BJ Penn: I'd Love To See Kimbo Champ
From FightStopTalk.com:
"Who would have thought the WWE champion would be the UFC champion? You never know what can happen in the fight game. I’d love to see it happen, it’s a long shot but I’d love to see it."
The above quote is from UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn when the champion was speaking with the The Sun (based out of the UK). Essentially, it’ll happen. Why would it not? It’s pretty well understood that Dana White likes to create fights that will make him, his organization, and his parenting company a lot of money.
While, I’m not a Brock Lesnar fan, I do respect and understand Dana White’s reasons for creating Lesnar into a household name. Lesnar brings in the money and, as much as I hate to say it, he is actually gaining some skill — besides his size — to defend his title.
Lesnar inspires hope. As does Kimbo. Kimbo inspires us because he would be another "rags-to-riches" type of story. I could root for Kimbo as the UFC Heavyweight Champion. In fact, I endorse Kimbo Slice for a shot at the belt. Not that anything I say has any effect on what is going to happen as I am not even considered a piss-ant in the MMA world, but you get my idea.
If Kimbo garners the skill developed on his appearance with The Ultimate Fighter: Heavywieghts and his training with Florida’s American Top Team, Kimbo could be deadly. We have already seen his deadly striking through YouTube videos and even during his stint with EliteXC.
And besides, I can root for Kimbo just because I don’t like Lesnar as champ.
Lutter gets win over Macdonald; could he return to the UFC?
Post from Sherdog.com:
ENOCH, Alberta -- Travis Lutter sent the MFC fans home unhappy as he defeated hometown star Jason MacDonald with a unanimous decision Saturday in the main event of MFC 22 "Payoff" at the River Cree Resort and Casino.
MacDonald, fighting in his home province for the first time in three years following a ten-fight stint in the UFC, could not find the solution on the ground fast enough to defeat the Fort Worth native.
Lutter, fighting for the first time in 18 months, took MacDonald to the ground quickly in the first and controlled the round on the mat. Lutter went from mount to back control and had MacDonald in danger with a rear-naked choke late in the first.
The second round was a carbon copy of the first, with Lutter establishing dominant position over MacDonald and once again nearly securing a choke from the back.
In the third round, MacDonald was able to establish his game plan by getting on top of Lutter. He managed to trap Lutter in the corner of the ring and land some blows, but it was too little, too late, as Lutter earned scores of 29-28 across the board.
"I definitely felt my Brazilian jiu-jitsu was the difference in the fight," said the 36-year-old Lutter, who was the winner of "The Ultimate Fighter 4." "When I was on top, I passed and when he was on top, he couldn’t."
I can't help, but be ecstatic over Lutter's victory. MacDonald is a great win for Lutter and will no doubt help him to bigger and greater things since being his first fight since his two consecutive losses with the UFC.
Joe Silva left the door open for Jason MacDonald to return to the UFC if he won a few fights in smaller promotions, and I don't see why the UFC cannot do the same for an Ultimate Fighter winner.
