Marty Biron out indefinitely with fractured collarbone suffered today in practice. Cam Talbot coming up.
14 minutes agoThat's a shame, but apparently Glen says he only expects the backup to play 2 or so more games this season.
@agrossrecord
Hey guys in honor of the Banter's current slogan and this team's willingness to fight for every inch of ice I made this as a tribute.
Let me know what you think. Thanks
(Also someone of you will no doubt recognize the blood as Chris Drury's from Game 5 of the 08 Semi Finals, please save any Drury hate this image is not about him I merely used this picture because It was the only one I could find that I felt was representative of this black and blue Rangers team and it is supposed to be a symbol of the team which is why the players has no face.)
Breaking News: Dubinsky, Stress Fracture
"Rangers leading scorer Brandon Dubinsky has a stress fracture in the fibula in his left leg. He'll be out three to four weeks." @kausatoday
According to Kevin Allen of USA Today Dubinsky has a stress fracture in his left leg. This probably could not have happened at a worse time. I do not know whether this means someone like Grachev gets called up (he recently had his first 2 goal game of the season so get excited..). This means Dubinsky won't be back until a couple of weeks after Callahan, which I guess answers the what happens to MZA when Cally comes back question.
The only silver lining I see here is perhaps Torts will use Avery more and I feel like especially this year he's shown that he deserves to get more minutes simply based upon effort. I would expect he takes Dubi's spot on the 3rd line with Prust and Boyle. I would actually prefer that Feds go back to the third line and Avery get a chance to play with Anisimov and Gaborik again as I felt they showed chemistry and were broken up too quick, but what do I know.

Yankees, going to a 7th year for Lee.
Stop the fight! #Yankees have indeed gone to seven years on Lee, as first reported by @SI_JonHeyman. #Rangers #Angels #MLB
Larry Brooks: The NHLPA is given an ultimatum.
Larry Brooks is reporting that the NHL has given the NHLP an ultimatum. Basically the NHL has told the NHLPA that they will allow the Kovalchuk deal of 15 years at 100million total to be grandfathered in, however they must accept the following conditions:
1. That the cap hit on future multi-year contracts will not count any seasons that end with the player over 40 years of age. The cap hit would be calculated on the average of the salary up through age 40 only.
2. That the cap hit on future contracts longer than five years will be calculated under a formula granting additional weight to the five years with the highest salary.
If the NHLPA does not accept these stipulations the NHL will immediately devoid both Kovalchuk and Luongo's contracts and begin investigating other potential cap circumventing contracts such as that of Marian Hossa's.
The NHL owns sweeping punitive powers against teams and players judged guilty of circumvention under Article 26 of the CBA.
This could get ugly and fast.
Down Goes Brown's Fake Google Ads
Hey I don't know if you guys have seen Down Goes Brown's blog post about the fake google ads for the NHL. They are very funny and he has continued to add to them since creating the initial one for the Leafs. Anyway I noticed there weren't any Rangers ones so I decided to make my own, you can do this pretty easily it tells you how to make them at the end of each video. I left my video in the comment section of the blog post and DGB was nice enough to post it with all the other videos. Anyway check it out and let me know what you think of it, it only took like 5 minutes to make so I thought it'd be cool if anyone else submitted their own or posted them here. You can find it on DGB's page and it's the only one currently for the Rangers.
Rate My Fantasy Team
Hey I just finished a 12 team standard draft with basic 5x5 categories. I was wondering if a few of you would give me your opinions on how I made out.
My 2010 Fantasy Rankings For Pitchers
Hey, I thought I'd post this and get some feedback. I'm in a pretty competitive Fantasy Baseball League and I decided to rank my top 100 for pitchers. Let me know if you think I left anyone off or if you disagree, I'm open to suggestions/tweaking.
Trade For Jokinen Very Much Alive
Darren Dreger is saying that it's inching towards conclusion, and could be completed after the Flames game tonight against Philadelphia.
Trade Brewing
Zipay tweets that Tortorella ran very late to the pregame meeting with the press:
"Something brewing. Torts explains 35-minute delay as not related to meeting with team. Trade in works? "
Chris Drury is skating with the 4th line
As Per Andrew Gross
wow.
Glen Sather + Loss tonight = Held Accountable?
