will tell. If we are this bad next year I'll be the first to say fire Herm.

I'd go on but I have to head out into the real world.

I'm not mad

For the past several weeks I haven't even logged onto Arrowhead Pride. I used to love this site and read everything on here because the people here maintained an upbeat optimistic view of the future.

But week after week of bloggers who constantly complain about this play call and that player's tackle and so on was too much for me to handle. If I want to hear about the Chief's being awful and pathetic I can go to a hundred different websites. I understand WE ARE awful and pathetic but this is what I expected this year!

The Kansas City Chiefs are a team. You win as a team and you lose as a team. We as Chiefs' fans are a team. Football is a sport that transcends race, religion, and economic status. We can disagree on what we should do as a team but we should always remember we love the Chiefs and we love the game. And if it makes you so mad that you insult and ridicule other fans then maybe it's time for you to take up bowling.

I want to end this by saying feel free to provide positive criticism (you know the kind that helps us improve as opposed to the kind that just makes the other person feel bad) If I want to go get ridiculed I might as well just go talk to a Raider's fan.

Sorry if this is too Oprah for you all but this is important to me.

My Solution to the Chief's Crises

This solution will not be enacted until the end of the 2008 season. So many of you instant gratifacation subscribers will mock my proposal.

Let me preface this by saying I like Herm Edwards. I think players like Herm and I think people around the league respect his opinion and his ability to evaluate talent. That being said, I don't think Herm is a great coach.

My solution if I was Mr. Hunt would be to fire Carl Peterson at the end of this season and put Herm as the new GM and then woo Bill Cowher out of the pregame show booth to replace Herm as head coach.

I think this plan would be perfect. Cowher and Edwards have worked together before and it was sucessful. Cowher is a championship winning coach that would immediately give the Chiefs the prestige needed to make a key free agent signing or two while I think Edwards is a great player evaluator and would work well to get contracts signed and keep players happy.

Maybe, I'm just suffering from lack of sleep but I think that Cowher as HC and Edwards as GM would give the Chiefs what they need to win.

Brady Quinn?

For all of you who have a man crush on the Notre Dame notable, the Chiefs have tried to trade for Quinn. According to Jay Glazer who I just heard on Fox's pregame show the Chiefs approached the Browns but were turned down.

I think this would be a disaster I live in South Bend and I wasn't that impressed watching him here. He's just not that good.

I would much rather wait till the draft to get a QB.

Quarterback of the Future?

I know there's a lot more football left to be plaed this season and there's a raging debate about whether we've seen enough of Croyle or not but IF the Chiefs pick a QB next year in the draft who should they pick? I know with Carl it's a big IF.

Let's look at three QB's in the college ranks right now a senior, a junior and a sophomore. If I have that long of an attention span.

First one of my favs: Chase Daniel

Chase is a bit short for a NFL prospect but, I know it's cliche, he makes up for it with heart. Also, the only experience he's had in college has been in the spread offense.

That said he is an extremely accurate QB and has the wheels to get out of trouble and to pick up a first down. Coach Pinkel raves about 6-0 225 senior calling him "...a coach on the field" and "a true team leader."

From 2005-2007 he's had a 63.1% completion rate and 62 td's and 23 int. Plus you throw in 8180 yards and it's pretty impressive. Also, he was 16-17 with 3 td's last Saturday. Even in the back yard that's amazing

Naturally, it remains to be seen how well he performs this year with all of the media coverage and defenses gunning for him.

Next up it's the Heisman trophy winner Tim Tebow.

I know a lot of people say this guy's game won't work in the NFL. I tend to disagree. I have been wrong before and I'm sure I'll be wrong again. But this guy is a beast and a true competitor.

He's only a junior and most analysts project he'll stay at Florida but with the cash that's being thrown at high profile draft choices you never know. Nobody can argue with his accolades as a running QB so I'll just list his passing stats, which are provided by ESPN.com.

His stats are pretty impressive too. A career 64.9% completion rate and a 40 TD to 7 INT ratio.

I'm especially looking forward to your all's feedback on this one.

The Sooners sizzling, sophomore sensation Sam Bradford is next on my list.

Sam, as sizzling and sensational as he is; is still only a sophomore and wows the croutons out of me.

First off, he's 6-4 giving him plenty of room to see over the line of scrimmage and the long arm to give him a lot of torque.

He's proved to me he is very accurate a career 70.6% completion rate. Last year he racked up over 3600 yards and 36 touchdowns in his first season while only throwing 8 picks. This guy is certainly a NFL prospect.

Well, sorry for taking so long. Feel free to chew me up and spit me out. Just curious to see who you all think would be a great QB to draft if Brodie ain't the guy.

All stats and info come from ESPN.com, Rivals.com and my head.

Annoying Patriots Fans

I know not all Patriots fans are annoying. I know not all Patriot fans are arrogant and I know some of them are genuinely repentant about their team's cheating or to quote bostonpPete "breaking a rule to gain more information."

I do know that like how dogs take on the personality of their owners fans can sometimes take on the personality of their head coach.

I have an email friend who used to live in KC but was orignally from Boston. He moved back to NE several years ago and has emailed me occasionally to talk football. This year he sent me an email predicting the Pats to win 57-7 and many other things which I think I'll leave out. I wrote him back saying he was crazy.

I'm not expecting to win but I don't think it will get that bad. I'm just sick and tired of fans who can't just be happy with success but also think it's necessary to rub it in everyone's faces. Then they get mad about how everyone is ticked off at them for cheating. If Coach Hoodie didn't run up scores, make derogatory remarks about Coach Dungy and be an egotistical jerk the cheating thing would've gone over just like Merriman's steroid usage. But the fact is what goes around comes around.

So now Chiefs fans let's root our boys to victory. For every little kid who got picked on by bullies, for every little brother who got humiliated and beat up by their bigger brothers, and for every underdog in the history of the world BEAT THE PATRIOTS!

Delusions of Grandeur

I am unashamedly a homer for the Chiefs and will start the Chiefs defense this week in my fantasy league. I know we're supposed to be crushed by the most dominant football team since 2002 and we're playing against the best QB ever. I may be stupid, naive, or maybe just inspired by Gunther's enthusiasm for "slobberknockers" but I'm willing to take that chance.

Aggh, what the heck, pass the koolaid and pray that DJ has more sacks than a cashier at Wal Mart.
