Los Angeles Kings @ New Jersey Devils- Gamethread 19
The Time: 8:00 PM EDT
The Broadcast: TV - NBC, CBC, RDS; Radio - 1130 AM WBBR
The Series: The New Jersey Devils (0) vs the Los Angeles Kings (0)
The Previews: John has a preview of game one here, but seeing as this is the first game of the series, I'd suggest reading his comprehensive series preview. For the opposition's perspective, Robert P over at Jewels from the Crown put together a Four part series preview. Part one can be found here, Part two can be found here, Part three can be found here and Part four can be found here.
The Pre-Game Video: Here's the awesome pre-game video the Devils have been using before playoff games at the Rock. Watch it and get pumped for this one.
The Song for Tonight: I'm in the mood for something epic (and unfortunately for a lot of you, very long). The intro riff to this song never fails to get me pumped up. The lyrics are pretty fitting for the occasion as well. Also, epic guitar solo at the end. Tonight's song is White Walls by Between the Buried and Me
Gameday Info: Per TG, the Devils will be using the same lineup as they did in game 6 of the Rangers series. As for the Kings, they aren't making any changes to their lineup going into game one per Rich Hammond of LA Kings Insider.
The Reminder: I know everyone's going to be a bit on edge for this series - myself included. Feelings and emotions will be running high. Still, remember that I and the other users commenting aren't the ones playing this game. There's no need to get salty among ourselves or against any trolls from other places. Seriously, don't feed any trolls and don't troll Jewels From the Crown- sanctions there can be brought over here. To quote Bill S. Preston, Esq., be excellent to each other.
Please use the comments in this post to discuss tonight's game before, during, and after it happens until the recap is up. Please remember the rules at all times. Namely: keep your comments clean, keep them on topic, and keep them legal (For example: nothing is allowed about illegal streams - no links, no discussion, no requests). I will provide the commentary here while John will occasionally chime in with a tweet from @InLouWeTrust. Go Devils!

An Analysis of Bryce Salvador's Points in the Post Season
Last week I looked at the disappointing performance of Patrik Elias, who despite a goal on Wednesday, hasn't made much of an impact on the score sheets this post-season. This week, I plan on looking at one of the biggest surprises in the post-season, Bryce Salvador. With 11 points in 18 games this post season, he's matched his season's total in points (9) and he's scored more goals in the post season than he has all season. With that being said, this is somewhat of a surprise, seeing as he's been known more for being a physical presence. To take a closer look After the jump there'll be more analysis on his offensive production this post season.

A Closer Look at Patrik Elias' Playoff Performance
In 81 regular season games in 2011-2012, Patrik Elias put up 78 points, good enough for a tie with Erik Karlsson for 10th in the league for scoring. While the Devils have received contributions from everyone in the lineup, Elias hasn't exactly been the biggest factor offensively in the playoffs, with 5 points in 16 games, and none in his last six games. In fact, he's more or less been as much of a factor offensively as one of the 4th liners (Gionta, Bernier and Carter all have 4 points each). While guys like Travis Zajac, Adam Henrique, Bryce Salvador (not a typo) and David Clarkson have all stepped up their offensive games in the playoffs, Elias' lack of production is somewhat concerning.

New Jersey Devils vs New York Rangers - Gamethread #16
The Time: 8:00 PM EDT
The Broadcast: TV - NBC SN, CBC, RDS; Radio - 1130 AM WBBR
The Series: The New Jersey Devils (1) vs. the New York Rangers (2)
The Previews: Matt E has his preview of tonight's game here, while Joe Fortunato has a preview of his own over at Blueshirt Banter
The Song For Tonight: Seeing as Zach Parise had nothing to say after game 3's loss, I'm going to continue the trend. Tonight's song is an instrumental (yay!) with a pretty unique sound. Tonight's song is Crow Town by Horse the Band
Gameday Info: As we all know, Jacob Josefson will make his return from his wrist injury tonight in place of the underperforming Petr Sykora. As for the Rangers, with Brandon Prust suspended, Stu Bickel will dress as a forward for the Rangers as Brandon Dubinsky is still unavailable for tonight per Andrew Gross. Outside of those two changes, the lineups are all the same.
The Reminder: I know everyone's going to be a bit on edge for this series - myself included. Feelings and emotions will be running high. Still, remember that I and the other users commenting aren't the ones playing this game. There's no need to get salty among ourselves or against any trolls from other places. Seriously, don't feed any trolls and don't troll Blueshirt Banter - sanctions there can be brought over here. To quote Bill S. Preston, Esq., be excellent to each other.
The Band is Awesome: Queen is an awesome band. Here's an example of said awesomeness. That also reminds me. Please don't call Henrik Lundqvist "Queen," or some variation thereof. At its core it is a sexist comment by way of stating that being a female is inferior. Moreover, the band is more awesome than Lundqvist ever will be. Such statements won't be tolerated from here on out, so don't be surprised if you get warned for it. Thanks!
Please use the comments in this post to discuss tonight's game before, during, and after it happens until the recap is up. Please remember the rules at all times. Eastern Conference Finals Game 3 Preview: New Jersey Devils vs New York Rangers
The Time: 1:00 PM EDT
The Broadcast: TV - NBC; CBC; Radio - 1130 AM WBBR
The Series: The New Jersey Devils (1) vs the New York Rangers (1)
The Last Game: While Lundqvist was unstoppable in game 1, the Devils were able to beat him with a pair of re-directions in game two, with David Clarkson's re-direction being the game winner. John's recap of the game can be found here.
The Goal: It's possible to beat Lundqvist in two ways- going high glove side or redirecting pucks on net. Both of those require players to get shots on goal- which is exactly what the Devils are going to have to do this afternoon. After game 1's shotblock-stravaganza, the Devils were able to get shots on goal- in fact, four Devils were in double digits in terms of Fenwick (two more with +9 Fenwick). This is an encouraging sign- the Rangers can't block every shot they make. Hopefully, when the Devils get into the Lana. Lana... LANAAAAAAAAAAAAAA *chuckles* Ranger Zone, they can get pucks on net and create traffic.

