The Daily Gopher Hey Tipsy and Lloyd

What is the worst thing about Gopher football?

The Daily Gopher Sandwich

Simple, but I have really been enjoying this one. I roast a turkey breast and cut into bite sized chunks. Then I get a nice fresh baguette and coat both sides with a heavy amount of brie. Next, I throw into the oven, so the brie softens. Finally, add turkey and honey mustard.

I have considered adding some roasted asparagus too. However, I do not want to overwhelm the sandwich either.

I plan on eating a few during the Frozen Four.

The Daily Gopher Guacamole

I have not posted in awhile, but I have perfected my guacamole recipe. Here's what I got going:

4 avacados

1/2 or so vidalia onion, diced

juice of 1 lemon

2-4 cloves of garlic, pressed

cilantro

Roughly 2 heaping tbsp of sour cream (this adds moisture)

2 jalapenos, slice the stem off and throw in a food processor, then add to the mixture (pepper, juice, seeds, etc.)

Optional:

Weed.  This is great, as the munchies come on, you eat more guac, then more munchies, and so on and so on.

Smash it all together until it is nice and smooth.

The Daily Gopher Big Ten Rankings and Bowl Projections

After another week things are starting to shake out.  Here is where I have teams ranked from best to worst:

1. PSU -- no comment needed

2. OSU -- due to the loss to PSU

3. MSU -- outside of their OSU loss they have looked well

4(t). NU -- they beat MN but lost to IU.  The IU loss does not automatically put them ahaed of MN

4(t). MN -- they have beat the lower half, but are not nearly good enough for the top 3.

6. Illinois -- look for them to go 2-1 in their final 3.  Just did not play up to expectations or talent level this year.

7. Wisconsin -- better than their record.

8. Iowa -- not good, but decent

9. Purdue -- hey, they beat Michigan -- finally something for Tiller

10(t) IU/Michigan -- too bad they don't play each other, as we may never know who is in at the bottom.

Bowl games:

I have to think that Alabama and Texas will go to the title game.  Therefore:

Rose Bowl -- PSU

Capital One -- OSU

Outback -- MSU

Alamo -- MN (too bad, as Champs would be better as the opponent is the ACC not the Big 12)

Champs -- Illinois

Insight -- NU

Motor City -- Iowa

We screwed ourselves today out of a Jan 1 game, by losing a winnable game.  Even if we win out, the Outback bowl gam would chose a MSU team with one less win over us.

The Daily Gopher What the Fu............................

I can't believe that we lost that way.  The relaity is (and I have said this all along), we a re a good, but not great football team.  Brewster has been a gambler all year and today he made two bad bets and lost big.

1.  The faked FG was very obvious from about a mile away.  If it is four down territory, then run 4 plays that do not include a faked fg.

2.  Not taking a knee to go to OT.  We were at home and our D was thriving, plus NU sucks in the red zone.  The INT took place at midfield  If it had taken place at their 20, fine, but not a play away from a FG or the run back.

I love gambling.  However, there are times when you are up big (7-1 on the season) and you hedge your bet or play conservative.  This was one of those times.  An OT loss would have been much betterthan what we saw today.

Before the criticism starts, I do get that we would not be 7-2 without Brew.  I also get that we beat NIU because we gambled and it worked. I alos know that today was an example why Brewster will be our coach for a few years, even if we go 10-2 this year.  Here's why, the big schools don't take gambles on guys who have two good seasons and then lose games the way we did today.

Two days of bitterness, then I look forward to heading back to MPLS and beating Michigan.

The Daily Gopher 2 Tix for NW

They are Sec 202 row 7, seats 23-24.  The face values is $90 for the pair and I am asking $45 total.  I live in Boston, so if they need to be overnighted to you, please add on $10.

I can be reached at my new super cool email address: kellyleeks@yahoo.com

Don't give this address to Tipsy, as he does not need to have access to it.

#20 and rising, Go Gophers!

The Daily Gopher 7-1, me, NU and other stuff

Wow.  I never would have guessed this could have happened.  A great birthday present (I enjoyed it with my filet mignon, king crab legs, stuffed mushrooms, and a lot of Magic Hat -- the new wintyer brew is out and quite delicious, plus Roxy Rolles is back for the winter -- oh so hoppy).

