Which head coaching job would you take?
I just wanted to stray away from the Redskins for a little bit (even though I still can't get enough)... just wanted to write this piece to see what people would decide and choose and why?
Giants signed G/T Shawn Andrews (Ex Eagle)
Signed this morning, but the deal is still unknown. I would've like to see this kid (27) join the skins given our O-Line struggles this past decade, and it just burns me even more that he went to the Giants. He's always had motivational issues and still had those problems playing alongside his older brother in Philly last year. A part of me wants him to be garbage, because he's on a division rival,
but part of me feels like the Giants got a steal if they can get his head on straight.
An Ideal 2010 Mock Draft -
This is the most ideal first round (but obviously things will change with trades and pick swapping)
Round 1PK(OVR)
1(1)St. Louis Rams – Sam Bradford…(They have a TON of glaring holes, but there is no way you’d start the season with AJ Feeley as your starter.)
2(2)Detroit Lions - Ndamukong Suh…Coach Schwartz gets his “disruptor” on the defensive line, and makes it a line that you must account for during games.
3(3)Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Gerald McCoy…The run defense was terrible to say the least, and McCoy fits the Tampa 2 scheme very well.
4(4)Washington Redskins - Trent Williams…I think both Okung and Williams are great, but it seems that Williams is better for the zone blocking scheme.
5(5)Kansas City Chiefs – Russell Okung…Instantly improving their O-Line, and allowing Branden Albert to move to RT or LG.
6(6)Seattle Seahawks - CJ Spiller…Yes the Offensive Line is horrible, but Spiller is a playmaker, your return guy, your 3rd down change of pace back. He and Justin Forsett make an interesting 1-2 punch in a weak division. Pete Carroll gets his “Reggie Bush-esque player here.”
7(7)Cleveland Browns - Eric Berry…The Browns defense lacked to make plays on the back-end last year, Berry will give them that instantly. His talent and skill is simply too much to pass up, and his skill set will help them immensely in one of the league’s toughest divisions.
8(8)Oakland Raiders - Bruce Campbell…All you have to look at is their draft history, they will pick Campbell due to his freak of nature combine performance.
9(9)Buffalo Bills - Jimmy Clausen…Trent Edwards has failed to deliver, and the new coaching staff in Buffalo will want “their guy.” At the very least, drafting Jimmy C. will generate some excitement, as opposed to an offensive lineman or defensive player for the 3-4.
10(10)Jacksonville Jaguars - Derrick Morgan…They tried to address their defensive line through free agency, which was mediocre at best. Morgan will be an upgrade and help with the ongoing quest to put Peyton Manning on his back.
11(11)Denver Broncos from Chicago – Maurkice Pouncey…They have obvious needs (WR, TE) but O-Line is a must. Casey Wiegmann is no longer with the team, and Pouncey is the best Center in the draft this year.
12(12)Miami Dolphins – Dan Williams…Very underrated and will fit great at NT in the Dolphins 3-4.
13(13)San Francisco 49ers – Joe Haden, Great player and a great pick for Coach Mike Singletary as he fills a huge need at Corner.
14(14)Seattle Seahawks from – Bryan Bulaga…Offensive Line help is huge and Bulaga falling to 14 is a great pick in terms of value.
15(15)NY Giants - Rolando McClain…Giants fans will have a new Stud MLB, now that Antonio Pierce is no longer with the team. McClain is the best interior LB in the draft and one of the biggest need positions for the G-Men.
16(16)Tennessee Titans - Jason Pierre-Paul…The Titans defense did get pushed around last year, and JPP will help pressure opposing QB’s.
17(17)San Francisco 49ers from Carolina – Anthony Davis… The 49’ers will see this as Alex Smith’s make or break year, and give him a solid RT to prove himself.
18(18)Pittsburgh Steelers - Golden Tate…They could go defense here, but there is a gaping hole with Santonio Holmes being traded to the Jets. They need another play-maker, and Hines Ward isn’t getting any younger.
19(19)Atlanta Falcons – Sean Weatherspoon…The best OLB in the draft will fit nicely in the ATL. He’s got speed, size, and will help try to take the defense to the next level.
20(20)Houston Texans - Earl Thomas…They could use a running back, but Thomas is just too good to pass up.
21(21)Cincinnati Bengals – Taylor Mays…The Bengals arguably have the slowest safety in the league in Roy Williams, Coach Marvin Lewis loves his USC players (Carson Palmer, Rey Maulaga, Keith Rivers…and don’t forget Frostee Rucker). Mays will give them a dynamic player from the Safety spot.
22(22)New England Patriots – Dez Bryant…I know they just signed Torry Holt, but you can’t ask for a better situation for Bryant.
23(23)Green Bay Packers - Charles Brown…If Aaron Rodgers wasn’t getting killed on every other play, the Packers would’ve been serious contenders.
24(24)Philadelphia Eagles – Kyle Wilson…They could trade up and take a safety (as could Dallas) but getting Wilson is great. After Asante Samuel there are some questions, as well as Wilson’s value in the return game.
25(25)Baltimore Ravens – Jared Odrick…He can play any position along the Ravens front line. He will give the aging line a boost and will draw some double teams away from Haloti Ngata.
26(26)Arizona Cardinals – Jermaine Gresham…Without Boldin and Warner, the offense needs a playmaking TE on its roster.
27(27)Dallas Cowboys – Brian Price...Apparently the ‘boys are shopping guys like Marcus Spears. Jay Ratliff is great, but Price would be a great addition to the front seven.
28(28)San Diego Chargers – Ryan Matthews…Chargers fans rejoice as they find the replacement for LT. Darren Sproles will continue his return/3rd down back role.