The Playoff Series They Just Played: And here's a list of all of the recaps of the playoffs games these two played in the first round. As you know, the Devils pulled off the "upset" against the Flyers, while the Rangers did it the hard way and took the Caps to game 7. Here's a list of recaps on both series.
Devils Series: Game 1 - Game 2- Game 3- Game 4- Game 5 (lol Bryzgalov)
Rangers Series: Game 1- Game 2- Game 3- Game 4- Game 5- Game 6- Game 7
The Last Time These Two Met in the Playoffs: The last time these two teams met in the playoffs was 2008, with the Rangers winning that series 4-1. In 4 years, a lot has changed between those two teams. The Rangers don't have Chris Drury, Jaromir Jagr and Scott Gomez (lol Gomez) anymore. The Devils don't have Paul Martin, John Madden or Jamie Langenbrunner anymore. Now we're going to be talking about Ilya Kovalchuk, Adam Henrique, Mark Fayne, Brad Richards, Ryan McDonaugh and Chris Kreider (well, it's mandatory if you're NBCSN).
The News Sources: With a new series, you're going to want to know the following people to get the latest news for each team.
The main sites for Devils news are Fire & Ice, which is where Bergen Record beat reporter Tom Gulitti reports his news; and NJ.com/Devils, which features beat reporter Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger. You can follow them on Twitter, too: @tgfireandice for Gulitti and @ledger_njdevils for Chere.
As for the Rangers, the Bergen Record has their own beat writer blog for them- Andrew Gross' Rangers Rants. Another solid source for Rangers news is Pat Leonard and the Blueshirts Blog, which is part of the New York Daily News. You can follow Gross on twitter- @AGrossRecord and Leonard- @NYDNRangers.
The Predictions & A More Proper Preview: Expect to see our predictions either later today or tomorrow morning. A more proper series preview will also come soon as well. This is just a primer of all the basic information to follow this series with a little history. Unfortunately, SBN does not have an in-depth preview on the series as of now. John will compile our predictions tomorrow and have a proper preview of the series in whole soon enough.
In the meantime, please use the comments as an open discussion about this series. How do you like the matchup? Do you think the Devils aggressive forecheck will give the Rangers fits like the Devils did to the Flyers? Do you think they can beat Henrik Lundqvist? This series will be tense. All I hope is that the Devils are going to be playing some hockey in June.

How the Devils Stopped Claude Giroux at Even Strength
Going into this series, a lot of people (my self included) didn't give the Devils much of a chance. One of the reasons was that the Flyers' star player was playing on another level and the Devils star player was hurt. Claude Giroux put up 14 points in 6 games against one of the Cup favourites, the Pittsburgh Penguins, albeit against the storm drain known as Marc-Andre Fleury. While that wasn't the only factor, that was one that was talked about quite a bit. However, four games into the series, Ilya Kovalchuk, despite missing game 2, has more points (5) in this series than Giroux (3).
I've also stressed this point out quite a bit- all of Claude Giroux's points have come on special teams, and not at even strength. With the majority of the game being played at even strength, this has been huge for the Devils- as they're able to silence the Flyers best weapon for a good majority of the game. Of course, he won't be playing tonight due to his suspension for his headshot on Dainius Zubrus. However, the Devils do deserve some credit for stopping Giroux. I'm interested in which Devils have been the most effective at stopping Giroux.

The Time: 7:30 PM EDT

The Song For Tonight: This song might be a bit slower pace than the stuff I've usually chosen, but when it picks up it's pretty solid. Tonight's song is "Sleeping Giant" by Mastodon
Gameday Info: Ryan Carter is out with a lower body injury for tonight. Which means instead of Peter Harrold slotting in as the 12th forward, Peter DeBoer decided to go with... Tim Sestito. Hopefully he can help the Devils out ENERGY!!!1 the Flyers. Peter Harrold sits out his second straight game as Adam Larsson will be in tonight (Sidenote- why can't Harrold play as the 12th forward?). As for the Flyers, Sean Couturier is a game time decision per CSN's Tim Panaccio. If he's not playing, expect Zac Rinaldo to take his place.Andrej Meszaros will not play tonight, so the Flyers D should be the same.
The Reminder: I know everyone's going to be a bit on edge for this one - myself included. Feelings and emotions will be running high. My guess is that if he's playing, he will receive limited minutes, namely playing on the power play and no penalty kill shifts. Regardless of whether or not Kovy plays tonight, Adam Larsson will play as the 6th defenseman. If Kovalchuk's out, Peter Harrold returns to the 4th line. As for the Flyers, it looks like they're not going to make any lineup changes. The goalies are Martin Brodeur and Ilya Bryzgalov.
The Reminder: I know everyone's going to be a bit on edge for this one - myself included. Feelings and emotions will be running high. Still, remember that I and the other users commenting aren't the ones playing this game. There's no need to get salty among ourselves or against any trolls from other places (pro-tip: don't respond to them). To quote Bill S. Preston, Esq., be excellent to each other.
Please use the comments in this post to discuss tonight's game before, during, and after it happens until the recap is up. Please remember the rules at all times. Namely: keep your comments clean, keep them on topic (SPECIAL PLAYOFF RULE: Anything 2012 NHL playoff related is OK.), and keep them legal (For example: nothing is allowed about illegal streams - no links, no discussion, no requests). I will provide commentary here as well as tweets here and there from John at @InLouWeTrust. Go Devils!