Now, back to the Gophs; 7-1.  Really F---ing nice.    It was not a pretty win, but it was a win.  Mason would have lost this game.  Roof has done an excellent job wit this D and I can't wait to see what he brings next year when we get another round of top notch JUCOs in ready to go and some high quality HS kids.  Maresh and the other 2 of Skyline kids may be on the field.  Glad that we are paying him a sh!tload of money.

Brandon Green.  He looked really good today and will be a star in this league before he is done.  Spry will not see much of the field again.

Bacher (I think that is the qb) and the running back are hurt and may be out for NU. Not sure what to think of the NU-IU game, as starters were hurt on both sides.  I think we win next week.

Nice to see MSU win.  Michigan will not be going to a bowl game this year.  I always enjoy seeing a big power get their sh!t handed to them.  Michigan fans at the BGSU game were total d!cks.  Shocked at the Wisconsin-Illinois score.

The Daily Gopher Purdue is next

Anyone watching this game?

Purdue looks like they have given up.  Painter has been pulled.  The backup looks lost out there.  I know that they are banged up a bit, but they just do not look like Purdue teams of the past.

I love the fact that we have the bye week to rest up, get the true freshmen additional reps in practice (maybe Green or Smith can finally break out next week).

Traveling to Purdue will still be a challenge, but we should win next week.  We will need to D to start strong and take away the small amount of confidence that Purdue may have left.

I am happy that we have Northwestern at home, as that game will be more of a challenge than people think.

The Daily Gopher Wisconsin -- Iowa

I know that we are not allowed to wish death on anyone per Board Rules.  Therefore, I wish that there is a food poisoning epidemic that causes every indivdual at the IA-WI game to spend the rest of their lives puking.

If we could wish death on someone my wish may or may have involved an airplane, earthquake, or massive fire.

Thirteen additional words were needed to get this post up to the required 13 words.

The Daily Gopher Credit goes to Tipsy, Lloyd and Leeks

A month or so ago, I predicted that this Board would grow exponentially once Tipsy, Lloyd and Leeks began posting.  We are missed at the GH and just ask Matt, how much free advertising was provided by Kyle Kesell.  One board's loss, another's gain.

Well, look at how many new posters are popping up on a daily basis.  Take my shared stadium thread for example.

I would like "superuser" rights, so I can start banning others.  Admin, please email me the appropriate username and password.

The Daily Gopher Bruininks and sharing the stadium

Sid’s column has quotes from Bruininks that involve sharing the stadium with the Queens.  Of course it would need to be expanded to 80,000 (or at least beyond 60,00).  The point of a 50,000 seate stadium was to fill it up with gopher fans and keep the opposing border states out.  The seats could grow with the fanbase (by that I mean Gopher fanbase).  I thought this was “our” stadium and by “our” I mean fans and alumns of the University of Minnesota.  We got screwed with the Dome and don’t think that the Queens will not try to take advantage of every angle.  Do you really think that the premium locker room for the Gophers will not be used by the Vikings?  When would we paint the place purple?

I am in the process of making a large pledge to the U’s new stadium.  Admittedly, there is the selfish reason of better seats.  However, there is also the non-selfish aspect of giving back to my school.  This is the same reason that I spent lunch breaks calling state senators’ and reps’ offices asking them to approve funding for the stadium.  I do not see the point in giving money to a stadium, so a pro sports team has a place to play.

While it is early in this process, I am pretty concerned.  With a bad economy and two stadiums to fund already, I just do not see the State or taxpayers coming up with a stadium for the Vikings, when they can just play at the U.

The Daily Gopher Brewster

I have to wonder what Maturi does if we finish 10-2.  I believe that Brewster will have completed year 2 of 5 with a contract that does not pay a lot of cash.

Does Maturi restructure the contract and add another year with more cash?  How about a bonus for completion of the contract?

Does Brewster answer his phone (he will get calls with a 10-2 record)?  He can't be as bad as Mason was with this.

Brewster often refers to the what him and Mack Brown did at NC.  However, as soon as they had a decent year, they were gone.

Admittingly, I am way ahead of myself when the guy is 7-12 here, but Mason was never the same after his looking around.  I also do not buy that this is Brewster's dream job. I am glad we have him and will hopefully enjoy the ride to Pasadena.

Thoughts?

The Daily Gopher IU, let's move on

We will win next week.

Tipsy, Lloyd, we need to start planning the tailgate.  I will be monitoring weather reports on an hourly basis, as it may dictate the menu, dress, etc.