29(29)NY Jets – Sergio Kindle…Yes they signed Jason Taylor, but Vernon Gholston hasn’t panned out, and Kindle will help with the pass rush.
30(30)Minnesota Vikings – Jahvid Best…They do have some holes on defense, but with Chester Taylor gone, AP does need a compliment back.
31(31)Indianapolis Colts – Mike Iupati…Ryan Lilja is gone, and if it wasn’t for Manning being amazing, and having a quick release, the O-Line would look at lot worse than what it is.
32(32)New Orleans Saints – Jerry Hughes…A speed pass rusher who is a great fit for Gregg Williams’ aggressive defensive style.
Potential Trades: Philadelphia and Dallas trading up to get a safety. Cleveland, Washington, Denver all trading back to acquire more picks, as well as the New England Patriots to trade into the first round.
Key Players not in the first round who could be selected: Tim Tebow, Rodger Saffold, Kareem Jackson, Devin McCourty, Colt McCoy.
Redskins Stimulus Trade Package 1: 2010
So imagine a package deal: the Redskins now only have 4 picks in the 2010 Draft, and are in need of some more picks.
THE PACKAGE:
Jason Campbell: I still feel he played very well given the circumstances and I hope he goes somewhere and succeeds. He is a high character, class act QB in the NFL (commands a 3rd or early 4th round pick).
Chris Horton: Yes, this is a surprise name on this list. He can play FS/SS, but we have a crowded SS backfield, and Kareem Moore is only serviceable as a backup FS. “The Predator” would make a fine addition to another teams’ secondary. I don’t think trading LaRon would be wise, but we need to draft a “real” Free Safety to play alongside him. (A bonus addition to Fat Al and JC in the trade). It also makes me sick to my stomach to think the Eagles are trying to make a push to draft Eric Berry.
Albert Haynesworth: Is he our version of the Eagles’ McNabb? Have we already written this guy off? I think we are at the point of no return and all you can do is trade him. You obviously can scratch teams that run the 3-4 Defense off of the list. Scratch the Giants (I don’t see them trading in the division like the silly Eagles), the Pats, Saints, and Colts (although Freeney, Mathis, Haynesworth would be downright nasty). (Commands a 1st round pick)
(Andre Carter also in the mix)
------------------------------------
After I boiled down the list, chopping off the teams that run the 3-4, teams that wouldn’t really use JC, and teams that downright make some sense, I’ve got 7.
St. Louis: If they would send their 2nd round pick, 3rd round pick, and the “injured” Adam Carriker, they’ll be able to select Bradford at #1 without throwing him to the wolves. Haynesworth would be able to make Chris Long a better player, and most likely bring Leonard Little back to playing again. Horton would be able to give the Rams a solid safety even if OJ Atogwe doesn’t re-sign. Campbell is much better than AJ Feeley, Kyle Boller, or Keith Null.
Tampa Bay: If they would send their 2nd round pick, 3rd round pick, and 4th round pick, Raheem Morris might be able to keep his job one more year. They gain a solid backup for 2nd year Josh Freeman, get a solid safety in Horton, and be able to gain a huge boost to the player we all thought would sign with them last year, Albert Haynesworth. Then the Bucs will have options with their 1st round pick- Berry/Suh/McCoy all possible options.
Detroit: Send their 2nd round pick, 3rd round pick, 5th round pick. Coach Jim Schwartz will reunite with Albert and would probably take Russell Okung at #2 overall. Matthew Stafford will take some shots and was a bit injury prone so JC will help. Horton will play alongside Louis Delmas, which would help the Lions secondary.
Tennessee: They would have to pay the Skins some of the $21 mil that we gave Albert recently, but this seems the most likely destination for him if they are all traded individually. On top of sending Washington both their 3rd and 4th round picks. Kerry Collins is fading badly as a backup on top of being 37, and Horton will help the weak secondary (surprisingly) from last year.
Jacksonville: Their team is going to be leaving to a different state if they don’t make some serious moves, and they will need more than Tim Tebow to be their savior. Sending Washington their 1st (10th overall), 4th and 6th round picks would help immensely. Jason Campbell could give David Garrard a run for his money, Albert would instantly help the defense, as well as Horton (Sean Considine and Reggie Nelson are average at best). With the 4th and 10th pick in the draft, the Skins could take Berry and Trent Williams/Brian Bulaga.
Oakland: You’d think this would be automatic given Oakland’s silly draft habits. They could send the Skins their 1st (8th overall), 4th and 7th round picks. Like above with Jacksonville, the Skins could fill 2 starting holes (LT and FS) with Berry and Williams. Oakland would have a real QB, JC, who’d study, work hard, and never let his weight get to 290 lbs like JaMarcus Russell. Haynesworth and Richard Seymour would make a formidable front, Michael Huff has been a disappointment, and, oh wait, they still have Nnamdi Asamougha.
Houston: After all, we did steal their Offensive Coordinator and a backup QB; let’s get some of their picks while we’re at it too. If they send their 1st (20th Overall) and 3rd round pick, the deal would help both teams. Houston would win the division hands down. Peyton would be on his back with Amobe Okoye, Haynesworth, and Mario Williams breathing down his neck. Not to mention DeMeco Ryans and Brian Cushing flying around there as well. Horton would be a strong presence with Bernard Pollard, and Jason Campbell would be solid for a team with Matt Schaub, who has had some injury history.
This is all speculation and thoughts – and maybe none of this will even happen. Some under-the-radar names I think the Skins should look at if they do acquire picks outside of the 1st round:
Reshad Jones (FS)
Jacoby Ford (WR/RB/Returner)
Ciron Black (OT)
Jason Fox (OT)
Vladamir Ducasse (G)
Chris Hall (C)
