Born and raised in Detroit Area, a product of the 60's. I witnessed Denny McClain win his 30th game in Tiger Stadium. I also (tragically) witnessed WR Chuck Hughes die of a heart attack on the field in a game against the Bears in '71. I have lived in the Chicago area for 25yrs and have 2 college aged sons (neither are Lions fans!) I love the Red Wings, the Tigers and to most people's amazement, the Lions. I do like the Bears and will root for them whenever they don't play the Lions. My favorite players growing up were....Charlie Sanders, Alex Karras, Mike Lucci, Wayne Walker, Steve Owens, and Lem Barney. The Lions in those days always had a competitive team, but they never seem to get past the Minnesota Vikings and Fran Tarkenton. I loved listening to Van Patrick and his very distinct voice and style announcing the games over the radio. Iin the 80's, Al "Bubba" Baker, Doug English, and of course, Billy Sims. All those memories have made me a true blue Lions fan and I always will be. I can't explain it, since it's cause me so much grief and ridicule over the years. But Honolulu Blue and Silver is in my blood.
I started to get really excited this year for the Lions. In my heart, I believe they finally have the right people in charge and eventually will turn this once proud franchise to a championship level. I really, truly believe that. And when they do, I can finally say..."The world is finally right!" We have to remember that it can't be done in one year...or two. It took decades to run this team down the way it is now so we all have to have patience. But I can't wait to see this team in 5 years! Mark my words...
