Got my first pair of rollerblades when I was 6, stole a plastic red Wayne Gretzky stick from my cousin, got a tennis ball and dumped out the recycling bin. After that first shot, I knew what the greatest game on the planet was, Hockey. Didn't convince my parents to let me play ice hockey til I was 10.(with the help from some awesome teachers who knew it would help my ADD) I went to my first Hawks game at 10 saw J.R. on a breakaway, stop cold on the blue line and rip a slap shot 5-hole on Kirk McLean. I then felt what was the best feeling and that was being a Hawks fan. Not so much the case through the dark years, that saw a dude named Zhamnov and an unfortunate short career of Eric Daze. Other than that, I had no money to go to games (little kid) and my parents weren't rich (could only afford house league). So I could just watch them on TV and follow..ohhhh wait, no I couldn't. So there was a young Hawks fan, young hockey player, with no team to follow cause the team didn't care about his kind. Well, I didn't know big business (little kid), but I knew I was being cheated. Then out of nowhere, the franchise resurrects from the ashes of Dollar Bill in the form of Rocky Wirtz. Who knew the franchise could turn around so quick? Everyone. Except Dollar Bill. And now, we have a new age of hockey in Chicago, and I have a 6 year old hockey player of my own, who has a chance to cheer on the greatest sweater in all of sports, The Indian. We're all committed to him now.
