A quick look at Guards and Wings taken in the top 5 over the past 5 years
Thought it would be interesting to take a look at the guards and wings drafted in the top 5 over the past 5 years. The stats are from this season, so we have rookies through 5th year guys. I sorted the players by points scored. The first table has no player names. The same table with the player names is added below the jump.

Tough break for Minny and Rubio.
NBA.com announcement of ROY
Includes voting totals. Tyreke: 491, Curry: 391, Jennings: 204.
Playoff Game Thread 4/23
Three games today:
Boston at Miami 4:00 pm PT ESPN - Celts lead 2-0
Dallas at San Antonio 6:30 pm PT ESPN - Tied 1-1
Denver at Utah 7:30 pm PT ESPN2 - Tied 1-1
ESPN Awards Watch
Tyreke at #1 for ROY and Beno at #1 for Most Improved Player. No PW love though for coach of the year.
Omri and Donté
Let me preference this by saying, I like both players and think both should be getting PT. Also, this isn't a post directed at any one or two people, but a response to what I see as a prevailing trend.
That said, I'm baffled by some people's responses to these two players. One player can do no wrong and is a future star and the other is questioned as to his place in the league. I find it very strange, considering:
- They are basically the same age(Donté is 4 months older: 2-21-88 to 6-22-88).
- They have similar experience. Donté has one year of NBA and one year of NCAA experience and Omri has been playing professionally overseas since he was 17(Joined Maccabi Tel Aviv during the 05-06 season).
- Both play defense
- They have similar stats: (Comparison after the jump).

Jermaine O'Neal to miss Kings game to be with grieving family
"Miami Heat center Jermaine O’Neal said he will miss the game Sunday in Sacramento and might be away from the team for up to a week in order to be in South Carolina with his family after they decided to take his ailing uncle off of life support."

5. SACRAMENTO KINGS
Positive Spin: The Kings saved about $13 million in salaries next season. Nocioni is a warrior and should add some much-needed toughness to a team known for its softness. And Sacramento is the front-runner to win the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft lottery.
ESPN Honors JT...Sort of.
MONDAY'S WORST
Jason Thompson, Kings: We honor the impressive rookie big man with expectations -- dropping zero points in a 91-90 loss to the Blazers is beneath the Rider alum who entered the game averaging 12.1 ppg.
The New Playoff Odds are Here!
The first edition of Hollinger's playoff odds, based on his power rankings, are in and our Sacramento Kings come in with a 2.9% chance to reach the playoffs! 5th worst percentage in the league, ouch. On the bright side we have a 10.5% chance of winning the lottery! And by my estimation a 75% chance of The Kings selecting Pervis Ellison Jr. if we do win.

Kings' Williams shoots for more minutes - SacBee
"He's important to us, from my perspective, because he has a different game than anyone else on our team," Theus said. "He is sort of a low-post bruiser – a space eater is what we call him – and we don't have anyone else on the team like that. I think (he's) very valuable in that sense."
Jason Williams Retiring
He hasn't played for SacTown for a long time, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for him. Good luck Jason.
Martin is the 6th Best SG in the League - HOOPSWORLD
After averaging 23.7 points per game a season ago, Kevin Martin has established himself as one of the best shooting guards in the NBA. It is no accident Martin has emerged as a superstar for the Kings due to his sharp shooting ability and elusiveness on the court last season. With Ron Artest shipped off to the Houston Rockets in a trade, this Kings team is now all Martin's to lead. That huge responsibility should bring about great results from the fifth-year pro.

14. Donte Greene, Kings
Greene is another huge talent who still has to learn how to play. To see him use his rookie season as a launching pad for shooting lots of 3-pointers would be a huge disappointment. He has the ability to score in other ways, so emphasizing those moves each day and even curbing his green light from downtown would be a good start. He's also a guy who could see his athleticism jump to an elite level if he trained for it.
17. Jason Thompson, Kings
The surprise lottery pick could become a victim of his own talent. He's a power forward with small-forward potential, which is a deadly mix for a young guy but often results in a confused player who doesn't excel at anything. Thompson plays for a team that needs rebounding help and athleticism on the front line. Narrowing his focus in practice to simply being a beast in the paint would be the best plan for him to help his team.

Seriously that has got to stop.

HoopsWorld Grades the Kings offseason
A good review of the off season so far. Mentions Singletary and Ewing as possibly being part of the Artest deal.
"And perhaps best of all, it finally establishes Sacramento as Kevin Martin's team. For the past two years the Kings have appeared to have a hard time understanding that their most efficient scorer should be getting a bigger chunk of the shots; now that the option of forcing it to Artest or Mike Bibby are gone, Martin can get on with pumping in 25 a game and not worry about going entire quarters without seeing the ball."

I'm Worried About Minutes aka Trade Someone Please
(From the FanPosts. - TZ)
I was thinking about playing time for some of our younger players, and came to a frightening realization. We're now too deep. As our roster currently stands our 5 starters are Beno, Martin, Artest, Moore and Miller. The first 4 off the bench would be Garcia, Salmons, Hawes and Williams. The last 3 on the active roster(end of the bench guys) are Douby, Thompson and Singletary.
Based partly on last season's minutes, and knowing that Theus will be trying to win every game(rightfully so), I would predict a breakdown something like this:
Martin - 35, Artest - 35(closer to 40 last year), Miller - 33, Beno - 32 and Moore - 30 = 165 minutes
Garcia - 25, Salmons - 20, Hawes - 15, Williams - 10, and Douby -5 = 75 minutes
= 240.
That would assume Garcia backing up at the point and SG to get him his minutes and a few minutes for Artest at the 4(same as last year).
The problem here is we really need to be getting Douby 10+ minutes a game, because we need to find out this year what he can do, and I'd like to see Thompson get similar minutes to what Hawes got last year(10-15), without taking minutes from Williams(who is in a similar situation to Douby).
We're getting to the point where we need to start seeing what we've got with some of these guys. Our team isn't contending, so we don't have the luxury of letting a Gerald Wallace waste away on the bench and then blossom elsewhere. If there are players on this team we know for sure are not a part of the future, it is time to look at moving them now(Mikki, Brad, Ron).
The trade/trades kind of need to be for young talent, picks and expiring crap, similar to the Bibby deal(but hopefully with better picks). If we did the Odom or Marion trade, it would free up some minutes at the 1-3, but take even more time away from the young bigs. Odom or Marion getting 35 minutes at the 4 and Mikki taking 15-20 off the bench doesn't leave much playing time for Spencer, Sheldon and JT.
I'd hate to see Douby, Williams and Thompson sitting on the end of the bench, not getting a chance to develop as fast as they might, just so we can win an extra 5 games.
