Battle Red Blog Your AFC South Champion Houston Texans Rooting Guide, Episode IV: A New Hope

How 'bout them Texans? Mike Brisiel's injury last Sunday is a pretty apt metaphor for this team so far. Injured in a way that should have knocked them out of competition in the second quarter, the team has toughed it out and played at a far higher level than anyone would expect.

This weekend marks probably the best chance the Texans have to see one of their primary competitors for a first-round bye get knocked off for the remainder of the season, as all three have road games against their best remaining opponents (maybe not Baltimore). We'll review last week after the jump, and then move on to this week.

Battle Red Blog A Black Mark on an Otherwise Great Day

What a day yesterday was, am I right? I was one of the hundreds of Texans fans who descended on Bud Plaza last night to welcome our team home as AFC South Champions, and I was one of those hundreds who bought AFC South Champions merchandise from the Go Texans Store. And as the elation of yesterday's events has slowly started to subside and I looked forward to the next game, I noticed a comment from someone earlier today that the merchandise I bought last night was being sold for significantly less on the Texans' website. In some places, up to half as expensive.

I did the math and found that I'd paid over 35% more than the list price online for my shirt and hat.

WHAT. THE. FUCK?

On a night where everyone was eager to celebrate the Texans' clinching of the division, the organization responds by jacking up its prices to take advantage of a fan base that has been waiting 20 years to see playoff football at home in Houston once more?

Maybe I'm overreacting here, but does anyone else think that's fucked up?

If so, e-mail fanfeedback@houstontexans.com and let them know. I did.

"Now the Texans will be without right guard Mike Brisiel, who suffered a fractured fibula and had it repaired Monday morning. He will be replaced by Antoine Caldwell, but the Texans hope Brisiel won’t miss extensive time."

Evidently, Brisiel played almost the entire game with a broken leg. Yikes.

Derrick Mason was also cut today.

Battle Red Blog Your Week 14 Rooting Guide For The Houston Texans

After seeing, hearing, and feeling the atmosphere in Reliant on Sunday, it becomes more apparent than ever that securing home field advantage could be just the thing the Texans need to make a run all the way to the Super Bowl. If the crowd was raucous and noisy when the Texans played an NFC team, imagine the atmosphere when the stands are totally full and the Texans are in the playoffs. I'm excited by that. Are you?

Let's examine last week's results:

Battle Red Blog Your Week 13 Rooting Guide For The Houston Texans

Well, that was an ugly week, wasn't it? Despite nearly everything that could go wrong doing so, however, the Texans are currently sitting atop the AFC. Let's review, shall we?

Texans @ Jaguars - Texans Win (+)

49ers @ Ravens - Ravens Win (-)

Patriots @ Eagles - Patriots Win (-)

Steelers @ Chiefs - Steelers Win (-)

Bills @ Jets - Jets Win (Meh)

Buccaneers @ BE-SFs - BE-SFs Win (-)

Bears @ Raiders - Raiders Win (-)

Panthers @ Colts - Panthers Win (-)

So that puts us at 1-6-1 for the week. Hit the jump for this week's slate of rooting interests as more and more teams become irrelevant while the playoff picture crystallizes.

Battle Red Blog Your Week 12 Rooting Guide for the Texans

Surprisingly, figuring out who to root for this week is far less complicated than it has been in seasons past, as we find ourselves rooting against basically everybody in the AFC rather than hoping division leaders keep winning to clear up the Wild Card race. All the same, hit the jump to learn who to cheer and who to jeer this Thanksgiving weekend.

Battle Red Blog A Quick and Dirty Look at the Draft Positions of our Starters

I was reflecting today on how many of our defensive starters are 1st or 2nd rounders and realized that the same cannot be said for our offense. Say what you will about it, that O-linemen are easier to find in later rounds, etc., but given how good our offense is, I think the results are somewhat interesting.

I included the starters as they were listed today at the game, with the exceptions that injured players on the 53 man roster who would normally be starting (Manning, Johnson) still get the nod in this lineup. Hit the jump for enlightenment (in all of its shitty MS Paint glory).

Unfortunately, it's only for Fantasy and it's kind of because the Texans have had to go into so many shootouts...

Battle Red Blog Any Texans Fans in NYC?

I'm in New York for the next two months for training and am looking for a good place to watch the games come next Sunday. I've heard that the Hill Country Barbecue place on Manhattan is becoming the Texans bar, but is there anywhere else that people watch the games from or that just want to meet up next Sunday at Hill Country for some Texans solidarity?

Need additional words to publish the post.

Looks like Brad Maynard won the punting battle.

I know it's the comical, but it's the only source I can find.

Tiniest of a glimmer of a ray of hope for free agency before the draft?

So evidently Maude is wearing a Battle Red Arian Foster jersey in the American Family commercial aired during the Super Bowl. All joking about Chicago aside, at least we didn't get Ralph Wiggum.

We may be spared watching our pass defense limping after one of the best TEs in the NFL next weekend.

I like Brian Cushing more and more every day. This just solidifies that. Also, Anderson really is a comedian.