Kickoff is 1100, so I think we will need to plan for breakfast and a post game meal.  Beverage planning is in order, as morning drinks should be different from evening afternoon drinks.

My flight is landing around 945 pm on Friday, so I will immediately head to the store to load up on food for Saturday.

Maybe this week we can send Gay Bobby to the GH tailgate, as I know there was allegedly an issue with S. Well and a homeless male in the port-a-potty last year (for the record he serviced the hooker and then returned the money).

Lloyd, I have fallen down on the Allagash.  Will try to send this week.

The Daily Gopher Reusse writes article on the Traitor

It sure is funny how the Gopher hockey program is made up of nothing more than the best players across the country, who are handpicked and underperforms, while the poor (insert opposing school) is just tryting to get by.  However, when we look at the underdog of Gopher Football, they are nothing but awful and MN kids should step up and go to better schools.  Guess what, OSU fb = Gopher Hockey.

Should I mention that OSU fails to win th big one?  Hey Reusse, how about you write about that?

The Daily Gopher Game times -- question for admins

You have times listed for all games.  Where did you get these from?  I am most interested in the IU game as our tailgting plans depend on the start time.  I am curious, as no one else has them listed.

A 6:00 start may mean a change in menu.  If someone can drag Tipsy's sorry arse out of bed before 9:00 we may be able to have a decent tailgate.  I may even consider a home meade au gratin potatoe dish.  I only use gruyere cheese, as I don't eat that Wisconsin sh!t.

The Daily Gopher Pittman?

Is he playing?  Anyone know where this situaton is at?  I am guessing if he does not play by the IU game that we may as well redshirt him unless is that much of a difference maker.

I am hoping we have some young WRs with breakout games this week.

Looking forward to my new feature, the weekly Big Ten breakdown.  This will be a premium feature, so membership will be required.  Rates will be $25/month and I am throwing in an asparagus appetizer recipe that will be well worth the $25!

The Daily Gopher Saturdays in the Fall

Living on the East Coast, amongst those who value science, I made a decision to not fly back to MN for the Montana St game, after seeing the last two in person.  However, I enjoyed game day here in the city and had a chance to see about 4-5 other contests.

The highlight of the day was not the Gopher victory as the team was flat.  I am giving them a pass and hoping we see a lot more next week, as 4-0  would be huge and set us up for a potential 5-1 start.

The highlight of the day was my feast.  I started off with some Italian dressed olives, assorted cheeses and a few Bombay gin and tonics.  Next, I moved on to the main course of grilled corn on the cob (the key is soaking the corn in H2O (water for you non-science believin' Jesus types), smashed fingerling pesto potatoes, grilled asparagus (marinated in balsamic vinegar with kosher salt), a crab stuffed poblano pepper and dry aged ribeye, topped with a grilled portabello.  This was washed down with Lloyd's Allagash (sorry).  I would like to focus on the steak.  I grew up with the NY strip, moved to the filet and recently have been stuck on the ribeye.  Dry aged is the key.  As a civilzed person I eat my steak rare/medium-rare, rubbed down with sea salt.  The crab dip was killer.   I added some water chestnuts, as it gave it a nice crunch.  The poblano pepper works well as their is a small bite and a bit of sweetness.

Next week I am xconsidering roasting a chicken (free range, organic).  However, ribs and brussel sprouts will be considered.  I will be back in MPLS for the IU game and tailgating with Tipsy, Lloyd and friends, where I intend to unveil my bacon and bleu burgers, with wings and a potatoe medley.

The Daily Gopher Lobstergate 2008

Tipsy_leeks_medium

via i197.photobucket.com

A beautiful day in the tailgate lots with pounds of fresh lobster lobster direct from the East Coast.  Many cases of Magic Hat and other fine brews to wash down the butter dipped lobster.  Lloyd Christmas enjoyed the day.  Of course this was just an appetizer for an opening day win, which was followed up by victory beers in the parking lot.  Then it was off to BGSU for more fun and another victory.

College football is back and the Gophers are looking good.

The Daily Gopher Hello

This is my first post on this board.  I am long time Gopher fan and find myself to be intelligent, humorous and good looking. I also enjoy putting down the beers before games  with a few buddies in the tailgate lots.

I have a half brother, Kyle Kesell, who was one of the original recruiting gurus before it was stolen from him.  He may also post from time to time with some good inside info to recruiting.

Go Gophers!
