What’s goin’ on, Rams Nation!?!

The hot topic going on ESPN the last couple days has been about the Dez Bryant / Roy Williams thing - where Dez didn’t carry Roy’s pads after practice.  So I just wanted to chime-in and give my opinion, as well as find out what yours is.

Turf Show Times IT IS POSSIBLE to Teach Life Lessons Through Football - @Kevin_Payne

Kevin-payne-football-camp_medium

What's up, guys?  Y'all getting a little football fever?  I know I am.

Sorry it's been a minute since I've checked in -- I've been beyond busy putting together my football camp.  Thankfully, all the hard work that was put into this thing was well worth it, because we had an incredible turnout.  And I truly believe those kids walked away from the event with a little extra knowledge about not just football, but life in general.

Hey guys, this is Kevin Payne of the St. Louis Rams, and I just wanna give a huge shout out to my boy, James Anderson.  He was the shooting guard for Oklahoma State, and now he’s a San Antonio Spur, thanks to them drafting him in the first round, last week.

Turf Show Times Kevin Payne's Thoughts On OJ Atogwe Signing with the Rams - @Kevin_Payne

What's goin on Rams Nation!?!  This is Kevin Payne here, checking in on the Atogwe news.

I know my two cents on this might be kinda late, but I've been out of town and haven't had much of a chance to pay close attention to the media. But now that I've seen how the Rams just re-signed OJ Atogwe to a 5-year deal, I figured I'd give throw a short comment at-cha about it.

Turf Show Times I'm FINALLY Starting to Feel My Swag On the Golf Course - @Kevin_Payne

Dorf-on-golf_medium

I think I just found my new favorite sport (other than football, of course).

Golf.

Yep -- Tiger, Tiger Woods, y'all.

No, I didn't get out there and play any rounds; I just went to the driving range -- and I was terrible.  I've always been terrible, and, as evidenced by how I played the other day, I'm still terrible.  But, for some reason, while I was choppin' away, that didn't seem to matter to me.  I still managed to have a lot of fun.

I know what you're probably asking yourself... How can you say golf is your new favorite sport when you're so terrible at it? ...Well, because I finally hit the ball off the tee for the first time.

Turf Show Times Flying a Plane Is the Best Experience, Ever - @Kevin_Payne

Kevin-payne-airplane_medium

(THAT'S how I look when I'm scared (Haha!) You see those eyes buggin'? ;-)

As a child growing up, there were two things I always dreamed of doing:

1. Becoming a pro football player

2. Flying an airplane

I'm a Ram, so I must've accomplished number one.  But number two -- I never got around to doing that ...until recently.

Turf Show Times Kevin... How Do You Approach the Free & Strong Safety Positions? - @Kevin_Payne

Neworleanssaintsvchicagobearso5_2ev0m0k9m_medium

Aight... Let's get back to this Barbara Walters style interview we've got going on here ;-)

From Ryan - aka VanRam - (playing the part of Barbara)...

How do you approach the free and strong safety position?

I think it all depends on what defense you're in.  You could be playing strong safety, but - in a certain defense - be in the middle of the field.  Or, you could be playing free safety, but - in a certain defense - you could be coming down in the box as if you're a strong safety. ...Know what I mean?

I'm aware that Chris Harris has been putting together a lot of posts about this whole bowling thing, between him and I.  He claims no one can beat him, but we all now know that's not true, because I knocked out the "Hitman" just the other week not once, not twice, not three times, but FOUR TIMES.

I'm just sitting here thinking about how crazy this trade between myself and my friend, Chris Harris, was.  You may not be aware of this, but him and I have had an interesting history together when it comes to team transactions.  Seriously, I could one day write a book about this insane and totally ironic ride we've been on together throughout our NFL careers; and it wouldn't surprise me if it actually sold a few copies - Ha!

Okay, so try and follow me here, aight.  This story is a wild one.

Turf Show Times Let Me Tell You A Little Bit about Who I Am - @Kevin_Payne

I gotta admit... It sure was cool reading the comments posted after the video I left you yesterday.  They really made me feel good.  It's stuff like that which makes me start to feel more at home here in St. Louis.

Your comments also continued to prove to me how cool it is that I get to hang out with the fans on the net.  I love communicating with you guys; I did this sort of thing a lot when I was with the Bears, and I fully plan on continuing to do so now that I'm with the Rams

Since I'm the new kid around here, I figure the right thing to do would be to tell you a little bit about myself.  And after you finish reading this, I hope you guys will head over to my Facebook page and intro yourself to me to let me know why you're such a big Rams fan.

Windy City Gridiron Kevin Payne's NFL Draft Day: 'My Dream Comes True' (Pt. 3) - @Kevin_Payne

Kevin-payne-high-school-newspaper_medium

Missed the first two parts of my mini-series?  Here they are...

Part One: "Where'd Y'all Come From!?!"

Part Two: "Get Off The Phone!"

Finally, after just about losing my mind over all these mysterious phone issues that were preventing certain calls from coming through, the phone rang.  And, for once, it wasn't Albert (my agent).  It was the Chicago Bears.

On the other end of the line was a very nice woman from the Bears' organization.  She told me...

"The Chicago Bears are about to draft you."

(Wow, right?  Haha.)

Windy City Gridiron Kevin Payne's NFL Draft Day: 'Get Off The Phone!' (Pt. 2) - @Kevin_Payne

Phone_2009-05-09_100306wkev_medium

In case you missed part one, catch up here...

Kevin Payne's Draft Day: 'Where'd Y'all Come From!?!' (Pt. 1)

A lot of people ask me how I was able to sleep knowing that I wasn't picked-up by anyone on the first day of the draft. When I tell them I slept real well, they always act so shocked.  Not having a home after day one really wasn't THAT big of a deal.  ...Wait.  That's a crazy thing to say.  Of course it was a big deal.  I was beyond anxious to get drafted.  So -- yeah -- I guess it doesn't make much sense that I was able to sleep so well (Ha!).

So, after a good night's sleep, I woke up and set up shop in front of the TV for another day of watching the draft.  Day one featured the first three rounds, and the second day included rounds 4, 5, 6, and 7.

Round four came and went, and my name wasn't called (Me = Not happy).  And, it was at about that time my family and friends starting showing up again in full-effect, for a draft party that was never supposed to happen in the first place!

Windy City Gridiron Kevin Payne's NFL Draft Day: 'Where'd Y'all Come From!?!' (Pt. 1) - @Kevin_Payne

Crowd_medium

I don't think there's an NFL athlete on the planet who doesn't vividly remember the day they were drafted.  I know mine will never be forgotten - that's for sure.  It was crazy -- even though it wasn't supposed to be.

I told my parents I didn't want to have a party, because I didn't want anyone hanging around while I was watching the broadcast of the draft.  Of course, I was cool with my parents and siblings being there;  you know, we could throw some meat on the grill, do some barbeque'n, and just privately enjoy what we all hoped would be a very momentous occasion for my family.  So after I asked Mom to keep it simple, she said "okay" and I then felt at ease knowing that the draft would be a chill affair.

As it turned out, the draft wasn't chill at all.  When day one came around, so did my cousins, my friends, and just about everyone else who knew me.  We had a packed house and not even an ounce of peace.

I was like... "What are all these people doing here!?  I told everyone I didn't want to have a party!"

No matter what I wanted, more and more people kept showing up.