Craig Carton of WFAN reporting; that if the Islanders beat the Rangers again tonight, that Glen will finally be fired.
Puck Daddy devotes a blog post to us.
And how much we suck.
Yankees Talking to Nick Johnson
Yankees have expressed interest in former Yankee Nick Johnson to DH for a year. I don't really like the idea seeing as Nick can't stay healthy and has hit 20 homers once. Maybe if he were a secondary option at DH, and came off the bench.
Puck Daddy's 5 Best & Worst Draft Picks of the Decade
The Rangers are #1 on both accounts.
NHL News: Flyers Fire John Stevens
Tim Panaccio Reports the Flyers have fired head coach John Stevens.
I really didn't think they had it in them. John Stevens was way to passive for a team of undisciplined prima-donnas, now I'm terrified they might start playing to there potential. Does anyone know where Mike Keenan is? I think he'd whip them into shape. Not that this will effect the Rangers as they continue to spiral into the cellar. Funny thing is I thought Torts would've been great for the Flyers last year before we hired him, I could see them playing his system they have enough two way guys who have a lot of scoring potential, unlike the Rangers and their no way tweeners.
King Henrik's (hopefully weekly) Power Rankings (Part 1)
Due to the fact that I find most power rankings by any publication in any sport to be pedestrian and lazy (with the exception of cbssportsline's MLB rankings) I thought it was about time I did my own. I'll try and do these once a week if people actually read them. Now without further ado KingHenrik's 2009/2019 Week 1 POWER RANKINGS.
(note: I started these before the first games were played, and they had no bearing on the first order of teams)
Avery Skating
Andrew Gross is reporting that Avery is on the ice today (Zipay reported this too of course). Avery wore an orange "no contact" jersey so we will wait to see whether his knee is okay tomorrow after the skate.
My Predictions for The Rangers
I just thought I would throw together my thoughts on this upcoming season. If you had not already seen I started making some predictions on Jim's Nostradamus post; here are those predictions, the rest are after the jump:
Rangers finish 5th, and play the 4th place Penguins in the first round. The East will be seeded like this 1. Capitals 2. Bruins 3. Flyers 4. Penguins 5. Rangers 6. Canes 7. Leafs* 8. Devils.
The Rangers PK will fall to 11th, but their PP will rise to 10th.
Wade Redden will have a comeback season, everyone will still hate him.
Glen Sather will trade Brian Boyle and a 4th round pick back to the Kings in exchange for his own third rounder back.
Michal Roszival will become public enemy #1.
*After seeing the younger Koistisyn was sent down I've concluded that Montreal has no idea what they're doing and are going to have a less than stellar season.
Grachev to Hartford
Per Andrew Gross
The Rangers cut the roster to 22, sending Grachev to Hartford.
Hey just thought I'd post the highlights from the game against the Caps. CHECK OUT GABBY'S RELEASE.
Heatley Dealt to San Jose per TSN
http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=290808
It Seems that Dany Heatley has gotten his wish.
The Ottawa Senators dealt the veteran forward to the San Jose Sharks for Milan Michalek, Jonathan Cheechoo and a second round pick.
Thoughts on Anisimov
I think that there is no point in having Anisimov on the roster now if you're not gonna put him on one of the top 3 lines. Korpedo should go back down to the 4th because Anisimov has more offensive upside and would probably be as useless as Voros playing with Sjostrom and Orr. I'd really like to see, even if we lose this game, Zherdev and Anisimov playing together for the first and likely last time. My line combinations would be:
Gomez - Avery - Callahan
Drury - Naslund - Antropov
Anisimov - Zherdev -Dubinsky
Korps - Orr - Sjostrom
Game 3 Reaction and thoughts on Game 4
I thought the Rangers were simply out played. Offensively they weren't able to generate anything and Varlamov made all the saves an NHL goalie should (I'm sure that made Jose feel like a winner). Sean Avery played his worst game of the season by far and took 4 bad penalties. Scott Gomez and Chris Drury were mostly invisible, with the exception of Gomez turning the puck over a couple times. Antropov I thought had a good game and Markus Naslund has been very un-Markus Naslund like during the playoffs actually stepping up his game. Henrik was great again and the game very well couldve been 6 or 7 nothing if it weren't for Hank.
