Tonight, the college basketball season kicks off for real, with a bizarre Roy Williams/ Isiah Thomas matchup that neither team seems to want to play. I know our boys still have a couple of days until they get going for real, but now seems as good a time as any to get back into "basketball mode" and start discussing what we think will happen this year in college hoops.

Let's make this thread open to anything you would like to talk about for the college basketball scene- either about the Jayhawks in particular, or more of the national picture. Only rule: leave talking about football at the door. Yes, we all still support the football team, and are hoping for a bowl, and are worried about our coaching staff, yadda yadda yadda. There's plenty of other places on RCT to discuss that stuff over and over again.

Possible Topics of discussion:

1. What team out there scares you the most?

2. Who is the best freshman in the country this year?

3. What mid-major do you like to make a run? What one is overrated?

4. Who is one team that nobody is talking about right now that will become a major storyline as the season progresses? Who is being talked about way too much right now, and is destined to fail?

5. Who is your second favorite college basketball team? Why?

6. With Hansborough no longer around, who becomes the most hated player in the game?

We all know that it hasn't been the greatest of times for KU this fall. But as the great poet Bono once wrote, "everything changes on New Year's Day." Also, when he said, "I will be with you again," I like to believe he was talking about the Final Four.

On its surface, this isn't that big of a deal- player that can't play this semester anyways it out until around December 1.

However, doesn't it seem like KU has had an awful lot of stress fractures the last couple of years? Obviously these guys push themselves to the limit day in and day out to become elite players, but is it possible that the training staff is letting the team down with poor stretching or treatment procedures?

Even scarier- are Adidas shoes causing this? Obviously the contract they gave us was great, since it supported the entire athletic department instead of just the men's basketball team. But if the gear isn't up to snuff, isn't that a big time problem?

Why have we had so many stress fractures?

So, after yesterday, what do we make of the Big 12 North picture? The three teams we all assumed should rule the division all lost in various manners. As of today, the mighty Wildcats of Little Manhattan have a commanding lead based on conference record. Can this hold up?

I don't really have a lot to say about this as of now. I'm more interested in getting a discussion going amongst the community- and supporters of other schools are more than welcome to add their two cents. Who do you think now has the inside shot at taking the North? What have you learned about the six teams? What would your "power rankings" of the North look like right now? How confident are you in your school's chances of winning this thing?

None of us were actually there for the incident, so it's hard for any of us to definitively say this is or isn't the right call. Let's just hope this blows over quickly and get the focus back on the field, IMO.

Looks like the former Duke PG is scheduled to visit Lincoln this week. Does anybody else think this guy would be just as much of a panicky b*tch at QB as he was as a PG? When I think of great quarterbacks, I think of Joe Cool... not Coach K's dorky failure.
