Red Reporter Reds quiz on managers and coaches

Since the world championship year of 1990, we all know the Reds have fallen on some hard times.  Including that magical season up to the present 20 years later, we have seen the team go through 10 different managerial changes which has also caused for some new faces in the dugout on the coaching staff side of things.

This quiz is to test your knowledge about how well you remember the managers and coaches.  Some of their names will be very easy to remember while others may take a while.  Not including the managers, there have actually been (to my best estimate) 32 other regular coaches, 2 interim coaches, and 3 bullpen catchers.  Hint...remember that 5 of the coaches went on to later become the manager of the Reds.  You've got 20 minutes to see how good you can do.  Good luck and GO REDS!!!

Red Reporter Red Quiz about the 1990's

Although the players listed in this quiz may have appeared in either the 1980's or the 2000's for the Reds, they each only played one season for the team during the 1990's.  Many of them will come to mind very quickly as others may surprise you.  Each are listed alphabetically by last names and their initials have been included to help you along the way.  Good luck and, as always, GO REDS!!!

Red Reporter Cincinnati Reds of the 1980's

Let's see how well you remember the Reds of the 1980's.  Sandwiched in between the Big Red Machine glory years of the 70's and the World Series Championship club in 1990, most of these players are often forgotten.  This quiz includes all players who appeared in at least one game for the Reds during the decade however a few also appeared in the neighboring decade as well (i.e. some listed in 1980 also appeared in the 70s while others listed in 1989 may have also played for the Reds in 1990, etc.).  Due to players changing uniform numbers, some players may appear twice when they are typed in.  Last names are acceptable and you'll have 20 minutes so good luck!

Red Reporter Reds Free Agent Trivia

Hello again, Reds fans!  Today's trivia centers around the Reds free agents of the 2000s in a test of knowledge to see how much you can remember about the Reds players of the last decade.  85 times during the past 10 years, the Reds "dipped into the free agent pool" and signed someone who would go one and make at least one appearance for the big league team throughout last season.  How many can you name is this 20:00 quiz?

The year each player was signed, his former club, and position are listed as clues on the left column.  Last names are acceptable.  Several players were signed as minor league free agents and two other players were even signed twice on different occasions (hint).  This quiz does not include the players that were originally with the team (such as draft picks, amateur free agents, etc.) and later resigned as free agents and it also does not include players who were out of major league baseball when they signed their 21st century Reds contract.

The quiz is pretty fun as there's surely some guys you won't remember.  Good luck and GO REDS!!!!!!

Red Reporter Can you name the Reds fielders since 2000???

Hey Reds fans, here's some fun trivia to keep you going while we endure the cold weather and await the long winter season and on up until Opening Day 2010 to see what goes down for our beloved Reds.  Click on the following link Reds of the 2000's and test your knowledge about the Reds to see how many former and current position players (not including pitchers) you can name in twenty minutes or less.  Without cheating, how many can you actually remember who played with the team during the last decade?

Try the quiz out to see how much you do remember about them.  It's more difficult that you would think as 122 different position players appeared in at least one game for Cincinnati.  There will be hints listed for each one of them to help you along the way.  Please post your scores when you're finished so everyone can see how you did.

Good luck and here's hoping that the 2010 season will see a return to the playoffs...

Red Reporter Uniform # trivia

Just for fun, I ask that you don't look this up and just see if you can guess the answer.  Just to pass some time, I was going through some old scorecards the other day and I remember watching this game from 1988.  I didn't see the info. anywhere on the net and wanted to see if anyone else was as attentive to this as I was at the time.

Jeff Reed was traded from the Expos to the Reds and wore uniform # 34 throughout his Reds' career except for his debut.  Can anyone remember what number he wore during his first game as a Red???  I can recall the television announcer saying that he would soon be assigned the # 34 but he couldn't wear it during the game because I believe it had something to do with his name not being sewed on yet.  Just thought it was interesting!

Red Reporter Leading off for the Reds...

Centerfielder Willy Taveras!!!  Guys it's the handwriting on the wall.  Did you see the Cincinnati Enquirer's comment today that "the Reds called him as soon as he became a free agent" last week?

He's 2009's version of Corey Patterson all over again.  If he don't put up some spectacular numbers (and I don't expect he will so I won't be disappointed if he doesn't live up to my expectations) then I just don't know.

I know we haven't signed him yet but his name is all I'm hearing.  I believe another RR poster pointed out just the other day that Jocketty pretty much gave excuses as to why we possible won't be signing Wigginton or Miles but seemed like he was already giving the CF job to Taveras.  At least they didn't have to trade a prospect (or two) to get him back last month.

Whatever happened to the Adrian Beltre idea?  Unless Seattle asks for the moon, that seems like the best scenario to me.  We get a RH power bat with vastly improved 3B defense, can try to move EE to left field, and put Dickerson/Hopper in CF, with Bruce in RF.  What do you all think???
