Green will have me seeing Red
C'mon man!
If someone has posted this already, please disregard the redundancy. I have not been checking this site on a daily basis as of late. The draft is months away, EVERYTHING will change, and yet I have seen so many mocks intent on promoting the idea of AJ Green making sense for our Bills.
I am not questioning his skills or anything of that nature. I am not saying he might not be the most talented player on the board when we pick. I am not saying he might not be a future super star who can grab anything throw his way. All I'm saying is this: in my humble opinion, on an offense WR is the 3rd last piece of the puzzle, only ahead of TE and FB.
Here's my logic:
First off, if you don't have the rest of your team in place your stud receiver is widely underused or wasted. It seems more recently, wasted is the go to word. Brandon Marshall, Larry Fitzgerald, Miles Austin, and Randy Moss are all elite level players who could barely find their names under "successful" in the 2010 NFL thesaurus. Calvin Johnson and Andre Johnson are two of the best, and if they were to finish out their careers on their current teams they may never see a single playoff game. I understand the ability to make game changing catches and stretch the field is important, yet only two of the eight teams in the divisional rounds of the playoffs had a pro bowl WR. I mean I haven't heard this much hype about a WR being the real deal since...Crabtree...
Second, is what many call the Matt Millen effect. Five straight years of drafting WRs did absolutely NOTHING to help the Lions. One can argue it was his amazing ability to pick busts, however this just goes to show you that a WR's impact (even the year they drafted Megatron and Kitna had that 4000+ yard season, starting 6-2) at best is minimal. It shows year after year that the WR impact isn't as big as another impact player who can come in and be a game changer right away. Also, you have to factor in the Revis Island two times a year, make a goose egg more then likely to appear two times a year on any stat sheet.
Third, is the fact we have been here before. TO was supposed to help us get over that 7-9 hump, and while he played ok, I think this year he showed us he still has a lot left in the tank (18th in yards, 10th-t in TDs) and we all know how well that went. Lee Evans is a stud WR. He is the perfect example of a what could have been guy. Imagine his stats on the Chargers or the Colts.
Last, I have faith in Stevie. If you want to drink the Fitz or Spiller koolaid, more power to you, I haven't lost all hope that these guys might bring us to the promised land. While I don't Scuba (btw, why did that nickname lose so much ground this year) see him going up and over someone making a one handed catch a la AJ/Megatron/FitzG/Nicks, yet he his stats speak volumes (11th in total yards, 7th-t in TDs, and 5th in YAC) - why would you ever want to stifle his growth as a #1 WR?
Please do not make me hate all the blind optimists who post rants after a spot we don't need is filled by a high draft pick again. I want to be with you guys, popping imaginary bottles. Do not draft a receiver first, do not even support the notion. In the words of the great Bill Polian, “we're not playing fantasy football here.”

DC Bills fans? There has to be some out there, right?
I'm new to the area and looking for any recommendations. Spent last week watching and agonizing over our Bills (would normally insert 'my Bills' here except I think every person on this site would claim them as their own) solo in front of my computer screen and just looking for a good spot to roll to. It's got to the point where I got a girl with a Kissing Bridge bumper sticker to roll down her window so I could ask her where she watched the Bills on Sundays (she was cute too, but that's besides the point). I was in disbelief as she said she doesn't watch football.
Looking for somewhere I don't have to hear my friends who are Pats, Fins, Packers, Browns, Skins, etc fan talk out of the side of their mouth. And, hey, if you want to meet up and grab a drink, rock and roll.
Cheers.
Dear Marshawn Terrell Lynch
Hey buddy, how are you doing? I know that the Spiller pick pretty much means your time here is closer to being over than 29:55 into a sitcom. I for one am sad to see you go.
I have always lobbied that you are a first tier running back. Too quickly do a lot of fans jump on hate boat and sip their haterade after a season plagued by an offensive line with more holes than that a 24-pak of Tim Hortons. Too many people have no idea how hard it is to gain momentum after missing so much time with a team. I wonder what people will say of Big Ben after he is rusty as all hell after a 6 game suspension. Will there be plenty of clamor that he is over rated? I can almost guarantee it.
I understand you got into trouble outside the field a few times and that turned a lot of people off. I have always said, "put yourself in his shoes". It is damn ear impossible for someone from the city of Buffalo to know what life was like growing up in Oakland. The people who act like they never got into trouble are people who aren't honest with themselves, or people who act like they wouldn't go a little crazy with millions of dollars, girls throwing themselves at you, and endless party opportunities are just liars.
I am disappointed to see you go. I may be the only one (not that it matters) when I roll into Orchard Park this fall for my annual pilgrimage to a Bills home game wearing number 23.
Play on player,
-A

The Replacements
Everyone is calling for Trent's head it seems. I think after the tweets I read, Talley may have become my favorite Bill for the week. If we were 2-2 I think everyone would be singing a different tune. Also, am I alone is saying the Saints' game was very winnable. Remove the 4th quarter when we were down and out and I felt like we kept that game as close as the Jets did when they played them yesterday.
I left the bar yesterday after the third quarter. I couldn't take that much punishment. Call me a fickle fan, but I'm a busy guy and have better things to do then watch a team I've loved since 6 years of age, take a whooping like that. It was bush league. We telegraphed a blueprint to almost every team that wants to beat us: RUN, RUN, and RUN some more. We need Poz and Donte back more then ever.
This is what brings me to my post. I think we pull Brooks and an OT (plug in you're favorite guy who visited OBD and didn't sign) and we can bump up this team out of the bottom of the barrel. But my and almost everyone's concern seems to be at QB. I cannot stress how disappointed I was when the Dolphins signed Thigpen. Am I alone in being amazed at how well he played last year with the Chief's. Did anyone else have their fantasy team carried by him at the QB position? Here is a guy who came in and made the Chief effective in the passing game, with a team with talent worse than ours. The fact that the Chief's went out and gave Cassel a huge deal was a slap in his face. I would be confident to no end giving him the reigns to our O. Fitzpatrick not so much. You guys did see a Bengal's game or two last year right? They looked about as good as we did on Sunday.
Bills Training Camp Observations
I think most disturbing is the news about Marshawn? What is going on here?
Fraggile Freddy
So glad we got Rhodes over this guy...
Blessings in disguise that he and Jones signed elsewhere
